Ranked 1v1 on Xbox in Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition is AWESOME! 

Some general tips. If you create unit groups for infantry/cavalry/siege you can easily control a lot more than 60 and also cavalry will move at cavalry speed and so on. Just makes it easier with micro manage tactics when you’re actually fighting. Hold LB and you can select/create different unit groups around the wheel. Also if you garrison units in your battering rams you’ll do more damage, when the ram is destroyed you also get a quick boost to your infantry numbers which can be helpful during a push.

Absolutely wall with buildings! I heard you mention wanting to house wall, which is a very common thing to do in this game, along with most other buildings. It’s not uncommon to make wall of houses, your blacksmith, military buildings, blacksmith, and market, filling in gaps with pallisade. Most buildings are tougher than palisade, and incorporating them not only saves wood, but more importantly villager work time!

Love this!!! Little tip I found out if you haven't yet. When more than 1 building the same that produces troops/villagers, you can double tap A on one, it will highlight the buildings and you can stack more. So for example, 4 barracks highlighted can stack 60 troops providing you have the resources. And it will spit out 4 at a time as well 😊

60 units is maximum on pc too. it used to be 40 i think on the older versions. shouldn't be a problem though since unit compositions are usually 2 main units + siege. so control group 1 could be like 40 longbows, control group 2 could be 40 halberdiers, and optionally control group 3 could be siege units.

For those wondering since i see it mentioned all the time. Yes, you can have custom priority & unit control groups if you change control UI from standard to advanced.

Idk if u know but for ur scout, hit RB, and set a way point path by hitting LT A on the map

You need to rebuild lumber camps for better wood efficiently - if the lumber camp is too far then villagers spend longer walking than chopping

Take your boars in dark age and it'll speed thing up alot. Lure them to your TC, don't lose a vill. Get loom first until you are confident luring.

Im 5 and 5 in ranked 1v1 on xbox. I haven't played a strat game in 20 years, but its been hella fun learning a new ranked meta besides FPS's lol

I played on the steam version but this games 2v2 and 4v4 is so much fucking fun. Nothing is funnier then rushing China in 5 minutes as English and seeing his teammates send over villegers to help lmfao

Game time is correlated to game speed, which is probably 1.7.

Don't forget Ballistics in the university in castle agw and to upgrade crossbows to arbalest in imperial.

The timer for ranked goes at roughly 1.7x the speed of real time. The reason for that basically is that it always was like that since 1999 and everyone got used to it^^

You need to build more lumbar camps.. closer to your woodline as the villagers eat away at it. So many inefficiencies. You put a weak wooden wall where you already had a wall of houses. You need to get two TCs pumping out villagers to the max. Not easy on the controller I'm sure. Did well. The worst thing is how late you upgraded villagers efficiency. Also.. the trading between team mates is a constant supply of gold. Do that next time.

Try make your mines have a one tile gap between the stone/gold :) much more efficient

Also I think the timer is faster because it's auto fast mode on pvp. But I could be wrong lol

This is technically a 2v2 game

Click Right Stick and auto assign villagers to food and wood at the beginning, they will go looking themselves for munitions. Just make sure to build a mill and wood depot.

The only thing I seen I need to ask about...you was in age 4 yet no wheelbarrow upgrade...how come?? It's best upgrade in game and needs to be done 1st. I seen you did it later. Great video overall maybe see you in PvP sometime.

Just got introduced to Age Of Empires and I gotta say that it's much better than Halo Wars 2 tbh

Good game, really need to stop selecting all your units and attacking 1 enemy manually every time. X will send them into attack mode and they will auto attack everything I'm the way. When you select them and move them like you were they stop attacking but are still getting attacked. Taking a lot of unnecessary damage.

Just press Y and let your scout do his job straight away into the match but keep an eye on him if there's no treaty and gor other livestock he comes across, once he is done he'll just stop
