I’m only 3 ranks in but, it’s kind of crazy to rank them by today’s standards and not put them in the context of their time. However, that’s actually how most rankings go, so if it this is how you want to do it (which I’m taking as, if you could own only one Nintendo console from now till forever and can only play games specifically made for that console) it’s actually an interesting way to rank them
I don’t think it’s crazy at all, it’s the most practical way to rank them (meaning: which console should you buy and play right now) The other way as you mentioned is “greatest console of all time”, which includes overall impact on the gaming world for their respective generations. I think on that list the switch is still first, followed by the Wii and then the N64
No because that's like saying ocarina of time or final fantasy 7 is the best agme ever by they are pretty average by today's standards don't get me wrong I love ocarina but I would never call it my favourite game or even Zelda game sorry but Majora's goes above it Edit: XD how did I go from consoles to saying what my second fav Zelda game is
@@cris3760 I don't agree with your definition. I think if something's aged well it's timeless, and make no mistake Castle HAS aged well mechanically. It controls stiffly, but the game is very deliberately designed around those stiff controls. It's not clunky at all. It's consistent and responsive.
Oh wow, this list actually surprised me! Only number one wasn’t a shocker. Glad you’re still making videos, Nintendo is going to have a banger year and we need your content!
@@dariandaughtrey8578 Wait, how is that surprising!!! Infinite Bits already put it pretty low on the list, and now it has to be lower?! Christ, there's a lot of WiiUphobic people out there.😢
Here's my ranking cause yours sucked. 7:NES. It is a decent console but has aged pretty bad. 6:SNES. A big improvement to the NES with stuff like a link to the past , but it just doesn't compare to the other ones on this list. 5:N64. A great edition to 3D. 4:Switch. Great idea, but it lacks backwards compatibility. 3:Gamecube. Had a kick-butt intro and had some very good backwards compatibility. 2:Wii. It's a classic with great games and the vitual console was amazing.1:Wii U. Everything was perfect. The games, the vibes, the controller, the backwards compatibility, it's vasiclly Nintendo console's at their best.
The Switch is a great console & all but I was surprised he put it at 1st place seeing how the console had issues like joy-cons drifting & it’s horrible online experience. I almost thought the GameCube was going to take 1st place instead 😳😳
So many great memories with all of these consoles, THIS IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GREAT! Also Great List I agree with all of this!! And GREAT VIDEO as always, Keep it up!!!!
Tbh, the Wii will always be the greatest console of all time. There were tons of games for everyone, young and old. It was a universal console. The user interface is the best there was and should’ve continued in later generations (Wii U tried but kinda failed at it). I have had Wii, Wii U and Switch, and the Switch is just boring. Most games are not of my interest and when they are, they’re not worth it (Mario Strikers Battle League, Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury (Already had it on Wii U and the new content wasn’t as epic as we wanted (Daisy)), Smash Ultimate too focused on the fighting and not on other things as in Brawl, and well… Yeah…). The Wii had so many channels like the one of the questions or the one were you could share your Mii creations… There were these add-on channels like the one on Mario Kart Wii that each week you had daily challenges with new maps, kinda like mission mode on Mario Kart DS… You received news and notifications in the form of letters, which made it more appealing and engaging… And many other things…! The thing is, that all of these things could’ve been kept and improved upon and have the other innovations like Miiverse on Wii U but what they did was scrapping a lot of things and adding others that weren’t necessarily replacements. Again, the Switch is soooo boring… Not many features in the console. The Joy-Cons suck. Why do their buttons have to be clicky instead of squishy like any other consola like in the last, idk 15-20 years?! Why does Miitopia have to have an infinitely better Mii Creator than the actual console?! I swear the Switch has no flavor. The 3DS did good, only bad thing was not having flipnote. Now that I'm thinking about it, if you take the best User Interface things of the Wii, Wii U and 3DS and put it into the Switch, it'd be the best one yet… Anyway, just rambling and gotta post this since I took the time to write it.
Your videos are so incredibly entertaining- there’s never a wasted frame or line of dialogue, everything is so well thought out and fun. Keep up the awesome work IB, and congrats on 10k subs!!
Hey, you put the Wii U on number 4😢?! That's just dumb. The Wii U is Nintendo's greatest achievement ever (aside from poor sales). I have fond memories playing Twighlight Princess HD, and it's just amazing😊.
Agreed with most of this list, I would swap N64 and Wii U. N64 has flaws but outshines in the game category and memorability to it than the Wii U will ever do. All the games you mentioned plus DK64, being a starter for so many new games makes it better imo.
@@ianeons9278 No it’s not, more people talk the about the N64 and it’s games (Mario 64) the Wii U was such a disappointment of a console and nowadays people don’t talk about the Wii U
@@RetiredMario209 Nah I hear more people talk about the Wii U and it’s games than the N64. I mean just look at all the Wii U ports on Switch and how many people mod their Wii Us since the eShop closed.
Man, I've been waiting for this vids about 2 or 3 weeks and I really love it. I even urge my girlfriend to watch your vids and she loves them. Keep going man, you'll get millions of subs very soon. Congratulation on hitting 10K subs, man. I'll set the timer now and waiting for yor next video.
I started taking editing more seriously this year and man. I verily respect your grind. You are pushing out these well thought out videos with editing that fools everyone into thinking you already have a mil. keep up the good work.
I mean, the N64 is great, but the modern ones can play N64 games with some sort of backwards compatibility, so it kinda was a solid choice on the teir.
Even with Nintendo Switch right now, I still believe that Wii was the greatest console of all time. It was so good that even non-gamers took the controller and played bowling, tennis, Mario Kart. Wii offered a totally new experience, very unique, with great titles that were played in the most original way.
I'm so glad u put the Wii U high!!! So many people judge it because of its name and how poorly it did. A true hidden gem. Love ur channel btw here is my personal list 1. Wii 2. GameCube 3. Switch 4. Wii U 5. SNES 6. N64 7. NES
How can you say that he put so high when it's literally below the first Wii. You also have it dead in the middle, you bullie. Also, how is the Wii at No. 1, but the Wii U is at No. 4?! That's pretty stupid.
Great video, as always. I mostly agree with you in all rankings, exept the Switch. I think it is a great conslos, but it has a single, huge flaw: Joy Con drift. Having drift makes playing a game on switch basicly impossible, plus the way Nintendo handles the situation is terrible.
In what criteria is the SNES the second worst console other than it doesn’t have modern graphics. It has the best library of games out of any system. In the future no one would buy a mini WII or WII U and most controls just suck. I’d put those 2 last then the Original then N64
I respect the NES for bottom pick, but personally I believe the SNES holds up MUCH better than the N64 by today standards, as it pretty much perfected 2D play. Overall still good list though
Funny how the Gamecube often was referred to as trash compared to its rival consoles and now has found a popularity/nostalgia it has never seen before. I've always liked mine tho, first console I've ever owned.
Console sales should be considered as well after all a successful console sells well and a bad console sells poorly. I love the GameCube but it was a failure. Being #2 is way too high but I get it’s mostly nostalgic. The Wii U was amazing but was also a failure. I think the SNES and Wii should be much higher and I agree with the Switch being #1. But I understand this is your list and your personal opinions.
If it weren't for backwards compatibility the WiiU would easily be below the snes and n64, also I know its personal preference but the n64 like the nes felt very experimental and most games are unplayable while the snes further perfected 2d games, I would definitely put the snes above the N64, no questions asked
My list is similar except with 1 change. I’d swap the positions of the N64 with the Wii U lol. & Idk, I think the Wii U had some pretty solid titles but the game pad is what ruined it for me. I never owned the console for that purpose. However, I appreciate that GameCube is second on your list as well because for a period of time people were shitting on this console & it was ALWAYS my favorite, most notably harboring the legendary Super Mario Sunshine ☀️- which off topic, but that’s another thing people also liked to shit on almost combining it with their hatred for the GameCube.. In my opinion though (& I enjoy both) Sunshine is WAY better than 64 😆
Great video! I always love seeing you upload. it's always an instant click when a vid of yours is in my recommended. Also, great list (Except for how low the SNES is😢), anyway here is my list: (This is what I think is overall better, not biased. If it was, Wii would easily be top. This is also based on the games on the console. Not hardware, innovation, or anything like that.) 7. Wii U- The only good original game I think of on this console is, Super Mario Maker. BOTW is on here but if you play BOTW you play the switch version. 6. NES- Pretty much covered it in your video. The games have aged poorly, but at least there are some good games, unlike the Wii U. 5. N64- Great console, just lacking in the amount of games. 4. SNES- Like you said, has some of the greatest 2D games ever! DKC, Mario World, Link to the Past, and much more. 3. Wii- This kills me. But, I have two admit that the GameCube and Switch library's are unbeatable, but that doesn't mean the Wii doesn't have good games, cause OHHH BOY.....it does. 2. GameCube- This console's library is.... kind of perfect. Scott the Woz put it best when he said that nearly every Nintendo series has a game here. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, DK, Fire Emblem, Mario kart, Pokémon, Star Fox, and even F-Zero. This console also introduced us to many new beloved IPs like Pikmin, and Animal Crossing. So yea, kind of amazing. 1. Switch- Could it have been anything else. You put it best when saying that the Switch has some of the best games of their respective series.
If we're counting the Wii U ports for Switch I agree 100%. If not it doesn't have a ton that's totally exclusive and QC issues would keep it out of the top spot for me, though it's third party support is comparable to the GameCube. I might put the SNES above the Wii just for the sheer amount of quality games but that's the correct top 4, definitely.
I would’ve ranked 1. Wii (Biased because I grew up on it but still a great console) 2.NES 3.Switch (great console but no character 😢) 4.N64 (my personal fav) 5.SNES 6.Wii U 7.GameCube (overshadowed by Wii) For handhelds I’d say combining all xls and smaller versions 1. New 3ds (also grew up on this and I’m still biased) 2. DSi 3.2ds 4.O3ds 5. DS PHAT
For me: 1.N64 I had more fun with that one 2. Snes- great games 3. Nes- I grew up with that one 4. Wii u- is kind of like the switch only less powerful but the design is 100 times better 5. The switch- because I own one and it's ok. 6. The Wii- is was inovator 7. The GameCube- even tho it had great games it was limited thanks to the small disk 📀💿, and the design was horribly bad a cube??? Come on! Was Nintendo thinking 🤔
Great video man you keep pumping out incredible videos, but this video was interesting for me, as this is the first video where I completely disagree with you lol, if you don’t mind, I’m going to put my own personal list down here, and keep in mind this is a RU-vid comment so I can’t go as in depth with some of my arguments as I’d like. 7: N64, it pains me to say this but I consider the N64 to be Nintendo’s weakest console in history, it innovated plenty, but with every innovation Nintendo made they also had one other thing it took one step back in. For example why was the system using cartridges? Third party support was non-existent because of it, Square abandoned Nintendo for Sony because of their brain dead decision to use cartridges. The library was also weak as well, when Rare and Nintendo didn’t have something coming out there was nothing to play, third parties stuck with Sony the entire generation because of Nintendo’s awful decisions. And yeah, there were some great games released on this system by Rare and Nintendo, but a lot of those games aged horribly, there’s really only a handful of must plays, and out of those must plays only a couple aged well. 6: NES, the NES was THE system back in the day, it was pretty much the only system coming out at the time, all the third parties went to Nintendo for this reason, and Nintendo couldn’t stop pumping out genre-defining experiences. And despite how old the system is, I’d argue more games aged better than on the N64, Mario, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Kirby, Contra, Castlevania, Megaman, Excitebike, Ninja Gaiden, Duck Hunt, and so many other incredible franchises got their start on this system, and the games that started out their franchises are all still worth playing today. 5: Wii, despite how well this console did, in my opinion it was one of the worst home consoles Nintendo made. Stupid gimmicks bogged down what could have been incredible experiences, a huge lack of third party support was on this system because of the motion controls, and it was behind in so many areas when compared to it’s competitors, and to top it all off, there was not a lot of great games. Sure Nintendo put out some quality titles, but really think how many of those titles are really worth playing today. Wii Sports and Resort, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, DK Returns… and… I guess the two Kirby games? You’d think 3rd parties would pick up the slack, but as I said already that was not the case. 4: WiiU, Despite how poorly the console did, at least in my opinion the console is extremely underrated, I compare it to the Wii often not just because of the name, but because Nintendo made a lot of the same mistakes they made with the Wii on the WiiU. Some stupid gimmick alienated 3rd parties but this time even more so, it was behind it’s competitors in many areas, and the controller was a pain in the ass to use, but there’s one key difference between the Wii and WiiU that puts the WiiU over the Wii for me, Nintendo actually tried. Look at Nintendo’s first-party output on the WiiU compared to the Wii, it’s night and day, Pikmin 3, DK Tropical Freeze, Splatoon, Xenoblade X, 3D World, Bayonetta 2, Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, Smash 4, Mario Maker, Yoshi’s Wooly World, Hyrule Warriors and so many other great games flooded the system in an attempt to get people to buy the thing. 3: Switch, It’s really hard to rank the Switch as it’s not done yet and it very well could become Nintendo’s best system, but in my opinion it’s not, at least not yet. The hybrid console idea is really awesome, and allows so many great games to be playable in a way they’ve never been playable before, but in my opinion that’s one of the only things the console has going for it. Look at what Nintendo has done with this console, the controllers suck dick and are expensive as hell, the online is abysmal and for the first time ever has a price-point attached to it, and Nintendo has engaged in worse and worse practices with their games and with their community as time has gone on. The only reason the Switch is ranked so highly is because unlike the last two consoles I mentioned the system has great games and third party support. It’s just kinda a shame that third-parties have stagnated so much on the system in recent years and that the ports are usually lesser versions of the originals. But as for the first-party support… it’s good, but has problems, although some great games have been put out for the system a majority of Nintendo’s output are $60 WiiU ports, that should tell you how good the WiiU library was when the majority of the Switch’s best games are ports of WiiU games, hell it’s debatable wether the Switch’s most critically acclaimed game is even a Switch game at all, or a WiiU port. 2: SNES, your ranking of the SNES shocked me in your video Infinite, this system did almost everything right and has an insane library where almost every game holds up today, AND it had the most third party support out of any system out at the time. There wasn’t anything revolutionary about this system and that’s okay, because what this system did was take everything that made the NES, the NES, and polish and perfect it to a point that had never been seen before. And I haven’t stressed this enough but the games were so amazing on this system, in my opinion this system had the second best first-party support from Nintendo out of any system they ever released, second only to the GameCube. 1: GC, the GameCube was not revolutionary, and it didn’t need to be, it did exactly what the SNES did, it took everything great about the system that came before it and perfected it. And although the third-party support wasn’t as strong as it could have been, the ludicrous first-party support more then made up for it. The GameCube created Metroid Prime, Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin and it brought Animal Crossing to the west, not to mention the system has the best Paper Mario, the best Mario Kart, the best Mario Party, TWO mainline Zelda games, the best F-Zero, an amazing mainline Mario, the best Smash Bros, Eternal Darkness, Viewtful Joe, amazing Pokemon Spin-offs, it created Monkey Ball, and gave us a great Fire Emblem. And as the Cherry on top, it has the best controller ever made.
Wii u was the biggest disappointment for me. So I disagree with you on N64 and Wii u.N64 was great for its time (great game library).Yes it lacked third party support but it made up for it by having many amazing games of its own.I agree with your comparison of wii u to wii as they tried to force a gimmick nobody cared about just for the sake of being "inovative".And probably worst library of games out of all nintendo consoles.Thats why it deserves to be so low on the list. The best thing about it was backwards compatibility and virtual console. It technically didnt even have zelda for its entire life cycle.Yes breath of the wild was released on it but that was at the end of the consoles life cycle when switch was already being released and everyone would rather get switch version anyway. And yes best selling switch game is technically wii u port (mario kart 8) but mario kart has always being best selling game on every nintendo console (always in the top 3-4 on every nintendo console including handhelds) so thats no surprise. And wii u version had flaws that got fixed in switch version.Especially battle mode where they put normal tracks in battle mode (basically worst battle mode in series).
So this is my ranking 7: NES: There were really good games but didn't age well 6: SNES: Just like the NES, but just better 5: N64: There were really good games but lots of bad and didn't age well 4: Gamecube: I love this console it has one of the best library of games 3: Wii: A really fun console with amazing games and will always be a classic 2: Wii u: just an underrated gem with amazing games and also backwards compatible with the wii games 1: Nintendo switch: this is honestly obvious
For me my ranking is: NES (same points he Said in the vídeo) Wii-U (great console bit with not much good games) Snes (same as the video) Nintendo 64 (I love n64 but he's not better than the ones after It) Nintendo Wii (top 3 is really hard bc i love them ALL) GameCube (GameCube and Wii are almost same thing but GameCube is slightly better) Nintendo Switch (Bro That thing is literally semi perfect)
I’d actually put the Switch a lot lower down, no virtual console, terrible online, pretty weak first party support apart from a select few, selling Wii and Wii U ports at full price, it’s just not very good in my opinion, along with the giant wait in between first party games, the last big game we got was Luigi’s Mansion 3 in late 2019, which is admittedly a problem MOST Nintendo systems have which Nintendo really needs to sort out; if they’re so reliant on first party games, stop making us wait so long to play them, I know good games take time but I don’t think only using a select few of their franchises isn’t helping, if they actually bothered giving other franchises a chance, they could fill some gaps in the schedules
@@cris3760 Well not really, if I don't like a game or think it's bad, 'weak' is a perfectly fine word to use to describe the game/games I don't like, even if I didn't use the word 'weak' my opinion still stands
No, you’re not. I do think that too. Bad controllers (bc of the clickyness of the buttons), bad User Interface (doesn’t offer the minimum it should, it’s boring and doesn’t have what previous consoles offered in their UI), has a lot of MID games compared to their predecesors.
@@sandres5291 the Nintendo switch joysticks are fine wtf we don’t need Xbox or ps joysticks all the time even my backbone controller has the switch joysticks I just put skull & co on it
imagine putting the Wii U that low when it’s basically an nes, snes, n64, gb, gbc, gba, GameCube, Wii, ds & Wii U (basically 90% of the switch’s library) & mind you- you can play all games for free w better resolution. the wiiu also has endless abilities
@@cris3760 I guess opinons means opinions. My opinion about his opinion is that his opinion is absolutly terrible. I am sorry but ranking the NES, widley considered the best console of all time, at the "obvious last place" is a proof for extremly bad taste and most likley lack of game knowledge. This is the first rating of yours that I can't agree at all with you. How can the WiiU not be the last place when it was doomed from the beginning? How can the Wii with so many trash games just relying on motion controls be ahead of consoles that featured Ocarina, Link to the Past, F-Zero, Super Metroid, Goldeneye, DK Country and so on ... These game hold up extremely well still today and some of them are considered some of the best games of all time in their respective genre (Ocarina, GoldenEye, DK Country). Places 1 and 2 seem alright tho at least.
if i could put each console in a place this is how i would put it NES) - first adventures SNES) - greater graphics and game play N64) - revolutionary Game cube) - underrated Wii) - coolest adventures Wii U) - most over looked adventures Switch) - the renaissance
My ranking: 1. Switch 2. Gamecube 3. N64 4. Snes 5. Wii 6. Wii u 7. Nes I would maybe even put Nes over Wii u if I grew up with it like the others but Wii u was biggest dissappointment for me.It felt like nintendo is getting cocky due to Wiis success.I hope they wont repeat the same mistake after switchs success.
The way you ranked the consoles was very unfair. You shouldn’t rank them by them not being modern. Because back then, those consoles were high technology. The way Nathaniel bandy ranks is very fair, because he looks at every aspect, not just how old the games are, and that is what makes it “bad”. Either way, you didn’t even stay true to your ranking “method” . Just because of Game Cube‘s logo, you put it up higher on the list, but according to your method, those games are old and that makes them bad. What you need to do is put your self in the shoes of a 90s kid and then think about the old consoles and how high technology that was back then and how fun it was to play it. The Wii U should’ve been last, because barely anything new was updated from the wii, except that stupid game pad, but “HEY, the games are modern so that makes it a great console!” This video is garbage.
Great list. I gotta admit I liked most of nintendos consoles tho I think they do better in portables then consoles. My favorite is the Snes and switch. Switch has a bunch of retro games collections to. Most of the games on it are good to. Smash utilmate, Mario odyseey, zelda breath of the wild, Mario kart 8 delux, lugis mansion 3, Mario maker 2, splatoon 2, fire emblem three hours, astal chain, devil may cry 3 best version. Gamecube was great and underrated to you forgot to mention the Gameboy player for it which was a nice touch to the console.
7. Wii U: The Virtual Console re-imagined. GT was right. 6. NES: Gave us all an idea how to play games at home. It also introduced many ideas in gaming we never thought could have been possible. Even in 2D. 5. SNES: A better look at gaming with a much better understanding and gameplay. New soundtrack, new instruments and new series. Love this one, but it’s low due to how far we’ve come. 4. Switch: A great console, yes. However, I feel this one solved only one problem. It was a better console than the Wii U. In fact, that’s pretty much it reminds you of, whenever a new Wii U game is ported to it. However, the Virtual Console library is tight and the launch titles weren’t terrible. 3. N64: Amazing console! Great games, interesting controller and nice design! However, it’s the graphics of the console and the games that hold this back, even though this was the 90s. 2. Wii: My 2nd favorite Nintendo console! A lot of the games are best sellers! Games like Wii Sports, Mario Kart Wii, Super Mario Galaxy, etc. you get the picture. Also, the motion controls concept was handled so well, here! It felt like you were living life through a remote control! Especially with the Mii gimmick! Too bad that the Wii didn’t have as many games for it that many people thought it should. Games like an ACTUAL Mario Tennis entry, Castlevania: The Arcade, NHL 09! Also, the Mii gimmick later on got downplayed FAST! But it isn’t really the Wii’s fault, is it? 1. GameCube: I love this console. Don’t know what to say. Heartbroken when I found out that it was getting discontinued because I feel it had way more potential, than people realized. So many great games with great gameplay, amazing intro, like the creator of this video said, didn’t rely on too many gimmicks or a SINGLE gimmick, for playability! Just AWESOME console! Classic. Just classic…
My favorite Nintendo console of all time is the wii. I still have one and play it a lot. Great games and features, I love Wii sports, Wii fit and mario sports games. It just can’t be replaced easily. Even with emuladora I prefer to play on the real Wii. I didn’t have the opportunity to have a Wii U, so maybe if I had one my opinion would be different. Another good point of the Wii is the amazing home brew scene. Lots of great software made for the console by many people and the online that keeps alive with alternative servers. Such an amazing console.
Very surprised with your list but agree with your #1. I would have put SNES higher (past N64, Wii and Wii U). However, that is mainly because of their strong 3rd party lineup (namely, Square back in the day) than anything else. Agree with GC being #2 though, it really brought a lot of their core IPs up to excellence
Nintendo consoles are much more clear cut than sony or the handhelds. 1. Super Nintendo - Great controller, cutting edge graphics, 3rd party support and great first party games. Why it beat the Genesis by 20 million sales. Pretty much the complete package. They did away with trash accessories and nintendo power cheese in their games from the NES era. It was the last time their stuff was available worldwide wide too, They just locked in. 2. Switch: Its a hybrid of everything kinda like the casual audience of the wii, but with a game library similar to the GameCube with its passable 3rd party support and good first library. Its main issue is hardware performance, joycon sticks and paid + terrible online support. It has the worst online of any console for its time. 3. GameCube - Solid library, solid controller and solid price. Pretty much why it gets its spot, if it took normal DVDs it would have been a much better console. They could have done it without redesigning much at all. To improve the console, full size discs that were just not dvds and its own format would have been better. Then add a second Z button, select button, bigger c stick cap and a bigger Dpad to the controller. Games like MGS need to do a button combo just to pause the game. 4. N64: Besides the game prices back in the day and the analog stick build quality this system is just peaks only no valleys. The third party system is poor, but the new experiences were very polished for the time and innovative. This is also when they cut many countries out of their availability dropping sales. Its software library + innovation is basically why it gets it spot. 5. NES - 60 million sales back then is crazy, especially when the average household spent under $100 on technology a year back then. Plus in a lot less markets, it shows a lot, they did get a bit greedy with some of their first party games, accessories, Games like Zelda 1 putting stuff in dumb spot to sell Nintendo Power, etc. This level of greed I would say came back in the Wii, U and Switch era sadly. Saving the video game industry is the most important thing. 6. Wii - Basically tied with the NES but innovating in 2006 is a bit easier than 1985. The consoles are similar focusing on simple games that are easy to grasp. The 2nd half of the console’s livespan was painful since it was basically an overclocked gamecube and the games released from 2010 to 2014 were pretty bad. Shovelware was super high, the classic controller/gamecube controller wasnt support enough. Nunchuck should have had a clickable stick by now and the classic controller should have kept its analog triggers and been supported more. A few dud games, bad third party support and the over reliance on 2-D platformers drop to below the NES for me. 7. Wii U, basically another Wii that was just PS3 level graphics released a year before the ps4 for $350 lol. Its software library was pretty mid and online support was actually the best Nintendo’s done. Splatoon 1, Smash Bros/Mario Kart , Mario 3D world and BOTW are the only genuinely good games imo worth $60 on the console. Pro controller was dumb, having the sticks like that. Honestly the next console could be #1 if they do a Super Switch with: - Backwards compatibility, unlocked framerates on all games, same with dynamic resolution games. Should be a switch cartridge slot, controller backwards compatibility should only be for wired + pro controllers. - Nvidia T264 Chip ~ PS4 pro power. - Extra chip in dock to handle I/O and Ai upscaling with Nvidia Technology. - 12+ GB DDR5 Ram - A Real full speed USB C port - AX wifi + Bluetooth 5.4 Chip - 1080p 7inch IPS screen Controllers: - Joycon’s get Hall Effect Joysticks and the sticks are made slighty bigger with more travel. - Left stick should have an Octagonal gate, right stick should have a circular - ZL/ZR have pressure sensitive triggers, with slim profile. Solid list and a reasonably logical approach, but I"d be more inclined to rank them in the context of their time, as others here have mentioned. I'd also leave the Switch out of the running, due to it being the current console and thus not being able to be viewed in hindsight with a complete and final game library. Considering that along with the rest of the metrics you hit on in your video, my list - worst to best - would be: 6) Wii U... 5) N64... 4) SNES... 3) Wii... 2) NES... 1) Gamecube. Yep, I"m putting Gamecube at the #1 spot, because it's best Nintendo console, all things considered: streamlined, perfect controls, great graphics, smooth as silk gameplay across the board, excellent design both physically and with its interface, and incredible game library covering the broadest audience of any Nintendo console before or after.
Today's games are too derivative from the past. We're playing GTA 5, the twelth pokemon game, the tenth COD, not to mention all the remakes and reboots coming out. And if a brand new game comes out, past influences are often easily recognizable. To add to this, games are heavy and constantly need updates and patches and don't get me started on games that are released half finished or bug ridden and need months to get fixed. Or the need for dlcs to get a full experience. And, specifically to Nintendo, latest consoles have clunky and complicated controllers. This is why I put latest consoles in my personal ranking. N64 is easily the best console for the reasons you listed, games are fresh, original and fun. Then I'd put NES for the same reasons while the gamecube was an improved N64 but already lost its magic, same for the SNES compared to the NES. WII was a family console for casual fun, there was little for the dedicated gamer. WII U was too nerdy, niche and complicated to work out while the switch is just a big gameboy, good for the masses but it can't really attract the demanding gamer like back in the day.
