I live in Texas and personally I'd rate Federal Gov and APUSH higher. Federal Gov is 1 semester where I live and both go to your core classes. I took both dual credit instead though. My school doesn't require you take both economics classes and rarely offer microeconomics but they should. Some colleges only accept credit if you take both.

I have a question that everyone who has the answer can reply to. So, I'm thinking to do about 3-4 AP's and as you see the AP's is taken in May on senior year (in my school) and as a sophomore with loads of questions. How can i submit my AP's? when the AP's is taken way over the deadline for the college admissions. Also, note that my school is an American curriculum, so basically they offer AP classes in junior year and in senior we're required to take them. That's why I'm mid-edge confused and stuck
@ThinquePrep
@ThinquePrep 2 года назад
Your senior year APs will be taken AFTER you get accepted/denied from colleges. The idea behind AP courses is so that students can earn college credit, so you can submit your scores to the college you enroll at and hopefully get credit!
@nbunemer
@nbunemer 2 года назад
So, I'm a senior who took 9 APs over my highschool career. I took 1 sophomore year, 3 junior year and 5 this year and I got accepted into to Cornell University back in December (ED applicant). Basically, the reason why you take a lot of APs senior year is because on your common ap (the thing u use to submit college applications), colleges can see what you'll be taking senior year, and an increase in AP course load demonstrates continued commitment/ strenght as a student. As long as you do well in the actual classes (you will need to submit quarterly grades to colleges until acceptance), the score you get on the test itself doesn't rlly matter for admissions, only college credit.

I'm concerned 5 ap classes might be too much especially when having to study for the ACT and SAT along with trying to be involved in extra curriculars. The one that looks like it will be the biggest time commitment is Biology, especially if you're not a STEM person, but you definitely can't get rid of it if you want to go into STEM. If your school says APUSH isn't that bad, then this should be manageable. I would say that you should do your best to get ahead over the summer. See if you can start reviewing the first few chapters of AP Calc online, or start taking notes on APUSH. That way it won't all hit you at once!
@joshuasteiner5568

I'm currently a senior. I took all of those in junior year except for ap Spanish. Apush is my favorite high school class, my teacher was really good and it was really fun/interesting to learn about my country's history. Physics 1 is difficult, but it is manageable. I really liked taking calc ab with physics 1 because I felt having both of them really helped my problem-solving and mathematics capabilities. Also, I will say that learning the fundamentals of calculus over the summer before taking the class is helpful. Just learning how to take limits, derivatives, and integrals will give you a step up for managing the workload that you will have. AP lang I thought wasn't bad at all because the multiple-choice questions are similar to SAT multiple choice questions, so if you plan on trying to study a lot for the SAT (specifically English section) then you will get a lot of practice with the types of questions on the lang exam.

It’s very fun very interesting and then for the last one I would recommend Calc AB only because this will help with those advanced biochemistry classes you’ll take in college This is all if your school allows this, I personally took 3 AP sophomore year and I’m taking 5 as a junior so as long as you have a system to handle the workload, because it will be a significant jump from your freshman year, but as long as you’re aware of the challenge go for it!

LOL I’m dumb n I’m just here looking for GPA boosters bcuz my gpa not looking too well. 😰. I’m doing AP econ/gov, Ap stats, ap art, ap cs next year. And I have one more slot bcuz I’m taking English dual enrollment. I don’t know whether I should take ap physics 1 or just regular physics.. after watching all these tier ranking videos im afraid ap physics is out of my comfort zone, but I’m also trying to prove college my capability. I honestly just want to go to a cal state, but I have no extracurricular activities, so the main thing I’m relying on rn is my academic stats. PLS HELP im so stressed bcuz at this rate I think I have to take the CC pathway even though I rlly js wanna jump straight to a cal state.

Idk if I am too late but I would focus more on extracurricular’s. But if you do get A’s in all of those classes that shows colleges your academic improvement which is good.

what if the calc teacher doesnt teach and almost everyone fails his class?
@ThinquePrep
@ThinquePrep 2 года назад
That's a hard one to answer. If you're looking at STEM majors like engineering, computer science, bio/chem, physics, etc. colleges will be looking for that Calculus class. If you don't take it, they would want a really strong reason why. In my experience, a bad teacher isn't a strong enough reason, because in college you will get A LOT of bad teachers. I would almost always suggest that a student find a way to take calc -- even if not at their own high school If there are no options, I'd still suggest taking it at your high school and getting some extra help from a tutor or something -- especially if you want to go to a highly selective college.

Could I take AP Physics as a sophomore?

Absolutely, if your school lets you!

We would recommend you have taken trigonometry before taking AP Physics though, because a solid understanding of triangles will allow you to make it through the class more easily.

With all due respect, this guy is making these classes seem really hard and might convince you to not take them. The thing you need to realize is that the difficulty of a class is not so much based on your intellect as it is on your dedication. And no, you cant just put in more hours and say you're trying hard. You need to *apply* yourself and study effectively to understand and make connections. Then the classes just seem like challenging courses, not unpassable hellholes. But the majority of students don't have the work ethic or don't understand how to study well so you hear so much about APs being hard.

Biased towards stems

Remember the criteria was from that of an admissions office. So, from that perspective, yes -- admissions are biased in favor of STEM. If the speaker had his perspective on rankings and importance in cultivating knowledge, then the ranking list would be different!
