Hi, everyone! Today, I made the definitive AP tier list. I have ranked all thirty-eight (38) Advanced Placement classes via vibe check. Enjoy!
After my most recent AP score reaction video, I am officially done with AP and CollegeBoard. In commemoration, I wanted to take one last look at the Advanced Placement program by making a comprehensive tier list of all 38 AP courses.

The fact that you’ve taken 13 APs is insane, but there was a kid in my grade who took 13 SELF STUDIES his senior year (we’re in the same grade). In addition, he took like 6 self studies junior year and 4 in person APs, and like 4 other APs sophomore year. He probably ended up taking 25 or so AP classes. He got a 36 on the ACT and will probably graduate 2 years early in college. Insanely smart kid

Personally when it comes to taking AP exams I think it depends on just two factors: 1) Your interest in the class 2) The quality of your teacher If you are interested in the subject and have a great teacher any class is S tier. So don’t let this tier list guide your opinion too much.

@johnjamele
@johnjamele 3 года назад
@@LourDrickValsote APUSH is not as memorization-heavy as it was before the big reformat in 2014. It's much more about document analysis and usage now (every MCQ is based on a document, as are the SAQs and of course DBQ,) leaving the LEQ as the only part of the test which still relies on the student being able to pull facts out of their head. Also, ETS tells you the Essential Information so you can skip Sherman Silver Purchase Act, etc.

My experience with AP: AP Human Geography: I enjoyed what I learned in this class. It went really in-depth as to WHY people do what they do, human habits, religion, immigration, and social constructs regarding politics and industry. It also helped me learn where the countries were on the map in most cases. The teacher was alright, but the picture on the test was unreadable and is probably the reason I got a 4 instead of a 5 on the exam. somewhat valuable information. Low A tier. AP Euro History: My teacher for this class makes me hella biased, and I also took the test in 2020. I loved the info for this class and learning this history wasn't made as hard as it was in the majority of the other classes because of who my teacher was. great info on wars, and thinking in-depth as to what caused the events and the real unfolding of Europe from the medieval times. However, if you asked me for any information past what was on the 2020 exam. Couldn't tell you. for that I give it a B tier. only AP test I got a 5 on in my life. AP Seminar: I had a bad teacher for this one in my opinion. The real test sucks a little more than the one I took in 2020, but I didn't really get any help with writing the essays or really learning how to construct a good essay from this class. I kind of just got told to write. I learned how to research well tho. It's unfortunate this is a Capstone class and doesn't actually give college credit in the majority of accredited colleges. PLUS the test costs more. for those 2 reasons alone I'm putting this class in the D tier. I got a 4 tho. pretty alright. AP Biology: 20/10 I'm super biased. I want to go into Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering so this class was super amazing. My teacher was stellar and I learned so much. I got to take this class in my sophomore year so I felt super cool (this is a junior/senior class at my school but a heavy focus on seniors) and overall I enjoyed my time. Labs were actually fun. I'd put this in my S tier for sure. The teacher was amazing. Gives 8 college credits because of the labs, and I got a 4 :) I'm taking 4 more APs this year. Calc B/c APUSH, AP Physics 1, and AP lang so wish me luck. I might spontaneously combust. :) Hah Edit 1 year later for anyone who comes across this: AP Calc BC: I loved this class and the teacher, and in a normal year I probably would have done really well on the exam. The first few exams were super easy IMO and I got a lot of great math knowledge from them. However, things really took a turn when content started to get more difficult. I don't learn math well over a computer screen so It was a lot harder to grasp concepts that were incredibly prevalent on the exam. I got a 2. :( RIPPP I still recommend this class to anyone thinking of a STEM major. Probably A-B Tier despite my scores APUSH: Easy class, Bad teacher. The content is basically the same content that is taught in middle school with this added complexity of nuance. I feel like I was prepared for the test (it was a really easy test this year) and my teacher was incredibly boring. I tend to do well in history because as long as you explain why things happen and provide specific context you'll be fine. Very good class for getting College Gen Eds out of the way. B tier. AP Physics 1: WHERE DO I F---ING BEGIN ON THIS CLASS. I honestly hated it, even though I'm taking the calculus-based version (Ap Physics C: Mechanics) This year. I feel like the test is too open-ended and the math is so frustrating in algebra compared to calculus because a 2-second problem may take 4 minutes in algebra vs calculus. I also tend to be very bad at deriving equations without any numbers in them. I feel like I may have done better if I attended this class in person and did hands-on lab work, but honestly just take a calc class (AB or BC) and take AP Physics C Mechanics if you're offered it instead. You'll waste a lot less frustration and time. I passed the exam, but it wasn't worth my time. D tier. This year my schedule is more dual credit heavy, and you may want to look into the preferences of the colleges you want to apply to. Some schools actually prefer Dual credit options over AP. I am however in AP Psych and AP Physics C Mechanics this year (2021-2022). I'm finally almost out of high school heck yeah.

My experience with the AP classes I've taken: AP psych: Took this one my sophomore year. It was my only AP class that year and I was extremely passionate about it because I want to do something related to psychology in the future. I pretty much studied for 3-6 hours every week (which is a lot for me) because I had daily quizzes. My teacher was really nice too. I got a 5 on the final exam. This is also the only AP exam I've taken with the normal testing procedures, so that's interesting. AP lang: Took this class my junior year along with APES and APUSH. Honestly, this class was a drag most of the time because my teacher gave weekly essays. However, this class improved my writing skills SO much. I went from spending an hour or two on a single paragraph to being able to write an entire essay in 45 minutes. Wish my teacher focused more on multiple choice though. If COVID-19 hadn't hit, my score probably would've been lower due to my lack of multiple choice practice. I also got a 5 on this exam. APES: Honestly, this class was so boring and a lot of it was common sense. I think it had to do with my teacher, though. He had a really monotonous voice and didn't really seem confident in what he was teaching. I took that class easier than I should've and ended up cramming those COVID-19 prep videos in the 2 days before my exam. I ended up studying every unit except for the last two, and those were the two that were the most prominent on my exam. I think I got the hardest version of the exam though, because I ended up with a 4. I was sure that I was going to fail. APUSH: Honestly, this class and psych are probably my favorites. I had an AMAZING teacher that would help us unlearn false American history facts we've been told. American history is very disgusting, but it's necessary to know in order to change. I was motivated in this class, but slightly less motivated than psych. There was a LOT of information and my mind would zone out for some units (ex. Jacksonian era and the railroad unit. The railroad unit was SO boring), but my teacher still made class fun. She didn't teach us a lot about how to write a LEQ or DBQ though, so most of my skill on that came from my AP Lang class. I think if I had taken the full exam, I would've struggled the most on the multiple choice and the LEQs. I ended up getting a 5 though! I'm currently taking AP bio (currently procrastinating on studying for an exam. We're only on Unit 1 but this class is so damn hard. Maybe it's the way my teacher teaches), AP lit (agreed with what you said about lit being lang but a little less good), and ap gov/macro (semester courses. Ap gov is currently interesting though!) Someone please help me with bio. There's so much chemistry. tldr; Take AP lang along with a history AP class. Also, I need help with bio.

Ranking AP classes I’ve taken: AP Lang.- A Definitely helped with my writing skills. AP Lit.- B Similar to AP Lang. but more reading and I got introduced to some amazing authors. AP World History- A I honestly thought it’d be really boring but I ended up really enjoying it and learning a lot. AP Psychology- A Really interesting to learn about Psychology. AP Spanish- D A lot of the Spanish is very basic conversational Spanish and I didn’t feel like I knew more after the class than I did before.

Here's my opinion as a college freshman on the APs I took in high school Sem: seminar at my school was the replacement for honors english 2. We had a 4 term schedule but seminar was oddly fit around the two terms of winter break. Because it was considered english, we mostly just wrote essays, read books and did vocabulary. I remember my exam essays from during class were corporal punishment (group) and grapheme color synthesia (individual). working in groups is not my forte but my group was decent so I never felt angry, just stressed. I love the individual report because I picked a topic I really enjoyed. I think the theme that year for indivduals was "perception" so i got lucky. Overall, I'd put it at C, because it was a lot of stressful writing and it only got me an elective credit for college. My suggestion is to take it if you like research and essays and are committed to the exam because that's all the class is. Also, look at colleges you're interested in to see if they give a credit (if at all) for the class. My score was a 3. Lang: honestly similar to Sem. It was the replacement for honors english 3. I think I didn't like it as much because of the teacher. The class felt like I never learned anything, because she made us learn all the terms in the summer so we could pump out essays during class. It definitely improved my writing skills and I really liked writing my argument essay on climate change and penguins. I'd put it at B. It got me out of Writing 101 in college, but my writing assesment for college would've covered it anyway. My score was a 4. Psych: psych was my favorite class with my favorite teacher, and im a psych major. But really, the class is just all memorization. From what I've heard, itd very easy to self study for. I'd definitely put it at the tip top of the classes I took. God tier. It got me credit for psych 101. I got a 5. Lit: i honestly never had a clue what was happening, which is surprising because mu teacher was an ap grader for the exam. I didnt even know the exam had multiple choice until it got taken off for the covid exams. The class was a lot of reading books that weren't all that interesting. I'd put it at D because I cried on the bathroom floor while taking the exam because I was convinced I was going to get a 1 or 2. I got credit for Literature 102 with a 3. Calc AB: I was confused probably 99% of the time after chapter 1, but I passed with an A. Probably because of how often I went to get help. I took the class with my 2 best friends and definitely didnt pay enough attention. However when I was reviewing for the exam, I realised it wasnt all that bad. My teacher, tutor and friends helped me get through the class. I'd give it a C, because I was often stressed but I persevered. It was also the first exam I took online so i was hella nervous. I ended up with a 4, and I got credit for math 121 and 222 (which i believe is fundamental algebra and calculus 1) however similar to lang, I was already out of thise classes because of my math placement. The good thing is that with the AP credit I get credit hours whereas with placing higher, I eould need to fill those credits with other classes. Finally, Stats: i feel like stats gets so much shit for it feeling like an english class and relying on a calculator, but thats literally what the class is. I loved it. I had the same teacher as for calc ab and took it at the same time. Stats didnt make me feel nearly as stressed. The exam was so easy in 2020 because I wrote all my basic responses without the numbers plugged in, organised them, and basically copied them for the exam. If you go into it knowing that its a lot of writing and accepting that, I think people would enjoy it more. I was hoping for a 5 but I got a 4, and credit for math 119, statistics. Because of calc ab and stats, the only math class i have to take for my psych/enviro science double major is biostatistics. Honorable mention: Enviro science: i self taught myself APES by watching all the review videos posted by the college board. My school didnt offer it, which is upsetting because I am an ES major and it could've really helped me with my credits. I think the information is engaging, however I struggle with chemistry so that was a downfall I ended up with 70 (yes, 70) pages of notes from the videos. It took a few weeks of intermittent work but it was worth it because now I can go into ENS 101 intro to environmental science with a little bit more background. The earth is something we all have to live with so we should learn about it to. I'd give it an A based on Ms. Fassler and Dr. Sowell who did the online videos because you could tell they loved teaching APES. Final thoughts: My favorites were stats and psych with apes as an honorable mention. Know what credits you could be getting, and take classes that interest you. I never took an ap language, history or art because those topics dont interest me. I would rather take an intro to art class in college to count for full time enrollment rather than coming in with a butt ton of credits. I ended with with 21 credits from my exams at my uni. Also, the class experience is dependent on who you have as a teacher, so take that into consideration. Overall, don't stress yourself out too much. Have fun in high school.

@regan679
@regan679 3 года назад
@@rosemarierosales3616 An ES major blends the sciences together. Chemistry, biology, geology, sustainability, regulations, climate, physics, limnology, ornithology, etc. There are many focuses you can have with science. You can focus on labs and field work, policies and regulations for law making and project management, you could combine with engineering for environmental engineering or education to be a science teacher or professor. You could focus on wildlife, ocean, forest, mountain, birds, large animals, anything really. Job options include marine biologist, meteorologist, biotechnician, forester, environmental lawyer, health officer, environmental reporter, water quality manager, etc. If you chose to specialize with business or law, you would have to go to school for longer. My current bachelors degree of science is 4 years, and my goal is to be an educational park naturalist for a park system that works with schools. I'd say many people who have in ES have ma/mis in education, chemistry or biology. Or you're weird like me with a double ma with psych :p The class itself is much like ap psych. There are many terms and examples that require mental application of the terms. I can't really speak about taking the class, I would assume its a lot of reading and memorizing. If you feel you have enough AP classes already, I might encourage you to learn it on the side on your own. I think if you did something similar to me and watched the videos and did their practice problems, you could take the test without the class. I watched all the vids at 1.5x speed and did about 3 videos a day over the summer. My intro to environmental science class in college is lectures on monday, wednesday, with a final group project that meets on fridays. On tuesday (or thursday) is the lab. Sometimes we watch movies, write short response papers, observe environments, or do field labs like collecting invertebrates from the creek that runs through campus. If you have any more questions let me know, I'd be happy to answer :)

If your a normal kid don't jump in and take too many APs at once. I think you should really focus on your GPA a lot more. I'd say I'm an average joe and I took 3 Aps junior year and by all means wasn't easy. My GPA is a 3.0 and I thought I was ready but in reality I wasn't. I ended up passing 2/3 and I know receiving college credit sounds great but looking back on it i should've made a better decision. I'm a senior year now and in a year I've changed a lot and have learned a lot about myself. I figured out that I wasnt motivated and i wasnt engaged into school as many other kids. If your planning on taking APs you should ask yourself am l really going to do my best. Getting college credit as a high schooler sounded great and a lot of my friends were choosing APs so I decided to go with the flow. My counselor also persuaded me as did my teachers. In all honesty it was hard for me because I was going through a really weird stage in my life mentally and I wasn't really locked into school as I should have. Looking back on it know I think students should try and make better decisions for themselves based of who they are and not make the same mistake I did. I think you should take things at their own pace and not just jump right in. I know everyone's different and if your motivated and you really believe in yourself then by all means go for it. I just wanted to share my story to get it off my chest. Getting to know who you are and bettering yourself little by little is the key to success. It took me some time to figure this out but good luck to anyone that reads this.

it's the exact opposite for me. in my time as freshman and sophomore, teachers and staff would continuously argue against taking too many AP's and such. at one point, one of the school counselors made an estimate that we should invest 1 hour everyday after school for each AP class. this really kept me away from diving into AP, until my junior year where i signed up for CSA and APUSH. they were great, and it was then that i realized how awfully dramatic people were being. this year, im taking micro and macro, psych, stat, eng lit, and physics c mech. they were all very manageable (except for physics, i dont think i belong in that course, not having taken ap physics 1 or any ap calc classes before). at the time of writing this, im done with 4 ap exams and i believe i did relatively well. all of this is to say i really regret not taking more ap classes (or doing dual enrollment) in my first 3 years of high school

My experiences on the ones you didn't take but I am: Calc BC: actually if you did AB the year before then BC is easier because you don't learn as much! there's only a few key concepts left to learn. CS A: very good class if your teacher actually gives you coding assignments. Way better than CS Principles because you actually code. Physics 1: Quite basic to be an end game physics class, Physics C is an important follow up. Chinese: Awesome test, very standard and well rounded for Chinese learning. Good test of culture, reading characters, listening, speaking. French: might kill me because I have to write an essay?? why can't they just story from pictures like Chinese. (apparently its supposed to be hard but gets you tons of credits for college) Euro: Content is interesting if you like wars, disease, and tons of people dying. I would prefer it to APUSH but World is good too (world isn't too in depth though). If they had asian studies I'd like that most. AP test is exactly like all other history APs. Econ: content and terminology can get quite technical and confusing. May be less practical than a finance class for personal gain but macro would be good for understanding our country's economy, stock market.
@camille744
@camille744 4 года назад
Also for Seminar and Research the kids at my school got to chose their study subjects. Seminar is basically an intro to research and presentation (gets high school kids used to long essay projects and presenting for a grade). Research lets you get credit for planning a year long research investigation. Both are unique in that only Seminar has an AP test, but even then it is shortened. Seminar combines the grade from a 2 hour AP test and 2 research projects. Research has no AP test and instead they're evaluated on the presentation (and possibly an oral defense) and 4000+ word research paper. Seems pretty dope to me especially since you can chose any topic you want. Some of the topics I've seen have been really serious/academic whereas others are far from it.

As someone who has taken AP Drawing/2D (they were almost linked in my school, you had to choose one of the two to submit your portfolio through) I can tell you they are similar but different. The one you took, AP 2D, is more geared to the meaning of the pieces you make and your ability to link them to each other. The one I chose, AP Drawing, is more geared to looking at your use of materials/your process. These AP classes were more intended for those who want to make their original art, those who already have learned a bunch about art. It focuses less on teaching you new things, and guiding you through using what you know to make either meaningful art(AP 2D) or more personalized/in your style art(AP Drawing). If you wanted a class that teaches you fundamentals of art and such, I would've suggested you take Studio Art or Drawing and Painting. I have taken/currently am taking 13 AP classes as well. Here is my take on them: AP Human Geography - I took this in my freshman year as my first AP. Loved it so much, made me want to pursue linguistics and really helped provide background to many economic, APUSH, AP World, AP Lang, AP French and other subject essays. Really good starter AP. S tier AP Physics 1 - I am bad at Physics, barely passed and I had an AMAZING PASSIONATE teacher. I’ve always been bad at connecting concepts to numbers. You get it or you don’t, and I didn’t. That’s why the pass rate on AP Physics 2 has a higher pass right. Didn’t take the exam until the NEXT year bc I knew I wouldn’t pass. D tier. AP Calculus AB - I got a 3 because I couldn’t turn in half of my test in (2020 online testing…but I only turned in half a test and passed so….). It was boring af. I fell asleep soooo much. It’s an easy class if you have time to dedicate to homework and want to. I didn’t….so I didn’t. Still got a B by passing my final with a 100, don’t recommend trying to learn all of it before a final or exam tho. Def not when I was a sophomore with a bunch of seniors that also gave up…B tier for effort needed AP World History - Loved it, took it sophomore year. Really helped prepare me for speed writing essays due at midnight 2 hours before. Felt it was a little too Eurocentric tho…B tier AP Physics 2 - I had to take this as a part of my STEM program’s required course work. GREAT if you love physics…it’s more of a continuity of physics 1 rather then branching into differing topics like the Cs. D tier. Took the Physics 1 and 2 exam in junior year. 2s on both: didn’t know anything. AP US History - Had a lot to do with memorization rather then broader connections like AP World, which I’m bad at personally. Interesting sometimes. Took it in junior year during COVID, probably might have enjoyed more if done other wise. Got a 3. C tier AP Lang - It was okay. Only learned how to do 2/3 essays because I took in my junior year hybrid COVID times. Fun sometimes tho….still got a 3. C tier. AP Seminar - I want to be a researcher and this helped prepared me but by the end I was unable to devote myself to projects because I was doing international DECA and Science Fair competition level projects. Great if you’ve got the time!!! B tier. AP Calc BC - Took as a part of Calc 2 class. Easy as a continuation. Hell as a first class. C tier. AP Environmental - I LOVE the environment so I self studied this course. Got a 4. Very basic simple intro science AP course. Highly recommend. A tier. AP French - am taking it. It really helps me develop my writing skills and listening ability. Need to study tho. Don’t take if you don’t have a grasp on the language or time to study. A tier. AP Art History - Am self studying for it. SOOO MUCH MATERIAL!!! But recommend. B tier. AP Research - Very fun. Easy class full of independent work as proctored at my school. No exam. Easy to incorporate science fair project with. I’m addition with APs I am familiar with. AP Psych - A tier. Can be SUPER fun. AP Stat - Great math to take to take a break from AP calculuses. A tier. AP Chem/Bio - So much material. Be prepared to study. Scope out the teacher. A bad one can BREAK you a good one can literally change your life. B tiers. AP Arts/Music Theory - wanted to take them but couldn’t because I wasn’t able to take the pre reqs but it seems like a fun class if you’re passionate about pursuing this. B tier. Other AP Languages - same advice for AP French. A to B tiers. (A lot of colleges don’t accept AP Italians btw) AP Econ/Gov - I took these classes dual enrollment. And I DO NOT regret. I have heard more people whine and cry over this class then ANY AP Science. But that might be due to the new types of subjects unusual to AP Humanities courses. C tier.

1) If you are good at math, I recommend taking AP Calc AB. I personaly didn't find the content hard and got a good grade in the class (although I only got a 3 on the exam). I am currently in AP Stats and I don't find it too difficult! 2) AP Lang and AP Lit are good classes to take if you do not mind the reading! During AP LIt, Books/Plays I enjoyed were The Crucible, Raisin in the Sun, The Handmaids Tale, The Great Gatsby, Great Expectations, and Tess of the d'Ubervilles. Books/Plays I hated were Wuthering Heights, Hamlet, Metamorphosis, and Heart of Darkness. All schools choose different books though! I scored a 5 on this exam and thought it was pretty easy! I am currently in AP Lang and have enjoyed everything so far! 3) AP Psych is a very interesting class and almost all of the content covered is interesting enough to pay attention to! The terms are not too hard to memorize in my opinion and the content isn't overwhelming. I also scored a 5 on this exam 4) I am currently in Ap Chem. Don't take it unless if you hate yourself

I took AP French, but my god, that test was LONG. You had: -30 multiple choice questions based on text -35 multiple choice questions based on text OR audio OR both -15 minutes to read AND WRITE a formal email reply -50 minutes to write a 5-paragraph argumentative essay based on a chart, a text, and an audio source -a 2 minute on-the-spot presentation about an aspect of French culture compared to American culture -a 6-question informal dialogue with a robot And apparently all the language exams are set up that way. I feel like the rankings really depend on the teacher. I took BC calc my junior year and it honestly wasn’t hard at all. I like math and I’m able to comprehend math related concepts pretty easily so that definitely helped me. Also my teacher was the goat. The weekly Friday quizzes were open note and he made most homework optional, so I was never stressed about doing calc homework. He made the content very clear and easy to learn. He was also just a fun teacher in general so it made the class actually enjoyable. What I’m tryna get at here is that experiences in AP classes will vary depending on the teacher and the student.

I did APUSH last year, and I'm doing AP gov and calc AB this year. My school district pays for certain college classes at various community colleges and we get college and high school credit for them (they're treated like APs, but they're easier imo). In middle school, I really wanted to do AP psych, but now that I'm at the grade where I actually could do it, I've already done 3 college psychology classes (intro [which is the only credit I'd get in the community college for AP psych], abnormal psychology [my favorite], and personality psychology [it was okay]). I've also done some English composition college courses. I kinda want to do AP Lang but I low-key hate writing essays 😒

I took 4 APs in HS. I took Human Geaography my freshman year and struggled. The work wasn't difficult, I was just extremely lazy and hardly did the work. I took US History in 11th grade and loved the class. Most of the material came naturally to me and the teacher was great. I then took US Gov't and Politics my senior year and just like with US History I loved the class, the material came natural to me, I loved the debates our teacher would allow us to have, and the teacher was just great as he would constantly bring us in food and snacks. I also took Environmental Science my senior year. The only reason I took APES was because of the teacher. The teacher made the class fun and he was very laid back. We had a lot in common and would constantly make jabs towards one another. He would also constantly bring us in food and snacks just like my Gov't teacher. There were lots of different labs and the class was just very interesting. The teacher of the class would also always help me get out of my English and math classes and because this teacher was very well respected and had been at the school for close to 25 years I never had to make up the work In the classes that I ended up missing. If every teacher was as great as he was, then the education system would be a hell of a lot better.

I took AP Seminar and Research and they are both difficult coarse but they are worth it in terms of college. They prepare you for college and some may even give you gen ed credit. In seminar you have 4 projects and an exam, two projects you do collaboratively with others, and the other 2 are by yourself. In the two projects its a written paper and then a presentation, with others or by yourself. In research you chose a topic (which you do in seminar too) and you start from the beginning of the year researching and writng your paper, so it is a year long process on a single project. You need to do an IRB application because you conduct your own research and have a methods and findings section, as well as a lit review. Usually in addition to the 5000 word paper you have to do a 20 or so minute video on your research (and this counts toward you ap exam). This year I did not have to do that because of COVID, so 100% of my ap exam was the paper. and when you do presentations in seminar and research they are recorded and sent to college board even though your teachers are the ones that grade it. But sem and research really prepare you for college and get you to that writing and research level that you need to be in college and gets you ahead of your peers.
