Glad to see Thy Light get some love. Been a fan of that band for a long time but they rarely get mentioned. Thy Light and Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult are definitely top tier for me, along with Marduk.

Finally someone else who isn't a fan of Emperor's vocals! Everything else is phenomenal imo, but those bloody scratchy sounding vocals kill it for me. Much more of a fan of the Legion from Marduk style but yeah, great list! Keen to see your thoughts on how shit safe black metal is hahaha

There's a lot of these bands that I don't listen to, so I'll just say that my favorites from the list are Leviathan, Deathspell Omega, Emperor, Xasthur, and Ulver. Bethlehem and None are also quite good

Mine would be similar. Mayhem would be my bottom of B. They only have a couple good releases. Forteresse would be SS tier. Im curious though, where would you rank Kaevum? I think Natur is probably my all-time favorite BM album.

What is safe black metal? That would be interesting, because I'm not even sure what it is. But I think I might kind of be able to guess, maybe? Seems like a whole new subgenre, waiting for me! Or, not.
