Victoria Waterfield, Turlough, Mickey and Liz Shaw are inordinately underrated.

The Ponds are my favourite, so I hope they get good marks. I also expect to see Bill get some much deserved love!

Controversial, but I think I prefer Rory to Amy, he was so loyal and waited for her whilst also being funny and lovable. It just felt like Amy abused him for half the season and cast him aside for the doctor, choosing him in the end made up for some of it but he always chose her?

Clara is the best, the companion with the best outfits

My top 5 would be: 1, Sarah Jane Smith 2, Donna Noble 3, Jo Grant 4, Ace 5, Captain Jack Harkness

Clara is my favourite for Jenna Coleman being a phenomenal actress alone!

6:04 Catherine Tate and Matt Lucas are primarily actors - they might have become better known for comedy, but they studied drama first. Tate trained at Central School of Speech and Drama, with acting experience in the West End, National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company before we saw her doing comedy on TV. Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Steven Taylor, Liz Shaw, Leela, Vislor Turlough, Hex Schofield, Donna Noble and Bill Potts would probably be the ones in my top tier. Maybe Nardole too? I feel wrong not putting him up there. You should definitely do one of these for Classic Who and Big Finish companions, I'd love to see your thoughts on them! Edit: I almost forgot. If you're going to make sweeping statements about Classic Who companions, at least try and show clips that aren't just from one companion, across only two stories. It makes you look a little bit ignorant.

Include the classic companions and I suspect Chibnalls era will still be pretty low even though they're considered as a bunch of screamers who do nothing, which I don't believe is strictly true. Give me Ian Barbara and Susan rather than the 'fam' any day.

Jamie, Romana II and Ace are marvellous. Also, I love what BF done with Mel, she was bad in the show, but awesome in audios

Clara and Captain Jack are right up at the top where they belong. I feel like I'm in the minority for thinking that Clara's the greatest companion in New Who so it's nice to see her get the recognition that she deserves. She might even be the greatest companion in Doctor Who's long history although I haven't seen enough of Classic Who to know that for sure.

I enjoyed your rankings. Actually, I enjoy any time the two of you work together. Such a great feeling of fun and friendship! I would probably put Rose as Very Good - in her first season, she was "fantastic" and in her second season she was "okay", so I would split the difference and call her "very good". Thought your top two tiers were well place. Everybody in the top two tiers deserve to be there. I would quibble about the placement of Yaz and Graham - for me, Graham had a great and funny personality whereas I don't see much in Yaz beyond she is pretty. I don't see her really doing much or bringing anything exciting into the story, especially the first Whittaker season. But to each his own. I want to mention that in Classic Who, there really is not that much "running, falling and screaming for the Doctor" as a lot of people say. It is definitely there, but for the most part, 85 to 90 percent of the Classic Companions brought good things into the show and were strong characters. The clip of "Mel" (Classic Companion to The 7th Doctor) screaming her head off is right on target though - Mel either was filled with annoying energy or she was screaming her head off in terror. Thanks God Ace replaced her for the final two season!

Defo agree with Donna and Clara. I preferred Donna with the Tenth Doctor they were a great duo. I really enjoyed the Twelfth Doctor and Clara too. The dynamic really worked.

5:00 Justice for Grace - the only really good Chibnail era companion. 7:00 Genuinely disagree. Donna and Wilf are such higher level of companions, than any other series had. Matching it with Rose who was strong choice for the new season and Martha that is majorly underrated and it will give you the best era for companions. Like I love Moffat era. But companions from him have major flaws. Starting with the fact that I hate Rory and I never could warm myself to Nardole. I didn't really enjoy Amy as well - she was too big of an actual witch. Clara I feel like people hate the most from the group, due to her storyline - but I enjoyed a companion getting fully corrupted by Doctor becoming deadly reckless. Too ambitious companion doesn't annoy me. And there is Bill - who for me could have been the strongest companion in Moffat era, just a simple fry serving gal (which was very Donna being a simple Karen who typed). But they quickly flattened her characters into just her being attracted to women. And she didn't have that strong episodes either, until the very end. I want simple people really. That's why Graham and Grace were the strongest duo in Chibnail's. That's why I also really liked Rose and Jackie. Simple people put in extraordinary situations. 7:30 The issue with that poll was also that RTD and Moffat eras weren't just theirs. Like some of the biggest episodes of those eras often weren't written by the main person. Especially RTD era - Moffat had great impact onto the story and companion growth as well. And the grouping also doesn't help. People I think like Amy/Rory the most, but despise Bill and Clara nowadays. 9:10 I actually really like that moment - so petty. I hate whole romance saga though. Like I was ok with high school crush, but the Tennant cloning himself just for her was like ugh. 13:00 Oh I loved that comic. Why are Chibnail's stories not as good as any other medias with Jodie's Doctor... 17:30 The snap dude should be put a tier lower. Astrid was in my opinion way better companion than the spy chick as well. 18:35 Where is Wilfred? 19:00 Amy is overrated. Would put her next to Rose for sure. 19:05 Here he is. 22:20 No they do - Jenny is more standalone companion for the Red Thingy episode. I would say she is less relevant in other episodes, where Vastra I think is the main focus. And Strax also had a lot of his own moments. 27:00 You can relate to men, cause you are human... I don't know what you could relate with Yaz tbh. She is like non-existent for most part really. Like those one episode companions had more for them than Yaz had for most part. They better fix her with Graham family departure. I would even enjoy that Doctor x Yaz mechanic.

My favourite is Donna because before she meets the doctor she is a very normal person, not very special and she thinks she's stupid etc but after meeting the doctor she goes on to save thousands of people and does great things all for her to have to forget it all anyway which is an emotional ending

I must confess to feeling conflicted on River myself. She has some great episodes, and I prefer her with Peter. I didn't enjoy her arc with Matt. It just felt like Moffat trying to jam her into every aspect of the Doctor's life. Wife! _Not enough!_ Kills the Doctor! _Not enough!_ Gives her regenarations to save him! _Not enough!_ Child of his companion! _Yeah, that should do it!_

Christopher was amazing in big finish so I disagree on him sounding nothing like the way he did in 2005 he’s playing a younger version of his doctor if anything he sounds younger and better in my opinion in big finish

The classic companions tended not to have an actual character. (There are exceptions). But usually they had a single trait, or issue, and when that was resolved they left.

Don't understand why people were so harsh on Clara when she was the companion. Feel she was very underrated and. think there were worse companions (wont name them as I don't want hate )

The thing is I'm 15 and although I started watching Doctor who at series 10 I weirdly do have nostalgia with rtd's era.

Adam was great because he showed how bias the Doctor was and how mean the Doctor was. The original idea was that Adam was doing it to help his dad who was dying, similar to Rose in the next story, FATHER'S DAY. But the Doctor pushes away males and tries to impress the girls for some reason (wink wink). Osgood sucks when she's not alone with Capaldi. Osgood was a huge embarrassment. Kate is boring. Lynda is not a companion. Timmy, Tommy and Jake and Frank should have been! :)

You have no clue about Classic era Doctor Who and have a very ignorant view on it. Classic companions are running, tripping over and screaming all the time, with the Doctor saving them and then you just show some clips with Mel who was one of the worst companions in the worst era of the show (not counting Chibnall era)? And you can say that even though you don't relate to it because it is so old? OMG! Perhaps you should watch some of the Classic era stuff (preferably 3rd and 4th Doctor) before making such silly statements! Sarah Jane Smith is widely considered the best companion of the show and Jo Grant and Leela are also great, saving the Doctor more times than the other way around.
