@@helloerika According to many sources Norway has the highest standard of living in the world,Braut Haaland?Skiers?Oil? Those are just a few example about Norway. 🤘
Was thinking the same. High A/S tier in my opinon, it ranks on top of almost every index + it has unbelievable oil money that it managed very well. Also lot of musicians- Kygo, Alan Walker, A-ha, Aurora. Atheletes. and they've the most Winter Olympic medals ever.
Confusing Latvia with Lithuania is a bigger problem in Brazil because their names are even closer. Latvia is Letônia, something like the mix of Lituânia and Estônia. hahahaha
Terrible take on Spain, it's freezing up north!!! There's also more languages than just Catalan. If you think Catalan is bad, just take a glance at a single Euskera text. Only language next to Welsh that looks like a practical joke lmao.
The taxes in Switzerland are one of the lowest in all of Europe😂. And a lot of providers do include roaming here. It is expensive tho, but a Swiss salary is more than enough and better than any EU country
So excited you're going to Poland! I'm super curious about your impressions and I hope you have a great time. And indeed, Poland is doing better lately but maybe let's not go as far as putting it in A, B tier is already very much appreciated hahah
3:44 spain has galician in galicia (more similar to portuguese than spanish) and Basque language in bilbao ( basque region ) which is not even a latin language.
Will you do this for the neighborhoods of Pittsburgh (there are over 30 😁) - P.S. I've been to a lot of these and Lisbon/Portugal was my favorite. Great food. Passionate people. It's safe, beautiful AND gritty but not too shiny
I love how some countries get judged by their housing crisis and some by dracula, pasta or their name :). Just such an amazing video! btw. this room looks so comfy😮
Netherlands is my favorite EU country so far (only been to a few), but on my trip this summer, I got two speeding tickets for 8kph over the limit. That knocks them down a tier. Also, at security at AMS on my flight out, my carry-on bag got flagged. The security agent reaches for a corner of the bag and pulls out the item that was flagged - a pocket Dutch phrasebook. He laughed and said, "Only in Netherlands."
Very thoughtful well researched educated asseessment of european countries. you should be elected as the next president of the european commission for your work. hey by the way whats your thought on russia. u wanna visit moscow st petersburgh? u seemed very enthusiastic in one of ur videos about russian attributics
10:50 finland is part of fennoscandia and finland was formerly part of sweden and both countries share historical and cultural ties. Finland also has a Finland-Swedish minority.
Quite a few missing countries (with no-opinion probable in most cases). But Russia? I'm guessing that had to be left out for "diplomatic" reasons (and no, not for appeasement on a national scale). Way I see it is this: If you give it an F (or find that F is a bit too high, so where, then?), you might offend some fellow Estonians who speak that language, and even pine for a return to the "good old days". But if you give a D, you're guaranteed to offend everyone else, even if you have excuses like the way your granny's brother's cousin's family got deported to make space there, and never came back from "the East" again. After Vladolf Putler has been dealt with, or just ends the way we all do (not too long to wait for that, even), I think it might merit a kindly D, though. (Just pretend that it's all bright and shiny Moscow, and it could look that way - especially when you remember that the older generation won't be around there forever.) Be kind to Russia, and give it a D. That way the neighbours will be able to accept the rating, and eventually everyone else will come around to agreeing it's so in the Russia of, say, ten years time, where the oldies there finally all reach the point of becoming fertilizer like the rest of us one day will. Or just be like an average Russian, and have no opinion on the matter. (Or imagines that this is what the S+ tier was made for, I suppose.) Hmm, but then to keep the relative ratings at least partly "accurate", you'd have to give Ukraine an A at the same time, nê?
Like your choice of "misleading" thumbnail. Fits with the content, and I only noticed it after watching. Yes, I'm Dutch, but I don't think the Netherlands is full ;o). Keep doing what you're doing Erika. Love to see the growth of your channel.
Switzerland, at least the non-French part, is a low-tax country (including the healthcare insurance) compared to Germany and France. I'm German, live in Switzerland.
Portuguese person here...thank you for the nice grade! Just letting u now we also are struggling with housing the prices are just getting higher and higher. People usually only get a medium wage and even the people who have a strong education don't get much out of it. It's also very hard to get a job if u are a recent graduate. Most of all, we win for the incredible gastronomy (sad that u did not point that out) and the incredible good looking places that we have! We are a country full of history. We also have big greeny places unfortunately every year we get less due to the fires...what can we say? our government does nothing abt it. Anyways, thank you again for the comments. YOU DEFINITELY SHOULD COME!
Hello Erika! As a spaniard I have to recognize that your question about Spain ("Why do you make your life so hard?") is to be classified into the 'keen and wise' type of questions. Downgrading the country one step because of this is utterly appropriate.
The story, from what I know, about why we shake our head for yes and nod for no is linked to Bulgaria being conquered by the ottomans in the middle ages. According to the legend, my ancestors back then swapped the meaning of the signs, so when the Ottoman rulers asked whether they wanted to convert, we would nod our heads for yes, but we agreed between ourselves that nodding our head actually meant no.
I'm from Luxembourg and this idea that everyone here is rich... Every time I see the amount that is supposed to be the "average income", I look around and wonder where are all these people who supposedly earn that much! Here's the thing about statistics and averages: Let's say 8 out of 10 people earn 2000€ per month and the other 2 earn 22.000€ per month. This would make an average of 6000€ per person, even though 4/5 of the people only earn 2000€. This is exactly what's going on here. We have a lot of banks and a lot of bank directors earn a fortune and it's what those few people earn that makes the average so high and make it seem like everyone here is rich.
Thank you for your insight and opinions from your life and experiences in Europe :). I am currently looking to relocate to Europe from the US and really appreciate all of your insight 🥂
*Russia has left the chat room again... Not surprising, although if you remove all the propaganda, suddenly it turns out that we have a pretty good and interesting country.
I am from Spain. I would give the United States a grade of -D. If they paid us the $3 billion they owe us for our contribution to their independence from England, perhaps Spain would get an A+. This debt is fully in force under international law.
loved the post as a Europhile from the UK i have to say i broadly agree with you, except for the assessment of my country which, after the debacle of Brexit i think you rated too high
@@bertnijhof5413 Tell me you don't know anything about Dutch politics without telling me you don't know anything about Dutch politics.............. And German politics from the Austrian German painter. NSB isn't a political party. What you mean is the NSDAP. Your comment makes you look uneducated about these topics
@@Dany-z9s You don't know anything about Dutch politics. The NSB was the Dutch National Socialist Movement from 1930 to 1945. Movement in Dutch is Beweging, thus NSB. They executed the leading traitors in 1945 and 1946. The current PVV with as Cult Leader Wilders is a Nazi Party too, now they hate the Muslims instead of the Jews.
I have been to almost all the countries, however as you are from the Baltic, I must say that I felt a bit unsafe in Riga, in comparison Talin and Vilnius. Sorry 😢. Also, I’m from the UK, and agree with our grade. Might have even been a bit generous. 😊
About the Dutch housing crisis: generally, if you want social housing in one of the big cities, [Randstad] the waiting list is between 15 and 30 years. Market priced rental is usually way shorter of a waiting list; if you got the money you could move in next week so to speak. Mortgage housing depends on whether you can convince your bank/mortgage lender to lend you into a certain financial group so that you can pick the ‘most expensive’ house your income allows. We have a new government since 2024 (predominantly *very* conservative right wing, but with some key elements from left wing socialism) that promises a significant increase in the total amount of new houses that are to be built in the future. But yeah housing has always been a slow burner problem in The Netherlands. And we’re starting to creep up towards 20 million residents, so it’s quite the hot topic in our part(s) of the world!🙂
Maybe i am mistaken, but romanians didn't come up with Dracula. They had the real life role model (not 100% though) where also the name is from. The person comming up with the form you think of, of Dracula was Bram Stoker. And he got his inspiration from the story "Camilla" of irish writer Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. That story btw. takes place in the south east of austria (what is now the south east, not when he wrote it) ->Styria. That said, you call vienna "shiny"? No idea what you mean by that, but quick tip: ride the subway U6 early in the morning or in the evening, and you will not call vienna shiny anymore ;-).
Moldova, that's the grape shaped 🍇 country between Romania and Ukraine(yup, there is a whole county there) that was left out. Come to us, here in Moldova, we have awesome people, wine and nature 🙂
I feel like Hungary would have something to say about most difficult langauge & france definitely dont want you trying to speak their language, also for good food anywhere near paris thats big money. Im half dutch and agree with everything you said about Netherlands lol portugal is fantastic even in peak season. Very reasonable but lisboa locals got pushed out from digital nomads so just dont bother with lisbon unless its for architecture or something.
good thing that in France you're still required to know and speak french. imagine walking into a restaurant in Qatar or Egypt and having to ask if they have a menu in arabic
Hey, Erika. I hope you knew what you were doing with this video of yours, because If it was engagement what you were looking for.... Oh, boy, will you get one ! ;) Yes, the concept of presenting and explaining European countries has been rinsed and repeated a lot, but your comedic persona adds so much to it. Your Europe Explained video is a testament of that. I believe you should make more extensive research on the countries and make separate 10-20 min vids on each one, sprinkled with that funny timings and comments of yours. We, as Europeans, looove to hear other peoples opinions of us ("because we may not be better than others, but we certainly think we are"), and they get a lot of views, so hopefully you can start doing only youtube, because you have that uniqueness. I for one would watch all of them. Btw I am from Bulgaria, and while the head movement for 'yes' and 'no' is as you say here, it is accompanied with some face mimicking - like for 'no' we also like scrunch our noses while nodding our head up and down, and 'yes' looks a lot like Indians swing their heads left and right in agreement. Best of luck!
8:10 I accidentally stayed in the kinda bad part of town in Vienna (I was on a budget) & was surprised because I heard Vienna was nice & pristine haha So depends on where you go! Also 8:25 I thought Bram Stoker, the Irish writer, invented Dracula?
