I feel like Suicide Squad was way too high, but otherwise I mostly agree. I don't really get way the re-releases are so low though. I guess just because they are the same game again, but I personally prefer to play a re-release over Suicide Squad. That being said, especially after plaything through the main series recently, City is definitely the best overall as everything within it culminated into an utter masterpiece, especially with that ending and end boss fight. Everything from the story to combat, predator and puzzles feels rewarding. The Challenge Maps cam be awful, especially for the other characters, but the overall story and gameplay with Batman never really disappoints. And yeah... Knight... while it is technically marvelous, the gameplay mechanics are absolutely peak, but it is bogged down by less than stellar boss fights, most of which rely on the Batmobile that sadly is lacking creative mechanics. I think that the over reliance on the Batmobile is more than a fair critique as the portions you use it for become more or less uniform after Ace Chemicals. There are some neat ideas here and there with it, but ultimately the Batmobile lacks the variety that the Batman, himself, provides. As such, there aren't many obstacles the Batmobile faces that aren't simply races or tank battles. Granted, those are fun and well done in and of themselves, but those portions of the games are simply too frequent. While I do love the Batmobile, I hate the way it takes away from legitimately interesting encounters. Firefly is just a race through Gotham, and while that aspect is cool, the result is just drive fast and win. Sure you have to avoid his fire but you never really have to do more than dodge to one side of the road or the other, so it just felt like one of the AR race tracks as opposed to an engaging, high-speed boss battle. Firefly was actually done far better in Origins than Knight, and I have some issues with Origins hit boxes, but at least the battle was more interesting than just drive and win. Even Slade, or Deathstroke, has a way cooler fight in Origins, as opposed to Knight's tank segment that just ends with a cutscene of Slade launching from his tank, seemingly promising a hand-to-hand round, before Batman interjects and that's it. I mean, I would've laughed hard if Batman had just shot him with the cannon, but then again, Slade, especially thanks to Teen Titans, is this crazy deadly villain, so rather than treat him like the Electrocutioner in Origins... if after that he went to collect Slade's body maybe the merc got up so they have a hand to hand rematch that'd be awesome, maybe even involving the Batmobile in his final takedown would've been cool. However, Slade just gets jobbed like Firefly. I mean, not only did Origins do infinitely better with creative boss fights that saw full use of the predator and combat mechanics, but there was also Asylum and City that had unique and memorable boss encounters. By Knight, the villains just felt like an afterthought next to the Batmobile and that's honestly a great shame because so many could've done something interesting. I mean, Man-Bat isn't even doing anything but flying around! There's no investigative tracking or rooftop chase sequences, especially with the new glide mechanics, or anything to make his story interesting. You just tackle him 3 times and that's it. Sure, you get the backstory at the lab, but... you don't really interact with it apart from one unique puzzle, and that's all the nuance encountering the Man-Bat provides. Why not make use of the new glide mechanics that essentially enable Batman to fly? Imagine chasing Langstrom from island to island while trying to prevent him from feasting on the criminals occupying the city? Hey, that could be how you find him, by following bloody trails left from those Man-Bat scoops up into the sky! You find him drinking some goon on a rooftop and the chase begins over Gotham! If ever you fall down you can then use the Batmobile to launch back into flight before Man-Bat slips away over the buildings! Then, those glide upgrades might mean more than just faster traversal. Plus, maybe they could've introduced air dodging or something which could help formulate things for let's say... maybe a Batman Beyond entry? Just saying, it would've been cool to do more outside the Batmobile, and even the end of Arkham Knight, while a neat take of the final confrontation with Joker, leaves a lot to be desired. I mean, Scarecrow take you back to the Asylum, so I feel like this is a missed opportunity to have a grand final fight here, especially something hearkening back to Scarecrow's original puzzle segments. Sure, have the Fear Toxin free Batman from Joker, but then go into a full confrontation afterward. I mean, wouldn't Scarecrow rig the place to pump gas in? He orchestrated the entire night! Come on, he should have some back up plans, maybe even a villain or two lurking somewhere. Hell, have Gordon and Robin in peril because they're not immune to the toxin! Then, Jason can do more than just shoot the restraints off Bruce! With the whole Red Hood thing, maybe his getup has something that counters the toxin, or he has a cure, but just give him more than one bullet of redemption! Also, that being said, his story is a great let down, and I didn't feel at all like Batman did nearly enough to convince him to rejoin the Bat-Fam. Yeah, sorry, but as much as I love Arkham Knight for the gameplay mechanics, too many go under utilized in favor of the Batmobile, so the boss fights are lack luster, and the story is a bit more of a mess than it should be. Honestly, I think the game suffers from the idea of Batman being a God among men too. Not only does Batman take many actions that put people in danger he is responsible for both Batgirl and Robin being kidnapped due to his whole loner schtick, but that's never put into question and he always comes out on top, whereas Jason Todd's story could've been a reflection on him, a moral to learn not to do things alone. Even Origins touched on Batman needing allies in his crusade against crime, but for some reason Arkham Knight is too content to place Batman on this pedestal and keep him there by any means. Sure, there are pieces here and there that suggest he is leaving his city to the Bat-Fam, but he never doe fully relinquish himself to relying on everyone, and again, because he doesn't he get both Barbara and Tim captured! Even with Jason, the whole thing ends with Batman just having the high ground somehow and that alone convinces Jason to somehow stop going after Batman. Sure, it's arguably restraint and an act of mercy, but... what if Jason got to see that Batman was Joker infected? What if the Joker took over mid fight and triggered Jason? Then, with Joker in control Jason got the upper hand on him while Batman wrestled his way back. leading to a very tense moment between them where Jason realizes that not even Bruce could escape the clown unfazed, that they were both tainted by Joker, both unmade. Done right, the scene could've led Jason to question himself, especially if the Joker got to interject any lines, like (just spitballing), "Go ahead, lil J. Make papa proud!" And knowing he'd be fully giving into Joker, maybe Jason decides to spare Batman, especially now having seen what he is becoming through what Batman is turning into or perhaps even if he hears that Scarecrow has hold of TIm. Maybe that's the turning point, seeing that he's going to lead to the death of another Robin, someone no different than he was, a young man doing his best for Bruce. Point being: There is a way to reflect Jason Todd's story onto Batman and make it meaningful, but Arkham Knight just uses the Jason Todd story as a plot twist, and treats him as just another side character that happens to come back at the end. There's no relevance given, just a lame plot twist, and that's the worst part. Honestly, Jason doesn't even need to be there at the end. It could've just as easily been Nightwing and it would've played out the same, but without a gun firing into the restraint. Jason Todd's ultimate redemption just plays out like Robin's cameo in Arkham City. Oh cool, he's there! That's a character I know. Yay~ Except they built up Jason throughout the story, only for his presence to mean very little in the grand scheme. SPOILERS: the Arkham Knight as a villain accomplishes nothing. He isn't a good reflection on Batman and his past mistakes, nor does he get much redemption as a hero. That's why Arkham Knight falls short of City.
