Nice list and well explained, here’s my list. 6. Bowser’s warped orbit. 5. King Boo’s Haunted hideway. 4. Goomba’s booth Boardwalk. 3. DK’s Treetop temple. 2. Shy guy’s perplex express. 1. Koopa’s tycoon town. I was wrong about MP8, the game really has one of the creative boards, im excited for Super Mario party Jamboree 🎉
Personal Ranking: 6. Bowser's Warped Orbit - Out of all the boards with this mechanic I like it the least. While the Bowser and Bullet candy are cool, it's way too reliant on RNG to get them. 5. DK's Treetop Temple - I'm a fan of the traditional moving star for 20 coins, but this board is just too bland honestly. Bowser/DK spaces also feel very uninspired. 4. Koopa's Tycoon Town - First board I like in this one, despite not being the biggest fan of this system. I also like Windmillville more than this, since the orb mechanic works better on a board like this then candys do. 3. Goomba's Booty Boardwalk - Simple concept but lots of ways to approach this one, which I like. Bowser/DK spaces are once again very underwhelming though. 2. Shy Guy's Perplex Express - Just all around a good board. I don't really have to say much about this one. 1. King Boo's Haunted Hideway - Unironically my favorite board in the entire series and I played every MP aside form the arcade ones. My only gripe with this one, it should be bigger, the concept is fantastic, you just find right or wrong room(s) too early.
1:45 the way I SPIT out my MILK. Boo’s hideaway is the most unique board I feel I’ve ever played in MP franchise. The fact that the board shuffles every time makes it soooo fun and every time I showed it to someone who’s never played Mario Party they’ve fallen in love.
I kinda wished I liked MP8 more. It really was a good step forward for the franchise before 9 (as much as I loved it) jeopardized it with new ideas that unfortunately didn't translate well into the franchise.
I wish the title after Jamboree brings back a separate mode that has the car gimmick in it, many loved it and since it innovated the series….why kill it off?
@ShyGuyKart Exactly! And if they do, I want them to have this: after every turn, have a normal minigame, with special minigames being activated with certain spaces or circumstances in the game (if it works somehow)!
nice list!! here's my personal one: 6. dk's treetop temple (it's pretty bland to me) 5. king boo's haunted hideaway (always irritates me) 4. bowser's warped orbit (fun to steal stars, not my favorite though) 4. goomba's booty boardwalk (the space towards the end is annoying but i always found it a fun map despite that) 2. shy guy's perplex express (i like the train mechanic, hate to loop around the top) 1. koopa's tycoon town (let's be honest, it's not much of a competition)
Personal rankings from worst to best 6. DK's Treetop Temple. The most traditional Mario Party board but it honestly hurts it due to how different and unique other boards are (I also don't like jungle aesthetics much) 5. Bowsers Warped Orbit. Not a fan of how the path diverging works but the star steal gimmick can be fun 4. Goombas Booty Boardwalk. Linear, a little dull with what's going on in the background but really does emphasise planning for the long term and the music helps it. 3. King Boos Haunted Hideaway. I really like the eerie feeling of not knowing what's going to happen (Really fitting for the boards theme) randomness factor can go either way depending on your mood though. 2. Koopas Tycoon Town. Yes, I do like the board but I just prefer the next one 1. Shy Guys Perplex Express. I love the train idea, makes good use of event spaces to change the game and looping around instead of going back to the start makes it a more interesting type of linear.
Opinion: 6. DK. Way too basic.I don’t like random star location. 5. Shy guys. A lot of Awful things can happen on green spaces 4. Boo. My first MP8 board ever. I did said I didn’t like random star but it’s boo themed. It’s also interesting when the board changes 3. Bowser. Literal star wars. You don’t find stars, you steal them from others Put a 3 stars handicap on every player to make the board more fun 2. Goomba. A really long way but the star is free. Maybe it’s my bigger bias towards Goombas but I love this board’s mechanic. Painful but simple 1. Koopa. We can all agree on this one. This is where money play a bigger role when it cames to stars
My personal ranking: 5 - Boo’s Haunted Hideaway: It’s gimmick is its greatest downfall. It’s too unpredictable which leaves a little too much up to luck. I don’t think it’s a bad board, but just the least good of the bunch. I prefer to play this one on duel mode. 4 - Goomba’s Booty Boardwalk: It’s a straight line. Though to be fair there are lots of shortcuts. It may seem lame at first, but it does bring something fresh to the table by being essentially a mad dash to get to the end as many times as possible. 3 - DK’s Treetop Temple: a solid board with many branching paths and obstacles. Nothing bad to say about it really. 2 - Shyguy’s Perplex Express: I adore the theming and always was perplexed by kamek’s gimmick. Depending on if a Bowser or DK space has been landed on, you’ll want to speed up or slow down as much as possible. I wish my copy of the game was one where Kamek says "spastic". 1 - Koopa’s Tycoon Town: One of the most creative Mario Party boards period. The amount of creativity this one brings to the table is insurmountable. Furthermore, the play style is very fun and the board contains various branching paths. And finally, Bowser’s Warped Orbit. Gonna be honest, for all the time I sunk into this game, I only ever played this once after unlocking it on a friend’s Wii console, so I didn’t rank it. But if I did, I think I would place it between Goombas Booty Boardwalk and DKs Treeptop Temple.
i want to like KBHH (he’s the best mario character) but his haunted hide away is 100% luck based. you could do a 50 turn game and get a dozen stars or do a 20 turn game and get none
My order: 6. Bowser's Warped Orbid (idk how anybody finds this board even playable) 5. DK's Treetop Temple (forgettable imo but not bad) 4. King Boo's Haunted Hideaway (super fun board when playing with people who aren't as knowledgeable about Mario Party bc it is has a lot of chance to it) 3. Goomba's Booty Boardwalk (fun board with unique mechanics involving the dolphins. The lucky space is a little op tho) 2. Shy Guy's perplex express (similar to shy guy's booty boardwalk with the switch cars mechanic) 1. Koopa's Tycoon Town (just objectively the best)
my mp8 boards are 6. bowsers warped orbit, not my style, 5. goomba’s booty boardwalk, the ? space at the end is a huge 🖕🏻 4. king boos haunted hideaway, RNG 3. dk tree top temple 2. shyguy perplex express 1. Koopa tycoon town. enough said
You keep saying "bought" instead of "brought." My ranking is as follows: #6: King Boo's Haunted Hideaway-In general, you should know that I mostly played the game toward the end of elementary school (about 2011-2012) and then when our Wii was not plugged in, I took a break from it until I hooked it back up in early 2021 (I was doing other things intermediately), so much of my attitude about the game is still the same as it was when I was ten or eleven. I did not care for King Boo's Haunted Hideaway's invisibility gimmick or the fact that if players are warped back to the entrance, be it through one of King Boo's dens or a pitfall, then they cannot complete their turns, which only happens otherwise with Duelo Candy (which similarly bothered me). Perhaps the best thing about it is that Stars only cost ten coins; even Hudson Soft must have realized that any more than that would render the board a hassle. #5: Bowser's Warped Orbit-This may also be a case of it being too different from the others for my liking. I cannot remember exactly what I did not like about it, but it may have been that it forces players down one path in a fork in the road instead of allowing for options as the others do. It is thus also one of the more luck-based boards. I may have also dreaded the Superstar Showdown minigame afterward (I almost always played Star Battle) because even for advanced players, it is difficult. (Speaking of minigames, if you ever want to rate all of the "Mario Party 8" minigames and "Flip the Chimp" is not rock-bottom, then you are doing it wrong. "Flip the Chimp" is the one minigame that always gave me a hard time, no exceptions.) #4: Goomba's Booty Boardwalk-I did have to think about these in the middle. This one is very linear, but that is the least of my qualms with it. It also has only one Coin Block (not counting Goomba) and is the only board without any Candy stores in Star Battle. Even in Battle Royale or Tag Battle, it leaves a lot to be desired because Goomba gives Stars for free simply for being reached. Would it have been too much to have him charge twenty coins or something? (In Star Battle [and Duel Battle?], he charges FIFTY coins, and if the player attains that amount after hitting the Coin Block, then he still does not give the Star, but the player only needs one Star to win.) #3: Koopa's Tycoon Town-I see the appeal, but I wish that there were more than just three Hotels in Star Battle. That may have been to account for the fewer players because it does have five in Battle Royale and Tag Battle, plus the victory threshold is only four Stars. Nevertheless, I might have rated it higher with more Hotels. #2: DK's Treetop Temple-I wonder why this one is so underrated. Could it be that Donkey Kong rarely figures into it, only appearing at the DK Barrel Cannon and on, well, DK Spaces? He does not even give the Stars; they just float over one of five random spaces. Nevertheless, it is a great introduction to the game, with no gimmick too crazy or obnoxious. I also like that Bowser says something different on Bowser Spaces depending on the character landing on them; does that happen in the other boards? If so, then I cannot remember. #1: Shy Guy's Perplex Express-This might be my favorite simply because it symbolizes triumphing over King Boo's Haunted Hideaway. It is much more relaxing and, through the Magikoopa magic that turns the train spastic (or erratic in the UK, which regards "spastic" as a slur) and makes this ticket tragic or "[makes] this all a little more interesting" in later North American releases, probably for the same reason, which caused the game to be recalled in the UK, represents a compromise between King Boo's Haunted Hideaway's variable board and the other boards' visible ones. (Technically Bowser's Warped Orbit also has a variable board, but only in the sense of inverted direction.)
For me: 1. King boos haunted hideaway. A masterpiece. It’s a Mario party roguuelike, and there is strategy, because you have to actually deduct where he is! 2. Bowsers warped orbit. Best star stealing board because you can choose when you want to use the candy’s. 3. Koopas tycoon town. Better than windmivllvile. 4. Shy guys perplex express. This board should have been like Mario’s rainbow castle or castaway bay, where bowser and DK switch places all the time. Instead, it’s kinda mid 5. DK’s treetop temple. It’s basic, but good. 6. Goombas booty boardwalk. Too linear.
You’re the first person that I ever saw who correctly ranks King boos haunted hideaway as the best board in Mario party 8. It’s literally a new board every time you get a star, so I think the replay-ability makes it the best board in the series. (Also release the bogus!)
King Boo's Haunted Hideaway is always a board I play in any playing session because of the soundtrack, the replay-ability, and the theme it is definitely top tier in my opinion
@@SkittyDangerzneUsually the music that plays during ghost house levels in Mario games suck because they are slow, repetitive and without much instrumental variety, however this board avoids that problem through experimenting with bass and a cool beat, leading to a great song, which is a theme with Mario party 8’s boards
Here’s my personal rankings and why: 6. King Boo’s - I’ve just never been much of a fan of this board. I understand that the concept of the board layout changing which is neat, but it’s a bit too frustrating for me. 5. Bowser’s - I don’t really play this one often. No particular reason why, I’m just kinda eh on this one. 4. Goomba’s - Some days I love it and some days I don’t care for it. Not much else to say. 3. DK’s - I think this is a good classic mp styled board and has a lot going for it. 2. Shy Guy’s - There’s just so much happening but I really like it. Most happening spaces are different from the ones that move train carts to the two with the air vent to the ones on top of the train that give you free money, etc. This board is like Goomba’s but done right. 1. Koopa’s - I completely agree with you on ranking this one where you did. This is the board I go back and play the most because of how much I love the hotel star system. This game is really part of my childhood who’s is why I have a slight bias to it. Definitely underrated
