Since a lot of people seem to be watching this video, I'd like to give a quick shoutout to my good mate FMP346. Recently worked on a video with him and I'm sure he'd appreciate a sub or two so check out his channel if you're interested: ru-vid.com/show-UCj4QI1y3WYqRvGtCyj2tQrw Thanks for watching and have a happy new year!
Courtessn of a Nation was so perfect and brought so much world building near the end, I was really satisfied. Plus the introduction of Oboro, Isaburo's return and the emotional ending just hit different
I just finished this arc and gotta say it was fairly good, but on the list(even though I still have 100ish episodes to go) I would put it below for eg. Yoshiwara. The thing with this is that it introduced Oboro and Sadasada in such a lousy way to me. The introduction of Mimawarigumi was better in Thorny, and then they did well here, so to say, they had a softer introduction. Oboro just appears out of nowhere and blows up, Sadasada too. And compare them with eg. Kaguras family members who appear in a very well built up way, these two just seem so off. I feel like Oboro could have had an episode or two with just showing who he is outside of this arc...Other than that it was pretty fine but some other arcs appear better.
@@giovannisecolari5659 Well this might be long xD. So I'm just saying my opinions on their introductions, first Oboro. He is introduced in the scene where he attacks, and then when Gin sees him, he has this flashback. When I saw Oboros face, and then the flashback, I was like "Wow he's cool. Wait, am I supposed to know him from somewhere? I'm not?" (except the op lol) It was kinda weird to me the way that flashback funcioned, like, Gin sees him and he remembers immediately, he knows him, knows very well. And then I ask, well, if he is carved so well into his memory, why isn't he foreshadowed somewhere? He just blows up into the fight. I'm comparing it to Kaguras family or Mimawarigumi for these foreshadowing reasons. Example, in Thorny, first we meet Tetsu, and Tetsu is kinda problematic, so Tetsu has this one brother. Hm, who could his brother be? And then in the traffic accident, the Mimawarigumi appear. And we see, oh, so Isaburo is Tetsus brother. Or example of a whole buildup for Kamui: Kagura never mentions him as far as I remember, but then her father comes all the way in ep 40ish, and he says, my family is like this and this, I have this son, and he did this to me. And we then see, oh, so Kaguras brother seems threathening. And then a 100 eps later, he appears and immediately actualy does something dangerous for other characters, and we knew he would. He isn't a confusing presence that the characters remember really well from their past, but we the viewers have no idea about. Yes, a surprising introduction of a character can be great, but this one just put me a little off for I guess these reasons. And then Sadasada is foreshadowed, but as a figure and not that directly. For him I'm not really sure if I dislike him because he is a really well written asshole of a character, or if he is actually poorly written lmao. I have mixed feelings for that but anyway, these are just some slight problems I had here, a great arc overall still.
I really love your ranking! It also shows how diverse Gintama Arcs are because other anime usually has a definite best arc, but for Gintama, different people have their own best serious and comedy arc I love Owee and Monkey Hunter arc so much as well
I mostly agree with this but I was actually a pretty big fan of the Renho arc for some reason lol. I like how the twist final scene kind of completely destroys all of the potential emotional repercussions
The ryugujo arc is one of my favourites because of Otohime. Her villian origin story isn't "I was bullied once so now I'm bitter and everyone should suffer" but her motive for making the world suffer was actually something beautiful that was corrupted over time. I will never not cry when she turns around smiling, having learnt the meaning of true beauty.
Solid list overall especially near the top, main one I did like quite a bit more is the Character Poll arc which I found consistently funny and creative to the end but other than that good video and list!
Im surprised Ryugujo arc was that low. Personally I rank it mid to high because of both its starting and ending points. Maybe it's also because I was a bit familiar with the Urashima Taro japanese tale, and seeing it from the perspective of the princess I actually managed to sympathize with the main villain. Urashima Taro and the tale of Princess Kaguya are pretty significant to me, so to find a different interpretation of what the main character left behind struck a heavy chord. I guess Gintama also takes into account references to actually make the jokes significant. Not bad by a long shot but it's something to be noted.
A completely worth watching, I really love how you put that amount of effort into this videos sharing your love for Gintama, thanks a lot, Happy new year everyone🤗
Fantastic video! I was saving this for a good day since it was so long. I'm glad you differentiated the serious an comedy arcs too! 58:12 This movie song was by Spyair! The Benizakura movie song was Does! wow i used a lot of exclamation marks...
I appreciate the effort, and it is interesting to see what others enjoy. I do think trying to rank them is a bad goal to begin with since each one is trying to do something very different from each other. Some of them are slowed down as part of the joke, some of them are aiming at other things. Not everything will appeal to everyone, and that's fine. However, taking any one of them, or any of the amazing one episode stories, would do a lot of damage to Gintama as a whole. Honestly, there are individual episodes that are... removable. Somewhere in the 20ish episodes total that could potentially be removed to "cut the fat" a bit. But you have to be judicial (and mostly cut out the anime-only fillers, though several of those are also Incredible. So it takes caution.) Past that, Nothing would work without all these parts there. All these characters and stories entwine through the series and allow that ending to be as explosive and incredible as it is. To rank them is to do the same disservice that the character poll arc was trying to point out. That by ranking enjoyment you are paving over the fact that the shining parts can only shine with the rest of the series there. You need the dirt to grow the flowers. If you wanted to fairly rank them, you'd have to break down what each arc is trying to do, and then judge the ones that are doing the same things. Character building, Plot progression, Plot Payoff, Character introductions, and so on. There are so many categories though, in Gintama, that you'd almost have 60 categories anyway, with a lot of overlapping stories. It's just an impossible task. (And honestly, while ranking artistic pursuits is popular, I think it's a bad idea in general. You can sort of do large categories, there are clear good and bad shows, but beyond some form of vague ranking there isn't much point.)
Kabukicho Four Devas arc will always be the best for me. Youll get ; raging Gintoki, the townfolk unite, the wholesome ending, arc enemy that is as strong as Gintoki, Shinpachi fight scene, sick Opening theme song.
Great video! It's Unfortunate that the subject matter is not nearly popular enough in the west, hope you get the recognition you deserve soon. Thank you for being one of the few people on this platform brave enough to talk about peak.
Thank you for the effort on this video, dividing them on comedy and serious is amazing, there is not a lot of people who talk about Gintama 😭. FS arc is also my favorite, because is the payoff of 300 episodes of character interactions, and a very personal one: Zura comeback in serious arcs.
Loved this video!!! Gintama changed my entire life by giving me the motivation needed to lose weight and overall grow as a person by dropping bad habits. So great to see the content even after the show has concluded!
God knows how disappointed I AM in myself not finding the perfect way to comment on such a spectacular videos 😊 keep up the good work. I wish you all good success 🥳🤩😍🥰 Of course there are things we may disagree on (duh, it's a matter of taste) nonetheless, I really appreciate what you have done, and I'm looking forward for your new updates. Ps: my favorite serious arc is Farwell Shinsegumi and my favorite comedy arc is (I can't thing of only one 😅) + my favorite episode is 259 + my favorite stand alone episode is (serious 188)(comedy 217)
For me gintama the finale was just perfect , it concluded the story perfectly, while capturing and portraying the very soul of gintama. Made everything that led of to it much more powerful and meaningful.
Nice video and interesting rankings. Monkey hunter is one of my least fav Gintama comedy arc so it was really refreshing to see someone ranking it higher
Such a good show. Im on ep 334. Was not expecting it to be so good. The comedy is great but the serious arcs are emotional as fuck and are very well written. Its the best of both worlds
one thing i like abut gintama is how short and sweet the fight scenes are. in a lot of Shonen anime you can get fight scenes that go for 3 episodes on their own just the same 2 characters going back and forward. but in gintama it gets in gives you an amazing action scene and gets out leaving you wanting more instead of wishing for it to be over. Note. this isn't to say that the longer fight scenes are inherently bad or anything. they have the place and reasons and when done well can be whole arc of themselves, i just personally enjoy when the action comes in does its job of being badass or emotional and than leaving you and the characters with the consequences.
16:19 "tama quest arc is one of the most bizarre ridiculous random arc in all of gintama" I remember that it felt pretty normal relative to other gintama arcs but I was drunk when I watched it iirc
I'm hoping the bentendo wuu two episodes counts as a arc. It was so funny Edit: also the exacaliber arc was the worst Mainly because I wanted to see sougo fight gintoki. Ever since that roof scene when kondo say don't bother, he's on a completely different level
Final Movie is Silver Soul Aftermath arc. It starts from Timeskip (ep 362, chapter 669 in manga). My top 5 serious arcs maybe : 1. Silver Soul Aftermath 2. Shogun Assassination 3. Farewell Shinsengumi 4. Rakuyou Decisive Battle 5. Four Devas For comedy i love scandal arc, dekobokko, soul switch, feigned illness and kabukichou stray cat arc
Dekkobokko arc correction: Kagura isnt a Jojo reference, she is Xiahou Dun, a warrior from ancient chinese history. The joke of kagura eating her "Thing" alludes to this, since Xiahou Dun historically ate his own eye during a siege against the mighty warrior without equal, Lu Bu. Btw shout out, play Dynasty Warriors or the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, he's a playable character.
Gintama The Final wasn’t a very good adaptation of the finale, considering they cut out a lot of scenes and disregard some characters’ motivations. The manga version is vastly superior.
My thing with Gintama jokes that go too long is that they go through a cycle of stopping being funny, and then keep going so much more that they become funny again just due to them being so ridiculously repeated. Case in point the Hard Boiled and Jugem Jugem Shit-Tossing of Shin-chan’s Two-Day-Old Underwear of Shinpachi’s Life Balmung Fezalion Issac Schneider 1/3 Pure Love 2/3 Hangnail Anxiety Betrayal Knows My Name Or Does It Really Ignore Calls Squid Dogfish Halibut Trout-Cod Dogfish... This Is A Different Dogfish, I’m Talking About The Dogfish Shark Kaluga Angler Ray Yuuteimiyaoukimukou Pepepepepepepepepepepepe Runny Diarrhea.
Honestly I think the four devas arc is the most overrated arc in gintama ive been really dissapointed after gintoki and jirocho didnt have a final fight and how not even the shinsengumi or zura showed up and the slow animation in the middle of the arc. I thought its gonna one of the best arcs after that gintoki ragr scene but ive been let down
