No disrespect to Super Mario 64. But I enjoyed Paper Mario 64 way more and it is my #1 favorite Mario game on the N64 and one of my favorite Mario games period. The game holds up remarkably well and even though the sequel might be better, I can go back and play the original no problem as the gameplay, the world settings, characters, writing, atmosphere and even the music are all really solid. Super Mario 64 can be fun at times. But it can also has quite of number of obnoxious, repetitive and annoying parts of the design moments. Especially towards the bottom and top parts of Peach's Castle. Paper Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time. Along with it's sequel.

Remember when i was a kid, around 4-5 years old. I was in the hospital and had to stay there for days. They had a PS1 and the only game was the first Rayman. One of the first times playing a video game and i just couldn't figure out how to beat the first stage. Got mad and gave up. But i was stuck in the hospital and had nothing else to do, so picked it up again. Once i beat the stage, i got hooked on it. When i got home, i told my mom that i wish i could still play Rayman. So few days later she bought a N64 with Mario Kart. At first i looked at it and was quite disappointed becouse i wanted to play Rayman for PS1. I didn't want to be ungrateful so i didn't say anything, becouse my mom had just bought it. As soon as i started playing it, i was like "this is way better than Rayman, how is this even possible!?". My mind was just blown, also that you could play up to 4 players. I just couldn't wrap my head around how this even existed. One of the best memories of my childhood! After that i just wanted anytyhing with Mario on it. Soon after got Super Mario 64 and Mario Party 1. Also had some of the best memories with these games! The tracks you played in the background really hit the nostalgia, good ranking!

The only major Mario game I didn't play much of on the N64 was Doctor Mario. My favorite is Paper Mario. It made me fall in love with turn based RPGs.

This was a great and refreshing ranked video. Something I appreciated was that you leaned on the subjective nature of a list like this and shared stories and experiences that you had playing these games. It was also just generally very positive!

Mario Party 3 is definitely better than Mario Party 2 imo. You can carry more than one item at once and discard skeleton keys. It has more content and also has a good Single Player mode unlike the first two Mario Parties. Overall I'd say it's the better package.

Bricks. Great list and video! Paper Mario is my all-time favorite game, so I'd put it at #1, but my list would be pretty similar otherwise. Definitely also in the Mario Party 2 is the GOAT Mario Party camp.

I'm not going to quibble over Mario Tennis being in 9th place. Sounds like you still had some good things to say about it so I'll chalk it up to personal preference. Mario Party 3 over Mario Party 1 is something I can't abide by. There are too many mini-games built around RNG. Yeah, Mario Party 2 had Bowser's Big Blast which was RNG, but it seemed like a good chunk of Mario Party 3's mini-games lean into that and I couldn't stand it. I'd much rather play Mario Party 1.

I actually really love the original Mario Tennis 64 as the best one - I hate the insane power moves in the later games. And while smart minds know that the original Mario Golf is actually back on the NES, I love Mario Golf 64 as well.

This seems about right to me. Also, Mario 64, Paper Mario and Mario Kart 64 are some of the best games ever made full stop. Nintendo's first party on N64 along with Rare was unmatched. SNES, GameCube, Wii and Switch are heavy contenders for better software but something hits different for me about the beginning of 3D. It's like entering a whole new world. Mario 64 was the game equivalent of film having Toy Story, just a masterpiece straight out the gate with unimaginable technological advancement. I worry these days we won't have leaps that feel as wondrous as it felt in the 90s and 00s. There was some reviewer at the time that said 64 was "so far ahead of everything comparisons seem meaningless" and that has always stuck with me. It's still true.

Mario Party 4 was my first Mario Party game and I grew up with that game. The N64 ones feel pretty clunky in comparison but I also had 2 on VC on the Wii growing up and really enjoyed it. I've played a bit of Mario Party 3 but it just feels like a lesser MP4 and MP2 took the first game and improved on it in almost every way, so I would say 2 is my favourite of the N64 games.

I think Super Smash Bros counts as a Mario game, if you're including Mario Kart, Mario Party, and the Mario sports games where Mario is just one of the characters you select to play as, the Smash Bros should totally be included

I personally think the first mario party is still the best of the first three but thats probably nostalgia. But yeah I'd put paper mario at the top. Mario 64 aged a bit more for me than paper did

Mario Golf 64 is legitimately better than the switch one. The one on switch is baby mode. Mario Golf 64 is one of the best games of all time.

The drifting in Mario Kart 64 was actually OP. Better players would drift back and forth rapidly on straight roads and constantly be boosting themselves.

I love Dr. Mario but I'd prob rank it lowest on here just because it's not much different from an old NES game. Either that or Mario Golf because it's not engaging. Mario Tennis is peak so having that lowest was nuts. Mario Kart 64, while I have nostalgic for it, is not super great. The CPUs cheat and teleport and the way that if you're not playing DK or Bowser, you're at a massive disadvantage if you start a race behind someone heavier than you. Just play Diddy Kong Racing or any other MK lol

As great as Super Mario 64 is, Paper Mario is No. 1 and it’s not even close. Paper Mario is one of the top 10 best games of all time along with its direct sequel

Mario Golf is by far the best golf game ever made, period, far better than the Gamecube and Switch versions. And Mario Party 3 is not a good game! MP 1 is FAR better. Bad list, sorry to say.

I love every single Mario game on N64, it's pretty hard to rank then. 9. Mario Party 1 (the weakest in the trilogy, no reason to play it) 8. Dr. Mario (still one of the best in the series) 7. Mario Golf (amazing game, but the GC one is far better) 6. Mario Tennis (this is my favorite, I dislike the gimmick they added on newer versions) 5. Mario Kart 64 (I played a lot when I was kid, but with the exception of Advance and Wii, every game after this was far better) 4. Mario Party 3 3. Paper Mario (this game is amazing, I love it so much, I even prefer to play it than TYD) 2. Mario Party 2 ( the most memorable MP game ever) 1. Super Mario 64. please, just play snes mario kart for longer than you usually do. go through the first couple cups. once you get used to the controls and it clicks it's a way better game than 64. and while the ai is still bullshit on snes the ai on 64 so much worse.

Personally speaking i'd swap mario golf with mario tennis. Otherwise your list is spot on. Hell i'd even argue paper mario being a better game over super mario 64 but thars because i much prefer rpg's over platformers

Totally disagree on Mario Kart 64 aging better than the SNES version. The SNES version RULES - def needs a ROM mod to be able to play 4 player in the SNES game but the control and tracks are awesome. The SNES version has the single best controls of any Mario kart game and the precision and use of drifting has the highest ceiling. Mario Kart 64 has awful graphics, some of the tracks are INCREDIBLY boring (toad's turnpike, rainbow road etc) and the lack of music in 3 and 4 player mode was so annoying. Did have some great memories in 4 player battle mode (only 2 of the stages were any good and we all know it) but my god the actual racing in 64 esp the severe rubber banding which is introduced here is just awful. SNES version all the way

I personally just can't get into paper mario. It's just crap compared to SMRPG or even Mario & Luigi Superstar saga
