Ranking Every Single 5th Generation Monster Hunter Monster 

Honestly every single ranking was fair and the fact that you spent 3 hours just taking about monsters is incredible.

Velkhana’s grown on me after my second playthrough of Iceborne. Awesome detail about it’s theme, every encounter you have with Velkhana keeps building up the music more and more until your final encounter with it where it’s theme is finally complete, this made it one of my favourite themes in the whole series. Edit: YES, FELLOW NAMIELLE FAN!!!

Imagine if Alatreon and Amatsu had variations like Fatalis. Velkhana needs a variation too. Kinda sad we didn’t get Risen Velkhana.

I actually quite like kulu he’s such a charming monster, and I don’t mind his fight too but I can see why people don’t think much of him.

Glad to see I’m not the only one who likes Safi’Jiiva and likes his design. Definitely in contention for my Second Favorite monster with Guanzorumu and Primordial Malzeno (can’t decide which one i like more between the three of them)

This is the best MH tier list I’ve watched ever. Great job man, even if I didn’t agree with every pick you had (which weren’t a lot, you nailed most of these picks) you explained your reasoning so well I couldn’t help but think, “huh, that’s a pretty good point.” Really well done.

I used to believe that Nergigante didn’t do much for me, I just didn’t get it or found him a tad bland. Now I think he’s an absolute master class of monster design and is well worth his praise. Still not my favorite fifth gen flagship, Malzeno is, but the passage of time really lets you understand that every monster has its fans for good reason. Cheers CR.

Great tier list and content Volcanic! So I wrote a lot of notes as this video went on. I don’t expect anyone to read it and understand cus it’s a lot. Here are my thoughts on your world portion of the video! I’m at work so I gotta watch the rest later! Great Girros - Yeah paralysis is oppressive but I think it deserves more credit for actually manipulating the smaller monsters effectively making them a threat if they become too numerous and it was prominent against other monsters too! Legiana - I am bias. So I’m gonna try not to write too much… but Legiana was amazing to me and reminded me of my childhood watching Avatar for the first time. Sound design too is on 20. Very cool weapons and armor. Ecology wise I think he does exactly what he needs to do, nothing more or less. We also have SO many flying wyverns and we don’t have too many that are super unique in their dichotomy. Love Legiana even the fight too. GOAT Flying Wyvern to me. Excellent addition at worst for me. Odogaron - Great monster. Clifford is amazing in every way. Not much else to say…subspecies is disappointing to me though. Also him venturing into the highlands is a great touch that brings it into contact with Legiana. Dodogama - Poo Poo to me. I think it’s overloved 😂 and I never capture them. Zorah - Sadly….yeah I agree. Vaal Hazak - Kinda feel like he didn’t get enough credit I think he deserves top of the line. Yeah the effluvium is annoying but I think it’s justified and it’s not impossible to deal with. Fight wise I don’t think he’s too bad, he’s sluggish but fun imo and I think he could use a buff or a different mode when the effluvium is gone. But I get why his damage is a tad lower for balance purposes and I don’t think you should deduct points from him for that especially with counter builds since that’s the purpose of MH too. He’s a really unique and standout elder dragon! His music too….his music is in my opinion one of the best tracks to come out of mh. Nergigante - Amazing monster imo. Overhated but it works even better for Nerg because he’s brute strength and a balance check for the ecosystem. Bazelgeuese - Used to have the guy but I eventually loved him. I used to kill him on quests where he wasn’t a target because he made me rage but he’s just too good to hate. Surprise monster, one of the best themes ever and everything is great! Seething is great too. Xeno’jiiva - Great monster wise only cus of what happens later. But I love that it’s a baby and I can see that in its fight. Excellent tier for me. The music grew on me too! Armor and weapons are GREAT though. Kulve Taroth - Fight could be tedious but Master Rank and AT made it much much better! I rememeber when a friend of mine was fighting it for the first time and he was actually falling asleep! But when we entered the last state he FULLY WOKE UP and was loving it and ever since my friend and I love the monster. I love the music too! If they made it quicker to get to the final prt and altered the pace it would be a GOAT tier monster imo. Excellent addition for me. Beotodus - Good monster and good piscine wyvern imo. Love its design but could use more work and it has great potential! Solid tier. Banbaro - Aight tier for me. I love the design but he’s really annoying after a while and I cannot justify him being that degree if a roamer. He’s also an elk like you said and I think he should’ve stayed in the Hoarfrost. I do however think him not being a quadruped hurts his design a lot. May be a hot take but I was disappointed when he was in the trailer then BAM biped theropod. We don’t have enough strictly mammalian herbivorous monsters and that’s something I want more of. Coral Pukei - Probably one of the best subspecies ever made. It just suits it’s environment perfectly and its coloration is beautiful. Excellent monster. Nightshade - Underrated. Excellent addition. Its manipulation of sleep is so good!!!! More monsters should manipulate statuses like this and its coloration is great!!! The eyes definitely help it survive because it probably deters predators similarly to how tiger and deer have spots on the back of their ears. Acidic Glavenus - Hot take but I like Acidic more than regular Glavenus. Even GU Glavenus. Sue me 😂 but the pacing and mechanic just did it for me. It is Glavenus but better for me. I don’t think subspecies have to keep up, I think they should be able to branch off and be their own and I think Acidic does that perfectly. Shrieking - Not sure why… but it’s a GOAT tier monster for me 😂 Fulgur - GOAT/Excellent tier. Should’ve only been in Hoarfrost and Elders Recess at most, that’s it. Visually stunning and I love it for him!!! I understand why him being everywhere hurts him though. Ebony - Excellent and solid at worst, but aside from armor and visuals he’s just okay. He doesn’t feel different enough imo. Velkhana - I think is one of the best basic tier Elder Dragons. I love everything about it. Not sure what to say other than that. I love the new elder dragons more than I do the older OGs tbh. They feel like they do elements better to me not to discredit new Kushala, Chamy and Teo! I don’t think it can run through the ice walls though, I remember Velkhana running around in arcs a lot but I could be very wrong. Namielle - What a damn good monster. Keeping the electric element a surprise was a great decision!!! James Bond type music but a little repetitive, but still great! Visually great, animations are on point it’s the Splatoon dragon! The water manipulation is great and you can eliminate the water it creates on the ground too! Shara - What a great monster! GOAT tier to me. Music is amazing. My same friend that fell asleep was disappointed in the first phase “I DIDNT PAY $60 FOR DWAYNE!?” But as soon as the last phase happened it was a complete shift in atmosphere. And the eyes….creepy. Love the armor and weapon design too!!! It’s abilities are freaking awesome as well. Scarred Garuga - Excellent tier for me. Yian Garuga is my favorite bird wyvern so fighting Scarred was great except it also wasn’t lol. He was my kryptonite and I’m the person in my friend group that is into speedrunning and killing things with ease as quickly as possible. But Scarred Yian Garuga was the monster I could get down like that. It was my rival. Ruiner - same tier as regular Nergigante. He’s just better imo if not the same. The fight itself is better to me though and I would enjoy slugging it out with him. Safi’jiiva- I love Safi’jiiva. I could talk all day about it but the music, design and lore is awesome to me. I love how it attacks multiple people in a way that uses the least amount of energy but decides when it’s necessary to use its energy based powers. Then its coloration and the glowing parts as it heals is always super super cool.

Now I kinda wanna see a tier list of all the remade Monsters in the 5th gen and the differences in your opinion of them from World/IB to Rise/SB (like Diablos and Rathalos would have an icon for each game) purely because this massive video was so enjoyable to listen to

Banbaro is one of my favourite monsters of all time, the idea of a dinossaur-esque moose that uses the terrain as a weapon against the hunter is such an unique idea. I would like if they put him as some sort of protector of the territory he lives in and so goes on to beat monsters that can destroy it (like Deviljho)

Odogaron is great in terms of his flashy fight, armor, and ecology. But the fight isn't dangerous because jumps around to much missing many of his own attacks and it's a crime he didn't get brought back into Rise.

To be far to jyura, hes only really hated because 1. He looks like a brown lavasioth, and 2. Rumor had it that he was our consolation prize because lagi was supposed to be in world but got pulled near the end because they couldnt fix his supposed neck issue

My top 10 fav gen 5 monsters: 10. Safi'jiiva 9. Banbaro 8. Tetranadon 7. Magma Almudron 6. Espinas (technically fifth gen) 5. Odogaron 4. Bishaten 3. Primordial Malzeno 2. Nergigante 1. Namielle Namielle is just something super special to me, everything about it fits my tastes to perfection. Absolute best monster in the franchise imo.

Your tier list is surprisingly similar to mine like Primordial is my favorite as well But I would have Nergigante a little closer to the top for and so on.

I suppose someone typed it already but yes, Espinas's subspecies already had "specializations" it's Subspecies used to do nukes (heck in Hardcore, it could shoot it's nuke in the sky, making fire rain down the area) it's Rare species used to create pools of fire and poison on the ground, making approach harder. Also both subspecies had a turf war/bond attack (yes, they invented that) both Espinas would look at each others, and charge each others, and the headbutt's impact would cause immense damage to the arena

Big agree on most everything here, with only a couple that I would move. I think the biggest position change for me would be Shrieking. Its an *easy* Excellent for me. I love fighting it so much

Part of me includes equipment in my rankings (look and versatility) world monsters mostly handicap themselves with their lackluster weapon designs, but their armor is very nice!

i love kula, all time favorite monster for 1 reason. pity. i remember my buddy and i were doing a quest where we were foghting kula, tzi tzi, and great girros, and that fucking tzi tzi, every single opprotunity it had, flashed kula and blinded him over and over. we made it our mission to keep kula alive and end the bullying. we ended up carting twice because we kept laughing so hard that i fell out of my chair and he couldn't see properly because of the tears he cried from laughter. god i miss those days.

I agree with you on the Magnamalo and Scorned take!! Regular Magnamalo got every new move that scorned got with the exception of like 2 new moves....they should have given Scorned more of regular magnamalo's moves and made it so that Scorned goes into that new phase a lot sooner than when he's almost dying...sometimes you can completely bypass that whole phase and kill him off before he goes into it 😂😂😂

I'm watching this video again because I wanted something to listen to while I work, and I just gotta say this is one of my favorite Monster Hunter channels. It's generally devoid of the really irritating bias that other channels have, both old and new bias, as both are annoying to me as someone who ranks 4 Ultimate and Sunbreak (so one kinda old, one new) as my favorite MH games. Thanks for being a guy that just loves talking about Monster Hunter.

I've always seen Nergigante as like a dragon personification of Wolverine from X-Men so I kinda just saw Ruiner getting the metal spikes as his version of getting adamantium though in this case a bio metal

I originally bought monster hunter world when I saw anjnath on the box art because I was just off the heels of Horizon zero dawn and saw the chance to beat up giant enemies again little did I know how much it would change me and my gaming preferences forever.

Your take on odogaron taking crack and ebony taking crack again to see if it stacks gave me life.

One of my finest achievements as a Sword and Shield main was getting to the point with my gear skills that I could easily block Nergigante’s Ultimate Spike Assault.

Tobi is perhaps my favorite non-elder dragon monster. I LOVE fighting him in both World and Rise. Elder dragons i love are Velkhana and Vaal Hazak

Okay, you gotta at least give this to Dodo, bro is one of the chillest motherfuckers in MH, like, if he were real, you could walk up to him and just sit there and pet him for like . . . three hours straight, and he'd tolerate you the entire time, but the moment something even remotely threatening pops up, bro goes sicko mode. He is one of the few monsters that will actively attack an Elder dragon, brother does not care who you are, you robbed the wrong house fool. Watching him waddle up to Kushala, absolutely blast him, and immediately fuck off is amazing. This point also applies to Odogaron, he's one of the only non-invader tier monsters that has a turf war with an Elder Dragon.

The thing about Banburo or however you spell it is it seems like the kinda monster that’s been here since Gen 2 or 3. Sometimes new monsters are very distinct and stand out a bit too much from the roster but Banburo blends so perfectly into it

I agree on almost everything. The only issue for me are the Base World’s mid/low tier monsters (the ones that should create a sense of variety). For me the fact is that 80% of them seems like they copy-pasted the same skeleton in different locales. So, except for some differences in mechanics, seem subspecies of each other like: Uragaan-Radobaan, Kulu-TziTzi, G-Jagras-Dodogama, Juratodus-Lavasioth; and this creates a great lack of variety in the base game. It also bothers me that these mediocre monsters are put in every game released next: Kulu-Ya-Ku in Stories 2, Now, and Rise (and I think:what’s so interesting in a chiken that digs up rocks???) (there are also other beasts like Anjanath, pukei and others; but at least those are good and CREATIVE monsters). Oh, sorry for the outburst, great video man❤⚔️❤ ps: sorry for the grammatical errors, I’m not so good in English 😅

Funny enough, I have about 400hrs in my current World/IB playthrough. I've seen the armor skill that reduces time for Defense Down, but I never knew what could actually inflict the status until now.

Loved the video. Changed my opinion on namielle. I was literally trying to decode if I loved it or thought it sucked lol

Kulve Taroth is my personal favorite. Her Master Rank armor is fantastic for Transmog. Her music is my favorite in the series, especially the Final Phase. Long Live the Queen!

Pretty solid tier list, nothing really out of place. Although I would put crimson glow val in GOAT tier, but Im bias, hes really cool.

Great list and I’m glad to finally see someone respect Namielle as they deserve. One criticism I have is that I feel the Apex monsters were criticised based on monsters that came before them, I’m aware you used this as backing for monsters like Aknosom and Pukeipukei(?) to push them up. Obviously not everyone started in 5th gen and even those who did will probably have played some of the earlier iterations. But I really enjoyed the apex’s as fights while also being disappointed when I saw their origin. But personally I don’t think it’s entirely fair to completely rate them not on themselves but on a comparison to monsters not even in 5th gen. Obviously this is an opinion and if you ever see this I would love if you could explain your side on it. No hate btw just a disagreement.

Psyched to see my boy coral pukei and goss harag at the top but I think the placement of the apexes is a little strange, they're unoriginal since they're just the deviants from generations but because they're just the deviants they're still very good fights, even with a few things taken out at times. The biggest thing that sticks out for me though is apex rathalos, dreadking looked cool but was notoriously one of the most hated fights in gen because he just flew in the air all day while moving around frequently basically making it so either you had to use a ranged weapon to fight him or just flashbomb/stun him to death so you just dont have to fight him. Apex rathalos takes the improvements from world's silver rath and rises new rath and adds the crazy fireballs from dreadking but focuses specially on those fireballs while keeping him on the ground most of the time, making what was once an extremely irritating fight into an amazing one, feels a little bad to ignore the massive glow up and rank him so low because he's missing one attack from dreadking yknow :/

I guess these are only monsters introduced in 5th Gen? I was really curious to hear where monsters like Lavasioth, Barroth, the Diabloses(?), Teostra + Lunastra + Kushala, the Rath twin variants etc would have fit in since I'm still finishing World and haven't made it to Rise at all yet lol.

I’d say Safi is the real culmination of everything in World. It’s the adult form of the final boss in base game, it uses mechanics from both Behemoth and Kulve and the theme is the actual best. A lot of time went into him and it really shows. Fatalis is a very good way to close out World but when it comes to everything World has accomplished, Safi is the finale in my eyes. Truly just the goat

Ruiner nergi should've just been a one-off hard boss fight like raging bracky was, rather than a master rank replacement. It'd make it feel more special and rare

I do think a downside of Namille is that it just kinda shows up in the story for one fight, you kill it and that's it. It has some good lead up and introduction, but somehow the newly discovered elder dragon is just kinda brushed under the rug afterward

World was my first MH game, and I fell in love with the Tobi-Kadachi the moment I saw it! I was really happy to see it get a variant in Iceborne, but then Capcom kinda forgot it. It wasn't in Rise/Sunbreak or Stories 2. Thankfully regular Tobi has been in every MH game since its inception, so that's a positive. Hopefully Wilds will bring back the Viper as well as a new variant!

When i helped my cousin and our friend through their first time doing iceborn. He saw the namielle armor and he we farmed it so many times cause he liked the armor

Jyuratodus very well is the gateway high rank monster, I'm glad Rise placed him where he is. Even if it's strange to bring new world monsters to the old world.

Jyuratodus is probably so hated because he's the only water monster in base game, so if you needed anything water based, you had to go fight Jyura, and like you said, it's a mainly boring fight. Mainly you're fighting to not get stuck in his mud or to get through the deep water as he flails, but he has some satisfying breaks. If he appeared in more than one area, he could be interesting. Not as annoying as Laviosoth.

Primordial Malzeno. I didn't think it would be possible for Rise to make me love Malzeno any more than I already did. I love the parallels his story has with Dracula from Castlevania (Lords of Shadow). A warrior of light who fought back the devil, but paid the greatest price by losing his soul. One becomes Dracula, this one gets infected with the qurio and becomes a husk of what he used to be. Former heroes becoming the villains. Plus he's similar to Nergigante, where he's one of the top elders not because of some gimmicky element, but simply because he powers through your attacks and beats the shit out of you all the same. He's a "muscle" type elder. lol

Its still funny to me, that many people dont know that pukey is (probably) an owl (didnt watch the list completely but its pretty good)

I’ll admit that most of the rankings are very fair! One of my disagreements would have to fall on risen shaggy. There’s difficult and then there’s BS, his fight is definitely the latter. Extremely fast recovery even when knocked down, aoes after most of not all attacks, an attack that outright condemns you fir not having a skill, and combos that are a bit too fast. Like it feels more like a bullet hell than an actual fight somewhat like primalzeno. This is an issue many late game monsters suffer from in sunbreak; what I refer to as bullet hell syndrome, where instead of a complex move set , every move HAS to have some form of aoe or after shock to it .

Extremely fair list, to be completely honest. Great job! I gave the vid a like the instant you put Coral Pukei-Pukei in GOAT. I absolutely love that goofy mf. Absolutely underrated. Also, I love Viper Tobi but he always wholesale whoops my ass for some reason. Idk if it's just because I'm an IG user but goddamn, dude, he is brutal for me lmao

Greats(Jaggi,Baggi,Wroggi,Izuchi),Tigrex(OG),ordinary Magna,Apex(Master) Rathian,Rathalos,Diablos(earplugs lv5 DON'T WORK) fight could spiral out of control if double teamed playing solo.

Every time I see these my top 3 of all of the newcomers from 5th gen always end up super low on someomenelses list XD Raadoban Jyratodus Almudron Those are off the top of my head my overall top 3 of all the newcomers. However their are only a small handful of monsters from World and Rise I'm truly meh about or dislike. For instance I personally believe that 5th gen created the best elder dragon lineup out of every generation Banbaro was amazing. As a local to Alaska my whole 30 years. Seeing a Moose become a dinosaur hit different. :P Sumo Duck Turtle is the goofiest and most beautiful chunky boi I've ever seen. Speaking of Chunky bois, I unironically love Great Jagras, Dodogama, and their skinny brother Great Girros Anyways ranting now. Yeah the two new mud Monsters and my Tar Tire are my top 3 newcomers.

I loved this video. I agree mostly around Sunbreak stuff. Espinas is one of the Goats, I'm not really a fan of magnamalo, it feels too much like nerg with blast, and I love almudron a lot more. I have a lot of stuff to say about Garangolm vs Lunagaron though. Lunagaron being the first lord from elgado to show up was cool. Hazard Lunagaron has some slams that go outward with rocks to the side, it feel like a rush down monster. I love Lunagaron's weapons with chains keeping them contained. I love his finger stab that does a ton of damage and barely flinches. It gives you immediate agency after a big hit, and usually not noticing how much damage or took or panic the first times facing it. I feel like Garangolm has only 4 attacks, repeated slams, jump fire slam into water slam, jump straight slam and head drag in final face that juggles into DK up smash. I like the new big green monkey but he's easily the weakest lord in my opinion.

My top 3 monsters from 5th gen kulve taroth Anjanath and tetranodon

As a fight, I think Magnamalo is a great Monster. He's the only Monster besides Primordial Malzeno that kept me constantly on my toes. But as a design I have alot of gripes with him. He feels like he belongs in frontier with how many spikes and explosions he has. I wish they would have made him a bull or something cause at least it would have made sense why he has horns but overall he has way too many things going on with him.

I think my only disagreement is Scarred Yian Garuga, that fight is my favorite fight in World. He was so fast and unpredictable and hit like a truck. I think exactly what YG was supposed to be

Overall yes, I agree with most of those ranking, especially the greatests of all time. Though personally I am one of those magna haters. In my case though I ALSO dislike the fight, not just their general look. It's not a hard fight at all, I've hunted them tons, I just hate how there is hardly any second where any part of its body is not moving eratically, it just insists on moving its hitboxes around the entire time and I hate aiming at anything, the tail being the worst offender. It does have really cool armor sets and weapons though. (also, hunting him like 40+ times so my friend would get a single orb reaaaaaaaally didn't help its case, it incidentally made me seriously hate how base Rise did not have any system to substitute the rare item grind like we had in most previous games until sunbreak fixed that) In my greatest of all times though I'd (with a bias) include Banbaro myself. Because back when we were only teased iceborne and we saw the armor sets hunters wore and I saw this Banbaro hunter, I predicted with almost perfect accuracy what kind of monster would be giving it to us, although namely fumbling it only at me thinking we'd get a quadruped instead of a brute. But I predicted the animal it was based on, the type of attacks it would be bringing and namely it's kind of charge attack interactions with rocks and trees. So yeah, I think fondly of it just because it was one of those "totally called it" moments. Also love the joke at the end with the ancient leshen XD.

Seeing Coral Pukei alongside monsters like Nergigante, Malzeno, Gaisma and Safi is so fucking funny. Not sure if i fully agree but i respect the fuck out of that choice lmao.

Velkhana fight is so fun to me especially arc tempered its becoming like a mini game to punish velkhana I main gs Ofc u just can run her down with hbg lol

Thanks for giving me something to listen to at work. It makes the day less boring. Safi's my favorite monster and Zorah can burn in Hell so I can't complain about the list either.

personally, my only big changes would move the mangamalos down to not all that great and ancient down three tiers. personally magnamalo feels more like a pokemon design than a monster hunter design. too many of its attacks feels too magical for a non-elder low-high tiered monster, I think they way over-designed it and for how easy of a fight it was, it just didnt really pay off. ancient leshen just sucks ass, I love actual unavoidable instant kill moves, but the fact that your team is able to stop what their doing to use a special item they remembered to bring just ruins a fun monster. also I appreciate the aknossom love. i like that its yokai inspiration is in aknossom's story between hunters than just making it a parasol with an eye.
