SCOTT I AM SO UPSET THAT YOU COULDNT READ THE NEBRASKA LOGO. They have the BEST slogan, it literally says “Nebraska, honestly, it’s not for everyone” 😂😂😂
I'm noticing a theme here. Most of the older versions were unique and spoke to the distinct culture of their state. The newer versions look like someone sent an offensive email so now all communications have to go through HR.
It's most likely a lot more of a boring reason, The "Old logos" were most likely made before the invention of smartphones. Now, site traffic has to be evaluated through mobile browsing and you need the logos to be accessible and readable at smaller sizes. The marketing/creatives necessary for these state tourism logos had to prioritize readability at smaller scales so it limits the amount of creative assets you can realistically fit in a small space.
I moved out of Florida about a year ago, the instant improvement it gets when you know you won't be there forever is WILD. It really is built for tourism
I've lived here my whole life. Don't move here! Its hot and humid and our main economy is space and tourism. Unless you're old or don't want to deal with snow and instead want to deal with 100 degree heat and high humidity, then don't move here. What many don't realize is that you can't wear a jacket like in the cold. You just have to suck it up and wear short sleeves. To give you a perspective on how it feels, try taking a warm shower and then put your clothes on without drying off. I don't even want to get started on overpopulation...
@@BIGGER_RED it hurts it more to be clicking through and constantly skipping than going to a specific spot in the video (hence part of why RU-vid added chapters to videos). the people that are only watching for their specific state are going to find it and then click off regardless of my comment, I’m just making it easier for them and trying to make it hurt the analytics less.
We drove through Nebraska and it was surprisingly beautiful. So many red trucks we started calling it Nebraska red. I think it’s really Cornhusker red.
i've lived in arkansas for 30 yrs and the vibes range from "liminal space fields of cotton as far as you can see" to "retreat into the forest where the creatures scream from the caves, there may be witches here." and sometimes there's a walmart.
arkansas either feels like the WASP suburb of any metropolitan area or the deep untamed wilderness. i have stories from living here that feel like they were ripped out of rdr2's random encounters
A lot of these are based on the Welcome Signs you see when crossing state borders like PA and WY. Rating those signs would be fun they’re very nostalgic for a lot of people!
Making logos like this is what I studied in school, so watching these videos with your humor and perspective gives me so much joy. Your channels are such a bright spot on the internet.
Same here! I do wish he was a bit more bothered when every single line in a logo has a different width but logos aren’t just designed for designers so I respect it! Edit: I also do think every logo must have a single color variation (being able to emboss or embroider your logo is cool!) and I fear some states often fall victim to Scott only happening upon the flat versions lol
@@averyeml I agreed with him on a lot of stuff. For example, the Iowa "life changing" design was awful in my opinion. Like he said the weird bracket they put in the middle of "life" and "changing" just makes it confusing, and I personally don't like those three fonts right next to each other. I was also just as outraged as him with the ND logo change too. Like, WHY would you use those fonts together and use that much leading between the words. It makes it look cheap. I also liked a lot of the same one's as him (for example the Missouri and Tennesse logos).
As a dad of 2 who is watching this to take a break. When you said making this because the kids are asleep to take a break from life. I felt that in my soul.
Scott I know you want to remain in the unknown for the Virginia logo but I feel like it adds so much to the slogan: Loving vs Virginia was the Supreme Court case where interracial marriage became legal. It’s funny as a slogan because on one hand it’s like “Virginia had the first legalized interracial marriage!!” but there’s also a constant element of “Virginia didn’t want these people to get married to much that it went to the Supreme Court” but tbh being both proud and disappointed in virginias historical accomplishments is what living in Virginia is all about.
The quality of Virginia's slogan is offset somewhat by the fact that in the second logo my mind read it at first as "Virginia is for Losers." No, the heart doesn't look like an S, but it doesn't look much like a V either. It would look MORE like a V if it were just the outline.
@@LittleRedWhine Yeah, like the shape on the Pennsylvania one that he thought looked like a vase. It's the shape of a keystone, being that PA is the keystone state.
I love that the old Illinois one is like ... We know you're only here for Chicago. Just ... Go to the Magnificent Mile and spend all your money while you're there
I remember when they really started prioritizing putting the “love” signs all over VA when I was younger and they had put one in the county I lived in and it made me laugh so hard because the county I lived in had the highest rate of divorce in the state at the time they gave us the sign. It just seemed so ironic
No no, you're thinking about it wrong Love is so prevalent that a monogamous couple just can't satisfy it. They needed to be free to spread the love everywhere
@@mechengr1731 😂😂😂 my dad used to say “Virginia is for lovers but Orange County is for swingers” because he and my mom had such a hard time making friends because everyone their age was like doing the ole devils tango with each others spouses
I’d like to point out in the new logo for New Hampshire they put a little nh in the mountain to even further incorporate it into new hampshire and the design
Not gonna lie that first Louisiana logo font looks like that old "you wouldn't steal a car... Downloading films is a stealing. Piracy is a crime" ad font from the 2000s.
Fun fact: I'm Georgian and the only reason why I knew about the old Georgia logo was because it would be in the onscreen credits of Family Feud episodes
I actually loved the retro Nevada logo. The phonics symbol over the "e", besides giving some visual interest, shows the correct way to pronounce the "e". I hear different pronunciations of the state and I'd assume they feel very strongly about the "correct" way.
As a Michigander, it's so nice driving back into Michigan and seeing the "Welcome to Pure Michigan" sign. This made me realize how few states have their tourism logos as their state welcome signs.
LET'S GO MARYLAND. and you're almost correct, but our restaurant would be selling crab pretzels and crabby Mac jumbo dogs. Nothing beats a good crab pretzel.
Omg I have never been so early to something, hi Scott! Please rank all the state birds! And if you ever do another exposing video on the main channel, expose the toothpaste industry. Who are the 9/10 dentists who recommend?? I need ANSWERS
Arkansas girl here! Everyone in the state is very friendly overall, but very country (at least if you grew up here). The vibe really depends upon the area of the state. There is what is known as “The Bubble”, it is the northwestern side of the state. It is very nice, somewhat progressive and has a great modern/clean/well maintained feel. The rest of the state is pretty much the complete opposite except for a few mini bubbles.
Northwest arkansas is ENGULFED with nature, mk so im driving down the street? NOT ANY FAKE PLANTED TREES 🙌🧎🏼♀️ i been to a town out of northwest arkansas legit if u werent looking for it u wouldnt see the opening to someones house bc theres nature everywhere
Oklahoma's new logo getting snaps just makes my day haha! I'm quite fond of it, being a fellow sucker for good color usage. Glad we managed to do *something* right...
One of your best(!!) videos. I love these chiller, casual videos where it's like we're just a group of buds arguing on the couch. Such a comfortable and funny vibe. You're so naturally funny and passionate rants about trivial opinions are such a key part of the channel(s)! Thanks for suffering through making this for us.
I live in New Zealand. Almost as far from the US as you can get….and I absolutely loved this video. I love logo design and I love your thoughts on these. Any videos like this I will watch immediately.
Georgian here! yes, we love our peaches, but have you ever had a Georgia peach?? they're phenomenal. i left the state for the first time a couple years ago to visit a friend and we bought peaches to snack on. as soon as i took a bite, i was like, "oh no." i can't believe people are surviving on such nasty peaches smh
Watching Scott run such a range of emotions looking through these is so cute. Thanks for powering through! I remember how tired I was when my kids were babies too. Also thanks for not making WA seceed twice, we're really not so bad I promise. 😂
Scott, you have such a talent to describe things and being funny while doing it...I was not 1 second bored and I'm not even from the US... Though, I think I might be colorblind after this video.
I feel like the first Maine one could have been infinitely better if the slogan was "It's gonna be Maine". Imagine the memes. Maybe make NSYNC tour there.
As someone from Indiana, I'm incensed that you think ours is about NASCAR when IndyCar is literally named after us. The Indianapolis 500 is the most prestigious auto race in America. The town the race track is in is literally called Speedway.
as a (SOUTH) Arkansan, the vibe of Arkansas varies pretty greatly throughout different areas. North west Arkansas is currently the most hoping place to be, its developing fast. and it basically feels like the midwest. Central Arkansas is notoriously dangerous. South Arkansas is a lot like the surrounding southern states, the most exciting thing going on is high school football. as you go from north to south, you get Mountains, then flat, then swampy and humid. we also have some silly ass town names hehe Bald Knob, Wiener, Goobertown. very unserious
As someone from North Eastern Arkansas your basically just like so many farm feilds.....HOW DA FREAK ARE WE IN THE WOODS AND MOUNTAINS in less than 10 minuntes lol
SCOTT DONT READ THIS- The "Virginia is for lovers" thing came from a big sign or something that said 'Virginia is for ____ lovers" to imply that whatever you love, you can find it in VA but it just kinda looked like it said Virginia is for lovers" and that wound up sticking instead
When I was a kid I got a CD that was put out by the Tourism Board of Texas. It had games and videos and it was the best. That's when we had the "It's like a whole other country" Great childhood memories.
As someone whose NOT from Akransas, I will say it is absolutely an underrated state. I went in the spring, it was really pretty and my family that moved out there was able to afford a really cute house in the woods. I am from California btw, so it's vastly different from what I'm used to.
Maybe I'm just being selfish, but I'd love to see you do this series with Canadian provinces/territories. It'd be cool to see your takes on their flags/slogans/licenses from an outside perspective
the first idaho logo immediately went into my secede tier and i was SHOOK to see you book a flight there. if it was the shape of idaho instead of a rectangle, i may have just put it in my wont be visiting tier, but the other thing about it that just sickened me is that the 3 features of the logo (the usa map, the rectangle, and the slogan) are all skewed off center in different amounts
4:54 there's basically 3 different vibes: 1. Little Rock 2. Eastern AR 3. NW AR. NW is the chillest imo and exemplifies the title "the natural state" perfectly
PA’s reminds me of ocean spray cranberries logo every time I drive by it Also the old logo has a keystone shape. A keystone is the top part of a arch which is the most crucial architectural piece of it. It’s called the keystone state because it was the place America was founded and also for its historical significance. It’s also on our highway signs. It’s such a smart symbol to use and I love its use. It’s not a vase lol
Had to hop on my laptop from watching this on the TV. Nowhere in Georgia will you find that second logo. The peach is everywhere and it is peak. You will not only book a flight, but buy a vacation home. Nothing tops it. Peak peach
the older Nevada logo kinda looks like they’re trying to tell you to use the right “a” vowel for the middle. which in International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) would be [nɪˈvædə], also written as nə-vădʹə
Im from arkansas, its very peaceful, our capital little rock or hot springs or atleast some of the exciting places are CRAZY i went to a town that had a halloween festival happening, PEOPLE WERE WEARING SOME TERRIFYING STUFF AND THE PATH TO GET THERE WAS SUPER JAGGED AND IF U HAPPENED TO FALL OFF THE THIN TRAIL UR DONE FOR, anyways theres lots of country in the small towns, super peaceful, lots of nature
You missed the hidden message in New Hampshire! The wavey waves are a cursive “n h”!! When I visited I thought it was so cool they snuck that in there!
As a life long Arkansan that’s visited a ton of states. Arkansas is a hidden gym if you like nature and the outdoors. We just keep it real low key and make outsiders think it’s meth and cousin kissing because land and houses are cheap and we want to keep it that way.
This is the first video I've seen of yours (thank you, RU-vid algorithm). I can't stop giggling... So good. I'm happy to be a new subscriber. Cheers, much love 💞😊
