Garou still needs a sequel to this day

I always admired the Fatal Fury Franchise, this Series is where it all started the entirety of SNK Fighting Games.

SF3: Who are you? Garou MOTW: I'm you but better.

Regarding MotW's name, the Dreamcast version was actually localized as Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. The name change only affected the overseas market because in Japan all FF games are actually called Garou Densetsu (lit. _Legend of the Hungry Wolf_ ). I know you know this Shoryu but maybe other viewers don't ;)

These games always felt more fun and felt like they had more energy, more personality, more style than the KOF series honestly. Then again its VERY 90s and I've always loved that aesthetic.

I got into Fatal Fury on the PS2 with Fatal Fury Archives vol.2. I would play Real Bout for days lol.

Just started getting more into fighting games and I gotta say, Real bout Fatal fury 2 is one of my favorites.

I loved the out of Bounds mechanic lol. It adds a strange mechanic to deal with.

RBS and Garou. RBS is the most entertaining fighting game I've ever played.

There should have been part 2 and 3 of garou mark of the wolves it was an excellent game.

I think my problem with older Fatal Fury games is that I didn't even know about it until I played KOF 95. And that wasn't even in 95 lol. So I had to go backwards playing Fatal Fury and they, in my mind, did not stand up to what I experienced in Kof 95 which was the Orochi saga. But I did appreciate the backstory I learned while playing! SNK has always done a fantastic job of actually having a story. The real bouts were the gems of this series for sure. Garou Densetsu wild ambition! Now this game definitely deserves its status as the best Fatal Fury of all time! I loved playing with Khushnood Butt and rock Howard! Great list Shoryu!

One of my favorite fighting game series of all time. Fatal Fury series was such an innovative franchise, thank you for giving the series the respect it deserves.

The BRAND of SNK, Garou 2 needs a chance!!!

Real Bout 2 is massively underrated. That game is fucking gorgeous. My personal soft spot is for FF3 since it was Yamazaki's debut and that's my favorite FF/KOF character of all time.

Good list overall, I’m not as big of a fan for garou as most people are because the game literally introduced a completely different roster out of nowhere when I already was used to the original roster that I always was able to play with. Plus although the game looks good I don’t think the gameplay flows as well as real bout special and real bout 2. The music is also average to me. Kind of weird to see dominated mind ranked so low compared to real bout special but I can see your point in the ranking. My ranking would be 10. Fatal fury 1(The game doesn’t hold up well compared to the others) 9. Fatal fury wild ambition (Gameplay is solid but also pretty clunky and graphically it looks ugly) 8. Fatal fury 2 (Good sequel but other sequels were much better) 7. Real bout fatal fury (Had some good ideas but once again it’s sequels were just better games with a better roster) 6. fatal fury 3 (Game looks and plays great, it’s just another example of the sequels being better) 5. Fatal fury special (Better than the second game in every way, by far the best of the classic style fatal fury games. Had this game been the one to introduce super moves it would be higher in my list) 4. Garou mark of wolves (Already stayed my opinion on it but still a beautiful looking game with interesting new characters and SF third strike type of gameplay) 3. Fatal fury dominated mind (A less interesting but still really good port of real bout special with some extra modes and characters) 2. Real bout fatal fury special (Love the art style, the music is fantastic, the roster is solid and the combo system is great. There isn’t really anything negative I can say about this game except blue Mary blues should’ve been longer) 1. Real bout 2 (Everything I said about real bout special with extra characters, better looking sprites and really fast and fun gameplay. This is the quintessential fatal fury game to me)

Man! I was playing Wild Ambition just yesterday!!!

I'm glad someone is finally showing some love for Fatal Fury 3, that game to this day has my favorite presentation of any SNK game and possibly any fighting game out there and one of the best video game soundtracks ever created, it'd be my number 1 easily, but I can completely understand why people would prefer Garou, it's just as good in many departments and it's a lot easier to get into.

The biggest sin Fatal Fury 3 did was changing Mai's costume. She is more censored there 3:24-3:30 Actually the first fighting game to introduced supers was Art of Fighting 4:02 The longest intro in a fighting game ever! Maximum Impact 2 has the second longest. 5:13 Thank you for including *Mai Mai Kyunn* in the music for the #7 It is my favorite theme for Mai 😊 6:26 Bad memories of the loading time in Neo Geo CD console... Those were a nightmare Btw, I like White, he is weird but cool 11:43 Those alt. versions of Mary, Billy, Tung and Andy were like something from a fanfiction XD Billy being a ladies man? Blue Mary as a punk? Tung with amnesia? Evil Andy? 😆

Great video as always!!! I have always enjoyed Fatal fury from the beginning and have to say this ranking is pretty spot on!!! I would love another Mark of the Wolves, but also afraid it may never live up to the original.....

Fatal Fury was and still is, my favorite SNK fighting game franchise and fighting game franchise all together. Terry Bogard is my fave fighting game hero period. I loved this series, because it was fun, colorful, great characters and it was great in FF3 and the real bout games where you could interact with the stages.I wish SNK would revive it.....it's been too damn long.

I wish the Maximum Impact games were canon in the Fatal Fury lore. Sometimes I wonder why SNK Playmore didn't just call these games as Fatal Fury/Garou Maximum Impact. I mean the setting was there, a tournament in Southtown many years after the events of Geese's death in Real Bout, Terry is now in his Wild Wolf costume, Ryo is Mr. Karate, Rock is a teenager plus Geese is now somekind of ghost in those games. If fans are saying "but there are KOF characters there" mind you there are many cameos of KOF characters in the Fatal Fury games. Just put MI1 some years after Real Bout and before Garou MOW and that's it.

RB2 is insanely fast compared to the rest of the series. Sometimes it feels jarring, but I love how snappy and straightforward it is. It is the most "hyper arcade" experience SNK has ever made, even wheb compared with KoF and AoF.

The sprites animations on this series are a thing of beauty!

Real Bout fatal fury 2 is my entry game in ALL snk games i used to play it with cousins

(before watching) watch out, if RB1 is not first, i'll "freak out" 😂 (after watching) you're right, nostalgia takes a big part in players opinions, i liked everything people hated about RB1, the ring out function reminded me of virtua fighter 2, some endings were pretty good and i still love the gameplay today. RB1 is my favorite fighting game of all time. By the way, your video's as great as always, delevering enough informations and illustrations. Keep it up, for the love of SNK 😉

By the time RB series was out, i was too deep into KOF to care about fatal fury anymore. I have to say though that changed with MOTW, what a game

nightmare Geese's air "double double reppuken" is one the most ridiculous things to come out of a characters mouth and I loved it!

Top notch work as usual. I have a request/suggestion tho, can you time to time show a brief portion of high level matches when talking about a game ? Sometimes you just show a random vs CPU which doesn't represent the game accurately.

In my opinion Mark of the Wolves aesthetically does hang with Street Fighter 3 and actually looks better in some ways despite having older hardware

Akuma - I'm the first hidden boss in fighting games! Ryo/Mr.Karate - Iam I a joke to you? Also it took Capcom tons of SFII iterations before having supers, from the get go FF2 already implemented them.

Last year, Yasuyuki Oda and Nobuyuki Kuroki, the 2 SNK staffs that worked on Garou Mark of the Wolves, who still works in SNK today, stated this last year in some interviews : Yasuyuki Oda : "I'm going to do something about Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 before I die, so keep supporting us!" Nobuyuki Kuroki : "As long as I'm still working in SNK, I will try to bring that game into existence. Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 will probably come in 10 - 15 years." Personally, I have no problem waiting for the game to come in the future. Just wanted SNK to know that they still have some supporters and fans who will keep supporting them! 😊✌️

I don't think Garou should be considered a Fatal Fury game. If a short-haired version of Ukyo was put into Last Blade, would that make it a Samurai Shodown game? Sure, Garou shares a setting with Fatal Fury, but so does Art of Fighting and King of Fighters. That's why there's a Kyokugen-trained fighter in Garou. If Garou isn't an Art of Fighting game because it doesn't have any Art of Fighting mechanics, then it shouldn't be a Fatal Fury game because it doesn't have any Fatal Fury mechanics.

I knew the series from Fatal Fury 1, personally I liked it a lot from Special but I would never put that game above Real Bout, simply because Real Bout's gameplay is much better. Real Bout also simplified the gameplay of Fatal Fury 3 making it more friendly, although FF3 is very beautiful but the story of RB is much more important than that of FF3 and the scenarios are more realistic for the approach of the game, also having borders forces you that even if you have an advantage in the fight, do not neglect at any time or you will lose. MoTW is also very good but the error is the same as SFIII, so I could not consider it the best game when almost all the characters that I like in the saga are missing and the story remains unfinished. I think I would not consider dream match games much because although they are better in gameplay they lack that which I liked so much about the saga, which is the plot, and Fatal Fury without its plot would not be the same for me.

first fatal fury is so cool compared to sf1. even the graphics are better than sf2. flashy skill and super. unique characters. i put my coins on arcade so many times. worth it

I have most of these on the Neo Geo CD. Garou I have on the Dreamcast...however, I am sorely lacking Wild Ambition. As always, I appreciate your efforts to illuminate the lore of SNK games.

Looks like we share the same view in ranking the upper half of the series. Sidnote Rick Stwrod is the most underrated character of these games IMO! My personal ranking for the lower half is: 10. Garou Densetsu 9. Garou Densetsu: Wild Ambition 8. Garou Densetsu: Dominated Mind 7. Real Bout Garou Densetsu 6. Garou Densetsu 2

I also play java version Fatal Fury. Press 047 to use Burn Knuckle & 069 to use Power Wave. I can't forget this golden past.

I haven't played most of this games, except Garou, Wild Ambition (also in PS1) and some of the very old ones. Garou is one of my most favourite fighting games. I find it almost perfect. The storyline of the characters seems very adult and deep. The artwork is also gorgeous.

2:06 - Street Fighter II came out before Fatal Fury. (I owned a Genesis and the Fatal Fury port came out first for the Genesis. However, the original SFII for the arcades came out before Fatal Fury.)

Fatal Fury Special will always be my favorite ... great early 90s arcade memories and matches .. however I also loved Real Bout Fatal Fury .. my 2nd favorite game in the franchise.

My problem is the online store...ps4or switch..I wish mainly to acquire it for my switch...as I go to the shop it shows the o.g. then adds special on to it then another..then fatal fury 2 here, we go again ff2special....and it does it for kof...any of them...so which do I get. I ask cuz I work hard for my money and to rebuy the same damn game only for one little detail...7.99all day for any of the games on the switch, now come on..there is literally 3version of the first title alone and so on..plz help..!!! anyone!!

Great video. I think Real Bout is underrated. The out of bound mechanic is a lot of fun (and unique) and the game has a comic book feeling that is really nice. Not the best but a lot of fun. Take care. :)

Seeing the ending of the China team in KOF XIV, does anyone think some Fatal Fury characters might return? The ending even showed Jeff Bogard, implying he might be revived from Verse.

SNK is like a grandpa to me who invents things and they constantly makes things better each year. When it comes to Capcom..... I don't know how to describe them

The original Fatal Fury wasn't a "response" to Street Fighter, it was actually a sort of spiritual sequel led by the same designer. The only thing in which FF3 beats Real Bout is the story element, that was really interesting, but Real Bout was a lot faster and strategic, you might find the out of bounds mechanic unfair, but it's part of the strategy, pure ground control, you allow the enemy to corner you, you're screwed. Versus battles in the arcades in this game were pretty epic. Also, a lot more combo friendly. And no, Street Fighter 3 wasn't a fail by any means, people played it a lot and to this day is highly regarded as one of the best fighting games ever, it wasn't popular beyond the arcades because the lack of home ports until the dreamcast, which launched two or three years after the arcade game. I agree in that RB2 still looks gorgeous to this day. It's sad that this and Art of Fighting have been collecting dust in the imaginary SNK IP shelf, but I'm not really sure they could do something interesting with Fatal Fury considering they're focused on pumping dlc characters in subpar UE4 models for the last five years.

I love the cast of MotW, but gameplay wise, RBS and RB2 are much more balanced, fun and tactical to play. The motw just defend is an interesting mechanic, but the Special moves cancels are awful (and broken for most chars). The vast array of target combos of RB serie is much more fun for beginners, and still very tactical for seasoned fighters Gosh, i would love a RB 3 game as polished as the SamSho 2019 remix.

The first Fatal Fury Game I played was on the Sega Game Gear 1994 can’t remember wich one but I think it was Fatal Fury Special Edition

Good list you should do AOF and Samsho next now I haven’t played every FF game just yet and Wild Ambition looks pretty bad I more than likely won’t play that one but my top favorites from what I have are 1. Fatal Fury Special (awesome roster playing as all the 5 bosses from FF2 and FF1 plus Tung Fu Rue and few others from FF1 plus Ryo Sakazaki as a hidden character you got a winner here) 2. Garou Mark Of The Wolves 3. Fatal Fury 2 4. Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 5. Fatal Fury 6. Fatal Fury 3 Yeah thats all I got folks haven’t played the rest!!
