Good album, the album that Haywyre first released on so that summarises it. ▼▼▼▼ Follow my socials ▼▼▼▼ Twitter: / hawkseey Soundcloud: / hawkseey (i repost stuff)
Let's Be Friends despite the name had some amazing songs back in the day. An actual shame they don't release anymore. Soulero pretty much never misses.
This was definitely where Monstercat started to rise in quality, artists, and design. I don't know why, but it felt weird seeing both the old layout and the star layout interchangeably. Regardless of that, that top 10 was just gem after gem.
man, i remember back in 2018 when i was still listening to mainstream pop, while my younger brother decided to show me speaking of the truth. when i first listened to it, i thought it was just painful to listen to. however, i continually kept listening to it because it kinda piqued some interest in me for edm. one thing led to another, and listening to mcat and edm in general is virtually a ritual at this point. while i wasn’t aware of mcat’s discog back in 2013, i still feel a sense of nostalgia to some degree. rlly cool to see how much mcat’s music has progressed over the years
There's a lot of amazing music on this album but honestly, I hype this one up just because Video Boy is on it. Words can't describe why I fucking love this song so much, it is with out a doubt, not only my favorite Monstercat release, but legitimately my favorite song ever. It is a lot to say, with a song with no actual vocals and from the outside. Just seems like your standard electro track. But to me, this song embodies what I love about music so much. The creative freedom people have to express themselves in any way they can. The fact that even with no real vocals, you can still deliver an emotional track. The fact that such a simple melody can give a sense of nostalgia, bliss, happiness but also sadness when it needs to be. The fact that such a simple track with a simple structure manages to take my breath away with every listen. A song that to me atleast, will always stand the test of time. I never get bored listening to it, I never can not listen to that song and not smile. It's so hard to say everything I really do feel about that song but jesus christ. I'm just so happy that someone else can have it at their #1 on this album as well. I feel like most people would have something like Manslaughter VIP or Sugar Rush or even Universal which, are all amazing songs, ranked at their #1. Which is totally okay. Music is subjective and all that but seriously, it makes me so happy every time I see Video Boy at someone elses #1. Just... wow
Video Boy is an incredible adventure to go through. Soulero's one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) in balancing out upbeat with melancholy in his melodies. It sneaks in slowly, and really makes you feel the greatest flurry of emotions. I don't think I've found a similar artist on Monstercat or outside the label either. Everything seems raw with feelings, even though the song in and of itself is pretty simple. I miss Soulero. I hope he comes back. Even if it's not on Monstercat, I want to listen to another Miss Me, We Used To Talk For Hours, Aura, Seconds Away, Video Boy. I hope he's doing fine. His music's gotten me and a lot of people through the years.
I think this was the point where I discovered the label, and my God...It's the greatest nostalgia trip ever. There was a noticeable uptick in quality when the new layout came through, and at this point, I stuck along for the ride. These next few years for the label were so memorable.
yeah its called i make the video public whenever i feel lol got a massive backlog so each morning i wake up and go "today i'm gonna upload this one" and that's about it, really. not great with proper schedules.
what the actual fuck? putting You and Me near last is a deadly sin. how could you? that bassline is CRAZYY also Delayed Friend request is the best 7minutes dead release and the best track off this album
I think this is the point where the albums no longer contain horribly dated songs, but there's more mediocre songs in this one than in 015. Some absolute ripper in this one! 30) Stereotronique - No Holding On Damn, Stereo! Back at it again with generic electro! 29) 7 Minutes Dead - Delayed Friend Request More 7MD that does nothing for me. Respect to the dude, but not for me. 28) Teqq - Lock In Your Love The drop feels like it's missing something. SO close to not being a generic house track, but it still is one. 27) Razihel - Seeking of the Truth Thoroughly dislike the vocals and the drop is miles away from being his best work. 26) Stephen Walking - Some Kinda Wizard His weird style still hasn't evolved enough. 25) Noisestorm - Eclipse Pretty decent buildup ruined by a tedious and repetitive drop (the 2nd part of it is super grading to me). 24) Razihel & Virtual Riot - 1_4 All, All 4_1 Always forget this one. It just does nothing for me, even though I like both artists. 23) AZEDIA - Calm Down The only reason it's so high up is because the drop's melody is very memorable (fits great into Varien's orchestral suite). 22) Mr FijiWiji & Direct - Hysteria Nothing against it, I just never feel like listening to it. Maybe it's the drop? 21) Fractal - Atrium This just makes me want to listen to Itvara. It's decent, just not my cup of tea. 20) Bustre - You and Me Could be higher if there were better vocal chops (it just doesn't fit). The drop is quite fun, but not as memorable as Hurt For Me or ZERO-G. 19) Favright - Nerve Middle of the road electro. It's alright. 18) Direct - Lonely Soul I wish there was more bass, honestly, the kick feels too weak. The melody is also a bit lackluster. 17) TwoThirds - Universal His most overrated song. The main catch of the melody is repeated too often and I'm not a fan of stop-continue melody chops. 16) Falcon Funk - Leophant Forgot this existed. Honestly underrated, a bit melancholic and basic, but I honestly feel like it does the job. 15) Bustre - Riftwalk Dark ambient, groovy drop. Not as good as Combine, but still good. 14) Pegboard Nerds - So What Kinda forgot about this EP (only still care for the Razor Sharp VIP), but it's fun glitch hop. If the tempo was a bit faster, it would be even better. 13) Rameses B - Full Force You often mention dated production. Rameses B's stuff to me is the EPITOME of dated production, at least on earlier albums. This is one of his better works and memorable, but my tastes moved away from it. 12) Televisor - Dream Soda So quietly mastered for some reason. The atonal vocal chops don't help it either. I never feel like listening to it, but despite all that it's still an alright effort. 11) TTC - Eye of the Storm I wish the drop was something different, because I love the buildup and Laura's vocals, especially that last verse. 10) Soulero - Video Boy Usually I pass on old Soulero, but this one is very charming. I can see why it hits nostalgic and heartfelt to many. 9) Au5 - Blossom One of his most iconic and best dubstep works. I'm not in the mood for it often, but it sounds fantastic. 8) Throttle - Boombox Mixed feelings on this one regarding the drop, but it's fun to listen and the bass destroys! 7) Haywyre - Synergy (relisten) What a debut! I've slept on this one as a teenager, but it's honestly a great revisit. 6) PIXL - Sugar Rush Arguably his best work, still. The title perfectly describes the song's feel. 5) Muzzy - The Phantom This whole EP was amazing! Always liked the production and the bridge. 4) Razihel - Bad Boy "Sounds like Skrolix" glitch Hop, but apart from the dated production, it is very memorable and it evokes innocent fun. 3) Lets Be Friends - Manslaughter VIP "11 bars hitting the top of the visualizer" drop still goes H-A-R-D! Stone cold classic, 10/10! 2) Draper - Men & Machines Scandalous to put this one so low. This one really squeezes your heart, especially if you watch the music video, man. Such a sad story. 10/10 1) Televisor - Old Skool Not many people's favorites and I know ppl prefer the remixes, but goddamn, this one is so funky, the post-drop melody slays and the chorus is so Daft Punk-y. My fave TV song. 11/10.
