I love how everyone in that room heard Marine and you could see the crayon jokes forming in their heads. They were ignorant about the world he was coming from while he knew exactly what world they came from, so they felt fine dismissing him. EQ is a bogus metric made up by like a journalist, but if it meant anything then they all would be incredibly low on the list just because of that. My man came in cocky for a good reason.

@Eetzjuss Toogood EQ is real. Its about self-awareness and social skills. Its the most important ability to climb the corporate ladder. The corporate culture is full of people with high EQ. Its the skill that allows you to read the room, its knowing when to make a joke and knowing when to be quiet. Its knowing when to push an issue and when to shut up even though you're right. @AH - 10ZZ 678263 Streetsville SS True. But there are various different IQ tests and they undoubtedly will have different application of merit for each. So, in this case, they were very explicit about the ranking as they called out each person's name and then their rank, it would be a safe assumption they used another measurement for further delineation, possibly time or a time zone, once the scores were tied. When I got out, I went back to college and found it way easier my last three years than the fist year had been. It was clearly because of being taught functionality and discipline in the Army and it was instantly applicable to college and everything else I did. I learned a lot from both, but there was little overlap in the actual education. Military really taught me the concept of "skin in the game" vs. justice/fairness.

People with artistic intuition and creative vision have a totally different type of intelligence. It's impossible to quantify. And yeah, Tyler! As for the rest of them, I would so much rather be wrong than insult someone when they've already been singled out. So glad he ranked above the rudest ones in the group. Emotional intelligence, to me, is closer to maturity. Assuming you read the room correctly isn't mature; it's just presumptuous. If you're pretty and have a PhD, no ones going to correct you.

Emotional intelligence isn't a thing, it's social skills and maturity. As far as artistic intuition and creative vision, it is not a different type of intelligence at all. IQ tests measure that just as well. Both artistic creatives and analytical creatives are engaging essentially in problem-solving (the artistic problems are more abstract but it's the same skill). I guarantee Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Michelangelo, etc would score just as high on an IQ test as Einstein or Newton. The personality trait openness to experiencce is another direct method of quantifying creativity, it is not impossible to quantify at all. Openness to experience has two categories: intellect (roughly defined as interest in ideas) and openness proper (roughly defined as interest in aesthetics, art). The former is essentially the more analytical, logical of the two, while the latter is the more artistic, and creative. Both of them are very strongly correlated with IQ. If you want to measure creativity, you measure openness proper, and iq, that's a very good way to measure it.
@chrisallum9044
@chrisallum9044 3 года назад
That isn't intelligence. Intelligence is a specific thing. Those are other different skills. Intelligence doesn't mean your worth as a human being lol so don't get insecure like the people in the video. Emotional intelligence isn't a thing. Empathy is. intelligence is. Sometimes a person can be both, either or none. It's literally separate parts of the brain doing these operations. Intelligence is basically genetic. You can change it but only for the worse really through malnutrition and so forth. Like height. Education can make you smarter. It can't make you more intelligent.
@captainthrall
@captainthrall 2 года назад
No. Intelligence is a specific thing, and an IQ test is designed to measure it. Of course people get offended and saddened, and they don't want to believe they're inferior if they have a low IQ... which is why Sada and Maria immediately discredited IQ tests the moment they discovered their IQs were low. They want to say other things like EQ, intersectionality, artistic ability, etc should all be taken into consideration. Simply put, they're wrong. Intelligence is a singular attribute. I'm not saying creativity and charisma aren't valuable attributes as well. I'm simply saying they're different. You can have extremely low intelligence and paint the Sistene Chapel (Michaelangelo was believed to be autistic). You can also have high intelligence and be extremely artistic. The two things aren't correlated. Just like an intelligent person can have incredible charisma, or they can have the charisma of a wet blanket. All of these attributes are independent of each other.
@Somegirl811
@Somegirl811 2 года назад
@@captainthrall wrong. Intelligence is this: the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. All the IQ in the world won't help you to develop the vast majority of skills. It takes a lot more than a series multiple choice questions to determine that.

I usually don't really like "reaction" videos but I must say that watching this one was nice. About judging people, I have noticed something. When people are asked to judge and rank other people on something specific, most of the time, people end up ranking people, not on what they're supposed to judge them on but depending on how much they like them. In this case, they were supposed to judge people on intelligence but, like one girl said _"It's not that you're not intelligent, it's because I don't like the military"_ or something like that. The same happens on TV shows like American Idol, America has talent, etc... At first, they are judged by their skills but then, after a few episodes, once people have had the chance to learn about these people a little bit, it's no longer about their talent but about how likable they are.

They're taking online abridged IQ tests, so obviously the accuracy is diminished substantially. Tyler said he scored a 94 on the ASVAB, which is generally thought to correlate very closely with IQ. ASVAB scores are percentiles, so a 94 would put Tyler in the 94th percentile of intelligence, which is equivalent to an IQ of about 124. If we assume that all of their IQs were inflated by the same 7 points, that would indicate the Harvard kid had an IQ of about 129.

I can say that I've definitely learnt more practical and useful stuff during my growth as an IT than what I've learnt in the university. I now think that the university education is useless for a large amount of the students and they're wasting their time there. There are many professions that don't require university degree. I've had a colleague from Sweden who said that when they graduate from school they don't immediately apply for university, but rather they start traveling abroad, working, meeting new people, cultures, exploring, learning and then they come back and eventually go to university if they like. Did like the two statements at the end. Tyler pointed out that they were there ranking each other on perceived intelligence so getting an IQ test at the end was not unexpected. Maria on the other hand was surprised, thinking they were going to be given some sort of social media thing. If IQ is a good measure of your ability to understand and adapt to new situations then it feels like the editors were happy to make a point of demonstrating 20 points difference right there.

I think when people say that Tyler's rude, they are just confusing Tyler's straightforward/no bs/no sugarcoating attitude, and Maria's egotistical/narcissistic/elitist personality. If you look at both of them closely you can tell that Maria's the one who's so high up in the clouds, and Tyler's just the honest guy.

The fact that she said that “I’ve studied spanish for 12 years and can only order a burrito” directly supports Tyler’s point that you can’t really improve (beyond a certain point) your ability to perceive and apply things that you learn. His “you can’t get better at learning” was poorly worded but the whole idea of intelligence is rooted in that

One of my takeaways is that absolutely no one knows what the ASVAB is. For those who don't know, it's essentially an IQ test the military gives when ppl try to join, to figure out what jobs they're able to be in. Tyler's score of 95 means he scored in the highest 95th percentile. In other words, before anyone ranks anyone it's already out there that Tyler scored in the type 5% of an IQ test.

IQ tests were originally created in France to identify young students who needed more help to succeed at the level of the rest of the students and to identify the areas they needed that help. It was co-opted and changed and used later especially in the US to discriminate and take people's rights away

“There is no such thing as EQ. Let me repeat that: There is no such thing as EQ. The idea was popularized by a journalist, Daniel Goleman, not a psychologist. You can't just invent a trait. You have to define it and measure it and distinguish it from other traits and use it to predict the important ways that people vary.” - Jordan B Peterson By the way, never compare a man that works or have worked for the armed forces the same way you compare a civilian. They are taught to view themselves as the best and become capable leaders. It may come of as arrogant to you but that’s just how they are. They are a cut above regular people.
@dbergerac9632
@dbergerac9632 3 года назад
Also, the many schools that you must attend in the military in order to achieve can be VERY demanding academically. Civilians usually think it's "High School - Boot Camp - Combat." Of my brother's four years in the USAF in a classified technical field, two of those years were entirely in classrooms. My son once said he wanted to join the army because he was tired of school. I nearly hurt myself laughing.
@JGA2758
@JGA2758 3 года назад
@@dbergerac9632 I totally understand. It takes a lot of strength to join the military. Like you said, it’s very demanding. You need to be strong physically, emotionally and academically because shooting guns is not the only thing they teach. There’s indoor and outdoor learning. Even before all this, you MUST attain the minimum standards to simply get in. There’s no relaxation to the standards even by a tiny bit when it comes to the military, they’re merciless. A simple common cold can get you kicked out of selection, at least where I’m from. Anyone who tries to go to the military thinking it’s an easy way out will get a reality check. You need to have a completely different mindset if you’re to be a soldier. A lot of regular folks act like people in the military are just given the uniforms and guns to go and shoot. They don’t realise how demanding it is by all means.
