Whether he was genuinely concerned for Rhett or not has nothing to do with the part that was bothering Rhett. It was how Link went about it. Clearly you weren't listening to what Rhett was saying, or u didn't understand. Asking a question like "Do you feel disappointed, or like failure?" implies that there is something that person thinks you should feel disappointed, or like a failure about. Even if you feel like they should feel disappointed in themselves, you shouldn't make that known. Especially to a friend, and asking a question like that, shows exactly that.

News flash! It's not cool to ask your best friend if they feel like a failure! According to Rhett.. link knows Rhett better than any of us and I believe him when he says Rhett seems sad he's genuinely trying to confront about why that is and Rhett gets offended because he ask some questions meanwhile they poke fun at links intelligence all the time and he plays along with it, not to mention when Rhett says link is socially unintelligent for asking why rat seems sad. Link might have been projecting and asked questions that were a little offensive but literally does that all the time to link and he can't take a little back himself? The ego of that dude bothers me

@@alphasheep99 It's not cool to ask how your friend is feeling then disregard their answer completely while trying to _tell_ them how they feel. Rhett has said this about himself when talking about his personality type and enneagram number. The fact that Rhett got so defensive and then started picking Link apart just goes to show that Rhett did feel like a failure and was upset that he couldn’t be the best at shoeing the horse. Link could have just stood there and laughed while watching Rhett try to shoe the horse but instead he tried helping by offering Rhett a supporting knee and then asking continuously if he is ok. Man, this was a powerful episode. It is uncomfortable, but definitely worth a watch. I do believe Link's heart is always in the right place, but he just goes with some sort of gut-reaction or just whatever his mind comes up with first when he has an idea - It's great for comedy, but not so great when the subject is a little more weighty.

I understand where Rhett was coming from but making remarks about Link’s EQ was kind of uncalled for :\\ Link obviously was just genuinely concerned for Rhett. Of course there’s better ways to communicate those concerns, but it seemed a little more like belittlement than teaching on Rhett’s end in some moments.

While I really appreciate them communicating openly, this episode really upset me because I can imagine the anxiety of trying to check in with a friend’s state of mind and getting picked apart and critiqued for it especially with all those people watching. I’m glad they resolved it, but I honestly think they can both learn from that interaction. Rhett made valid points about Link’s tact in approaching a situation like that. Rhett could probably reflect on the way he handled that situation because I think I would feel really defeated if a friend started trying to give me therapy in front of everyone. It was just a bit upsetting I think for everyone involved.

Yes, Link can sometimes be arkward how he says things, but Rhet said some pretty harsh things about Link in this conversation about how Link is lacking emotional intelligence and empathy which I don't think is true. You could tell that Link was genuinely concerned and supportive in the main episode and in More. I don't know about Link, I don't know him but he said that he has anxiety, but as an anxious person myself, it would give me anxiety and I would second guess myself pretty hard if someone said those harsh things to me. That being said, this is my opinion and we don’t know their relationship dynamic so it’s probably all good. And I love them both! PS: Sorry for my english. @@shannong2174 I legit feel like this video was just Rhett gaslighting Link for saying what he was seeing. @some-one-else
@some-one-else 2 года назад
@@KitKom I've been struggling to put my thoughts into words and what you said is pretty close to what I was thinking. I wouldn't call it gaslighting per say since that's intentional manipulation, but it definitely felt like Rhett was treating his interpretation as fact while also telling Link to not assume his interpretation is fact. I definitely agree with the taking things at face value vs interpreting it as an attack part. I struggle with subtext so admittedly I didn't even think of how what link said could be misinterpreted, but it seems weird that Rhett acknowledged it as subtext and instead of giving link the benefit of the doubt or asking him what he meant, he just assumed his assumption was correct.

I've rewatch the show to understand how everything unfolded.. at the beginning Link said a couple of jokes and Rhett didn't pick them up, like usual, because he was clearly exhausted.. I think Link read those initial interactions like frustration or even disappointment toward him maybe .. and in the anxiety of the moment he worded his concern in the wrong way.. After that Rhett brain started to work at full speed and became, rightly, a little defensive.. Meanwhile Link was still at the beginning of the "argument" because that was his main concern that Rhatt wasn't sad/mad at him or himself.. Ps I love you Guys .. this was one of the most interesting More ever

I think what Rhett was getting at is that you need to listen and not tell or believe how people are. Link seemed to be trying to get him to admit to something Rhett does not want to or even need to admit to. I very much enjoyed the intellectual conversation on how to empathize and communicate.
@sweetagain
@sweetagain 2 года назад
And coming from link's point of view- if Rhett didn't want to answer, he could've and should've just said that instead of skirting around it. It's really frustrating for people with a direct method of communication to have to do mental gymnastics to understand when people just decide not to answer a question. "I don't want to answer" is a full answer, but avoiding answering is not.
