Fantastic ranking Dylan! An almost impossible task. I don't know how you were able to keep this at 30 minutes. You spent the perfect amount of time talking about each album. Well done! Number one for me will always be Red with Court and Larks right behind. I can only click the thumbs up button once but trust me I'm holding up both thumbs!

In 1969 a boy in my art class brought a record to school with the wildest cover ever seen!! In the court was the greatest enlightenment of music to a 14 year old kid!! 1. Lizard 2. Red 3. In the court 4. In the wake 5. Larks tongue 6. Starless 7-13? Any of the rest LPs are tied for 7th place.. because I listen to the first 6 LPs all the time compared to the rest of the LPs!! Great analysis and great work!! Thank you for your hard work

ConstruKction/Reconstrukction came out shortly after my 16th birthday and was the first thing I bought after I got my driver's license and could jump in the car and chase down any old thing I felt like. So it's always had a special place in my heart. I can see the argument about it being less melodic than some of their other material, but the density you mentioned gives it its own place in their world.

King Crimson is the North Korea of rock bands. Not only due to the ultra strict vibes it gives to its audience (forbidding all photography and recording) and band members (Extremely demanding to every musician), but because it is a relatively small and little-known band compared to all the iconic rock giants, that punches FAR ABOVE AND BEYOND its weight.

I was fortunate enough to be at the very last tool concert then break my pandemic mold by flying all the way from the other side of Oregon to see KC live at NYC. I've been collecting King Crimson for 50 years, my taste is more towards RIO and Avant-garde so that dictates my list of favourites. Which obviously, like most lists, says more about me than Crimson. I've got all the box sets plus live albums by current line ups but this is my list of the albums. 1. Lizard 2. Larks Tongues in Aspic 3. Starless and Bible Black 4. Islands 5. Red 6. In the Wake of Poseidon 7. In the Court of the Crimson King 9. The Power to Believe 10. Thrak 11. Discipline 12. Three of a Perfect Pair 13. Beat 14. The Construction of Light Although, the last two studio albums are lower on this list, I love the Projects work and probably play music from the Heaven and Earth box the most.

Thanx, as a big KC fan, nice to hear this review. Very well done! And yep the main flow of your ranking follows mine, with some changes in position. Although I agree that Court of course is the most influential and groundbreaking, its not my personal nr1. But ranking KC albums is almost impossible. Thinking about the bottom of the list, How can albums that contain such amazing tracks as construKction of Light or Neurotica be so low. Well I think because KC is such a great great band... 1) Larks 2) Red 3) Lizard 4) Court of 5) Discipline 6) Starless and BB 7) Poseidon 8) Power to believe 9) Islands 10) Thrak 11) Three of a perfect pair 12) Beat 13) ConstruKction

I like hearing opinions on the discography of one of my favorite bands of all time, so thanks for the video. I don't agree with most of it though. I've come around to Islands and have rated it much higher than I used to, but I just don't get the adoration for Lizard. An awesome, cathartic opening and some brilliant intensity in the Battle of Glass Tears, but the rest of the album is like drunk jazz and just doesn't work at all for me. And I would say that Thrak is a stronger album than the watered down Poseidon.

He isnt ranking it based on his personal favourites, hes ranking it based on what he thinks is objectively better. So Starless And Bible Black is his personal favourite, but In The Court is objectively better

Every time someone puts Lizard above In The Wake of Poseidon, I throw up a little in my mouth.

We have the same top three. Just in a different order.. I don't really listen to any KC albums past Red, honestly. I just can't get into that sound.

I hate the SW remix of Lizard, at least the one in the box. Its clearly the black sheep of those remixes because Fripp "helped" Wilson with it and made edits to the music which completely change the feel. So I dont think its so much that he likes it now for the new mix, more because he went in and changed a bunch of stuff which makes it more of a re envision. There is a version of that Wilson worked alone on but its only been released on CD and many prefer it.

The following are the 2 best Crimson albums; Larks Tongues in Aspic and Beat. Yeah, I said that. Don't care what anyone thinks

KC is my 2nd favorite band of all time, but I don't get all this 'they don't have a bad album' thing. Of course they bad albums every band does, even my favorite band ever, Black Sabbath, has bad albums. For me I don't like In the Wake, Thrak or Lizard. You people do know it's okay to not like some albums from a band even if you love them, right?

I absolutely hate vinyl. All of these records sound better as 5.1 and Dolby Atmos Steven Wilson remixes. Vinyl is too high maintenance, too much pops and clicks. The first time you play a vinyl record you begin slowly destroying it. I haven't had a turntable in decades. I don't see what you knuckleheads find so charming with it. It should have stayed dead like it was for so long.
