A rival coach described them as a white elephant. It means something that is expensive but not worth the price. The team embraced the insult, and so the elephant became their mascot.
the elephant is now a mascot for the athletics, but back in 1902 when they were the philadelphia athletics, a rival manager (john mcgraw) was asked about the athletics spending a lot of money to bring in the best players at the time. mcgraw responded by basically calling the owner of the athletics (connie mack) a "big white elephant". when mack heard about it, he found it funny and made the elephant an "unofficial" rallying cry
This channel is so refreshing as someone who is just getting back into baseball this year after falling out about the same time as Kenny I love that he’s made a community of casual fans we’re we have a outlet to get back into the game
Idk if the Mets will ever change the logo. It embodies the Mets perfectly with the skyline and all. It looks like the grey and whites weren’t touched but I loved this guys changes to the black and blue jerseys. So clean
Kenny, the a’s started using the elephant after being called a white elephant a long long long long tome ago. White elephant meaning they were expensive but not worth the price, the a’s took the insult like champs and now it’s been they’re mascot forever. Probably like 100 years
YEEEESSSSSSS! Bring back the purple and green baby. Hire that dude to the backs and do it now. I'm actually not a fan of the different logo though. Leve off the rattle
Braves logo is old from 40-50 years ago. They still wear uniforms with that logo on special occasions every year. Definitely not something that studio came out with.
As someone who isn't a big NBA fan I love your normal content. As an MLB fan it's awesome to see your content on basebal and to see you bringing new fans to the sport
@Timmy t the goal of the channel isn’t to bring anyone to baseball it’s to show his progression from a casual fan to a hardcore fan also, how does he talk like a kindergarten teacher?
@@iconic6625 what kind of comment even is this 😂 homie didn't even say "the goal of the channel isn't to bring anyone to baseball" he said "It's awesome... to see you bringing new fans to the sport." why are you so arbitrarily angry?
@@antthehckyplayer I was replying to some 1 else who deleted their reply to this comment saying “he isn’t bringing anyone knew to baseball especially when he talks like a kindergarten teacher” or something like that
9:24 Heres the history behind the athletics elephant btw: The origin of the elephant dates back to 1902, when John McGraw held a news conference after he was set to leave his position as manager of the Baltimore Orioles to take on the same role with the New York Giants. A reporter asked McGraw about his thoughts on the Philadelphia A’s, who at the time had been making headlines as they bought up contracts of some of the top players in the National League, such as Hall of Fame pitcher Rube Waddell and outfielder Topsy Hartsel. Unenthused by the question, McGraw responded, “The Philadelphia club will make no money. They have a big white elephant on their hands.” That diss by McGraw got back to then-A’s owner Connie Mack, who was amused by the comment so much that he made a white elephant the team’s unofficial mascot as a sort of rallying cry. Three years later, when the A’s and Giants squared off in the 1905 World Series, Mack carried on the playful back and forth by presenting McGraw with a white elephant statue before Game 1. For the next 50 years, the elephant continued to integrate itself as part of A’s tradition, eventually becoming the primary logo on the front of the team’s uniform.
I love my boston sports and the traditions behind them, but it kind of sucks that we don't try to change it up very much, even just for an alternate uniform in any of our sports. A lot of people were hating on the new red sox jerseys with the yellow and baby blue, but I like that they tried something new and I wish my celtics would try something like that. I'm sure other city's like New York and LA feel similarly.
As an Orioles fan. I love the alternate logo with the feather. Super clean. That Diamondbacks rebrand is fire as well. Great video Kenny. Also nice haircut
only difference in the mets home and away jersey is the sleeve patch and for the blue uni he added orange piping samee with the black jersey with the blue piping
9:12 the “New York” is different plus we don’t have a black jersey and the blue jersey has a different color font and band on the arm the blue jersey also has orange font not white or it has gray on the road version
The Cardinals also have had the St Louis under the bat as a alt logo but the Navy Blue and the red jersey look clean they should make some for the regular season
