Ranking the Palaces of Persona 5 Royal from Worst to Best

After how repetitive the dungeons of Persona 3 and 4 were, I was pleasantly surprised by how fun and well-made the dungeons of Persona 5 were by comparison. My ranking of the palaces: 9. *Spaceport of Greed* 8. *Cruiser of Pride* 7. *Prison of Regression* 6. *Bank of Gluttony* 5. *Museum of Vanity* 4. *Castle of Lust* 3. *Laboratory of Sorrow* 2. *Pyramid of Wrath* 1. *Casino of Envy*

My absolute favorite game ever, love it despite its flaws; although they're certainly few in comparison to other main line titles. 1-Maruki/Shido (Completely Interchangeable in terms of my own admiration) 3-Sae 4-Futaba 5-Kamoshida 6-Kaneshiro 7-Madarame 8-Prison of Regression/Qiploth 9-Okumura

Persona 5 Royal is a really special game to me because there is genuinely no part of it that I truly disliked, yeah the puzzles in the palaces can be kind of cheap sometimes, but that’s to be expected. Agreed with most of this list, Futaba’s palace is probably in my top 3 at this point along with Sae and Maruki but I definitely enjoyed Shido’s palace a lot too. Great video, man.

Persona 5 Royal is my personal favorite 8th gen game and 5th favorite game, period, behind Deus Ex, Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Thief II: The Metal Age, and Thief: The Dark Project. Here’s my personal ranking of the palaces: 1. Laboratory of Sorrow 2. Tomb of Wrath 3. Museum of Vanity 4. Casino of Envy 5. Castle of Lust 6. Bank of Gluttony 7. Cruiser of Pride 8. Spaceport of Greed 9. Prison of Regression Considering how uninspired Vanilla’s final dungeon was, Laboratory of Sorrow was a breath of fresh air. It’s taken its place as my favorite final level in any game and just misses out on my list of five favorite levels, period. Maruki is also the most compelling and interesting palace owner and his vision of “paradise” is reminiscent of Arthur C. Clarke’s “Childhood’s End.” As great as nihilistic villains like FF6’s Kefka Palazzo can be, I appreciate it when games feature more complex anti-villains, and Maruki stands beside Delita Heiral from Final Fantasy Tactics as one of the best. Not all of P5R’s palaces are top-tier, but the game still boasts arguably the best level design in the genre and among the best in all of gaming, aside from some of the greatest immersive sims (which are nearly impossible to top in that category). Anyway, I enjoy your content as always and look forward to your future uploads!

I also got stuck at the dining room in the Shido Palace for HOURS. Worst level for me will always be Okumura just because the track annoyed me and I didn't enjoy the storyline for it besides Haru. I really enjoyed all the other levels with the bank feeling a bit too long for me but the track was nice. My favorite by far is the Art Musuem, the track is amazing and the visuals are great, and the storyline with Yusuke was amazing. Overall, I would take any level in this game over Persona 3 and the worst dungeons in Persona Q. Royal was what made me get a ps5 and I definitely had a blast with this game.

Man I was addicted to P5 when it first came out and Royal, while being a bit too easy for me, definitely became the definitive version and pushed me to get the plat trophy when I didn't even do it for the original. It made me a big fan of the whole Megami Tensei franchise and while P5 doesn't quite have the luster it once did for me, I still have fond memories of it. Gone was the extremely boring randomly generated floors of P3 and 4 (the former of which took place entirely in one fucking tower). P5 was a tremendous step up in level design and while not perfect boast some of the series' best dungeons without a doubt. Going purely off of memory, my ranking would prolly look similar to yours, but here we go: 1) Lab 2) Pyramid 3) Museum 4) Casino 5) Castle 6) Bank 7) Cruise 8) Spaceship 9) Mementos/Prison Gameplay, visuals, music, story etc. all considered. I love P5 Royal. It's on my list of my favorite games ever. I'd easily put in my order. From best yo worst I'm taking the boss fights and palace into account on this 1. Kamoshida palace 2. Casually commenting a year too late, but I just wanted to say I really love the palace of regression. I felt more immersed in this palace than almost any other, and it really left me with a feeling of dread. The music is also literally my favorite track in the game and I think it fits soooo well. I just wanted to throw out my two cents and I’m proud of love a palace that a lot of people hate lol

My ranking of the P5 palaces would be: 1. Maruki’s Laboratory of Sorrow 2. Sae’s Casino of Envy 3. Madarame’s Museum of Vanity 4. Kamoshida’s Castle of Lust 5. Futaba’s Pyramid of Wrath 6. Kaneshiro’s Bank of Gluttony 7. Shido’s Crusier of Pride 8. Okumura’s Spaceport of Greed 9. Prison of Sloth I don’t believe that there are any bad levels in this game, but I do believe that the stories of Kaneshiro, Okumura, Shido, and the Mementos Depths were weaker than the other palaces. The bottom three palaces also didn’t have visuals that stuck out, nor did they have extremely fun rooms and puzzles.

Kaneshiros palace is the most solid palace in my opinion, not the best place overall but there’s nothing objectively wrong with the palace, it’s a overall pretty fun pretty simple until the end palace. Also makoto is like 70% the reason I love the palace, Makoto is in my top 6 persona characters as of now (that you can have in your party)

Mementos I like every palace and think the dungeons of P5 are a huge upgrade from past Persona games. Go ahead and roast me for putting Okumura at 3 I genuinely enjoyed it and don't understand all of the hate for it, minus of course the change to the okumura boss fight in P5 Royal being absolutely stupid.

One more thing (I commented a lot in this video lol) I just started the game and does it take place after or before the interrogation and I know if it does it’s basically just you making up the past

Welp, time to defend Shido’s palace. God, what am I doing… First, I agree it’s very long. However, considering it’s the big, final palace, I can let it slide. And no, the prison does not count. Honestly, I actually don’t mind Ark as a soundtrack. It has a mix of lo-fi and climactic feel to me that make me just pause sometimes to listen. Plus, it has the thing where it’s the daytime theme, but orchestral instead of Jazzlike. I like that. Honestly, those are really the only complaints I have, coupled with Akechi’s fight relying on wearing you down rather than being a challenge. Combined with the best aesthetic, calling card, ruler boss, a pretty good villain and making everyone relevant? I’d put it in top 3.

Thanks for your 2nd place. It's my favourite one : beautifully designed, difficulty still challenging to this point (it becomes way too easy later on, but we can argue we know the game by heart so...yeah), and the MUSIC THEME ! Although I'm a bit disappointed by Kamoshida's palace ranking, the rest seems fine to me. If I had to make mine : 1 - Madarame 2 - Kamoshida 3 - Futaba 4 - Sae (very close between 3 and 4) 5 - Maruki (yes) 6 - Mementos (from the beginning) 7 - Shido 8 - Okumura (RIP best girl Haru) 9 - Kaneshiro

Okumura's pallace is not nearly as bad as it is on P5 Vanilla. I believe most of the people who hate that palace has nightmares from Vanilla. Royal cut a lot of things, added a few things but they aren't as boring nor as lenghty as the Vanilla palace. Try doing that puzzle on Vanilla, you'll see why people hate the airlock section. XD

I'm always surprised to see where people rank the Museum of Vanity. It's kinda the wild card of persona 5 palace lists. What is your top 5 games of all time

I feel like it's unfair to rank the prison of regression by itself as it's clearly a part of the vanilla final arc as a whole and as such the whole part following with Yaldabaoth should count as well, and there thanks to the phantom thief dissapearing cutscene the stakes felt quite intense.

I always wanted to play persona 5 royal but I never did since I always thought the combat was just Pokémon combat

Your mentioning Simon’s Quest reminds me of just how tedious that game was to play. It’s far from the hardest Castlevania game, but it’s extremely cryptic and level-grindy. I’d say it’s the single most boring RPG I’ve ever beaten. Lol. I admire the ambition of introducing a day/night cycle and nonlinear progression to a game in 1987, but it was poorly implemented and certainly a far cry from what they’d achieve a decade later with Symphony of the Night.

the bossfight is actually the only good part about Okumura's palace. Going through the palace is boring and takes ages, the music drives me insane and the airlock puzzle is an annoyance until you memorize the solution.

Number 1 and 2 are the exact opposite to me, I find madarame and his palace boring and maruki's anti climatic after defeating a god

I don’t agree with Madarame being worse than Kamoshida. Kamoshida SA’d a bunch of underage girls and physically abused others. He tried to blackmail Ann into sleeping with him and caused Shiho to try to unalive herself. Afaik Madarame never SA’d anyone. Psychological abuse and neglect is horrendous but SA and being a PDF file is way worse.
