What I always found fascinating about Jeong Jeong is that he was a rare case of a bender who wasn’t happy with the element he could bend, resenting fire’s wild and destructive nature, and lamenting how Waterbending provided utility in healing. How happy he’d have been to hear about the Firebending healing that was developed before Korra’s era.

@@stephanievanderboom7145 No, In beginnings part 1, when Korra loses her memory, she was healed by fire sages of bhanti tribe (the same tribe Nyahitha belonged to in Kyoshi novels) recover her memory through firebending healing.

It's interesting that there was no mention of Iroh's spiritual side or how he knew that to make a better bender without being the Avatar was to study like an Avatar and learn from the others, like how his study of waterbenders led him to develop the ability to redirect lightning.

Yes, I loved that aspect of the story. I mean, makes sense, given that the idea behind ATLA was balance. And the elements are all part and parcel with each other. But I also LOVED how this was shown on two levels, the mastery a regular bender achieves with a single element (or twoish) vs the mastery an avatar achieves. All the pre-spirit world stuff where the avatars could connect to their past lives, the creativity with which they bend everything…on a whole mother scale. It was so cool!

I think he's one of the only benders we see that bends fire without it directly touching his hands/feet/body. He just summons a giant fire wall from the ocean. The only other comparative example I can think of is when Zuko bends fire from the ground like a wave against Azula in the book 2 finale.

I'm sorry no, P'li out classes Ming'wa everyday of the week. Combustion bending is volatile, but with the exception of lavabending and bloodbending, it is the powerful offensive bending disicpline. Mingwa made tentacles out of water. I know that's underplaying it but still, P'li always has to be taken out or distracted for the heroes to get the upper hand, the battle in Zao Foo, The air temple ambush, etc.

But p’li is like a double edge sword. If she isn’t truly focused while using her combustion, she can easily be taken out or have it used against her. Ming hua is a lot more agile and versatile.

Iroh Has to be some where in the top ten list of all time best written characters in all of fiction. He's wise and deep thinking about everything in life and enriches all those who encounter him in the show and I think in the real as well.

Just to make Unalaq more of the villain he's supposed to be, remember that this guy killed the Avatar Cycle and is the reason why we never saw Aang return for seasons 3 & 4.

It was necessary for the plot. Cause if that continued there was no way any villain could ever pose a threat to the avatar since they could take their bending away. And each avatar would get stronger and stronger every cycle cause they’ll have the knowledge and experience of more past avatars

Wrong, P’Li was the strong arm of the group, she could take on a group of metal benders alone, among them included Kuvira, Lin and Suyin, and she almost won. Also, when she was knocked out in Zaofu they lost. She’s extremely versatile and agile, never underestimate her.

P'Li was definitely skilled but she had the same glaring weakness that sparky boom man did. Which ultimately caused her downfall. Her combustion bending is as much a liability as it is a skill. she has to have an unbelievable amount of awareness so as to not either get hit...or get her face covered. As strong as she was, she was definitely the weak link of the Red Lotus.

In the Avatar comics, Bumi also fought against Toph in a challenge to see who was the strongest Earthbender. Their fight ended in a draw. Meaning both of them are considered the strongest

Kind of feel like, if Iroh was around during the convergence, he would be an avatar. I don't mean the ones fused with the light spirit but his understanding of all the elements seemed like he would be able to use them all

Iroh will fuse with whom? There's no way he would fuse with Vaatu. No matter how nice Iroh is, fusing with Vaatu definitely will make someone a bad guy. Even Unalaq, he was already evil before he fused with Vatuu, Vatuu still took control of Unalaq completely, as shown that Unavatuu turned into a literal spirit, unlike Avatar who is a part spirit. So no, Iroh wouldn't become an Avatar.

Very interesting take on the Red lotus. P'li was, rightfully, considered as a prime target. She takes on multiple masters alone and does it well. Ghazan has an ability that not only changes the battlefield, but other earth benders cannot counter him. Zaheer was in training. He learned quickly, but he was not yet on the level of the others in pure bending ability. Flying unaided is exclusive, but a lot of air benders fly using various means. The Red lotus' biggest weakness seem to be arrogance, Ming-Hua being the most obvious example. P'li seem to be the least arrogant during fights, with Zaheer next in line. Ghazan overly relies on the lava when normal earth bending could do the trick. Should Unalaq as dark avatar count or should it be his abilities without merging with a powerful spirit? If the former, then he is the strongest of the Red. If not, I am very unsure where to place him. My list would probably be 1. Ghazan 2. P'li 3. Unalaq 4. Zaheer 5. Ming-Hua

This is the most accurate ranking I’ve seen. People underestimate Gazhan so much. We haven’t seen any benders do as much damage as him in seconds. Dude literally destroyed the basing se wall which fire nation with a huge army (including iroh and azula) failed to do in 100 years. He also melted the whole air temple ALONE

Now we all love uncle Iroh, myself included, but i though we were rating on power. There is no one on this list fighting with King Bumi and coming out on-top. Other than Una-Vatu, because dark-avatar. The man can throw buildings. In terms of pure earth bending i can only put him second to kyoshi.

1: Iroh and Zaheer 2: Bumi and Ghazan 3:Jeong Jeong and pli 4: Piandao and Ming-hua 5: Pakku and unalaq Pli was able to almost win against a group of metalbenders including Sue, Lin, and Kuvira. Unalaq was not that powerful offensively before merging with vattu. Ming-hua was more powerful offensively but could still be defeated by a single lightning bolt

Correct me if I'm wrong. We saw in book 1 that fire benders have relatively lesser power at night. If combustion is a form of fire bending and sparky sparky boom man is that powerful at night, imagine him on the day of Sozin's comet. Man would go around nuking cities.

Pli was put in a very cold like very cold prison to weaken her fire bending but zuko was just able to use firebending without a problem
