On today's episode of Locked on Wild, Isha Jahromi of the Sota Pod joins as we rank the top 10 free agent signings in Minnesota Wild franchise history. We start at number 10 with Alex Goligoski's initial season in Minnesota. YES it should have been a one and done, but his initial year in Minnesota was very solid. At number 9 we discuss Cam Talbot's tenure after being sought out by Bill Guerin to be the replacement for Devan Dubnyk. We move to 8 and the amazingly productive tenure for Brian Rolston, with three 30 goal seasons in a Wild sweater. At 7 we discuss Martin Havlat and his two year tenure with the Wild. We move to six where we discuss the long awaited return to Minnesota for Thomas Vanek. At number 5 we talk Eric Staal and the massive numbers he put up in Minnesota. At number 4 we discuss the extremely underrated career of Niklas Backstrom. At three we discuss the massive splash of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter and what their tenure meant for Minnesota and also the numbers they put up. At 2 we discuss Ryan Hartman and the goal scoring uptick he has enjoyed since coming to Minnesota. And at number 1 we discuss Jared Spurgeon coming in as an unsigned draft pick that turned into the Captain of the Wild. What do you think of our list? Let us know!

Great show, great memories. 46, yah, he was a steal. Taking a flyer out on an undersized D and getting that reward is solid. Love the Brian Rolston ( Mr. Slapshot on shootouts) and Thomas Vanek ( silky hands but didn’t like to play d) recollection. Backstrom could be higher as he performed so brilliantly forever it seemed. Then they added Manny Fernandez - fun stuff. Glad you guys defended Hartman, he has played well with team friendly contracts.

My top free agent signing although a UDFA Niklas Backstrom should be No.1

100% on Hartman. Most people hate on him too much. What about Nino?

I like Hartman (in a bottom 6 role)

Nino was traded for Clutterbuck, not a signing

While I understand your frustration and agree with many of your points with 20 and 11, at the time it was a big deal. July 4th was the day I became a season ticket holder and have been ever since. Agreed they didn’t perform and didn’t bring the payday, ( other than to themselves) it was an attempt to recapture the initial excitement. It was too bad they turned out to be a terrible with chemistry and leadership.

Parise and Suter should be in a discussion of the WORST free agent signings list. Mortgaged our future on two solid, but not superstar players and cemented our identity as a perennial bubble playoff team for years to come

Worst signings were parise and suter, paying them a combined total of $198 millions dollars. To only get out of the first round twice. It was embarrassing and it hurt the team because the locker room was bad. I hated those signings because we couldn’t fit a better roster with the younger guys.

Worst = Parise & Suter. Both were in their late 20s (pushin' 30) when they received matching 13-year $98,000,000 contracts. Neither were elite. They accomplished literally nothing during their time in MN. Almost every other $100M dollar man from around that era has a Cup (or 2) but not our two slappies. Suter was decent but he wasn't elite. Keep in mind, he had the luxury of, at the time, being partnered with one of the best Dmen in the league which made him look better than he was. Plus, the guy is a complete douchbag jag-off. Parise scored 30 goals for the Wild once. ONCE! $98M for a 50-point scorer 😂

Can't sign players like them and do nothing to surround them with decent players. Fans were all in favor of these signings on July 4th 2012. I was very excited myself that day.

@@ronrubiin4956 I was one of the few that was very much against it and I knew it wasn't going to work out. We had a very young core back then but there was some talent. A group of young prospects and those two slappies were brought in to be "the guys". When you pay two guys $100M there's a certain expectation for them to deliver. They didn't. Can't blame prospects for the shortcomings of what we're supposed to be "the elite", or at least they were paid like they were elite.

Them 2 basically ran the team

To bad they just couldn't have found a way just to bring in praise and left whinny pre madonna alone.
