What are some other legendary rock bands that should retire from touring? Let me know down below! (Thanks to Mikey and Laura Knotek for recommending this topic!)

I was very surprised at how quickly the band continued on touring after Charlie’s death. Almost like they took it in stride. Not sure how much longer The Stones will go on for… I’m happy to say I was able to see them live with Charlie tho.

Unfortunatpely these acts won't stop until people stop paying money to see them live. Since there aren't royalties anymore for streams (so small its not wort counting anymore), the only revenue source these bands have is live performances and merch sales. Thus the insanely high prices for both. The "crowd of a certain age" myself included, are longing for the "glory days" of when they saw these bands in their primes, and they want to relive those experiences again. It's just not physically possible anymore, because of aging. So until people simply stop spending money on these bands, this unfortunately will continue.
@TheCDGuyJZ

This is 100% true. I wish more bands had the self awareness to stop, but they won’t while the money is still green.

A great comment, exactly right, although one has too wonder if these artists are as well off as we're lead to believe if they still need the money. If it were me, I think I'd be more concerned with my reputation, but then I've always been about quality rather than quantity. I was like that as a musician and still like that now as a consumer. I just won't pay to go to a show that's not worth it. But there are a lot of stupid people that do.

Couldn't agree more! I like everyone of them but really not interested in seeing them live anymore, and that is based off the last time that I saw each one of them. One more you could have added just in case he decides to un-retire is David Lee Roth. What I would prefer is a format where you can meet them and have them sign stuff, maybe do a 3 or 4 set acoustic show or something, but mainly a Q&A type of thing. Now, you should do a video on the old bands that are still worth paying full price to see live... IRON MAIDEN for one! Keep Rockin' Johnny Z 🤘
@TheCDGuyJZ
@TheCDGuyJZ 2 года назад
Thanks man! Roth is a great pick... I'm sure he'll be back at some point. Counting down performers who still sound good is a great idea too... top 10 ageless wonders has a nice ring to it!

Call this an unpopular opinion if you will. I have a difficult time seeing musicians perform into their 60s and 70s. They aren't doing it because they love music, they are working because they need money, all while disappointing their fans. While its true that some may be worth a lot of money, without a steady cash flow, their lifestyle would evaporate. Trust me, they are not enjoying being 70 years old and riding from city to city, sleeping in hotel rooms, spending the day doing sound checks, to perform the same songs every night that made them popular 40 years ago. There is no fun in that when you are old. I love what I do for work, and I think I was good at my job. But I have managed my money well enough that when I retire in 6 years I will never strike another arc or fabricate another piece of metal. Let the young bucks do that work. In fact, I will likely sell all my equipment. I will never be as good as I was when I was younger, why bother trying. I plan to spend my time doing all the things I couldn't do while I was working. I can sleep all I want, and spend time with my kids and grand kids. These aging musicians should do the same. They will never be as good as they were in their prime. Give it up, let the new bands make the music. Go enjoy all those things they couldn't do while in the studio or out on the road.
@TheCDGuyJZ
@TheCDGuyJZ 2 года назад
The unfortunate side of musicians retiring is many of them didn't manage their money all that well back when they were younger, and now this is just a way to pay the bills.

I feel like these bands could've taken notes from Death, the original Pantera and Children of Bodom, they put out one last album and a final tour alongside it and although the way they broke up was sad they went out as a well-respected group and still seen as legendary to this day. Also I've been watching your videos for a year now.

Can't argue with this list, even though a couple of them hurt a little, lol. Purple was my first concert, (with Elf as the opener) and they have fought the good fight, but now with Steve gone... Ozzy. This needs to happen, sadly. I saw him 3 times with Sabbath, once with Jake, and once with Randy. Forty years later, it's just time. I love him, but I wouldn't pay to see him now. Then there's Kiss. I remember my friend had DTK, but it seemed over produced to me. I was all in on Alive though. Still my favorite album by them. Destroyer didn't do anything for me. I liked RARO, Love Gun had a couple good songs. I bought Alive II, but my favorite side was the studio songs. After that I left the Army. Another good episode! ☮️🤘🤙

I thought I would be defensive and try to defend the bands but then I just ended up agreeing with you. The sad thing is these bands are from my era, born in 70. As they fade, its like I am fading with them, I guess I need to realize and accept that.
@pjw5328
@pjw5328 2 года назад
For me, deciding whether I still want to pony up for tickets comes down to two things: how much of the band’s classic/best lineup is still intact, especially my favorite members of the group, and how is the vocalist holding up? Like Blue Oyster Cult is one of my favorite bands and they’re on their 50th anni tour this year, but I have no interest in it; it’s only Eric and Buck left, Eric’s voice has been gone for years, and from what I’ve seen it looks like their sets on this tour are barely an hour long. So yeah, probably another band who should think about hanging it up. OTOH I am going to see Iron Maiden next month and really looking forward to it. I think Bruce has lost a little off the top but from the clips I’ve seen of their recent shows it seems like he’s still able to compensate for it, so I’m not worried about getting my money’s worth.
@TheCDGuyJZ
@TheCDGuyJZ 2 года назад
I’m going to see Maiden live in a few months too. Can’t wait. Bruce isn’t as strong a vocalist as he used to be, but I think some of the recent clips are worse because he seems to have a cold or something. The acoustics at Rock In Rio have never been good to him either. One band I love, but wont see anymore is KISS… their performances on the End of The Road tour have been really, really rough.

You make valid points and some I agree with. But I have to say that I'm happy these bands are still touring. (Quiet Riot especially) I've been listening to all these bands and many more from the 70s to the late 80s. I've been listening to these bands since I was born, (early 2000s). And I recently just went to go see my favorite band (Quiet riot) live. and it was an unbelievable experience. Yes kevin is no long with us, but Jizzy pearl does the songs justice. I don't care what anyone says. I can't wait to go see more of these legendary bands live!

The problem we are seeing/hearing now with a lot of those 70's and 80's hardrockbands is aspecialy in the singing departement. A lot of those acts sang in very high register and just can't do that anymore, even with all of the downtuning. Take Lick It Up from KISS for excampla. Not only is their a backing track for Paul's voice, they had to downtune it significantly so he could sing it in the studio. Take away all the confetti and bombs (close your eyes) and you've got a very boring song that has no punch and power due to these adjustements.
@TheCDGuyJZ

The singer is the first to depreciate, in my opinion I think it's okay to hire a backup singer or add a voice enhancer machine. It's better to reduce the number of dates or better just replace the singer with a younger one. Just create a good studio albums, that what will make many fans happy. But that's just me, many will disagree of course.
@TheCDGuyJZ
@TheCDGuyJZ 2 года назад

@randysvynil9502 2 года назад
@@TheCDGuyJZ I agree that some classic rock bands are embarrassing themselves on stage, but some them are still producing good studio albums, I agree that Deep Purple are no longer the same decades ago, but the last "proper" studio albums "Now What", "Infinite" and "Whoosh" are good albums in my opinion and I also liked their latest covers album. I really enjoyed these studio albums. If these bands only "tours" and never released studio albums, then it's time to pack it up and retire. I just don't know about the business side of more studio time and less time on stage is profitable. 🙂

Given the option to never see my favourite band live, or see a mediocre performance from the same band, I'm going to want to see them one time, shit or not! See "Cloudy with a chance of meatballs" film where the critic re-evaluates his own situation as a reviewer. We're not (as-in not musicians or producers etc) creating anything, so lets only laude positive things in the metal community.
