My boy was diagnosed with giardia about 3 years ago and they put him on metronidazole. He was on it for about 10 days and the diarrhea did stop, but as soon as we stopped the medicine the diarrhea came back. They said to keep him on it a while longer and see, so that's what we did. As soon as I stopped it the diarrhea came back again then they told me that he could stay on it for a while. so he ultimately was on it for a few months and things just started getting worse. He was losing weight, constant diarrhea, anorexia and he ended up being in the hospital. We struggled like this for 2 years, test after test with him not getting better. He was diagnosed with IBD. They told us that he may have to stay on metronidazole for the rest of his life and be on prescription food. With doing my own research I realize that this was not in the best interest for my boy so to make a long story short I found a holistic vet who put him on Chinese herbs and changed his diet completely. He is now a new dog. Thank you so much for this video I hope that other people that are going through this will watch this because this drug will make a dog's situation so much worse and can damage their guts for life.

Hello!!! May I please inquire about what a Chinese Herbs you were told to give your baby? Or was it the holistic vet’s own personal concoction? And if so I am EXTREMELY INTERESTED in your holistic vet’s info please and/or yours to discuss this further.... I have been struggling with my baby and the lack of info out there doesn’t help!!!! Thank you so much for your time and a I hope to hear from you soon!

My dogs both have iron guts typically. For any occasional issues, I just make a paste of slippery elm bark powder and add it to their food. I usually only have to do this for two days tops. I typically just leave their diet the same.

My old Vet Pennfield Animal Hospital accidentally overprescribed metronidazole an antibiotic to my dog Cooper for 30 days. I asked him any side effects, he said no. 21 days later he couldn't walk, first vet at VCA emergency hospital in Kalamazoo told me he a back sprain. Two days later Cooper was having seizures, drooling, eye twitching and couldn't stand, I took him back to emergency hospital, second vet said he was a brain issue. I asked both emergency vets could it be toxic, they said no. I had him euthanized. Three days later my local vet called and said he overprescribed metronidazole and for too long, he said Coopers symptoms were caused by the drug reaction, he didn’t have a back sprain or brain issue. The metronidazole could have been stopped and he probably would have been okay. I've been crying for 3 weeks. I don't trust vets anymore. My best friend is gone.

My dog years ago had the mucus with blood in it. she'd be fine for a day, I'd feed her, she ate fine. Next day same thing. Doc gave me a recipe to start making her food instead of canned food thinking that might help. So I followed the recipe. Nothing changed. Ran her to the vets several times. They ran tests, said they didn't know why, maybe it was cancer. This was years ago. Now I'm thinking this was the problem. I ended up having her put down because it went on for a couple months. She lost a ton of weight. She was an older dog, 14.5 years old, just assumed the vets knew what they were talking about. It breaks my heart to think this might have been fixed by something this simple.

My little Cavalier had bloody diarrhea at 4 1/2 months and they immediately prescribed her Metro. Even tho she didn't have infection or parasites! "Preventative" they said. She didn't get better. She was having so much blood in her diarrhea that it was almost only blood and the was so much!! She didn't get better for a year and a half. They prescribed her Metro at three different points during that year and a half and those were prolonged scripts! We spent thousands on vet bills and thankfully had pet insurance. Lots of mucus, blood and soft to runny poop. After getting Metro she also started vomiting bile with some blood. I started giving her Pepto Bismol as per recommendation of vet. She didn't get better until i found other Cavalier owners recommending raw diets. She is now on home cooked diets and I have Dr Judy's book! I give her congee when her tummy is bothering her but that almost never happens. Her fur is no longer falling out and course... It's beautiful, shiny, full and I get all kinds of compliments on her soft fur. She was considered acute hemorrhagic, but they weren't even sure that was the problem. She does have chiari-like malformation and mild hydrocephalus, which i believe was adding to her stress. She did develope seizures at age two but those are completely controlled with Lyrica for pain as well. I will say with Cavaliers... They are amazing dogs but you REALLY need to do your research when purchasing your Cavalier. PLEASE do not! support irresponsible breeding! Make sure your breeder tests for all common health risks like chiari like malformation, syringomyelia, mitrial valve disease, luxating patellas, eye issues, etc... Love Dr Judy Morgan!! ❤

When my dog was about 5 months old she was prescribed by the vet various antibiotics for parasites back to back because she didn't clear it the first time (metronidazole was one of them). Her adult teeth grew with nasty ridges and stains and I will never forgive myself for setting her up with horrible teeth for life. I wish I knew of these other options.😭

Thanks. Perfect timing My husky, age 14, has always had stress pooping. Now that she’s older I’m really having difficulty keeping her poop good. She was giving that drug at least 4 times a year for various reasons in the past for years ( thank you ban…). I have tried slippery elm sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Glad to see I have options to try for her and the other 2 I have. One of which has seizures from most all chemicals now. Love all the info you give

Dr Judy thanm you for this. My dog was prescribed this and I hesitantly gave her a few doses knowing something might be missing. Fast forward a week or so later and new vet says her liver ALT numbers are very high.

My dog has suspected giardia and his poops change every other day. He's on a gastrointestinal diet and probiotics. One day his ppop is brown then the two days later yellowish brown. This goes on day after day. I'm am cleaning and picking up poop really throughly and just when I think his guts are better his poop changes again. I am panacur is a safe option if holistic fails. Still researching this.

I question everything now for animals and people but I definitely regret going with my traditional vet’s recommendations over the years. They do prescribe Flagyl like it’s the end all be all. I wish I knew this years ago because my Yorkies would be in better shape today. My young toy poodle won’t be going on this medication if I can help it. Diet and supplements are key, but vets try to tell you that Flagyl is the only solution “just in case” they are becoming dehydrated or have an infection. 🙄

Our 14 month old pup was diagnosed with giardia and was given metronidazole and panacur. 2 days after beginning the protocol, he had a seizure. We stopped the metronidazole right away. But 5 months later he had another seizure and then one month after that he had another seizure. Could those seizures still be from the metronidazole? The vets we have consulted jump right to epilepsy as the diagnosis. Any thoughts? Anyone? Thank you in advance.

Can these products be used for treating IBD instead of metronidazole? My dog has been on metronidazole twice daily now for 2 years. I want to use a natural product but, I want to make sure it's safe for daily use. I've tried taking him off metronidazole and as soon as I do the mushy poops are back. Thank you in advance.

@@judymorgan4241 Thanks for your answer, i really enjoy your videos. Im a cook,I have been interested in human nutrition for about 7 years, and in the last two years I have been improving my dog's nutrition. I wanted to share de krill oil with her, because i think that maybe its better quality that the one for dogs.

We put our cavapoo on the pumpkin and turkey diet. Major improvement in 48 hours. She has been doing it for 3 weeks now. We tried to slowly wean her off of it the 4th week and back to her dog food (Purina pro plan) and she is already back to diarrhea…. We don’t know what to do 🥲

Feed homemade. Her body is telling you what to do. There is so much information on how. Dr Judy’s pup loaf is a great way to start.
