I’m going to be real. It has been a while since I have seen someone so completely new to platformersz she controls Mario like he’s the fucking titanic and it’s hilarious
Take it from a Greybeard, the transition to 3d platforming was exactly this, except we had to use the actual N64 controller. It was not designed for human hands. You could tell who had been playing Mario64 at school, because they had calluses from from fighting Bowser. She seems to be learning much faster than I did, but I was 8 at the time, cut me some slack.
Playing a newer 3D Mario would have been a smoother transition, 64 especially does not have an intuitive camera system or a control system. It's good after you master it but there's so much awkward movements and momentum in this game.
@@harpot678 Unless you play you play with an original N64 controller, it's much harder because more modern contollers have a different dead zone in their sticks. I tried playing Switch Online games with the Pro Controller and it felt really off.
"Just because I'm an Italian doesn't mean I should play Super Mario it is not required by law" Yes it is required by law, Raora. It's up there with 'Do not break pasta', 'Do not vomit in front of Pope' and 'Do not in any circumstances use spaghetti for your Ragu alla Bolognese'
Mario 64 is like the Baptism of fire for fresh streamers. Seems everyone who played this game first impulse is to yeet the crying Penguin baby. Question is will Rarora get further than Kiara ever did?
I never knew there was a time limit for the Owl, but not only did we get to see that, she got it when she was hopelessly out in the abyss and you get this menacing "Press A to let go and fall to your death" message lololol
Same, and stuff like that is why I love watching noobs play games that I like--you get a completely different perspective! I watched the whole stream, and it was so fun watching Raora discover things and see how much fun she could have even with the janky camera. I also enjoy seeing unorthodox solutions like crawling past the Piranha Plants instead of fighting them. One of the most surprising examples I've seen (also SM64, coincidentally) is Korone abusing the hell out of crawling to go up slopes you normally wouldn't be able to traverse--looks goofy, but it can actually save your bacon in a casual playthrough. It's something that never even occurred to me, but I'm sure I'll pull it out next time I do a playthrough if I miss a red coin in the invisible cap switch stage or anything like that.
No. I think you are over exaggerating a bit. She is not good but still doing okay. She's able to understand and adjust just fine. I have seen people play worse and make the same mistakes over and over again.
I love your clipping style here. You let the moments speak for themselves and the pacing is spot on. I get that extra editing helps to be more transformative but I love this minimal style nonetheless! Subbed.
And now for something completely different. Making good progress on the Bioshock supercut but wanted to break it up a bit. (I've got about 14 hours of stream to work through after all) I cut it out for obvious time reasons but check our Raora's cover she announced during this stream here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pqqhKj6Sh-E.html Also not sure why the 4th prey vid got so much love from RU-vid but thanks to everyone who subbed, liked, etc.!
I haven't watched much Raora so finding out she did Mario 64 was really nice! Both for the funny Italian irony but also just seeing that she never played Mario games it's honestly really interesting to see her reaciton. She's such a delightful and energetic goofball lol. Thank you so much for the video!! 12:38 Actual Mario & Luigi dialogue lmfao.
For modern standards its clunky. But back then? Friggin revolutionary! Remember it didnt have any shoulders of giants to stand on. No reiterations of anything tried and true. The Mario64 camera *was* the giant.
@@Pikacha25 I mean, yes, it was absolutely revolutionary, but multiple people who played it back in the 1990s have stated that the camera was arduous to control even back then.
@@heihogreenzx4704 i definitely remember needing to get used to it, but at the same time, if you came from 2D gaming like nearly everyone else at that time, it was all you knew.
I can 100% tell lots of these simple mistakes are due to the emulator being subject to input delay. There is like a 0.2 second delay and its very off putting for genres that require precise timing. Platformers being one of those genres and kind of a staple of a large majority of this library.
First time seeing that message from the owl. I didn't know about that. Or I forgot about it. Not being able to rotate the camera while the owl carries Mario was not fun for me either.
I get to see things I never have before because of her unorthodox play style. It’s cool. Didn’t know Koopa the Quick leaped over the rolling balls like that
I’m so used to playing this game with minimal mistakes after all these years, it’s wild to see beginners have a bit of trouble on the early levels of Super Mario 64...!😅 Makes for some pretty funny reactions though!
Mario 64 shows its age compared to newer titles, but there's nothing quite like going to Bob-omb Battlefield for the first time and defeating the King to get your first star. Plus the music is really good! It's nice to see Raora enjoying such a memorable game, I hope she continues to end!
To be fair on her, she's never played a platformer before and she STARTS with the platformer to which three dimensions and a singular analogue stick was groundbreaking tech. The game has to explain a third person perspective to the player with a little man on a cloud holding a camera behind the player, that's how early we were. She's bound to handle Mario like a lead weight. I was born and bred into PS2 and later gaming and I've played a few platformers. When I played Mario 64 on a proper N64 it was FUCKING DIFFICULT to wrap my brain around the controls. She's also playing a game designed around a one analogue stick controller on a Switch, it's bound to be a slightly janky port. She handles him poorly cos the game does. It's a revolutionary title, but it's aged TERRIBLY. I feel the same way about most PS1 titles, especially fixed camera survival horror games.
