Alvin Lee shredding at Woodstock before the word shredding was even in the guitar player vocabulary.

Talent is the word! Alvin, Leo, and the boys were 50,000 miles ahead of our brains. Many great guitarists have come and gone but Alvin bested them all. That live performance at Woodstock was truly historic.

Alvin begins by announcing the song: "This is a song called I'm Going Home (by helicopter)" At this point at Woodstock, all roads were blocked. The last heli of the night was waiting.

As I said on another thread there were Artists who were bigger , more iconic than Alvin Lee and Ten Years After at Woodstock . Stars like Crosby, Stills , Nash , and Young , Jimi Hendrix, The Who etc. but this hands down was the best performance .

Some bands just have that "intangible mojo"; for lack of a more erudite description; that brings it all together. Other bands might play circles around them, but that mojo saves the day for bands like Ten Years After. Another example? Neil Young, when he's backed up by Crazy Horse.

Apparently, this jam (which was actually about ten minutes longer than is shown here...) was the closer for a two-hour set of rockin' it down. Friends of mine who were there say they have not seen a better jam to this day. Alvin Lee was one of the greatest guitarists of all time!

About 60% of this song was cut out. There is a whole medley of classic rock and blues in the middle that should be heard. That was the "going home" part of the song, going home to the roots of rock 'n Roll.

I heard a radio interview with Alvin Lee when I was a teenager in the early '70s when he was at the height of his fame. I was impressed with what a humble person he was with a self-depreciating sense of humor.

Now go and watch the whole movie. Not just a film about music but a social document. All of the performances are stellar including Country Joe and the Fish performing arguably the best anti war song ever written. Keep it up kiddo, you have a lot to listen to.

Alvin Lee was the guitarist for Ten Years After, a British Blues band of the late '60s. "I'm Going Home" was a Boogie Woogie fast blues composition of the band, which they would perform as a set climax. Ten Years After disbanded in 1975. Alvin Lee died in 2013, from complications following a surgical procedure.

Hi there! This version seems to be the short-version of the recording, as the original performance is even longer than 9 minutes - but worth every second! Sadly I had a lot ouf audio issues with your video. The music is too loud and overstearing a lot and the mic is to quietly to understand a lof of what you're saying. Please keep an eye/ear on it for the next videos, ok? Thank you in advance! :-) *cheers

Alvin Lee is in the top 🎸🎶🎵 ever❗ 1) Jeff Beck 2) Alvin Lee 3) Johnny Winters 4) Jimi Hendrix 5) Robin Trower As far as today's so called 🎶🎵 , it is NOT music....when everything is computerized, there's nothing to it ....you are NOT a musician or artist if you don't know music chords , notes or theory

This clip is unfortunately an edited version of the performance which is actually twice as long. It exhibits Alvin Lee's magnificent virtuosity and charismatic stage presence but loses some of the spontaneity of the songs dynamics in the actual buildup to the majestic, manic climax. Still, worth the effort just to see this wonderful performer.
