My father was a paediatric specialist. He handled rape cases involving children as young as a six-month-old infant. Is a three-year-old girl wearing provocative clothes? Is a 60-year-old woman dressed to excite a man? When are we going to stop victim-blaming? In the past, women didn't even wear blouses and often roamed with bare chests. Even today, many tribal communities do not cover themselves. Is it acceptable to sexually assault them? If you can't look directly at the sun, you close or cover your eyes - you don't try to cover the sun.If you are carrying a purse, is it acceptable to be robbed? As a society, we fail to educate our children on how to treat women. Laws need to be stricter, and the time to get justice in such cases should be quicker.

The problem starts at home, where children observe their parents interactions, then it worsens in school. Boys and girls are usually separated and given very less chances to talk to each other, even in coed schools. This creates less understanding and makes it seem like the other is some alien creature. Then the problem with boys worsens because of movies, serials, and comments about a girl's value, her sanskaar, her clothes, and these passerby comments saying the blame lies on her when these rapes happen. I really think this issue wouldn't have been so bad if proper gender integration was implemented in schools so children could understand that they're all the same, at least then they probably wouldn't have been so rotted inside by the sexism perpetuated by other people.
