@@phiphi2209 It's fun when they work (I think Inkshadow Yi is actually a really good skin), but most of the time they're just there to... Well... Sell. The paint demons skinline that had mostly unpopular champions was another really surprising to me, but... It's extremely mid and Rengar which is the popular champion kinda sucks there too, but Brand and Zyra are actually great there It's like Riot has an idea that they can execute really well on one or two champions, but then they just shove in either really popular champions that do nothing creative for the skinline, new champions (as release skins) that do nothing creative for the skinline, or unpopular champions that don't get nearly as much love or attention for said skinline
All I could think when I saw this was “why the hell are kaisa and Ezreal getting ANOTHER SKIN??” Lowkey we could’ve gotten a dragon neeko skin and I would be so much more hyped
I could see making that many skins for the same champs IF YOU COULD PLAY MULTIPLE SKINS IN THE SAME GAME, I HAVE 6 THRESH SKINS (almost all for free), I PICK ONE AT RANDOM EVEN THO I HAVE BOTH LEGENDARYS, NOONE NEEDS THAT MANY WHO ARE THEY SELLING THEM TO?
@@Juanlimiaualot of champs especially adc that are hot have mains with a complesive buying disorder and are obsess with a character so they need every skin on them [ i mean i get it every kog maw skin is mine ]
Riot refusing to put the dragon champions in the dragon skinline to celebrate the *year of the dragon* is not something that surprised me but it is something that angers me
one day we’ll get a kai’sa skin that actually leans into the horror/body armour aspect she was originally created with instead of hot lady with floaty shoulder things no 7
You freaking wish, Riot will never do something like this because they're too obsessed with making clean skins. If Kai'sa doesn't have a body horror aesthetic on her base skin which is her whole identity, if she didn't get a body horror skin during Bel'veth's release, she is *never* getting one like that
It's funny how league started to "Retire" old skinlines for the sake of trying to reduce cosmetic rot, but this skin review helps to show that said rot has very little to do with what skin line is becoming too tired. I will admit obviously that oversaturation is a thing, but a large part of why skinlines like project or high noon became oversaturated was because the designers assumed they didn't need to DO anything with the skin + champion concept beyond making them vaguely conform to the theme. Skins like High Noon Varus, Talon and Project Irelia, Akali or Jinx are all perfect examples of this half measure that sets a president for skins to be worse and lower effort. Champion Favoritism isn't gonna "League of Legends" or anything because no matter how low the quality bar goes, the Lux and Ezreal players are gonna keep buying the new cosmetics, even if they suck, or have better already available alternatives. This really does just make me sad because there are only so many ways you can re-invent a champion with the same concept, and seeing the repeating of the same themes on the same champions with a different coat of paint is going to be incredibly frustrating. Add on top of that, that someday we will be seeing champions like Ezreal and Lux have upwards of 30-40 skins meanwhile ornn still has less than 5 by that time, and that goes double for newer champions. This also of course to mention nothing of how all this effort into repackaging the same skin idea into the same champion takes resources away from updating old champions but that's evident. I just wish Riot wouldn't be content to settle for mid in their skins considering it's the majority of the content the game receives these days. Seeing such a large company that began so small be willing to settle for mediocrity and "Good" enough rather than even trying to push boundaries is just so saddening. Asol finally getting a legendary is cool but it was only after his unorthodox play pattern was executed and he became a popular champion with an even simpler gameplay loop. All of this just feeds into riot appeal to the lowest common denominator which is just so depressing.
@@Jan_Iedema New champions aren't immune to this phenomenon of Cosmetic rot. Kai'sa is a great example of that as she's only been around for what 4-5 years now? and yet has more skins than most champions release around and before her. The problem is the favoritism. And before anyone says it, YES I AM GOING TO CRITICIZE RIOT for making the bare minimum effort to make as much money as possible. Either spread the love to the champions who rarely get skins, or put the popular champions in unique not-done-before settings or costumes, and if you can't think of any, maybe it's time to stop making skins for them. I am confident that if Ezreal of Lux never received another skin from this point forward, that 95% of their playerbases wouldn't give a single fuck.
The fact that riot only cared about asol after he got free of that hideous old kit is saying something.. Even on reworks! Fiddlesticks had to wait 2 years for a new skin and Skarner is not even released yet despite being already "finished", but god forbid Lee sin or Ezreal can't go 2 months without a new skin If i had to guess from the concept art shown
So small company became so large, because Riot was about money from start. You just didn't noticed it simply because of small scale back then and corellation of "money" approach and "game" approach.
Its crazy that we cannot get another Christmas or any other religion theme skin but we get 5 lunar/chinese mithos skin lines and they all look the same lmao
@@UmbralScythe true and the reason lee sin got the legendary and the mythic scam is probably due to the fact that his dragon skins are extremely popular in china
Winterblessed managed to be "xmas but without the xmas in the title just so china can't yell at us" But yea 4 chinese themed skins in a row non stop is kind of... 💀
I get it's bcuz of the chinese new year but four patches in a row dedicated to china-inspired skinlines can be a lil repetitive. And it shows cuz all the dragonmancers felt lackluster (minus kassadin up to a degree) and the primal ambush suffered a bit due to the champion selection (talon x example). Heavenscale champion choices does feel a lil too redundant too. Did we needed ANOTHER chinese inspired skin for ezreal and kai sa? Thank god porcelain managed to be interesting thanks to our beloved diva dragon (cant wait to hear your thoughts on asol legendary btw!). Also the wild rift exclusive skin for asol is quite good all things considered! I got it yesterday and it's quite impressive
I thought I was the only one who noticed the blatant pandering to China and East Asians lol. Nobody ever wants to acknowledge it. It's the same for Valorant unfortunately but what else is new with Tencent/Riot?
@@CherrieJellyBeanie The main thing is tigers and the forest of south asia...but that's about it. I think this idea would've been much more better represented with other champions. Like rengar or nidalee, who are already feline champions, instead of putting riven or vi.
When there's a new Ezreal skin, Riot will say nothing, but there will be signals. Also Porcelain looks so good this year, mainly because no humans took the legendary/prestige but they redeemed the worst Kindred skin into an absolute banger.
Ah yes they "fixed" it, by making a "prestige" version that looks exactly like the original slash art that you'll have to buy instead of fixing the first original one, "fixed" lol, lmao
@@Significantharrassment It looks nothing like the original splash art, and not to mention almost every prestige skin splash art looks the same with glorified colors. if you don't like it move on idgaf! they fixed every issue I had with it. If you still got issues that's between you and Riot. I'm allowed to be happy with it.
I'm going to assume this video's editing was done BEFORE Kindred's prestige splash came out cause its eating SO MUCH. Her prestige returns her back to non-human forme and its so GOOD
I get the idea of popular champions getting into skins more often than others, it's a business at the end of the day the day but.. C'mon Riot. Swain, Shyvana and Neeko literally have he exact thing you were describing in your lore.
Anytime we get these lines, it’s no surprise that it’s one monster ish champ that’s maybe close to the appropriate year(sometimes) and then all the favorite Chinese beloved champions. We know the reason and it’s fine. Hell most of them look great but originality? Good luck
I love how you showed Porcelain Kindred just for her to get a redemption arc in that skinline with an awesome prestige skin. "Lets hope we get more like Lissandra and less like Kindred"
i just wish riot would give Rell a legendary high noon skin, a project skin to Renata glasc(legendary please), Thresh and Naafiri, and a old god or elderwood legendary to maokai... you know, the TREE champion, that ins't on a WOOD themed skinline :/ edit: Naafiri is already getting a project skin xd, and i think battlecast Maokai would be cool too.
It's hard to say Riot isn't appealing primarily to China when we get four Lunar New Year skins all designed to appeal to "popular champion XD" characters that are popular in China.
im still waiting for a dragon theme xayah and rakan, cause imagine the cape as a half-dragon wing and when the goy to base the fly together idk (completely biased as a xayah main)
Me: avid Janna enjoyer, who loves when zephyr looks cool. My prime capsule: here have this baby dragon with a terrifying looking face instead you’ll love it :) I got the event chromas for both skins (pink is my favorite color after all) in the hopes of one day owning the Janna skin, but also to make smolder look more terrifying but pink
I love Heavenscale! I saw the fanmade skins in LoL Weibo, so I hope they'll comeback next year. Also, I can't wait for the Porcelain this year. 2nd Waves looks good so far. From ASol getting a Legendary, to redeeming the worst Kindred skin with a Prestige.
I think it works well enough as a skin line (ESPECIALLY Smolder) but the simple fact we're now (as mentioned in the video) TRIPLE DIPPING INTO LEGENDARY TERRITORY that alone honestly makes me dislike the skins. All I can think when I hear "over 100 champions dont even have one" is think 'why don't they just give the unplayed champions more attention? If you buffed numbers the slightest amount to make someone like Skarner or Kled as viable as Yasuo or Lux MAYBE they'd get played more!' but we all know the real reason the top 30 are the only ones getting skins: money. Whales will gladly spend $40 for Lux's 20th skin and that knowledge saddens me.
So excited for the Aurelion Sol skin! I actually really like porcelain and my current favourite champ, who I wasn’t even expecting to get anything, is getting a legendary?! Im actually so happy :D
Honestly, fuck riot for ignoring other champions who could fit so many thematics like Galio on this one or even Udyr, the latter hurts me the most because Ink Shadow wasn't that good
An udyr skin would’ve been awesome seeing him turn into different types of dragons swith his R having wing’s. What a miss opportunity especially how popular his recently starting to be
As a kai'sa player I genuinely don't know if any of her skins change with the evolutions. Her legendary skin should have noticeable differences with the evos and the idea of her becoming more draconic in a legendary skin sounds so amazing. I'd trade the disappointment that is star guardian kai'sa for it in a heartbeat, take inkshadow too for that matter just give me a skin worth being called a legendary
kai'sa got 13 skins including two prestige, 3 tft tactitians + is the champion that is the most showcased in high quality LoLanimations when she was released 6 years ago but people will shit themselves and cry when and old champion like Lux get one skin a year
the legendary skin situation is sad to me bc some times there is a awesome tematic that a champion being part of should award him a legendary, to me for example, the most moon related champion of the game, diana, took many ''come backs'' of the bloodmoon theme to get her skin, and it wasnt legendary, kayle, THE SUN EATER, central part of the whole theme got an epic skin, not only they misfit champions into skin lines, but often they choose the legendary skin receiver wrong imo
The crazy thing about Lee Sin getting his 3rd legendary is that A) Storm Dragon is a few years old and looks significantly better an B) God Fist Lee Sin is going to be brought to modern legendary skin standards is THREE MONTHS. If I wanted a legendary dragon Lee Sin, Storm Dragon. If I wanted a legendary Immortal God Lee Sin skin with golden vfx based on Chinese mythology, would you fucking believe me if I said I have already and it’s going to look better than this mess in, once again, THREE MONTHS. Heck, if you have the specific fantasy of Legendary Golden Dragon Lee Sin, that’s fair, BUT WE HAVE IT ALREADY. Storm Dragon Lee Sin’s mythic chroma IS GOLD. Heavenscale Lee Sin is the most redundant skin in all of League because not only is it completely unoriginal, but also because it took extra resources and manpower to try to scam us worse than Soul Fighter Samira
If only there was a dragon that looked like a human someone whos from demacia and doesnt have a legendary and couldve gotten it here in a themaric that fits her perfectly
The fact that the skinline is about dragons disguised as humans and they didn't used Shyvanna is pretty infuriating, it fits perfectly the theme (not going for Asol I get, but the Wildrift would be so cool to have on Lol pc) Neeko would be a good one too, and their excuse for "She has a skinline like it already" flushs down the toilet if you look at Lee's....
Kindred's prestige skin is literally Riot taking all of the criticism and feedback from the old Porcelain Kindred and turning that into a skin. It's fucking awesome.
I really really love the Ezreal skins but completely agree there’s no damn reason he needs more skins so soon. So many other champions could have gotten a moment.
Can anyone fill me in on why he didn’t want to review Primal Ambush Skins? (besides being late). Is there some drama behind it or something controversial?
I don't understand one thing, making a third legendary for the same champion feels not only like favouritism but also like a somewhat bad move in terms of monetization. LOL doesn't get a lot of newer players, and those that have been hanging around for longer most likely already have a good skin for Champions that have a big skin catalog, and that will impact negatively their desire to get another skin for that champion. The only way this works is if the skin is of noticeably greater quality than the ones before, or the number of fanatics of those champions(that will buy any skin that character gets) is big enough...
I never got why everyone hates the Porcelain skin line. Maybe it’s because I’m Chinese and my favorite color is blue, but even if it was another color, it’d be as cool. Plus Porcelain is just a really cool concept overall
Whole thematic screams Shyvana and while I appreciate Immortal Journey, I’m pissed Lee gets another legendary when his vgu is sooner. Also Chinese TFT getting a chibi and us getting nothing is salt in the wound
Finally real dragon champion (Shyv or Asol) get a skin to make them look shiny. No, it just the ususal 20 popular champion. I do believe smolder was just a side package to this skinline. Most of the champ is human based and Smolder just "forgot" to be an excuse to be there
Dont worry, all of the problems of this line fall RIGHT into Porcelain with only one difference: The prestige and Legendary had at LEAST 1 internal meeting over to make them decent.
@@Armorion I know. I know. The only good thing in all the year was the announcement of her rework. And the, the laid off. And then, a future buff. I think for the dragon year, Shyvanita won't have any kind of love.
The sad part is that since these are all popular champions that got a skin at the start of the year, you know they’ll get another one at some point later this year. Almost guaranteed.
what if briar was the legendary, Having the idea tha she really wants to have that human interaction since she usually is allowed to parties, then messes up upon going beserk and turning back into a dragoon. changing her from a hemo-monstrosity into the wierd dragon individual they bring.
Worst part is, they probably won't explore this skinline in the future because not many people seem to like these skins. Even though I think the skinline has some real underused potential by only picking cookie-cutter champs that are easy to design skins for.
