#dragonforce #reaction Rapper FIRST time REACTION to DragonForce - Through the Fire and Flames ! WHAT THE!?!? Join this channel to get access to perks: / @blackpegasusraps
Valley of the Damned is a much better song. Only reason it's better known is because of Guitar Hero. Otherwise Valley of the Damned is their encore song.
@@deminybs I said this exact thing on a Cemetary Gates reaction...and some one actually replied "The video is way better because it gets rid of the unnecessary crap". It has been a long time since I wanted the ability to reach through the internet and strangle someone....but that comment made it resurface real quick. How can anybody be a fan of music and not want to hear the original recording...as the artist intended...I just don't get it.
@@snakebite6x6x6 generally agree with you, although i myself commited that sin. Prince - Purple Rain studio version at 8 minutes vs single/radio version at around 4 minutes. i prefer the shorter version without the long intro and everything.
The dueling guitars are absolutely the best part of this fantastic song. You have got to listen to the full 8+ minute song! This is the ABRIDGED version!
@@BlackPegasusRaps You should check out Herman Li, one of the guitarists in Dragonforce, he reviews people covering that song a fair bit among other stuff. I saw you were impressed with Van Halen and similar, the speed is spectacular if nothing else.
Fun fact I’ve trained Brazilian JiuJitsu at Roger Gracie London with Herman Li In 2007 when this song was pumping and he gave me and my friend backstage passes to their gig with Machinehead 🔥🔥🔥 Herman Li is a real one
That is a fun fact. Did you get to meet any other of the Gracies? Hoyce Gracie was one of my favorite fighters in the 90's. I may be wrong, because my memory isn't great, but didn't the Gracies compete in the first UFC?
@@Ed7501 Thanks. I know that the Gracies are to the UFC, what George Washington is to the United States. The fact that Im having a conversation with someone who, not only knows the Gracie family, but trained them, is unbelievable to me. It's like talking to a superhero.
My old friend who trained me in different styles of kung fu and judo, would lose his mind if he had the opportunity to talk to you. The fighters in that era were like superheroes to us.
We just forgetting he was already winning awards as best new metal guitarist years before this--in a different band? There were two Dragon Force albums before this one on top of that. I get the sentiment, but...
One of the hardest songs on Expert mode of Guitar Hero. So fun though! The guitarist does reactions to people playing this song! You should check it out! It’s so cool!
Yo don't remind me.. I still have trauma from trying to play it 😅.. I was a both a guitar and regular controller player (controversial I know) I mainly played guitar I used controller if I was battling a buddy head/head.. Still got my xbox 360 and still have GH 3 legends of rock.. World tour.. Warriors of rock and the Metallica edition #gamerlife
I lobed playing this on guitar hero 😊 and for some reason I was the only one who got through the whole song when I was playing with my best fiends boyfriend and his band mates. They play guitar and other instruments but I've never..so I was pretty proud of myself 😂
Yeah, absolutely want to second kevinrogers816 on request for Tina S. cover of Dragon Force Fire & Flames. The song actually sounds better when she plays it. Would probably recommend BP does some background research on the Beethoven before checking that out; also pointing out that that performance is guitar only -- no vocals. 😉😁
Just so you know the basic template of Dragonforce at this time was Power metal which was/is extremely popular in Europe, and Asia. The reason I said 'was/is' is that 20 years ago speed and melody like this song was the force behind Powermetal, and while some bands still play fast like this now, powermetal has evolved into a more mid-paced AOR sound. But bands like iron Savior, and Stormwarrior, still go heavy and fast so this sound is still out there to find.
You should check out Unleash The Archers' "Awakening (full band playthrough video)". They're a Canadian Power Metal group with Phenomenal vocals and astounding musicianship. ✌️😎
If you have not seen Tina S. a 17 year old French girl cover both guitar parts you will be blown away. Tina S covering this in a single take. Mind melting!
Little Fun Fact - Dragonforce likes to add little easter eggs into their songs - around @7:17 you can hear them mimic the Super Mario (oops Pac Man) power up sound. In their song Black Fire they sneak in the Double Dragon video game theme...
The band saw a video of Mia Asano and Ally the Piper covering this song on electric violin and bagpipes. They immediately invited both ladies to perform on stage with them!
I just asked for this a few days ago. Fuck yeah! Just wait until he finds out that 1. This is the short version of the song 2. This isn't even their fastest song anymore. After this was Fallen World, then the Game.
Nice!! Have been waiting for this one for ages!! Lol. I was lucky enough to see them live about 15 yrs ago by random. They were warming up for a "big" local rockband from my country (Volbeat) and I had no clue who they were... I was blown away and didn't care one bit about the main act that night! LOL Nice reaction as always!!
You think this is impressive, you should see Tina S's cover that she did when she was in her teens. And then check out her Beethoven cover. Even Herman Li one of the guitarists for DragonForce reacted to it. And even he was impressed.
The Final Boss Level of Guitar Hero 3 back in the day. Herman Li, when asked if they would play this live said, I'm going to have to practice a lot more 😂
Herman Lee said if you want to play as fast as him, lock yourself in a room for 10 years and never come out. BTW this is edited. It’s not the full song! Great reaction!
@4:04 This genre of music is called Powermetal, and yes, a common theme in powermetal songs tends to be stuff like fantasy/mythology, war, the unbreakable human spirit, badass shit like that. So saying that it reminds you of D&D or LotR is pretty accurate.
Dio should absolutely come to mind when hearing this music because the lyrics he wrote as part of the band Rainbow are the foundations that this entire genre of music is built on.
You got it right... "dungeons and dragons" metal is what the 'Power metal' genre of heavy metal is... Dragonforce came later in the late 90's/ 2000's and became the leaders of the genre by 2005, thanks to the video game 'Guitar Hero'... Yes, Ronnie James Dio of Dio was one of the pioneers of 'dungeons and dragons' metal in the 80's... NY metal band Manowar also founded their sound on songs about medieval battles ... swords and sorcery... when they debuted in 1982 w/ the album 'Battle Hymns'. Another founder of the 'power metal' genre was Swedish lead guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen (pronounced "ing- vey ma'am steen") who made a name for himself on the West Coast in the band Alcatrazz in the early 80's... He then formed his own band Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force in 1984 and releasing a mostly instrumental debut album, followed by a 2nd album 'Marching out' in 1985 feat lead singer Jeff Scott Soto... Yngwie J. Malmsteen recorded a number of albums w/ various lead singers and it was his shredding, fluid lead playing that made him a sensation... He still records and tours actively today. Helloween from (West) Germany made 'power metal' an commercial force when they debuted in the 80's... Their brand of high vocals, shredding guitars, double bass drumming... and lyrics about magical themes of 'dungeons and dragons' and mystical worlds made the albums 'Keeper of the Seven Keys' (Part 1 and Part 2) a success in their career in 1987/ '88. In the 90's, heavy metal had fallen out of commercial favor by 1995 and most metal bands from the 80's folded... Others kept the faith and continued to record and tour. In Europe and South America, heavy metal never fell out of flavor and power metal bands began to pop up everywhere in those regions... Germany had Gamma Ray, Iron Savior, Blind Guardian, Primal Fear, etc... Italy had Rhapsody of Fire (formerly Rhapsody)... Sweden had Hammerfall, Sabaton, Evergrey... Finland had Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, etc. Dragonforce was formed in the UK in the late 90's by guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman... they played like dual versions of Yngwie J. Malmsteen and made the band one of the fastest in the metal genre w/ original vocalist Z.P. Theart... 2 albums gained some fanfare ("Valley of the damned" in 2003 and 'Sonic firestorm' in 2004) But it was Dragonforce's 3rd album 'Inhuman rampage' in 2005 that benefitted from the video game 'Guitar Hero'... and scored a successful single 'Through the fire and the flames'... as well as 'Operation Ground & Pound'. Bassist Frederic Leclercq made his debut on the 4th Dragonforce album 'Ultra beatdown'... which was a tribute to the band's love of video games (and beer!) ... Singles included - 'Heroes of our time'... 'The last journey home'... 🤘🔥 In 2010, Dragonforce released a live album 'Twilight dementia'... They also parted ways w/ original vocalist Z.P. Theart. Despite the end of 'Guitar Hero' video game, Dragonforce returned in 2012 w/ a new 5th album 'The Power within'... debuting Marc Hudson (vocals)... and quickly followed it up w/ the 6th studio album 'Maximum overload' in 2014... Gee Anzalone (drums) replaced previous drummer Dave Mackintosh. In 2017, Dragonforce released 'Reaching into infinity'... their 7th album and the last to feature longtime keyboardist Vadim Pruzhanov, who left the band and was not replaced. Dragonforce used session keyboard players in the studio and programmed the parts for their live shows. 8th album 'Extreme power metal' was released in 2019 but the tour was canceled due to the pandemic... Alicia Vigil (bass) replaced bassist Frederic Leclercq on the tour dates and joined Dragonforce full time. In 2024, Dragonforce released 9th album 'Warp speed warriors'... and are touring on the album. Other Dragonforce songs - 'Cry thunder' ... 'Valley of the damned' ... 'My spirit will go on' ... 'Ashes of the dawn' ... 'Doomsday party'... 🤘🔥
You are absolutely correct with this not existing without Eddie Van Halen. Eddie revolutionized guitar playing and ushered in the "shred" genre which directly made bands like this
This is Power Metal! You've reacted to Sabaton before, who are part of the same genre, but belong to a newer wave of bands. You've checked out lots of legacy bands lately, if you want to see where this specific style of Power Metal was created, check out Helloweens legendary "Eagle Fly Free" (1988). There's an amazing newer live performance from their 2017 United Alive DVD, which is worth watching.
@@Rab_Knox I would, under specific circumstances for the definition of "Power Metal" (excluding usage of the term at the time, ignoring Epic Metal or counting it as a PM Subgenre as well as softer Heavy Metal, consider USPM and EUPM equal), go back as far as Dio and Manowar, maybe even counting Deep Purple ("Burn") as Proto-PM, but Motorhead is a big stretch.
Their guitarist Herman Li str3ams and does lots of reaction videos to people playing covers, esp on different instruments. Like flute. This song was in Guitar Hero 3 and was nuts to play there too
Always warms my heart when i hear dragonforce ,espacially this song ":) So many memories are connected with this tune , Grim-Total Annihilation :) The old school WoW enjoyers will understand me :) Keep up the chill work ,cheers from Bulgaria.
It's funny you said "Yoga Fire" & "Yoga Flame". Herman Li used to try emulate the sounds of older video games on the guitar and you can hear it in his solos. I met him at a Mayhem Festival when this song first came out. He was a cool dude.
The lead singer for this song (his name escapes me, the band has had several lineup changes, and I can only remember Herman and Sam, the guitarists) actually did a duet with Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman, Count Dooku, and many, many other roles) called 'The Magic of the Wizard's Dream' in the group Rhapsody of Fire. You should check it out, man. It's glorious.
Wolf Totem by The Hu is an absolute must, especially if you like something a little different. I'd recommend the original first rather than the version with Jacoby Shaddix (which I do also love too) xxx
I only recently discovered Dragonforce because of Dan Vasc's covers of their songs (love his covers, too). First thing I thought of hearing their guitar was possibly influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen. I believe Dan Vasc & Victor the Guitar Nerd included the chorus of this song in their montage "10 Power Metal Songs in 6 Minutes"...which is awesome.
Herman Li has a youtube channel. He has a lot of videos just reviewing covers of Through the Fire and Flames, complimenting and critiquing how the guitarists do. I remember there was one where he said something to the effect of "[...] I think that's better than I could've done when I was younger. Good job! This is great!" He's a joy to watch, and you should definitely check out his reactions to the covers and the covers themselves. On your own time, of course, not for the channel. Correction: I believe he uses the Dragonforce channel itself.
DragonForce is probably my biggest influence towards being a metal fan. Power metal is my favorite genre. Unleash the Archers are a good to check out as well
Dragonforce are also wellknown for interacting with their fans online (youtube, twitter, you name it), and they love to see their fans doing covers of their songs.
Fun Fact! Herman Li, the main guitarist for Dragon Force was given a copoywrite hit for playing his own song on stream. What do you do? you check out 'Black Widow of La Porte' By John 5 if you want to hear a similar style but with a very different flavour.
You should check out the drum cover of this song by Junna. I don't know how old she was at the time but she looks like a little 12 years old Japanese girl who just tears it up on another level. The Dragonforce drummer himself watched the video and loved it sayinng it was one of the best he has seen.
Haven't played the song in Guitar Hero in about 10 years. But if I listen to it and close my eyes I can still see the patterns. Dozens of hours were wasted on mastering this xD
Watch the 'Tielman Brothers', '' Rollin Rock'' video! It will also blow your mind and it will give you the idea where all those famous gitarists got their inspiration from since the late '50's and early '60's and so on.
Nope you're not tripping. They're all about Fantasy driven themes in their music. Herman Li and Sam Totman are absolute beasts on guitar but for me the vocals and harmonies are what makes them so good. My inner nerd and D&D lover found a band that provides a soundtrack for those things. They're from England and have been around for a while. You should also check out similar bands such as Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Rhapsody of Fire, to name a few. Europe has a lot of bands like these. Power Metal and Symphonic Metal is huge across the pond.
2 things, 1, this is a genre called power metal. Dio was one of the inspirations/grandfather of power metal. 2. This is the single version of this song, the album version is much longer. Bonus. If you are going to go down the power metal rabbit hole, check out Rhapsody of Fire - Emerald Sword. They are an Italian power metal band.
You really should listen to the full version. This is an edited version due to the length a video could be for TV. Meatloaf's "I'll Do Anything for Love" is also that way, heavily cut down for the video
Fantasy and Metal go hand in hand, there’s even a metal band with the lord of the rings actor Christopher Lee doing this dark fantasy narration but they’ve been doing it since metal started before fantasy was even common in movies compared to books. It’s meant to be Epic, in the ‘grand tales of old’ style epicness. And yeah these dudes are virtuosos, calling out Van Halen was also on point.
Also I think Unleash The Archers- Awakening is sort of a spiritual successor to this. A male and female singer and all band members crushes it both individually and together. A very popular song in the reaction community, but it would be great to hear your thoughts on it.
17 years ago, this makes me feel old. Guitar hero 3 made this song famous. Just know the music video is the shortened version of the song. it cuts out quite a bit of the guitar work.
Dungeons and Dragons rock is a great description. They're definitely gamers^^ I never even knew there was a music video. I think I only ever have seen live renditions and covers.
You should watch Junna's drum covers of this song and the DragonForce song Ashes of the dawn. Gives a good Idea of how fast the drummer is playing as well. These guys are insane!
