The thing about this song is it was SO overplayed on the radio in the early 2000s, that even people who liked it eventually hated it. This is the same thing that happened with bands like Creed and Nickelback. It's not that they were bad, they were just forced upon you every 20-30 minutes by one platform or another. But once you've gone a decade or so without hearing them, and your wounds have healed, you start to appreciate those songs again. This is a great song. It was just mainstream doing what it does and ruining a good thing.
Hoobastank and Incubus grew up in Agoura Hills and Calabasas CA. and Mike Einziger took their demo and helped them get signed and they also toured a lot together.
Saw Incubus and hoobastank in Roanoke va as my first cincertt ever, hoobastank had just released so before this album came out. Drive was the encore song
I cry every time I hear this song. It was one of my best friend's and my favorites right before she died in a car accident. And everywhere I went that day this song was playing.
It is ironic and sad. Thank you so much. She left behind a 4 year old daughter who is grown now. It's been awhile and it's still hard. Since that moment I've lost both grandparents, both of my parents, my step dad, my aunt and uncle. Then recently my best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. So keep me in your prayers.
Same, but in the other direction, I suspect. If this were a "we just met" song, it would be amazing. It's definitely catchy, and the singer can sing. But the lyrics in the verse always gave me the impression that he cheated on her and is trying to win her back. If she's the reason he needed in order to turn his life around, why'd he do whatever things (yes, plural) that hurt her so much. I know relationships aren't all perfect, but this always came across to me as being too excessive for him not to have done something really, really awful to her.
omg I still love this song even though haven't heard it in forever....it still gets me in the feels....react to the video above Avril Lavigne....people used to & still do sometimes bash Creed like they do Nickelback but the lyrics in their songs are deep....give them another chance....'With Arms Wide Open' & 'Higher' & 'Rain' are good songs that uplift since you've been listening to sad songs....yes Hoobastank its early 2000's....I love 'Drive' from Incubus
There's a music video for their song Same Direction. There's two music videos, but one which is a sequel to The Reason. Its called "Same Direction (The Sequel)." Different style to this but an awesome song and one of my favourites of theirs with great lyrics.
I would love for you to react to the song "Rise above this by Seether" It is about shaun morgan's (the singer) brother eugene who committed suicide and the song is just so beautiful.
The fact that you loved this song and made the link to Incubus made me smile 😀 the crazy thing is that the lead singer of both bands are related and grew up together ... Cousin love and the toured together back when they first came out
Did you not listen to succeeding albums and just listen to the radio? Some of these bands had great sophomore albums and beyond. The creed song he mentioned that he listened to wasn't even off of their first album. As an example, they had multiple hit songs on at least three albums. The poppier stuff, sure, a bunch of one-offs. Maybe a second song here and there...but radio-played out and done for them. But many of the real bands built decent catalogues.
Simple plan- perfect !!! If you like this, bands like Simple plan, Incubus, Sum 41 and Good Charlotte are worth checking out because their all similar plus it's all the same time period in rock radio hits
Incubus like you mentioned is a Stellar choice of a band like this. They have a live set that showcases that the singer is insanely talented. Sounds better live than on the recording.
Hoobastank are Incubus little brother because they captured nearly the same sound when they came out. Lots of killer songs from both bands that were on the radio a ton starting 20-25+ years ago.
Incubus, the interstellar band, is FULL of really incredible, lyrical and always relevant music. Such a classic and influential rock band now. All of their Morning View album is a forever playlist but only the tip of their ice berg. Would LOVE to see some incubus over here
There’s a SICk Live video of Creed in the early days doing their song “What If” in a Practice session at a concert before the actual show and no one is there. To understand how hard a song goes, you need to watch that. It’s Truly Epic!
I really loved this music video and song but it was like clockwork every hour rotation on MTV's music video block in the morning before school and now that it's slowly dwindled from the conciousness, I can finally reappreciate it again and I'm kinda grateful.
On the topic of ultra cool videos..... One of the MOST creative and beautiful videos I have ever seen is "Gravity" by Sara Bareilles. Whoever conceived of that video should win an award.
I had to look it up because I always wondered. "Hoobastank" is a mispronouncing of a german word that basically means "sneakerhead". The singer came on an interview just before this song came out that said "basically we own a lot of shoes".
My ex bought this album and played it all the way on a road trip to Oregon for this song - he was cheating on me, and I think this was his goodbye. I'm happily married now, but this song still hits me.
My comment is not about this video, but I think a rabbit hole you may find worth jumping into is The Tesky Brothers. I just heard them for the first time a couple days ago, and I was completely blown away. Rain is a great song. Love Her With a Feeling is another great one. I think you'll really like them. Otis Redding fans absolutely love them. Check it out.
Watched an interview with the band a long time ago. Interviewer asked about their name. Apparently they were sitting around trying to think of a name. Hoobastank came up. They started using it. Then...The Reason. Singer said they'd regretted it since bc it was a stupid name. Lol
This song is considered alternative rock, although I'm not sure what makes something "alternative" vs just "rock"... just a certain vibe I guess. This song used to be on the radio constantly, but I've never seen the video. Wow, like watching a movie. I love his voice. You might check out a song called "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer, it's just a sweet, simple love song.. so beautiful.. Leigh Nash is the vocalist, she has such a beautiful voice and the song is, to me, perfect. Not show offy, or "wow listen to those runs..".. or "wow, listen to that guitar solo".. but just a beautiful song,if that makes sense. It doesn't have a Vemo, but the video for it is on Sixpence None the Richer's y t page... PS there is a video clip of Leigh telling David Letterman how they got their band name which is really awesome... ❤
Hi there BP, they are deem as one-hit wonder, cause other songs of them didn't resonated in the charts, but this one. Bro look at band call "Yes" song "Owner of lonely heart" 1983 video, no live performance. Its dope, word. Respect and stay strong.
Owner of a Lonely Heart is a great song but wow ,YES was playing on my stereo when I was a teen...I'm 72 now! Was a fan when people all over the States hadn't heard of them yet...their stuff just got played on obscure college radio stations...
@@mariajobson739 It's one of my mother lifetime favourites and she is 67 and im 45 so i grew with Yes music, but this one was my motor on University to graduate and be better in life. PD. my mother lived in New Orleans in her teens, so music vibrates in her.
"I know Cold Play right?" I have been to quite a few concerts in my days including a few big stadium performances of some of my favorites like AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Prince. I saw Cold Play with my son at the Atlanta Stadium in June of 2022. I literally had trouble standing up because the energy in the building, even with the roof retracted, was so epic! If that is the last concert I ever see, I feel like I saved the best for last. "Fix You" is probably my favorite Cold Play song if you would like a starting point.
This song had a great vibe when I first heard it. It's been on my "playlist" for nearly 20 years. I probably downloaded it the same time I did Boulevard of Broken Dreams from Green Day and 100 Years from Five For Fighting.
Falling in Reverse came out with an extreme hard rock song called Ronald. It is so extreme you need to have the CC clicked if you want to know what he is saying 🤣
@@humeyboy what? He was trying to remember who sings the song Interstellar. And then he said he thinks it's Incubus. So I said the group is in fact Incubus. Because Incubus in fact does sing Interstellar. I never implied that Hoobastank is Incubus because Incubus is far better than Hoobastank and they are nothing alike if you ask me.
This song came out on Released on January 26, 2004. The other band you are thinking of is Incubus. Also an amazing band with a phenomenal singer & lyrics. Interstellar love song is one of my fav from them as well. This song is 1000% on the forever playlist. I'm not a Hoobastank fan but i LOVE this song. It's simple yet deep & very melodic if you listen to all the production elements.
You should watch the video for their song 'Same Direction'. It was set as both the prequel and the sequel to "The Reason' video. Better to understand what happened.
"Stellar" by Incubus is what you're thinking of. That's an awesome song. Would be sick to see you react to it again after all this time on the channel!
Black Pegasus, pleased to meet you, again, i didnt ever say it before but ive been a musician for the past 29 years and i just wanted to suggest a band that never didnt make it....and they have a few songs on youtube and one i definately suggest is a song called Joining a Fanclub, please check it out......
I saw Hoobastank like two years ago when I was stationed in Hawaii they did a show for us on base at Pearl Harbor. It was actually sick. Crawling in the Dark is a banger!
Incubus and Hoobastank are from the same home town. They are all friends. Incubus kind of put them on. You will like every song in Incubus’s catalog too. Pardon me and Drive are both fire.
