She is also a very suave business woman no one wanted to sign her under their record label so she created her own Blackheart Records. And she just took ofg.
Fun fact, Joan Jett went to a man to teach her about playing the guitar. She was told that Girls Don't Make It In Music. The rock industry. She wasn't comfortable singing and had no desire to sing originally. She wanted to play the guitar. Due to losing band mates in her original band The Runaways she was basically elected to sing . You should check out Cherry Bomb by The Runaways with Joan Jett and Lita Ford. Both Joan and Lita had started their own solo career by the early 1980s. Hope this helps
If you want to REALLY reach back, you should check out her previous band called The Runaways. Joan Jett (turned solo), Lita Ford (turned solo), Michael Steel (joined The Bangles, plays bass), Cherie Currie (keyboard, unknown)
Joan Jett and Lita Ford where in the Runaways in the late 70s, early 80s. They were one of the first, most famous all female Rock Bands. So yeah they inspired a generation of Badass Rock N Roll Females. Joan was the OG. She didn't just inspire most of the female rockers in the 80s she inspired the male ones to. Hair Metal kind of came from her.
I love Joan Jett in this video. she is one of the greatest rockers, male or female. I wonder how many of your followers have seen the movie with her and Michael J Fox called "Light of Day." Decent movie, they pay brother and sister.
Joan Jett was the only woman competing with the male controlled rock scene of the eighties. She started out in the seventies with on all girl band “The Runaways”.
Joan was in an all girl teenage band called The Runaways! A popular song was Cherry Bomb!🍒For another female badass, her bandmate Lita Ford also had success with a duet with Ozzy called, If I Close My Eyes Forever. She also has an amazing, fast paced title called Can’t Catch Me!🎸🎤🔥
Hey I think this one came out in the late 80's around 88 or 89. Got married in 89 and the song was out then. You are right about the duality of her softness of her face and the hard rock vibe of her cloths. Love it.
Joan Jett is still out there rocking in her older age, just like her 70's bandmate, Lita Ford, both from the Runaways. Check out Runaways song Cherry Bomb.
She is one of my idols! I was in a rock band in high school because of her! She f****** rocks! And this is my favorite song of hers. Absolutely 100%!!! If you're not familiar with her earlier, work with The Runaways you need to check them girls out! 🔥 Inspiration for many generations of female rockers to follow!💜
This is the song that they play before every Sunday Night Football game (with different football-esque lyrics). Carrie Underwood always performs it, and, trust me, she always looks and sings great!
This was 1988. Damn, I thought it was older. I swear I remember hearing it in high school. She was in the 1987 movie "Light of Day" with Michael J. Fox. I remember liking it but couldn't tell you a damn thing about it.
I remember that Michael played the guitar, Joan was a rocker and love interest and that it wasn't bad, but only really worth watching because she was in it.
Another great Joan Jett song. You should still check out Joan and Lita Ford in the Runaways and the song Cherry Bomb from 1976. All the girls are 16 and 17
The music industry didn't want to sign her in the late 70's, said she wasn't worth it. She gave them the finger started her own label and the rest is history. Saw her twice in the 80's and she rocked the places.
A genuine BA!!!!!❤ Nowadays they give you manufactured ish and call you names for not buying into their packaged garbage. Her attitude and delivery is everything
Joan is amazing and I'm always going to show up for reactions to her! This video would have been in the 80s though. ❤ She had a huge impact on women in Rock!!!
There's alot more to Joan than just being pretty!! Why is that the first thing you always say about a female artist?? Oh she's pretty, do you think we can't see her? You're supposed to react to the music, not females looks. Yes, she's a great businesswoman and a great rocker!!
Next check out Lizzy Hale of Halestorm!! I Miss The Misery, then The Steeple, then her DUET WITH AMY LEE!! Lizzy is an incredibly talented singer. I just saw her live for the 2nd time and she has some AMAZING PIPES. You'll really dig her. Plus, she's pretty 😂❤
Her songs are all no nonsense, in your face rock and roll. She has a LOT of good songs. I particularly love Bad Reputation, Roadrunner, and Cherry Bomb (which she originally did when she was in The Runaways), but they're all good.
If the song sounds familiar, Carrie Underwood coveted theme song, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night." It's a reworked version of the Joan Jett song "I Hate Myself for Loving You." (1988)
The hook does exactly what a hook should do. Once you hear it you will never forget it. All you need to hear is the beat and it will come to you in seconds
This all goes back to the RUNAWAYS. Joan and Lita Ford were in that band as kids, they made a movie about it. They weren't all that good but still, you should check out their live performance of Cherry Bomb. If you want to see a hard hitting female rocker check out Halestorm fronted by Lizzy Hale. My favorite song of theirs is Poison.
I followed all of her US career back in the day & it’s amazing all the stuff she’s done. Little Dummer Boy was cool. I hate Christmas music because of 15 years of working in record stores back in the day. Not only did I have to deal with awful customers that time of year, I had to listen to thousands of hours of music that rapidly began to drive me nuts. I was VERY thankful when I liked the artist. 😂💜
I fell in love w/ her at 7yrs old, got the "I Love Rock & Roll" 45 record, wore that out on my crappy turn table I had🤘😆 This track came out in the late 80s I believe 88/89. Like someone in the comments, check out the Runaways...40!
Gotta believe this is the 80s. You didn’t find women named Joan in the 90s anymore. The thumbnail for this video is “Bad Reputation”. I suppose that’s the album cover, but it is also the title of her song which is basically an F-You to the record labels who said women shouldn’t rock. Yes, she’s a pioneer in the women’s rock movement, along with Pat Benatar. (Another recommendation for you is Pat Benatar’s “Hell is for Children”. A deep meaning around that one, but I’ll let you discover it for yourself).
If you're really interested in ladies that rock and contemporary. Here are 3 suggestions. Lovebites - Holy War (live) from Japan, The Warning - Evolve (MTV VMA 2023) from Mexico, and Band Maid - Hate (live) from Japan. Enjoy these amazing ladies 🔥🔥🔥
Joan Jett also does a really good cover of AC/DC’s Dirty Deeds. She puts her own spin on it of course. There’s a video on RU-vid - you should check it out.
Joan produced an album for one of music heroes, and there's a video featuring her and Elle King from that Album, the hero was Wanda Jackson and is called Two Shots, worth a listen
All us guys had a crush on her and she had a crush on our girlfriends...,meh...all works out somehow..she is still cool and hot..still herself..love her still. ❤🖤🖤
