This is an old Song originally done by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Shinedowns guitarist, Jason Todd, is married to Melody VanZant, the daughter of Ronnie VanZant, the original lead singer of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Omg...finally! You can not react to this without reacting to Lynyrd Skynyrd's OG version! Absolutely love Shinedown too....Brent is something else! You could react to Shinedown for weeks and never miss. This song was played at my Dad's funeral....he was killed when I was 5....it's special to me regardless of which version it is. Thanks for this.
Lynrd Skynrd put this out 40+ years ago. It's the best life advice you'll ever get. I told my son 25 years ago that if I could ever give him any insight for life, that I could not do any better than these lyrics. So anytime he hears this song, he hears me and thinks of me - so he tells me.

@@pamcrumpler9169 he didn’t die. He still performs today. Some of the original members died but the front man is still going. He performed simple man in concert recently and bought Brent on stage. It’s on RU-vid I watched it a few days ago 😊 🙌🏻

Finally doing some Shinedown! This band is amazing, some other great songs (and they have many) are .45, Monsters, and so many more. One of my top 10 singers ever.
I saw them in concert w/breaking benjamin and Nothing More (met them!) and it was so amazing! They are what I would call...very aware...and also brought the whole audience together...it was truly an amazing performance. I was kind've into them before then but after that, I was a fan for life!

Shinedown is one of the best bands out there. So many songs with a powerful message. This is a tribute to lynard skynard who wrote the song. A lot of history between the two bands. They actually have a song about being cancelled. Planet Zero. Came out around the pandemic. You should check it out. His voice is the same live. Seen them 3 times.

The original version was great and I played it til the vinyl scratched out as a kid. And it was a decade old song then. But when I heard Shinedown’s version it gave me goosebumps. Dudes got pipes and this was a perfect platform for him to let that shit fly. He took the song to where it needed to be. Definitely my favorite rendition of a monster classic.
my mom loved the Skynard version and wrote it in my baby book. I've always welled up at least a little anytime I hear this song. I saw Shinedown in 2005 at a single day festival in Texas in the summer. no shade except in the bathrooms that had no ac. they ran out of water. This mfk'er single handedly sang life back into a crowd that was just trying to not melt or spontaneously combust from the heat. before that, I knew what a front man was supposed to be in theory, but this dudes singling chops, along with his ability to Rizz the crowd, he made me understand. I didn't even really like their music but i still went out of my way to see them like two more times over the next few years.

99% of Shinedown's music addresses mental health (including addiction) and injustice. The list of "what is next" is MASSIVE. Yes, they are as good live as they are in the studio. There's a whole concert series that was a "storytellers" show. Brent would give the backstories on the songs. What a Shame, 45, Burning Bright, Save Me, Beyond the Sun if you are going back in time. And you should go back in time and move forward. You will understand why Shinedown Nation exists.

He sounds this good live. I’ve seen them 3 times starting in 2000 when they were opening for 3 Doors Down. Bought every album released by them since then. Stole the show and blew me away. 45 and Burning Bright off their first album are 🔥.

Mom told us, after my younger brother took his life, that this song always made her think of him. He was an HVAC tech, didn't have fancy things, but was a man that would help anyone that needed something. We played the original by Lynyrd Skynyrd at his funeral. Rest in Rock 🤘🏻Yacob!
This song never fails to choke me up!! Shinedown was my first concert I ever went to (they opened for 3 Doors Down along with Seether) and they were amazing live! I was engaged at one point and this song was going to be my fiance's dance with his mom (though it would have been the original Lynyrd Skynyrd version). Now I have a son of my own and it hits even more so. Such a good song.

My son played this at his wedding and I instantly broke into tears because I knew right away it was for the Mother/Son dance. It's always been a special song for me and my boys. As a parent, this is all you want for your grown sons, at least I do!
Original song by Lynyrd Skynyrd but oh man Brent from Shinedown ( lead singer ) is still this great - he sang with oliver Anthony at a festival last couple of yrs - I think it was held in NC - his voice is still amazing amazing 😢💚💚 Brent doesn’t have hair like that now but the voice is still amazing but no Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote it- special song between me and my brother / This song led my brother to become a southern rock drum player ( self taught ) and singer but he unfortunately passed in a car accident in 1991 at age 24 ( my only sibling ) The last thing I gave him was my albums when I got married and was leaving home . 😢

Shinedown is great. .45 is an amazing song. The Crow and the Butterfly is my favorite song of theirs though. I saw the original Skynyrd when I was very young. I have seen them several times since. Still one of the greatest bands of all time.

You have your work cut out for you with this band. Thoughtful deep introspective lyrics, great musical composition from a band that has about 30 years under their belt. And they a AMAZING live!

@@ThroughGreyEyes this is 20 years ago and there isn’t the full band members who are shinedown today. Not long after this song/ album Brent and Barry( drummer) were joined by Zach and Eric and that’s when the magic really really happened. Brent has a couple of times where his demons took hold and those boys took all the crap from him and just loved him harder. Hence why they still share a tour bus today and they tour more than they’re at home. Infact Brent doesn’t have a house he lives in hotels and stays at his son’s mums house for holidays. Anyway I’ve geeked out enough on the boys now. Haha 😝 xxx
This band is phenomenal live and currently tour. They put on a great show and sound even better live. You should react to their songs "Monster" and "45." I'm sure everyone has already told you that this is actually a remake of Lynyrd Skynyrd's song and it was their first release. Now they all have short hair...lol.

Zach plays many instruments and has an amazing voice as well. They have a separate acoustic duo gig called Smith and Myers it really show cases both their vocals.
BP welcome to Shinedown my friend. Simple Man was from their first album in 2004. You should check out either Monsters, Pyro, or Planet Zero to see how thier sound has only gotten better over the last 20 years. His voice live is actually better live than recorded.

Love this song, both this version, and the original by Lynard Skynard (my favorite story about that band is how they chose the band name…apparently Leonard Skinner was a highschool principal who told some of the band members that if they didn’t forget about becoming rockstars, and buckle down on schoolwork instead, that they’d never amount to anything)
