Remembered for when a bunch of kids that know little of the actual conflict decided to break a bunch of laws on college campuses that didn’t actually do anything?
I don't think people understand the statement Being a guest isn't a bad thing. It just means that you recognize that rap and hip-hop was a black born genre and has great cultural significance in black culture, so white rappers are invited so long as they are respectful to the art form and to the culture they are taking part in. It doesn't mean "you don't belong here" at all. It just means what I said, and that they're not the face of rap.
As nice as this sounds, you can question if this is really an attitude 'we' should be taking. Wouldn't that mean that all black and asian people are then for ever guests in the Metal genre and culture? Or that non-white people always going to be only guests in Europe?
@@redtailarts101, that is because whiteness is not a cultural unity. Neither is blackness obviously, what you are confusing for a united blackness is a generalisation of African-American with a past in slavery. And even there I would say that there is much more diversity between African-American cultures. Rap comes specifically from urban, impoverished, segregated communities. Those were not all black people, that does not involve all black people, nor is it representative of blackness. Metal was conceived and developed by white people, rap was conceived and developed by black people. In what way do either represent or tie to the people that did not conceive, develop, or explore it?
@@JiwanKoPani incorrect, Metal was created by black musicians from Detroit, but then colonized by white musicians from the UK who had no idea that the records that inspired them were black bands from Midwestern America. June Is Black Music Month, perhaps use this as an opportunity to learn some history about Black Music…
@@river718, look, fundamentally music has and is a collaborative effort. Where do you think the guitar, bass guitar, drums, and chords come from? And who developed metal after the 1960's? I would suggest you look at music generally as a collaborative human endeavour. I am not arguing that it is a white thing, I am arguing that claiming music (and culture in general) for a racial group is deeply racist and based on lies. Firstly the lie that a practice (musical or otherwise) by a subculture represents a group as broad as a race. But secondly, that a racial group means anything at all. Because it does not, it is statistically irrelevant, and predicts very little in the areas of culture, genetics, personal preferences, IQ, athletic ability, and really anything else. So black history and black music history feels a little weird to me. Because it is all just part of human history. And the "black (music) history" you are referring to is probably only American national history, isn't it? Does what I am trying to say make sense to you?
it’s crazy how no matter this guy succeeds, ben will always be humble and remain loyal to the culture and its origins. he’s been preaching about this for years and years and hasn’t changed a bit
Big Big RESPECT to my Bro In Humanity Mister Macklemore who is such humble sincere and TRUE. Thank you for standing UP for #Palestine who is victim of a TERRIBLE GENOCIDE right now! Allah bless you my brother 🤲🏻❤️ #JusticeForThePalestiniansNOW #NetanyahuUnderArrestNOW
❤ I heard a clear and an eloquent admission. I raised my open hand up and then closed it over my black heart.❤ Thank you, Macklemore. Im sharing this!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
We Love you Macklemore and we support you you have done an amazing job in time where everyone around you is a coward you showed you have guts to stand up for what's right ❤
As a fan of rock music, I wish rock bands would recognize that they are fundamentally guests as well. Doesn’t make the big names of rock any less important, but it recognizes who we fundamentally owe all great rock (and, clearly, metal/rockabilly/country/punk etc) music to.
Hind made me realize how great of an artist he is omg the honorable things he's done and the truth he speaks is so venerable and I love it from your Pali friend
Even though you’re literally speaking gibberish almost throughout the whole entire video it’s Incredible, truly impeccable how ur voice is just so naturally calming to listen to and just to vibe with. We fr need more people like u in the world cause often times people are so self centered and raise their voice to demand authority or respect. But it’s so unnecessary to be that forceful when you can be cool, calm and collective when speaking. Not only people will trust you more because of that but, people will respect you more for not blowing things out of proportion all the time by raising the tone in your voice all the time. By you demonstrating mindfulness, self control and staying reserved in these videos shows how truly genuine of a soul and a person you are. How much you truly care, which is evident even though you’re taking vacation and still giving us content every week. Your definitely a real one Mari, keep smiling and doing what you do cause you look good when you do and enjoy the rest of your vacation. mb for the long response yet again 😭 stay blessed 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I’ve been playing Downtown on repeat as one of my ADHD bangers lately. At one point I thought to myself that I didn’t want to go to the internet to learn more about Macklemore because what if I was yet again faced with a separate the artist from the art issue. Love seeing this in my feed shining a big ol green light!
