Ddaeng is an onomatopoeia of wrong. But RM used Ddaeng in seven different ways in his verse but In Jhope’s verse means like this: “Hiphop? Wrong. Rapstyle? Wrong. Just rapper? Wrong. Bangtan? Wrong.” It explaining how everyone criticize their move whether they do hiphop, becoming an another rapper, or becoming an idol, it’s just all wrong in eveyone’s eyes. “But in reality? Bang. Worldwide? Bang. Chart? Bang” Meaning: we’re banger, we’re worldwide, we kill it on the charts. It’s just a snippet of how much of a diss track this is. BTS don’t need to swear to make a whole diss track. They’re genius. All of them wrote their own verses and Suga produced it. Also, Rm is stuttering in purpose. Basically he’s stuttering because the haters that kept hating on them saw that BTS got huge so trying apologize to them about how “sorry” they were being rude and hating on them. Those number (1-8, 1-3, 3-8) they keep spitting out are the best card combos in Korean card game Hwate. Representing three of them. Best combo… If you were confused about the instruments, There are 3 Korean traditional instruments: Haegeum (fiddle like with 2 strings played with bow) Gayageum (large string instrument) Daegeum or Soguem (flute) Even the production and instruments used in this, are a diss to all those who said BTS getting more westernized. Your breakdowns are always on point! Thanks for the reaction.
@@jungcookies3530 BTS actually plays on all its meaning in both Korean and English in this song. Its a word play. I literally said “RM uses Ddaeng in 7 different ways or meanings.
@@jungcookies3530 my name is literally just my initials and the console I play on , I can’t tell what their name specifically means but there’s a chance it means if you don’t have Kpop in your life you don’t have one
RM stuttering verse it's him mocking the haters that came back to them apologizing and asking for forgiveness and pretending to like them... After BTS became successfull. He did the haters stuttering cause it means that they were apologizing like being forced... Being fake 🔥🔥😎💜 I'm surprised Knox didn't even noticed the Stuttering 😂😂
@@elisroom9506back in 2014, this is his lyrics : "They call me a monster, I’ve never called myself that You all are completely made of glass, much better than the basement dungeon If skill equals to looks, I’m Won Bin in front of a bulletproof glass" but RM said he know about this at mama 2014 interview.
3:00 When you said you saw Agust D do this - blending traditional and contemporary music - you were on to something. Ddaeng is produced by the same but not same fella, Suga. :)
Suga and his friend El Capitxn who went by the name J Pearl back at the time (2018) He seems to have come into the BigHit fold with this Ddaeng song and he appears to have co written and co produced multiple songs with Suga and the Suchwita subtitles described him as Suga's best friend. Suga hosted him in the last episode of Suchwita before his enlistment. There is also a radio interview with himself and Suga.😊
Sir, telling us that Namjoon was so close to the mic that you could hear him licking his lips was not a good idea. This will now stay ingrained in my mind forever and idk what to do with it...you have doomed all of us
Knox you did this justice! Ddaeng can be difficult as it is centered primarily on cultural idioms/metaphors, and so many of the words can have numerous translations and pronunciations. But thank you for looking into it beforehand. Suga/Agust D is the main producer on this track and the way it’s a diss track while also lighthearted is so smooth. Army if you like Knox’s reactions, make sure to support him where you can, stream his music etc… He’s such a talented artist!
BTS solo songs you should react to : - The Last (by Agust D) - Interlude : Shadow (by Suga) - First love (by Suga) - Persona (by RM) - Boy meets evil (by J-hope) - Airplane (by J-hope)
Oh Knox this was fantastic! I’m glad you made time to do the research before too. The only ‘Ddaeng’ missed was the children’s game of tag. You have to say ‘Ddaeng’ to unfreeze them. And also RM stuttering had its own meaning but that’s not explained in DKDKTV. I would definitely recommend doolset or muish for a more in depth exploration to anyone interested, but I’m so so glad you liked it! They really are very talented and thanks to you, more people get to see it! Thank you!!
Yep. The song's (english) verse is: "Hold up for a second and freeze. Ddaeng.", referring to the tag game. And there's a (Run BTS?) video of BTS playing the game, as well.
"Look in the mirror, there's your hater" I love that line. Also, I really like that you did your research but didn't accidentally turn this video into a recap of what you learned. We still got a lot of your own thoughts to the instrumentals and lyrics, which is what we're here for :D
There is a video where rap line works on post-production for this song, they discuss which sounds to add/remove etc. Maybe it will be interesting for you to watch. I'll leave the link in the reply
when you said you saw AGUST D did the mix of traditional instruments... actually it's him again who produce this song lol and the switch up of the beat that he did on RM's verse was everything, he made it more attractive with RM flow...it's one of my favorite songs..
@@ami2017angel they are talking about beat. RM has nothing to do with it, as he is not producer/co-producer of this song. SUGA on the other hand is not just co-producer, he is main producer
Yes and no. MMA and MAMA videos *can* get blocked. Though, it's pretty easy to get around those, such as: - Blocking/Censoring the network logo - Mirroring the screen - Pausing/interrupting the video at intervals, generally every 3-5 minutes for 5-10 sec - Putting the video/audio through a filter They don't block or strike everyone, but it can happen. For lives, best ones to look at are ones by BigHit, BangtanBombs, FanCams, etc. As long as it's not directly from the network.
yoongi really loves traditional korean and hiphop fusion. ddaeng and daechwita are examples. he does that a lot. he's the primary producer of this and ofc together with the rapline.
Who dislikes before watching it fully! You haters have Knox living rent free in your minds 😉 Man I’m excited for this dude 🔥 Edit - Thanks for the likes guys! I thought I should add that the whole point of this song is to throw you off from realising you’re actually being dissed. So to any ignorance in the comments about BTS not being rap/hiphop/good lyricists etc, Ddaeng is just for you 🙏
this is why I love your channel, the way you breakdown the songs, lyrics, observing the mvs, symbolism, the little beats and instruments, you're so clever and you really take efforts to dive in deep.
Knox Hill, it's worth subscribing your channel. You're the best in breaking down the meaning or decoding the lyrics of their songs (even the raplines mixtapes). Respecting BTS as artist like you, your raps are super dope though. #BTS #OT7 #KnoxHill
Yeah, he already told in the previous video, if he react to a live version of the song it will be deleted somehow..thats why he didn't do for the live vids..
This is one of my favorite BTS rap line songs, the music, melody, their flows are on point. But for this song RM’s verse is my favorite, his delivery is so powerful, even though he’s rapping barely above a whisper, he pulls you in and and the flow change went he goes faster. Not going to lie, that was hot. 🥵
The Korean hammered string instrument you are hearing is the Yanggeum. It has metal strings, and is played by striking it with bamboo sticks. A lot of cultures have similar instruments, known generally as hammered dulcimers.
Ahh amazing! What you said at the end is absolutely right, and applies to most BTS songs. The more you watch the more you discover! It’s so worth it 💜 Thanks so much for this Knox!
I usually hate when reactors stop the videos but ugh you are something different, I just love it... you have such a grace when you speak... it’s amazing how well you can express your thought, so eloquent!! Yes the only way I can say it is God has given you some power with the words! It’s a gift 💝!!!!
Knox Hill is gold 💜💛 I love how he respects BTS as artists and people and I love how his reactions have so much quality! 💜 Thank you for treating BTS and their music with so much respect and listening and explaining on such a professional level! 💜 Armys, let's show Knox Hill our respect, love and support and listen and stream his music too!!
Continued 😆 The lyrics on RM’s verse when he is stuttering weren’t quite accurate, what he says is based on a Korean saying involving a crooked mouth that’s a bit too much to explain here but definitely worth looking up. Lastly, I know the translations aren’t great but Knox is amazing for appreciating and respecting BTS irrespective of this. For any lyric lovers like myself out there it is definitely worth doing some extra reading 😊
I wanted to add some extra info for anyone interested as this song goes so much deeper (taken from Doolset Bangtan) When J-hope ends his lines with repeating ‘yeah’ it could also mean ‘this kid’ which is how you’d casually address someone younger than you. To address your peers/friends/adults with this in SK would be considered inappropriate and pretty rude. There are a few extra meanings to Suga’s line ‘hunnit bae hunnit bae…etc’. I’ll just put one meaning taken from doolset. 1. the lyrics have slight variations: bae (baby), bar (a sentence in lyrical hip hop songs or a slang for money/bill), bbae (business before anything else).
That was amazing! And thank you for looking into the song beforehand. It really does do them justice! I know dkdktv don’t cover everything, so there is a lot more on doolset bangtan for the rest of the lyrics. There are a lot of double meanings and different ways of pronouncing certain words to give extra context. It really is a ‘layer’ song! Loved your take on it!
It was so good! I can’t wait to see more already 😅 My fave line (think someone else said too) is RM’s only excel/no break > accel/no brake and ‘look in the mirror, there’s your hater living and breathing’ ABSOLUTE🔥. Plus his ‘on purpose’ stuttering is just 🤌🏻 (there’s more meaning behind that too). Some of the lyrics were wrong here, as expected of these vids, but I’m so grateful you go the extra mile to give BTS justice. You’ve no idea how much we appreciate it Knox. Tysm!
BTS RM-JOKE or( RM-Do you) 6 Years ago when the Joke MV has been released. Joke itself is already iconic. RM shows that he is indeed a monster and that he is an incredible rapper
I love that all their music is like this with different layers of meaning. If someone doesn’t want to dig they can just enjoy the song but music people and thinkers there is more💜 good job! Thanks!
I'm not 100% sure but i think they used "gayageum" which is a korean instrument and "pipa" which is a chinese instrument, you can search for the videos that covered this song, they used those instruments
Wow, finally.. we have a true REACTOR who appreciates not only their music but their hard lyrics. It was really touching watching your clip, sir. Ddaeng, it was good.
Sir Knox! Taechwita approved of course. And you do your reactions however you want! Whether that involves research before or after, we appreciate the work and this was an amazing breakdown. Of course there are a lot more doubles/wordplay involved in the song but that’s up to the interested parties to research. Also, is it selfish of me to say ‘please don’t make us wait another two weeks for the next BTS reaction’ 😂😉 Thanks man!
Love this break down - this song is so good! I thought you’d pick up on RM playing around with tapping with a fake stutter while talking about how he can’t speak well ... such a fun little bit
Thank you Knox for taking the time to watch DKDKTV's explanation 🙏. Truly shows that you do read our comments and actually take the time to understand the lyrics that are in a completely foreign language. Much respect!!! #twinlife #parentoftwins
Ok English is my first language and Korean is my second yet somehow Knox broke this stuff down for me SO much better than even I ever could. Great video/analysis!! Keep going down the BTS rabbit hole!
If you haven't watched it, they did a live performance of this for one of their Festa celebrations. Their live energy is like nothing else! They also did a live performance where the vocal line rapped on this that is worth checking out. :)
I have seen 5-6 BTS reaction videos of yours in one sitting! You echo my reaction to their music. I love how respectful you are of their talent and the cultural differences. It was fun seeing you deciphering their music and lyrics. Translations can help with the lyrics, but the music bit, learnt so much. You are amazing!!
Wow. This was amazing! Thank you for doing research beforehand. Much appreciated. I’m glad you liked it. There’s always multiple layers in their songwriting that is most often left out in translation.
Suga once said in a live stream that he makes trap songs in his albums and everyone falls for it every time, they're songs that are so good that the haters can't help but love it and they're addressed right to the haters, he litterally laughed about how they always fall for it 😂
I love this guy sooooo much...Come on He really checked the lyrics and gives a detailed reaction to Rap line....He should be the official reactor to everyone not only for BTS...He respects the Artist😎Go on man...Yu r DOPE💜
finally you uploaded this!!! been waitin since i found your reaction!!.. the best reaction for rapline btw happy 5th times in a row No.1 Billboard Hot 100 chart!!!!
This is one of my favorite songs from the rap line, you should totally watch the live version of this and the version with the vocal line too, both are amazing
Thank you so much for taking your time not just to react to the singing and rap part, but also to appreciate the lyrics. Your reactions are really the best
when Rm sings "stuttering" on purpose(t-t...), he is making reference in the beginning of his rapper career, some rappers said that he stuttered a lot and would not be a good rapper
Thanks for the reactions Knox!! I love how you always dig into the lyrics. I would love to see you react to the music videos for Intro: Persona (RM), Interlude: Shadow(SUGA) and Outro: Ego (jhope). They go together in that order. They are based on Carl Jung's psychology of individuatuon and I just think it's kinda clever.
I'm so happy you checked the explanation and were able to trully appreciate the writing of this song. Like you said it's easy to listen to and catchy because of repetitive ddeang but they you dig deeper and find that there's so much wordplay and meaning behind it
I'm so glad you took your time researching this or you wouldn't have been able to appreciate the genius behind the lyrics. I'm sorry you missed RM's stutter at the end. Had you picked up on that you would have been even more impressed than you already were. Thank you for listening to our suggestions. Great job, Knox!
You are genuinely appreciative, and I wish you luck for your carrier, stay blessed. I highly highly suggest you to listen August d 'The Last ' you'll be blown away by the amount of intensity this one song holds!!! Looking forward to your reactions ✌
I really appreciate you doing your research and watching DKDKTV, it's a really complex track and this was not even included in their albums. SUga's use of traditional Korean instruments for this and some of their tracks is one of the reasons why they were awarded Cultural award in Korea (one of the many reasons). There is a behind the scene in which the 3 of them are in the studio for Ddaeng.
The wordplay in this I SWEAR TO GOD, a clever work they did in this diss track. I think no other kpop artists/groups did it like BTS when coming at lyrics, rap, or making a diss track
PLZZ! You're soo smart! I love your videos! And how you just get everything on point from the first watch/listen! Like a lot of Armys took like days to figure it out! RESPECT! 😔✋🏻🔥
I just found your channel and as an ARMY, I love your reaction and deep analysis of BTS' songs! Your analysis is just so on point. I know BTS rapline are talented but your analysis just makes me appreciate their talents even more.
I love your attention to detail and every little meaning! Instead of just simply reacting to them you try to understand and explain the songs thank you for your efforts 🙌
