The line about “How it felt to be on top when I was on you” was also a reference to how a lot of people claim that during that phase of his life, he was at the top of his career or that he made his best music, and people like to joke that he ought to get back on drugs to make that sort of music again. That’s one of the reasons he’s got that chip on his shoulder, and why he gets so puffed up in the chest when he talks about it, like “They want me to OD on codeine. They want my life in turmoil like in ‘03, they want front-row seats, I’ll give em nosebleeds.”

Hands down one of Ems best songs in my opinion. It's just so well created.

Eminem rhymes at such a consistently high level that people get used to it and take his skill for granted. Nobody else in the game has ever been able to bend words like he does. Flow, pronunciation, inflection, how he breaks up words, etc.. Top level...

A lot of rappers use beat switches just because it's cool nowadays. Very few rappers use it in the narrative of the song. The use of beat switches on this album is immaculate. He's not just doing it because he can, they have a method. Sorta jolts you up as if to say "hey this is the crescendo, pay attention and watch me wrap it up in this last verse." Just listen to these songs; Discombobulated, Book of Rhymes, Gnat, These Demons, Killer.

There's so many lines that hint towards this whole thing being a triple.. It just blows my mind, and yet all my dumbass can do is repeat the same line "this man is on a different level" but it just doesn't do it justice.. The man is a true savant when it comes to hip hop, no one is a more complete package.

Hi Knox, how are you? If I'm not mistaken, this was the only song from the album with beats by Dre and he produced it too alongside Eminem and other people. Can you please check out Leaving Heaven? It's a very personal song and I love that side of Em. He talks about his deadbeat dad. And yeah, I immediately thought about 25 To Life the first time I listened to this one. Both great songs. As an alcoholic, this song speaks levels to me. I also used to be addicted to painkillers but they never stuck as much as booze did… this song invokes lots of emotion

Okay but regardless of not watching the vid yet, that segment in the beginning was a new level of fire.

You've easily become one of my favorite reactors to watch break down bars. You catch way more than most and you can tell your experience in rap and music helps you catch things that normal people miss.

This is why I love Em. He recognizes that addiction is addiction..love, drugs, alcohol, Hip Hop..etc. It's hard not to be an enabler when it comes to Eminem's addiction to lyricism. Gawd damn!

“The way it felt for me to be in top when I was on you” probably my favorite line on the track,, it’s just brilliant because he’s basically saying the same thing on the relationship side of this song but regarding hip hop, it’s literally about him being on top of hip hop because the peak of his career when he was high as a kite.

There's a part in the first verse where the lyrics read as 'feel you up' but I always heard it as 'fill you up' ... as in filling up his prescription, and I swear with Em it was meant to be heard both ways

Throughout this whole album, Eminem has shown everyone, I'm talkin about everyone that's ever had one thing bad to say about him, what could they possibly say now every song he has showed us his personal life, he has giving us show many different Cadence of rap skills that he owns!
