Glad you're so perceptive. Not everyone is, and I have audience members who appreciate analysis of even finer details like expressions, because some of them like to write stories and songs and convey emotion and understanding; all the details of a show like this is helpful. But go ahead, be a funny little tumor.
@@RoarTheRapper I am one of those who loves the in-detail analysis because I struggle with tone and expression so it helps me to know what's intended and just how deeply
This is the least liked pinned comment I’ve seen. Just pointing that out. Did people think you were being rude or what is it? (Wait why am I yapping again?)
@@bunayogaming_q2841 No idea, the video just came up on a playlist, I found funny how obvious everything he was saying was and made a comment about it, the rest well, your guess is as good as mine
The thing is, Alastor does care, he's not entirely indifferent to what Vox is saying, it annoys him. He's good at acting like it doesn't but Alastor hates being disrespected so when he saw Vox was going at him he immediately went to his radio tower to start messing with him.
I feel as though Alastor wouldn't of been annoyed at that moment. He sees Vox as lesser then himself, so his insults don't carry any weight in Alastor's eyes
@@aceraddo2556 Maybe it wasn't so much what Vox was doing, but the fact he had a crowd listening to him about it. Like if one person was saying crap about me I would role my eyes and walk away, if they had a crowd hanging off their every word though that would bug me. Especially if you're someone with the power and influence that he does.
@@gurglequeen433 The argument still holds up. All of the people listening to Vox were also lesser than Alastor. If anything, he'd enjoy the fact that Vox is spreading Alastor's name further. It gave Alastor an excuse to make himself better known in the public, and the chance to slander the Vees while doing so
I've always wondered exactly how intelligent Vox is. When Alastor first got to hell, he destroyed the status quo by targeting the older overlords and creating a power vacuum. Why the hell would you tell Alastor there's a new status quo then spend several minutes doing a very catchy tune about how insignificant he is?
@@SH-qs7ee Vox is kinda smart, but his fear/hatred of Alastor causes him to make the series of terrible decisions he does once he finds out he's back. He's trying to get ahead of the narrative and flex how much control he has over the situation, but he's so far ahead of the narrative that he creates it himself and puts the situation far out of his control
A couple of things I'd also like to also add 1: surprisingly "thats the tea" isn't actually a new saying. It apparently has been said since at least the 1920s, which is around when alastor lived and died i believe if i remember correctly so in a way you could even say hes showing the old has just as much of a place as the new. 2: in both of alastor's duets, hell's greatest dad and stayed gone he's done something other demons don't, think carmilla and velvet, adam and charlie, lute and adam vs charlie, etc both respective parties had entirely different styles while singing. Alastor meanwhile just jumps right into their song, matching their style. He's trying to beat them at their own game musically after being disrespected, basically saying. "I can do everything you can do just as well if not better." Which imo definitely helped show off his confidence and strength. He doesn't need to change things up to steal the show from you, he'll just do what you do better. Which imo is especially evident in hell's greatest dad where he goes blow for blow with Lucifer.
If you consider the pilot as well; Alastor starts a song with Charlie that's very old-timey show tune, very vaudeville, which unites his style with her love of theatricality which also shows he's very good at reading people, figuring out what they like and what they need, and adapting to form bonds (or make deals!) with them when he chooses to. He's just such a formidably smart and charismatic character.
Literally right before this Vox (Tv demon) was telling Val (the moth demon who owns Angel Dust’s soul) not to go attack Charlie’s Hotel because it would make them look weak and that he should just do nothing. Then Vox immediately ignores his own words and does this broadcast making himself look desperate and weak.
A great touch of hypocrisy. It was easy for him to give good advice and act all high and mighty when it was someone else's issue, but once it became his own problem he couldn't help but do everything he said not to.
Alastor played it perfectly. He didn’t announce his return to Hell. He let Vox do that for him. And Vox fumbled hard. He should’ve said nothing about Alastor returning, but by bringing attention to it, in an effort to get ahead of Alastor and discredit him, he gave Alastor an easy platform to rebuttal. Vox starts with calling him a hasbeen, trying to portray him as a nobody that no one cares about, except he’s notable enough that Vox himself came out of nowhere to bring Alastor’s name up to everyone. In addition, Alastor perfectly rebuttals him by spilling the tea about Vox trying to recruit him before. Now someone might look at Vox and think “well if Alastor is a nobody, why did you try to recruit him?”
Actually if you look closely when the city goes into blackout you'll see the hotel's lights in the windows disappear as well, but then when it's starts to close up on the hotel the lights are red and remind me of Alastor or the color of emergency lights... It could be Alastor's power, but considering the hotel used to belong to the royal family before Charlie took over they might already have a secondary power source for cases like this... But yes, Radio has a huge advantage over TV in this case because usually radios could work on both batteries and electricity and there are even radios that can work with the radio-waves themselves as their power source, allowing Alastor to keep broadcasting even in a total blackout.
The other brilliant part of the "medium is getting bloody rare" is that Alastor is iconic with his deer imagery, and Vox is pulling out a deer head in Alastor's colors from the oven as he sings that line. Just a third layer on that line alone. xD
Another thing is that ‘bloody rare,’ implies a freshness to the object. While it’s a great metaphor, both radio and alastor are anything but fresh, and any of the sinners would be able to realize this if they were given time to think. But they aren’t, Vox’s whole style is speaking so fast that you barely can process his words.
@@Hurricayne92 alastor's character design could also be inspired by he myth of the Wendigo, which is in most stories a human possessed by a demon who makes them crave human flesh. the more they eat, the more they transform into this monstrous deer/human hybrid thing, and the worse the hunger gets.
Also, Vox's VA is an AMAZING Broadway performer; take a look at the Legally Blonde musical that you can easily find on YT! (It's truly good!) He sounds so sinister here, but he's known for playing really sweet and kind characters.
@@ChioriVods yesss, his range is INCREDIBLE. I'm still stunned by how many Broadway greats they got on board... Alex Brightman (Beetlejuice), OG Mimi from Rent, Leslie Kritzer (OG Serena from Legally Blonde, Delia from Beetlejuice), Erika Henningsen from Mean Girls... I could go on forever, but suffice to say, as a musical aficionado, I'm THRIVING.
The most interesting thing to note is the tone that Vox uses. When he's on his own, he is so confident, calm, and collected. Once he starts broadcasting, he's flighty and going all over the place. You can see he's practically trying to self delude himself as he tries to convince his viewers to ignore the Radio Demon, and that insecurity is what Alistor uses against him.
Ironically, it seems thatVix tries to emulate Alastor always smiling, he just fails at it miserably most of the time. (When Velvette calls him he does Alastor-like grin and mannerisms and gets immediately told to knock it off, all his pictures are with him grinning, like the one on the door)
I especially love when Alastor points out that Vox is powerless without the other V's, because they actually make the content, he's just the platform. Without content creators, video doesn't do anything
Alastor absolutely cares. About his reputation, about Vox's insults... About power lost and gained. That smile is a mask. Watch his eyes as he exits the tailor. He's PISSED, but he puts on a flawless careless act.
@@RoarTheRapper it's shown more in the very next shot, as he walks left. And if you weren't aware, alastor is known for 'never being dressed without a smile' and hiding his emotions behind it.
@@RoarTheRapperJust because you see a smile, don't think you know what goes on underneath. A smile is a very powerful tool; it inspires your friends, confuses your enemies, and makes sure that no matter what gets thrown your way, you are in control ...or something like that?
@@RoarTheRapper There’s also the fact that after vox glitches out and Alastor starts His solo bit he has a little snarl in his voice when he starts you can also see it as well
When push comes to shove, it's because Alastor prodded. I love that Alastor has incredible raw power, but he uses charm and finesse to take down Vox. One gentle poke and Vox retaliated so hard he swapped their virtual presences, allowing Alastor to trap him in the Old Crap room while he infected Vox with a virus (you have to pause when Vox glitches out to catch that. Another example of Alastor being knowledgeable of technology more advanced than when he was alive.) Vox should have listened to his own advice and done nothing, lol. Another interesting detail I noticed is that Vox mentioned status quo before he began his broadcast, but Alastor somehow seemed aware of this and addressed it in his outro.
@@ShadowFox1412 I also have a very strong hunch that the seemingly innocuous deal he made with Vaggie to never ask him to engage with television technology is going to have to do with Vox specifically. Like maybe Vox will do something to the hotel, but Alastor won't intervene until Vaggie asks him, at which point she will have broken the deal. And what do you suppose happens if someone breaks a deal with Alastor? He's got hell's power players lined up like dominos, and all he has to do is give a gentle nudge.
@@shaskusmas holy shit, I didn't even think about that! I'm sure Alastor could wipe the floor with at least Vox and Valentino (no idea what Velvette is capable of), but why shouldn't he take advantage of the Vees inevitably fucking with the hotel? Honestly, if only Vaggie hadn't been so rude to him from the get go, Alastor probably wouldn't have even bothered making the whole commercial thing part of a deal in the first place
@@ravenmasiewicz6742 well, I think Alastor may have wanted to nab Vaggie's soul either way, since that gives him power over Charlie which gives him power over Lucifer. I don't think Alastor got his thumb over so many souls by saying, hey, sell me your soul for this or that. He makes deals, deals that seem better than they are. I think Husker can attest to that. As well as many others in their respective deals (Val and Angel)
@@shaskusmas I mean, he didn't even try for Vaggie's soul, nor did he try for Charlie's (though the latter was desperate enough at the time she might've actually gone for it). Honestly, the only person we know for a FACT he owns the soul of is Husk, I can't even find anywhere it's truly confirmed he and Niffty have a deal. Heck, while hardly an all that reliable source Alastor's wikia page implies when the pair first showed up he just conjured them to him like he can other things, not through owning their souls. For all we know Niffty's there purely because she likes hanging around Alastor, not because she's obligated to be there. Though I am curious how many souls he DOES own. We've only seen Husk and potentially Niffty, but Carmilla had said that the council of overlords owned millions of souls between them, and at the very least Alastor and the Vees are probably considered pretty young considering how relatively recently they died.
@@ravenmasiewicz6742 I mean it's both true. One doesn't cancel the other one out. In this scene Vox wanted to grill Alastor's head in particular. Even though a deer head it the most inedible part of a deer, it was here to tell the story. To tell: a) Vox wants Alastor dead b) Alastor is a cannibal; and yes, he likes venison espeically deer/stag parts as he himself is one edit: Most sinners are reminiscent of animal figures. This is because how they died. Angel for example died because he was caught in the web of crimes. That's why he resambles a spider demon. Alastor on the other hand was mistaken as an animal (deer) and got shot in the head (x marks the spot). That's why Alastor has a deer from as an demon. He is abvously very snarky about his death, that's why he makes fun of it. And he does seem to like the taste.
@@crispy_retrodude9463 You are referring to the episode one when Alastor offered his help to Charlie about the advertisment for the hotel. That's not the title of the advertisment - nor is there any info about how his radio show is called. He - Alastor - is a radio demon that frowns upon everything "television based" which also include an old tv. That's also why Alastor "had a little fun" with it ;) That's also why he offered Vaggie an old camera before turning into a newer version of it. You do recognize that the video (and television) demon is Vox and that both have beef together?
The, "medium is getting bloody rare" line was my favorite when I first heard this song. It gets even better when you realize he's cooking a deer head, which alastor is associated with because of his deer features.
My favourite songs in hazbin were definitely the duets like this, hells greatest dad is also hilarious. Alastor gets into a dick swinging contest with Lucifer over who's a better father figure to Charlie
I'm convinced that Alastor's intent in that duel with Lucifer was to motivate Luci to step up to the plate and take up the role he'd been absent from for so long. To be a dad to Charlie by showing him someone else was ready to step into the role. Although, I don't think Alastor actually had any intent to play that part and I don't think this was done for any altruistic purposes. My theory is that his contract is with Lilith and SHE sent him there to help Charlie. Alastor is a genuine psychopath and doesn't do anything without some personal gain coming from it. I *DO* think he is starting to genuinely like the Hotel crew, but that doesn't mean he won't sell them out. Anyway, I don't think it's a coincidence that he and Lilith both disappeared for 7 years and he showed up at the Hotel literally minutes after Charlie left a message for her mom saying how worried she was that her plan wasn't going to work out.
Hi! You probably already remember this, but when you were talking about the other V's it reminded me that you get a taste of their personalities in Poison and Respectless. It's fun to see all these personalities and how they fit together to work as a team.
All this and Valentino still doesn’t have his own song. He literally doesn’t sing until his little bit comes in with Vox in the finale. Give the most evil of them all his own song you cowards! (His VA is super sweet too, let him use his pipes)
Actually on the contrary, I wished you'd talked about this for longer! I was fully entertained by the analysis of one of my favorite songs from this show.
Again great take on it, especially on the trends and entertainment having no substance. Because yes clearly Vox and the Vees are opportunists and really represent what you mentioned: jumping on every trend and everything that makes views to remain on top. Vox made a mistake by provoking Alastor, especially while being so personally affected by it. It was way too easy for Alastor to humiliate him and rile him up... I actually think that Alastor doesn't have anything to do with the blackout at the end, at least not with his powers. Rather, he riled Vox up so effectively that the TV Demon bluescreened and created the blackout. I think it makes it even better: Alastor doesn't even need magical powers, just wits.
It makes sense why Vox would have wanted Alastor to join him because he recognizes when something is going to be worth adding to his technological empire. Which is undoubtedly why he and Velvette get along, as she represents social media, which indeed did become the next big thing after television. Vox represents soft power that focuses on influence, while Alastor represents hard power that prefers physical dominance.
Hi, i found your channel on my feed a few days ago! I just have to say i appreciate how you don't just comment on how 'good' the song is, but also get into detail with symbolism and themes! Not many people do that and i think its cool that you pay close attention and express different things quite well! I subscribed! :) ❤
Fun thing about the "his medium is getting blody rare" is that Alisters demon form is that of a deer or wendigo. So Vox went for extra diss here. Btw, reason why Alister has deer form is because when he was alive, he was serial killer and cannibal. One day he was hiding one of his victims in a forest and was shot by hunter who mistook him for a deer.
3:41 A part of me wishes we had Alastor on air before Vox started his song. If we saw Alastor doing nothing and waiting for Vox to push his content by attacking it there by bringing attention to it. I think it would have been a powerful message about their power and relationship, like is Alastor made stronger by Vox's hatred and need to make that hatred public and in the public eye.
Soul deals are how demons get more powerful. Reach and clout let you pull more wayward souls towards making a deal with you, thereby making you more physically powerful.
@@RoarTheRapper simple, there is none. As technology advances the rate of change (especially for social/communication methods) increases. It’s not gradual as it once was, but that’s the point, everything is in a constant state of change. Learn from the past, but don’t cling to it. P.S. thanks for replying.
It seems like the Overlords powers are dependent on how many souls need or want what they supply. The Vees seem largely based on tech, pron and social media; all things that can get left in the dust pretty quick by the next new thing. So yeah, their influence is strong but at the same time kinda fragile.
I've been binging all your hazbin song reactions and they're all so good i'm so happy you were in my recommended! I love how you actually look at the lyrics and what they're saying!!
Hey, first video I've seen of yours. I liked your points and thoughts, they helped show why I love the song. Also, I could totally have listened to more! Keep on
Welll the happy algorithm of youtube offered me this. I'm so pleased :D I personally don't like rap at all but this commentary is pure gold :D You got yourself one more subscriber for this, let's see how long I can hang on before there's too much rap ;)
Not to mention the fact that the closing lines that Alistor speaks are the opening lines that Vox said, meaning that he knew what Vox was broadcasting from the start and flipped it so that Alistor was in the narrative control at the end. Also Vox was rambling like he was trying to convince the viewer to see him as right. Alistor just spoke with calmness and clarity and people naturally gravitated to him.
just a little tidbit I noticed from listening to this song with headphones on as Vox is throwing his tantrum there at the end you can hear his feet tapping on the floor. lol
I'm not a huge rap head other than the artists I enjoy listening to but I find it fascinating how they manage to have rhymes that just flow together so quickly you'd miss them. Or more so it's since in the first half there's not really a flow you don't realize the whole time he's integrating ryhme schemes We're discussing a certain *hazbin* that *has been* seen cohorting around after a 7 year *absence*
"He'd be nothing without the other Vees" Real nice touch by Alastor. Sows a bit of dissent among the Vees, lets them know that they are stronger than Vox while complimenting them which, by the smiles on their faces from those words, can make them more sympathetic towards Alastor and make Vox more paranoid that they may leave him.
This song does definitely send a message to the other Overlords; if you try and go up against the Radio Demon, expect to have your little parade taken down by him in a matter of moments. Besides, the line 'The TV is buffering' is unique, as radios of the 1920s and 1930s didn't really buffer or glitch out, plus they've been around longer, in which Alastor uses this to his advantage.
I like your take on people constantly switching formats to fit in with the times, caring more about numbers, and like you, I don't care for people who do that. Authenticity is key
Not sure if you caught it but Alastor at the end parodies what Vox says at the beginning basically going "Ok at the beginning of this you were in charge you were the top dog around but its time for you to remember your place"
An amusing comparison of old and new... TV changes CONSTANTLY and is even being replaced by phones (technically) and vr... But as long as satellites are orbiting, radio can almost always get a signal. In with the old, out with the new- They don't make em like they used to!
The lyrics SLAYED. The song just didn't disappoint. The burns? Savage. I'm on my knees lol. And you know what you would also have fun with? CyYu and LeeandLie's cover of it. Can't get it out of my head...
I always tell content creators to try to be themselves and not let the audience dictate what they do too much. Like if they’re gamers, don’t let people force you to play games you hate just for views. And Alastor is my favorite Hazbin character.
The deeper symbolism in this song, is that Alastor is radio, an old, some would argue, outdated medium. While Vox is TV, the new, hit thing everyone always watches. But, Vox is always vying for everyone’s attention. While Alastor, doesn’t need to do much to get people listening. TV tries to get everyone to stop listening, but Radio is passive, you can be doing chores and still listen in. TV requires your full attention. TV’s require a clear signal, while Radio, runs on radio waves, and doesn’t receive much interference. Thus, Alastor/Radio, defeated Vox/TV. Also, notice how Vox was telling people what to think. While Al asked questions and have his own perspective, making listeners think and form their own opinions. Words, are some of Al’s greatest weapons, he’s a silver tongued manipulator.
Vox is so amazinggg. And let's be real... Vox /did/ get a rise out of Alastor. Yes, Al won the battle but in a way he kind of confirmed that he cares about Vox's behavior and antics.
Something about how the world works that might help. Souls are power. Overlords like vox and alastor deal in souls with individuals or groups. By discrediting and bashing alastor vox is hoping fewer and fewer people make soul deals with him thereby weakening him
The other two v's are the adult entertainment industry and social media both of which have heavily dictated how video technology has advanced so calling him the weakest of them is a cool reference
It's a pretty big point at the end that he completely re-sets the song. Once Vox's transmission dies, Alastor pulls back to his comfortable pace and meter. The final blow is him trivializing the entire fight, oh this will be fun... Similar to the fight with adam, you lack discipline, control, and you're sloppy. Alstor is terrifyingly unshakable and enjoys the game. Even after finally getting beaten, he leaves an eerie feeling as he retreats. Incredibly well written character.
Alastor very much cares, Alastor can't stand two things. One is those who completely disregard him such as someone stronger than him or someone that just straight up doesn't care about him. And the second is those that disrespect him or the things he's doing. He just doesn't show it in a way you'd normally notice. Alastor is always smiling and uses it to hide his feelings and intentions. To understand what he's thinking and feeling you need to pay attention to his eyes as his eyes are incredibly expressive and are one of the 2 ways he shows his feelings, the other being his shadow.
In all fairness, RU-vid isn't blameless in their creator's clout chasing. Pretty sure they work their algorithm to benifit whatever the latest trend happens to be.
It happens for sure, but I would argue it’s first and foremost coming down to what people value. If they value it, that’s where the magnifying glass goes.
I honestly didn't realize that Vox was trying to cancel alastor like is twitter until you mentioned the follower thing, is funny because Velvette is the social media demon lol.
I would like to point out that radio will never die out Bluetooth uses radio waves TVs uses radio waves so no matter what vox(tv dude) will rely on radio to be around
2:40 can you think of a better Hell than popularity? And power dynamics? Edit: oh yeah jealousy… that mixed with staying relevant… It’s a Hell and a half.
No idea who lanky is but yes, sniper wolf sucks. . (Also idk if you saw my last comment, I thought you said “CHECK OUT lanky box” and I was like what?! No! What’s your deal?! Sorry!)
Why's rap equal loser behavior to you? A lot of artistic individuals find a good outlet for creativity, a direction to what might otherwise be idol hands behavior, and even foster self respect and understanding of your worth as person by putting so much of yourself into your music.
I personally love Stayed gone because of how it's written. I feel like most of the Hazbin Hotel songs are written in this sort of rushed way and the verses are filler only ever trying to bring listeners back to the chorus over and over again. I'm 99% sure I'm so fond of Stayed Gone because it doesn't really have that solid chorus to play every 10 seconds.
Something worth pointing out with the entirety of VOx's shtick is that he is essentially messing himself up. Example is the line "Pivoted to video" which is a reference when Facebook tried to entice people to come over and make their video service a proper competitor to RU-vid, by gloating about getting ABSURD number of views. (Not mentioning that they counted every single time someone even saw it while scrolling, inflating views to the insane) Which of course fell on its face. Essentially, Vox,in this entire song, is making a false claim.
