Toby Flenderson Ah, but there is never a coincidence when it comes to the ERB writers my friend. The way Joker delivers the lines makes him start the second line basically *immediately* when he didn’t have to, so that the Skarsgård reference is smooth and clear. It’s just perfection lol
Yeah, batman is Joker's. Every incarnation in comics, shows, movies, games etc shows that for the Joker, everyone can play with his batman but only he is allowed to kill him.
Why does no one ever reference that, The Joker teamed up with Lex Luthor to kill each others rival? Luthor believed that he could kill Batman easily. So he said to The Joker, (paraphrasing) "How do you kill a god when you can't kill a man?" The Joker responds, "Batman is no ordinary man." The point of this is that The Joker could defeat Superman, but, Batman is HIM! In his mind they are the same person with different points of view. If anyone kills Batman, it will be The Joker. There is too much fun "playing" (trying to out wit) Batman. There is no existence without nemesis. Just a comic book view.
@@1969GrassHoppa finally a person of knowledge yes joker is one of the most famous villains but underrated because people only see him against batman but in all honesty they dont read comics much...
@@shxden1760 Yes but it's pretty much inferred by both his look and his demons and the fact that bad people go there to be tortured that he's Satan. Lord Darkness or Lord of Darkness are just indirect names for him.
@@Cuban20 To add on to this, the name is a lot more trademarkable than Satan or the Devil and they may have avoided using those names since it was 80s with all the hate against Metal and Pop for obscene lyrics and such.
@@sagesawyer2215 I hadn't caught it the first time either. Someone else had pointed it out. And when I saw no one else on here had made the connection, I figured I'll let everyone know.
"They pale, like the moonlight you can dance with the devil in". This is a reference to the 1989 Batman movie; Jack Nicholson would ask his victims this question "you ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?". This went over most people's heads
Extremely late but I think it has another layer on top of that. "Dancing with the devil" is slang for participating in risky behavior with a high chance of getting hurt or otherwise suffering negative consequences - nowadays "playing with fire" is more common - so Joker is also warning Pennywise that he's going to get burned BAD if he thinks he can keep up with the Harlequin of Hate.
"Beep beep. You're a John Doe in my deadlights" I feel that this bar is going over A LOT of people's head. Reactors included. Which is a shame, because its crazy. First off, its a play on words for " A deer caught in headlights". Because deer are known for freezing and being hit by cars, due to the headlights. 'Doe' is a term for a female deer, basically calling Joker the deer while the 'Beep beep', means that Pennywise is the car. John Doe, is a reference to the Joker in Telltale's Batman game. But 'John Doe' is also literally a legal term for unknown parties for documentation. No one knows who Joker actually is, making him literally unknown. Which in this context, Pennywise is calling him a nobody. Deadlights are the three round lights that Pennywise uses to capture anyone that happens to look into them. Which basically ties in to the whole headlights bit and how deer look into those. This bit alone is just crazy with the word play while also just saying that Joker will be a nobody that he kills.
Alphazone Also a John Doe is a term used to identify a dead “male” with an unknown name, also indicating he would be a dead nobody. This one little section has like 6+ meanings.
Joker doesnt want batman dead because he is the only one who presents a challenge, he enjoys playing with him. He couldve killed batman hundreds of times.
Heaths Joker presented it the best in any of the movies imo. "Kill you?! I dont want to kill you! What would I do without you? Go back to ripping off mobsters? You.. complete me."
@8ight The whole thing with that is that besides his no-killing rule it's also not up to him who dies. His job is to apprehend villains so they can be taken into police custody to be put on trial and given an appropriate sentence. He didn't become a vigilante so that he could LARP his way through Gotham as Judge Dredd. It's not Batman who is to blame for the Joker constantly coming back. It's the court in Gotham for not giving the Joker the death penalty already, or (if whichever state Gotham is in doesn't have the death penalty) at the very least solitary confinement in a maximum security prison for supervillains instead of sending him to the same asylum he keeps escaping from.
@@trolldrool I know his rule but at what point is too far? He can put joker away 100 times and joker would come back 101 times and even kill more innocent people in the process
Jack Nicholson, who was the Joker in a past movie, played the dad in the shining. So he's a "shining man" MARK HAM with ILL zingers. Mark Hamill, seems you missed that line. Didn't seem like you knew about the Bob Kane and Bill Finger thing. Stole all of his work basically, copyright is a bitch. The Pale moonlight line is a reference to line Jack Nicholson said when he played the Joker. And I leave Scars Guards at arkham Skarsgard, the actor for Pennywise. The killing joke reference with the camera covering half of his face Joker won, if you can get all the references. Notorious B.I.G. is wall-eyed.
BlazingRefrain Plus Stephen King hated that (Stanley Kubrick's) version of The Shining. Even though everyone else (including me) liked it better than Stephen King's remake.
Also pennywise has a couple very obscure lines that I don't see anyone get "You're a John Doe in my Deadlights" is a reference to the Telltale game where Joker was called John Doe, and also he's saying "you're a nobody in my Deadlights" "You're about to fall from a new height" may be a reference to the ending of the Batman NES game where Batman straight up kills the joker from pushing him off the building
I haven’t heard anyone talk about the Cask of Amontillado line, so I’ll explain it. Montressor is a “friend” of Fortunado, until Fortunado insults Montressor Montressor is in a family in which they always seek revenge Montressor then tricks Fortunado into his trap in which Fortunado gets buried alive. Which the “seal this battle up, like it was the Cask of Amontillado”
And yet I'm reminded of this episode of the JL animated series where Lex Luthor and the entire Legion of Doom have Batman captured in this room and in these insane restraints, and Joker tells Lex that he's crazy for not killing Batman right then and there, because he would inevitably escape and find a way to win. How'd that meme go? "Look at all of those fools, trapped in that room with Batman."
Incorrect pain isn't the Joker motivation, mainly he's after the Bat for amusement and a challenge. he's trying to break Batmans moral compass, Which to a degree the Joker has won. there's a few times Batmans been bloodhound nipping heels only to be lead to freeway, I mean how many moving cars can you destroy without collateral damage, so at some point Batman stopped thinking "I will always achieve the best possible outcome" to "fucking send it I don't have many options" Ideology of the Bat To The realities from a rat
I’m sure you’ve been told, but “Wall eyed rapper” is literally referring to B.I.G’s eyes, as well as the fact that the new actor for IT was able to go wall eyed naturally and used it to spook a costar
"I'm the John Wayne of John Wayne Gacys" is probably my favorite line in this. John Wayne Gacy is the Clown killer, and Pennywise uses it referencing "Clown Killer" in both senses here.
“The underground clown posse my flow’s insane.” He referenced the rap group Insane Clown Posse and when a rapper isn’t mainstream they are called “underground.”
the whole "im a shining man wink" stephen king HATES the shining movie.. and it was almost universallly recognized as the "best" movie. it was a dig at king
@@arthurschamne He actually has motor control, I'm not sure he's fully walleyed as much as he can make himself look walleyed whenever he wants. I watched interview where Bill Hader told a story about how he walked up to Bill Skarsgard and told him how that special effect with his eye was so creepy when they were starting shooting on It Chapter 2, and Skarsgard said, "you mean this?" and then he freaked Hader out by doing it right there in front of him.
Sorry about that, but the fact it’s just called “Batman” makes it hard to define without referring to the year, which I didn’t remember while I was posting, and I don’t think it mattered in the context of the comment itself
Actually, the Joker always seems to fall off a building or some height. Even in the comic book, his first appearance ended by him falling off a building...and SURVIVING!!!!
I noticed that and its annoying bc they go on to talk about Jack Nicholson's joker pretrial but nobody iv seen seems to get it the 1st time except me of course I love both clowns and everything wicked clown especially whoop whoop
And also saying The Shining is your favorite King movie is not cool with Stephen King as he hated Kubricks version... so he is saying all King movies suck except the one that King hates.
"Who needs guards when you couldn't even escape Cesar Romero's mustache?" Is a reference to the actor who played Joker in the TV show from the 60's. He refused to shave, so they had to cover up his mustache with makeup.
That line is so underated. Btw for the ones who don't know, Mark Hamill was the joker's voice for several batman cartoons during the 90s and early 00s.
Okay but the cask of Amontillado references are actually killer. It's a story about a man dressed as a jester that gets sealed inside of his own wine cellar. The entire story has alot of dramatic irony with the fortunado being incredibly ignorant of montressors true power/intentions so you have the comparison there as well as the "seal this battle up" line-- Poe is one of my favorite poets and the cask of Amontillado actually served as inspiration for the scary clown trend that both pennywise and joker are based off of.
he does not know more roasts than me. he missed the man who laughs fortnuado and why so serious and when i go mark ham with ill zingers i steal the show like bob kane stole from bill finger and mine stings btw theres alot of roasts
It is also the title of a Joker comic about his first meeting with the Dark Knight, and it is alos referenced in The Batman Who Laughs, the story about Batman from Earth-22 is infected by Joker's toxin and became as insane as the Joker.
I’m surprised you miss the “Your a John Doe in deadlights” bar. It’s a pretty clever double entendre if you look into it. Let me explain: A John Doe is another word for an unidentified body. So he basically says the Joker will be an unidentifiable body when he’s in his deadlights (Pennywise’s mouth orbs). The other meaning is when he says Doe, which also means a young dear. Deadlights could also be heard as headlights. So he called Joker a dear in his headlights. And a dear in headlights gets petrified and hit by the car.
While the first part of your explanation is technically true, the point of the line is most likely the fact that the Joker specifically has no backstory, and cannot be identified, therefor making him a John Doe. Also, a Doe is a female deer of any age, a fawn is a young deer.
WriteRap- SleepRepeat dude, the John Wayne/John Wayne Gacy line right before that was SO GOOD. TLDR, JWG kidnapped and murdered little boys and passed them off as missing persons. Pennywise’s victims are reported as missing persons.
you jester, i’m montressor, about to make you my fortunado, and seal this battle up like it was the cask of amontillado🔥 thank you 9th grade english cuz that was fire
@@jonjiwjk-1682 Just look up the Cask of Amontillado. It's a short story. There's even RU-vid videos about it being read and explained. It's honestly a really good story.
@@jonjiwjk-1682 long story short, in the Cask of Amontillado (written by Edgar Allen Poe), Montessor sealed up Fortunado in a wall after getting him drunk on his favorite wine. Edit: It should also be noted that Fortunado was wearing a jester hat when he got walled up, complete with bells on.
Yes. And that’s why this ERB did so well is because it was a long awaited, highly requested battle since they started. Since they are relying on Patreon now they’re able to do more with the budget
9:05 “best walleyed rapper” - A brag went over that head? Notorious BIG was walleyed (divergent eye positioning) and Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise uses his walleye to frightful effect. (See the paused frame of Lloyd’s Pennywise.)
John doe in my deadlights -deadlights like headlights -doe like a deer -deer in the headlights -john doe is a name a joker uses often because it means anonymous
8:41 the joker taking picture is from the cover or the "killing joke" where the joker killed jason todd ( the second robin). Even In the screen there is so much référence. Damn.
It is a reference to Killing Joke, but that's not where Jason Todd is killed, he's killed in Death in the Family. Killing Joke is when Joker kidnaps Jim Gordon after shooting and paralyzing Barbara Gordon.
Jason Todd was killed in *"Death of the Family" (*I think around Batman (1988) #426-429), The Killing Joke was when he kidnapped Jim Gordan and tried driving him mad and shot + paralyzed Barbara Gordan. Just thought I'd tell you.😁
Yeah killing joke is where the joker shots Barbara Gordon (aka batgirl) in the waist, strips her naked, takes photos, and then decorates a macabre amusement park ride with them to psychologically torture her father, Commissioner Gordon. Barbara survives and goes on (paralysed in a wheelchair) to become The Oracle, essentially Batman’s crime researcher. Honestly the horrific essence of it makes it sound like something Stephen King would write. I’d recommend checking out the original comic book, as well as the animation. Creepy stuff tbh.
The jokers references to "Mark Ham" (Mark Hamill, who played the Jokers voice in the series) and to the famous Tim Burton line : "You ever danced with the devil in the pale moonlight ?" at 6:17 are just sooo fuckin' great
@@marcosdheleno nah he does, it's just they are still severely underrated as rappers. People talk about them like they only appeal to the general public, and while they do, they also spit some crazy fire bars most of the time, but they go over most heads. There are the general public easy lines like the poker line, but there's many more obscure ones like the cask of Amontillado line. They have some serious wordplay and are just generally underrated. That doesn't mean underexposed, mind you. Plus they severed ties with Disney, so now they are an independent studio, which makes this production quality even more astounding! They only go off patreon money pretty much. And merch.
"beep beep, you're john doe in my headlights" someone else pointed this line and i can't get over it. and the scars guard line like others have mentioned,....the more i watch it, the more i love. AND LLOYD REALLY KILLED BEING PENNYWISE.
I thought Lloyd nailed Pennywise to a spooky degree, but Peter also really delivered on Joker. For sure, one of their best ERBs to date, and I am thoroughly impressed!
@Lord Yamcha: Lord Above All Humans The thing about Heath was that he wasn't the Joker... by all hands and by all meanings Mark Hammill is *THE* Joker. No. Ledger was what the Joker should be in real life. He wasn't an adaptation of a comic book character... he was chaos incarnate. This is precisely why he passed away... one cannot contain chaos without serious side effects...
"I'm a Shining man!" That line got me lol, as it has so many different meanings For starters, the Shining was written by Stephen King and adapted to film by Stanley Kubrick, the film King hated the most, and it also starred Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrence If you don't know already, Jack Nicholson ALSO played Joker in the 1989 Batman (my personal favourite live action incarnation of the character). Basically Nicholson is the connection between these two universes, DC and the King universe These guys have been doing their homework
as heath Ledger said in the movie he was in: "I could never kill you, you complete me." Without batman, the joker has no opponent, no one who would fight him
Jester I'm montressor bout to make you my fortunado, and im gonna seal up this battle like the cask of Amontillado. This is a reference to the Edgar Allan Poe poem. The plot revolves around two clowns one insults the other so he killed the other by sealing him in a basement with bricks.
ERB is one of the best teams on youtube. Their costume and makeup people, their animator’s, writer’s, director’s, researcher’s, all of them are fucking incredible. I was worried they were done with making them back when they took a break for over a year or however long it was, but then they finally came back and are better than ever. Also, Roosevelt vs Churchill is straight fire.
Pennywise: Float- Crypt: **pauses** Float is a verb used in a sentence when an object is moving on the surface of the water without breaking the water's surface tension and sinking, but float could also be used for objects which are slowly moving and hovering in the air. But a float could also be a noun, like float in a pool being used for buoyancy; though a float is also a rectangular bladed handtool used to smoothen out concrete or plaster. Pennywise says the word float as a verb in the film and in the book, you can look it up if you want.

What’s most impressive about this is that they had to scale back and go more for a more indie feel since they went completely independent. And they were able to make this quality of a battle. Badass
The Shining reference that is most often overlooked is Jack Nicholson played The Joker and was the leading character in the movie The Shining. The wink was a very well-placed clever nod to that fact.
4:00 the man who laughs is also the inspiration for the joker himself, many people seem to just think of it as joker being the one who laughs and comparing that to the why so serious heath ledger line but there is also a deeper reference in that line too.
"I thought you were the man who laughs!" Conrad Veidt's character in "The Man Who Laughs" is cited as a direct inspiration for The Joker's appearance. Pennywise was getting the most stealth dig in ERB history at Joker being a visual rip-off.
"Ask Robin if I drop bars" is easily my favorite line along with All of Pennywise's entire final verse. Jason Todd dying the way he did is really ironic because he tells Batman that being beaten to death with a crowbar (Incredibly specific) is his most feared way to die.
Just a heads up, with the Cask of Amontillado bar, Fortunado, the one who gets walled in, is wearing a Jester's outfit during the story. So he's going to be Montresor making a man dressed like a clown disappear.
I said this on erb channel but Joker laughed as superman punched him through his chest. IT screamed when the loser club hit him with a sling shot We all know joker won
I'm happy you stopped it so many times! We can all go watch the original if we want it uninterrupted. I love hearing your opinions, and especially pointing out the references. Ones I knew, ones I didn't, loved it all.
You should react to hit rap songs in voice impressions by azzerz. He has done three videos the first two have popular songs and the newest one has original songs.
"i take smiles and i leave SCARS GUARDS in arkham will admit that the joker just killed IT!" idk if anyone else pointed this out, and i am late, but they purposefully led those two lines together because SCARS and GUARDS together sounds like Skarsgard, the most recent actor to portray Pennywise. also saying he killed IT, as in Pennywise, but as you all probably already know, he is killing it in the battle as well, figuratively also, the name of every Joker actor was mentioned, as you pointed some out. Phoenix, Jared Leto, Heath Ledger, and my personal favorite, dropping the line "when i flow i go MARK HAM with ILL zingers!" which, looking at the capitalized letters, gives us Mark Hamill, but not only that? MARK HAM sounds like Arkham, leading back to the popular saying: "can't spell Mark Hamill without Arkham" beautifully master crafted lines every single second of this battle. this is probably their best one ever, cause these are just a few of the examples that fill this battle from start to end
Don't apologize for stopping. I like when reaction videos stop the video and talk about it. It's when they stop the video and go off on weird tangents I don't like. (Looking at you, Insane Ian)
