"If you're upset, you can rent an apology." When you rent something and the due date has passed, the company has the rights to take back what has been rented. In hindsight, it's their way to say 'sorry, not sorry' while also making money. If this ain't fire, Idk what is man...
@GrahamChapman
@GrahamChapman Год назад
That line brings to my mind how most court cases against criminal corporatists tend to end up with us being forced to settle for settlements. "If you feel we've wronged you then some money should make us good, provided you're anything like us and money is the only thing you care about that is? You better be like us because us giving you scrap money off of our table is honestly as happy an ending as we're gonna let you have. But in return for giving you money to make you feel better, you have to stop telling people that we're criminals, and how we're criminals, or we'll sue you into the ground." So, in the end, they get away without sentencing and don't even have to confess that they ever did anything wrong, they just apologize for the fact that we feel that they did something wrong, and all we get is a (to them) cheap token of that apology that doesn't really fix anything, that doesn't actually heal anything, and that just reiterates the classist power imbalance between us and them... "If you're upset you can rent an apology" is basically the next step down that line: We don't even get any money out of it any longer, instead we have to pay _them_ for an apology (which still doesn't mean that they admit to any wrongdoing) and once we cannot afford that rent any longer, or the rental period has expired, the apologies are revoked.

When you said "This can't be about the game! It can't!" ... Yep. It 100% is. But he described it in such a generalized way that it can also apply in the real world. He specializes in double meanings that apply to multiple things, ESPESIALLY themes of capitalist dystopias, which are his typical favorite kind to do. If you want another song like this, look up a very old song of The Stupendium's that's considered an old classic: "The House Always Wins" about Fall-Out

Whatever price they set, you have to pay that, because there's no competitors around. Sometimes they even paid in "scrip", which you could not trade for real money. The game includes indentured servitude, which was very common in the early days of America - in exchange for a ticket, you'd basically be a slave for a certain amount of time.

It is so much worse in the game. You find out about one person who killed himself, but the doctor on the conoly is covering it up. When you press him about it you find out if the company found out he killed himself the colony would be charged the full value of all the money that guy would have earned the company. The parralells to reality are there, but it can be seen as a warning to how bad things can truely get. Hell there is a mascot who wears a giant illuminated moon mask. He is never allowed to take it off, even in private. He can barely eat and cant sleep, depending on drugs to be able to work his shifts.

@TF2CrunchyFrog
@TF2CrunchyFrog 11 месяцев назад
Yep, the entire planet and colony and all the "employees" are property of the corporation. The IRL term for that is "debt slavery" where indentured workers are technically paid wage but so many "fees" are taken off that paycheck (for housing, food and all sorts of stuff) before they even see it, and often the pay they get comes in the form of corporate currency or coupons they can only use to buy from shops owned by that very corporation (which also controls the prices). So not only does the wage flow right back into the corporation's pockets, but the corp can basically charge whatever they want for neccessities like toilet paper or small comforts like booze/candy bars/whatever. The system of debt slavery is designed so that at the end of each month the "employee" always owes more than the wage check, so the debt increases... and the only way to pay back the debt (with interest!) is... to work it off. So their contract is extended over and over, and the contract says they can't leave... It's a system seen in 18th century British workhouses, 19th century factories... heck, it's still/again around from modern day USA to brick factories in Pakistan (where debt is now generational: children "inherit" the parents' debts when they become adults, so once the parents are too old to work, the Pakistani factory owner basically owns the labour of the next generation as well, and as Pakistani are only allowed to marry if they have enough money to provide for a family, they usually borrow more money at shady moneylenders and he and his wife are forced to work it off somehow, and the cycle continues).

@cyl_genderfluid-furry
@cyl_genderfluid-furry 6 месяцев назад
I don't know if they were out at the time, but they go by they/them more commonly now, and I think I heard and/or saw somewhere that they might be genderfluid, and looking at how they seemed to describe their unfamiliarity with they/them, I imagine they might either be genderfluid, or agender, which are more or so only really different in effect on the level that people who are genderfluid can sometimes end up circling back to (a) certain gender(s), and/or are more likely to present as one or two genders at a time, and also there are some who are demifluid who usually always go by atleast one unchanging set of pronouns regardless of their fluidity's current expression, although I don't currently know if that's actually a neurological part of the gender, or if it's just genderfluid but with psychological issues regarding certain gender presentation. That may be projecting on my part, as I think people who are demifluid don't often avoid coming off as one way they are occasionally, especially during those occasions. I guess that's kinda like someone denying they're gay the more they're pressured on it, but for gender? Although considering how social that aspect of it is, I think it's safe to say those people are neurologically no different than people who are genderfluid in the more common sense. Unless genderfluidity is separate from neurological gender, in which case that might actually explain how some genderfluid people prefer being gynomorphic over andromorphic and vice versa. TL;DR, I mention that Stupes is enby (atleast in the umbrella sense, and possibly genderfluid), then rant about whether or not a specific version of genderfluidity is neurological or psychological, and end up noting that it's (probably) neurological, specifically in the sense that it may not be the same as neurological gender, but rather a modifier, even if socially it is effectively a different gender to be a genderfluid than neurological gender, assuming genderfluidity isn't its own neurological gender.

Why is art valuable? Because it is worthless. Why is a car valuble? Because you can drive it to places, such as work. You go to work to get money. You get money to get the things you want. You get the things you want to be happy. But why do you want to be happy? Why is that the end goal? Maybe it's to stave off pain and experience life with more comfort? Or maybe it's 'just because'. If you give the Mona Lisa to a monkey, it would sniff and bite and lick it to see it it's food, then see if it can be a tool, lose interest, maybe break it or use the Mona Lisa as a bathroom, and leave. Because somewhat like happiness, art doesn't have an intrinsic value that lets you get/obtain something else. It IS the end goal, just because. We want it. And that's about it.
