Thank you guys 🙌 Some fun trivia. Since 93, a national radio station (Triple J) would let listeners vote on their top 100 for the previous year. - For 2003, this song charted at #9 (year of release) - In 2013, there was a Hottest 100 for the past 20 years. It charted at #4 They're from Adelaide, Australia. Originated in Blackwood, which is in the Adelaide Hills (hence the name). Glad you both enjoyed it.

These blokes were huge growing up. In outback Australia, we grew up with pub rock. Hilltop was how we realised we could listen to more than just our parents music. Born in 91, raised in Western Australia.

LOVE that you found Hilltop Hoods!! Welcome to the rabbit hole of Australian hip hop. Sit back and enjoy the ride! Also, I believe in this song the Nosebleed Section IS the front row. It's a twist on the typical use of the phrase and we all know how quick an excited elbow in the front can make your nose bleed. It's a song about the love of music and love for others that love music. That chorus I think is sampled from a song called "People in the Front Row". Australian hip hop really has its own flavor, and these guys are legends (and still releasing songs and touring). Can't wait for you to check out another one.

Yah, its about getting a broken nose from all the moshing. Theae guys only get brtter with age too. The walking in the sun/under stars duo are genuinely some of the most incredible albums. Some of those songs are so brilliant it hurts

Hilltop Hoods so good! Australia has some really outstanding hip hop artists and these guys are defitintely among them with many more great tracks (1955, I Love It, Still Standing, and Shredding the Balloon come to mind). Keep up the good work guys! And definitely check out Bliss n Eso as well for some more top quality Australian hip hop (sorry, too many good tracks to list.

Hell yea OZ rap. Bliss n Eso are dope af too. Nas, Xzibit, RZA, all have featured on their songs. Hilltop Hoods are legit too, they have gotten The Roots member Black Thought, underground legends Pharaoh Monch, & Chali 2na as well as appeared on a Cunninlynguists track. Yea this is not an official video, this song despite being one of their signature songs it strangely never got a video. Australia has a lot of incredibly dope MC's, sadly we only got to hear Iggy Azelia (who used a fake accent and American style). This was dropped in the early 2000's. The group been active since 97, and Australia has had Hip-Hop since the 80's but it really didn't get good til the 90's.

They wrote it like the Nosebleed section us right up the frint where actual nosebleeds can iccur from jumping around in the mish pit. They grew up in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia hence the name Hilltop Hoods. This track blew them up because it was so catcchy it was played in every radio station across Australia ❤

Love this song, mainstream hit in Australia in 2003, old school hip hop. These boys are now in their mid 40s and still releasing bangers. Cosby Sweater and Leave Me Lonely are the best!

The front row is the nose bleed section (that's where you will be smashed by the moshers). In Australia "Monopoly money" would usually mean greenbacks, because they all have the same colour and therefore look like Monoply money, unlike Aussie money where every denomination is a different colour (and size).

The nosebleed section is actually up the back where people may have hit their head on a low ceiling. They do sing about their people in the front row from that section. A sample of Melanie's song.

Originally the nosebleed section is the cheap seats right up in the highest farthest part of the theatre or stadium. Nosebleeds referring to the altitude making your nose bleed…. However this changed to mean the front rows in Australia with the advent of the ‘mosh pit’ in the 90’s where everyone gets elbows and headbutts to the face causing nosebleeds 😂😂😂. It could refer to both in this track.

i think in the context of the song monopoly money is fake money, if you consider they also say they by now they should have had some land and some money in their hand but they got nothing, it wouldnt make sense to then they they have 500k usd. im aussie and always known monopoly money as fake money or money from asia where you have a large number but its worth nothing.

The hilltops have been long time staple of aussie hiphop. They were the guys that were the face when it emerged from the depths, they brought it into the sunlight, and they passed it onto the current generation to keeep going, but they keep them on their toes. Theyre considered legends here. Even by people that dont like them

Hilltops are probably Australia's biggest hiphop act, but I could be wrong. They certainly were at one point. If you're up for some more skiphop (Aussie hiphop), this is Bliss n Eso with Tear the Roof Off (feat Watsky).

These guys were huge growing up here in Australia! Love these guys! If you get a chance, another aussie guy has just done a remake of this song. Same soundtrack, but he sings about being an aussie bogan doing burnouts. It's a bit of a parody, without being disrespectful to the original. Its a great listen. If you wanna check it out, it's called "burnout section" by "burd brain" Enjoy your content guys. From outback Western Australia 🇦🇺

The original song was from a song called "in the front row" by Melanie. Apparently, the story goes like this: the main guy bought the album it was on (garden in the city), he absolutely loved it, so he sampled it. He named it the nosebleed section as not only a tribute to the song, in the front row, but also to put a classic Aussie touch to it, as Aussies, we are ironic by nature. The hilltop hoods singer put out a tribute to Melanie earlier this year when she passed, and revealed this story. Fun fact: the singer always bought a copy of The Garden in The City album whenever he saw it for sale in the shops

That first cut to the crowd is at the Big Day Out at the Adelaide Showgrounds in 2005. I was there. The Hilltop Hoods were from the Adelaide Hills. We loved them. I can't bounce like that anymore. :)

I’m a huge Layne fan. Been watching you guys for awhile. Love you guys. Came across a band called chout. Singer sounds almost exactly like Layne. They are from Chicago and also do tributes to Layne. Layne’s mom met him. I would check out “ out of time “ it’s insanely close to Layne. I highly recommend checking this out

I'm born and raised in Tacoma WA. I have never heard of this group so I bet they aren't from here! And yes the crips did have a shootout with a ranger, there are videos on RU-vid about it! I was only like 7 at that time so I don't remember much about it. The rangers did "win" though and didn't get into trouble when the police finally did show up. The city was out of control in the early 90s with gang activity the cops were scared, under staffed and wasn't sure how to deal with such issues and as a result they didn't do much

Hilltop hoods = bunch of kids from up in the Adelaide hills. Honestly Adelaide had some hectic gang drama in the 90s and a real affinity for hood culture. But the hoods were just talented artists. Sort of 😂 (still are btw)

Aussie band & I was fortunate enough to catch part of their set live in Sydney about 12 years ago & they were amazing live! Sure as hell made Eminem look like shit!!! Not that it would have been difficult, he was rubbish live.
