That's what hits me about this song. The first thing most people think about when you say "chalk outline" is death. But I think at its most basic the chalk outline is something that says "this is a space where a person used to be". And that's so much what it can feel like being medicated; you need it to function but it can make you feel like your body is just filling a space where a person used to be.
Last night "Suicide" dropped, i think each and every one of us who watched the premiere cried like a baby. Even if you can´t relate to how he felt or what he went through, the way he puts it, it´s impossible not to feel your heart shrinking.

If it makes you feel it so deeply, it's true. That's what art does. Chinchilla's voice added a scream - a beautiful, melodic scream, but still a scream of pain. It's amazing. Great comment on hip hop. Real isn't just about swagger and trash, and how bad ass you can be, or how skeptical of the world. Thank you for recognizing that and speaking to it in your own work. I think a lot of performers are so out of touch with the things really driving them that they can't get there. It takes a supreme act of courage to face your own demons, and that's only the beginning.
You need to check out his band, The Big Push. They do a lot of covers, notably I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop. It's a palate cleanser from his more somber tunes you've listened to so far. Check out War Pigs, Love Will Tear Us Apart, and then Ren did several busking songs with Sam Tompkins. Really shows off his range and talent
This song gets me every time...and I've watched this video at least 50 times. Chinchilla's voice cuts right to your soul. She is amazing. How To Be Me live should be on your to do list. Another collab between Ren and Chinchilla.
I would like to draw attention to the band Nevermore!It's a very underrated progressive Metal band with one of the best guitarists of the world (Jeff Loomis,who also did most of the lyrics and plays now with Arch Enemy since Nevermore split up) and an amazing singer (Warrel Dane who sadly died a few years ago)! Composition,lyrics,musicianship,storytelling...all outstandingly good. I'm sure you as a music lover would totaly enjoy it! I'm almost 50 now and a metalhead since I was 12,so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to metal! And Nevermore are one of the best bands I have ever heared! I would love to see you giving them a try, even if it's not the most known band out there!But their nickname 'the best band you've never heared from' comes not from nothing!Cause thats always what people say who listen to them the first time... 'Sentient 6' or 'This Godless Endeavor' would be great to react and analyze! Both masterpieces!

Ren does something beyond music and lyrics and visuals that when put together just have this timing that hit like a natural frequency that causes chills and feelings on a physical level somehow too.
right on fellas! This is one of the most powerful ballad type songs ive ever heard. Their harmonies and chemistry are just infectious. The song is so genuine and powerful yet manages to still have a "pop" structure as in it has that classic song pattern - verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus out. That structure is familiar and pleasing and easy to be fake and superficial but not the case with this song. He took a tried and true pop formula and made something profound, honest, and beautiful. Check out more Chinchilla solo stuff. I think she will surprise you in all the good ways. Peace.

Yes. The words and the music are wonderful. But, the connection that he's been able to thread between us (all while dealing with his illness and his mental issues at the same time...) is really the most important thing. I can relate to this song so just like you I cried when I first heard this song. When ou become depend ant on these habits you feel like your dead inside, but obviously still alive and almost listlessly going through the motions of life. It becomes such a damn habit to feel dead inside that when you do have a good day, you fall into wanting to take something because it justfeels so surreal that you feel almost undeserving of it. finally, I’ve been there too with pushing it down with a great big smile, not because I’ve felt it appropriate for how I was feeling, but mainly because it was expected of me for the sake of not having others worry about me. living like this at some point felt like being a ghost. people know your there, they sometimes can see you, but when they reach out you "poof" disapear " and hide away in your comfort zone.

Her song “Little Girl Gone” was #1 on the iTunes Chart the day it came out (or next day, can’t remember for sure - back in April I think) and she produced it!! More greatness from Chinchilla to check out - “Fingers” (there’s a live version and a music video, the Live is STUNNING and the music video is awesome. It’s almost like 2 different songs. Absolutely recommend checking both out!) and also “Elements” - Lyric Video (it’s more than a lyric video, but that’s the title) and one more thing, she and Ren duet on “How to Be Me” and it is phenomenal. I purchased this from "Apple Music...the cover image is a black background with a white drawing of the serotonin molecule. I was floored. It gave new meaning to the song....the line, "erase ourselves in a chalk outline," is what happens when you erase chalk on a blackboard, what happens when you are given more and more pills for psychotropic "conditions."....his condition being undiagnosed Lyme disease. He was given wrong after wrong after wrong diagnoses with unending medications which did nothing but make him sicker for years. The blending of their voices, the acapella of his and Chinchilla's voices, the power of her voice, is masterful. One take in a place with good acoustics. Wishing that taking a pill at night will help you wake up a new person in the morning....a good day as something not to be enjoyed because you know it's not going to last....As usual, Ren writes lyrics that are multilayered. And, lastly, what I love about Ren is that in every single song, the lyrics, vocalization and instruments are intentional. There are no mistakes. He is a master and a gift to all of us.
