If you're doing Sepultura, consider "Territory" or "Refuse/Resist". If you're doing Soulfly, check out "No Hope=No Fear", "Fire", Tribe", and "No" from the self titled album.
This type of martial art is called Capoeira, it was created by Africans at the time of slavery in Brazil and became one of the greatest fighting styles in the world based on the city of Salvador, which is where I even live.
I think this is definitely a good introduction for you guys for Sepultura! Although in my opinion, whilst Roots has some of their most diverse and eclectic instrumentation which I could happily listen to songs like Ratamahatta all day long, a fair amount of the album was merely but okay. I would say that their definitive album is Chaos Ad with songs like Refuse / Resist, Amen, Territory, and also an amazing cover of The Hunt by New Model Army! So I would delve deeper in to this album for sure :) Of course never forget the immaculate greatness that is Arise - them at their most death metal! And also albums like Beneath The Remains, Schizophrenia, etc.
I swear me and my wife both said when we saw the video title "didn't they already do this song" and I went back and found nothing it tripped us both out!!!🤯😨
@@kotycassidy6955 THEY DID!!! I remember so extremely clearly that they did this already! I'm thinking that video got deleted somehow and now one knew about it or something.
This is closer to the soulfly era than their early shit. They were called south american Slayer. You need to check out Troops of Doom, Desperate Cry, even Chaos AD stuff. Max also did Nailbomb with their monster song Sick Life. But Desperate Cry dammit
You guys have done soulfly which is mostly in the style of this Era of Sepultura... probably why you remember this video, their styles are very similar.
Sepultura started with a more death/black metal (Bestial Devastation and Morbid Vision albums) sound before transitioned into thrash metal (starting from Schizophrenia album) exclusively, During Chaos AD album they started incorporating some tribal elements, but only the the follow up album Roots they experimented more into the tribal music and more groovy sound that people associate with nu-metal.
So nice - reminds me of my School-time - you should maybe try "Ratamahatta" as that was one of the first successful/more spreaded Metal songs that combines a "Origin"-Musiktaditon with Metal
This is the original line up max formed nailbomb before forming soulfly I seen sepultura in 1993 I was 15 at Glasgow barrowlands and it was fucking nuts then monsters of rock 94
Any song from the albums "Beneath the Remains", "Arise" or "Chaos A.D." your ears will explode. And the fight at the beginning is not Krav Maga, it's called "Capoeira". Today it is a dance with a strong appeal to Brazilian roots, which after being colonized by Portugal had African slaves and indigenous natives of South America as its workforce. Next time try "Dead Embryonic Cells". I doubt you guys won't move your neck.
I really appreciate your reaction in Sepultura.. I hope more will come..... Here is some great songs of them... :.. Teritory, Arise, Dead embrionic cells, iner self... And many others.. I mast mentioned one of the best instrumental song of all times : inquisition Symphony... By Sepultura... Really mast check that😘✌️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘❤️
They were straight up thrash metal in the 80’s then they incorporated some groove in the early 90’s. Then you had Roots in 96’ which is more groove/nu-metal with folk elements. After Roots Max Cavalera left the band and focussed on Soulfly which was straight up Nu-Metal. Sepultura continued with a new vocalist but never got to the level they once were with Max
Sepultura actually already started in 1984 in Brazil (yes, they're all from there), back then as a thrash metal band. Their early albums Beneath The Remains (1989), Arise (1991) and Chaos A.D. (1993) were all great, you should check out songs like Dead Embryonic Cells, Inner Self, Kaiowas, Territory or Refuse / Resist to get a glimpse of how good they were in those days. The album Roots (of which this here is the title track, released in 1996) marked a change in style for them since they implemented brazilian rhythms and drums into their music which made them become quite unique in the metal landscape at that time. The album became their greatest success and was even listed by the Rolling Stone magazine in their 2004 list of the 500 best albums of all time (one of a few real metal album in that list at that time). Max Cavallera left the band in the same year though because of the band not willing to renew their manager's contract (who actually was Gloria Cavalera, Max' wife). Max formed Soulfly a year later.
They actually started out as Death Metal, then shifted to Thrash with Beneath, then shifted to Groove Metal with Chaos; not that that's a bad thing. Beneath the Remains and Arise are my favs!
FINALLY, from my country! :D Btw, Soulfly came to be after Max Cavalera (the lead singer in this song/video) left the band. It's all a mess, but actually he left cuz his wife was their manager and the rest of the band was not cool with that anymore. He formed Soulfly and after sometime Igor Cavalera (the drummer and Max's brother) left Sepultura and went on to Soulfy, and after that they also made a side project called Cavalera Conspiracy. EDIT: That's not Krav Maga, that's Capoeira. EDIT2: About the race stuff..... That's a pickle.... In Brazil, we're actually a mixed race. Me, being white as a paper sheet, do have black ancestors. Actually my grandfather's grandfathers were slaves. And it's most usual things goin like that. Max and Igor, with the surname CAVALERA, actually come from italian descent, they met the other guys in Sepultura living in Belo Horizonte City, capital of the state of Minas Gerais (Central/Southeast Brazil). BTW, after Max left, Sepultura got Derrick Greene, which is a 7ft tall black man that screams like he has a truck motor in his throat.
This band is special. I'm not as into the newer version, not that they're bad either. Igor and Max are magic. For me, I really feel the latin groove stuff on Soulfly and also the tribal beats and syncopated heaviness of Sepultura. Chaos AD is perfection IMO. That album is also super relevant.
@@NYC_Goody they continued with another lead vocalist after max left. They've dropped more albums than with the original line up but it's still not the same
Same here, But I must admit I never really gave The"New" Sepultura a fair Chance...Recently saw a video with their current drummer Eloy Casagrande ..Must admit Hes one of a kind (Hurts to say)
Dead Embryonic Cells was my intro to Sepultura way back on Headbangers Ball late one night and I was hooked! I think the only other band I latched onto so quickly even though a different rock genre is Kyuss when I saw “Green Machine!”
Brasil is one of the countries with more diversity in every way, including ethnicity. There's Japanese population, Italian, African, German, Portuguese, of course many native cultures like the Xavantes, other Latin American immigrants specially from Paraguay and the list goes on.
Sepulutura is amazing! The martial arts being practiced throughout the video here is Capoeira. It is a Brazilian martial art that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music. It was first practiced by enslaved Africans in Brazil at the beginning of the 16th century. They did this to keep practicing warfare in full view of their European captors in disguse. Very ingenious and it is still alive today. There is a studio just outside Detroit I've failed miserably at trying to learn the basics 😅
The quote at the beginning of the song is from Chinua Achebe, who was a writer from Nigeria. His most famous work was the novel Things Fall Apart. It was an indictment against colonialism and a reaction to Joseph Conrad's book Heart of Darkness. "Roots, Bloody Roots" is an indictment against colonialism in Brazil.
Maybe the confusion is coming from the Alien Weaponry band that you guys did like a year ago? I'm still kinda new to the channel and I just recently watch that reaction the other day for the first time. And in my opinion the singer from Alien Weaponry sounds like a young Max Cavalera.
Bros, you will encounter the most amazing love from Sep fans. Follow up on this band and all of Max's projects. As far as Numetal connection to sepultura, all the Numetal bands listened to sepultura as influences. #BiotechIsGodzilla
Sepultura is Just Like Pantera They're both groove metal and they also do some thrash liek slayer exoudus but now Frontman Max Cavalera Left the Band in '96 and Formed Soulfly and Also Cavalera Conspiracy Both bands Have Nu Metal and Groove Metal Fill to it!!
Max always does live streams on fb playing through with his songs He does Sepultura, Nailbomb, Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy and lives in Arizona now His sons have their own bands and do perform with him in Soulfly as well Sons Zyon and Iggor play in Lody Kong and his stepson Richie fronts Incite but they all jump in with each other at times and Zyon also plays drums in Soulfly since 2012
Shout-out the Deftones shirt, you mean? 😂 Yep, he was a huge fan of Deftones in 1996 already. Their debut Adrenaline and Korn's self-titled inspired Sepultura to do Roots. Deftones at the time had unofficial Deftones/Dickies shirts. But I'm sure they sold some during shows or something because people had them back then. But they only ever admitted to going to a store to have them made for themselves. I dunno. I bought one on eBay, good quality. What's dope is they definitely collaborated with Dickies years later.
While this is good, this is not the Sepultura you're looking for. Check out "Arise", "Dead Embryonic Cells" or anything from the Chaos AD album. Also, the guitarist, Andreas Kisser is probably the best wah thrasher to even take the crown from Kirk Hammett of Metallica if he was given the credit he deserved. Y'all really need to check out the album "Roadrunner United" so many gems from band collabs that you've already covered on this channel. You'll be blown away on how they sound together. Max on "Independent (Voice of the Voiceless)" and Andreas' solo on "Baptized in the Redemption" with Dez Fafara on vocals and Paul Gray on bass is amazing.
I love this band. I obsessed about them for years, starting about 1994. One of the best live bands I've ever seen. They started in the mid 80s when they were just teenagers. One could argue that these guys were one of the primary influences that began nu metal. Please react to Dead Embryonic Cells, Refuse/Resist, Desperate Cry, Territory, or Attitude.
You Guys a re liars (jk) if you had read my comment you would know that sepultura is the cornerstone of nu metal, the album roots (the last one with Max cavalera) was a breaktrhough moving from thrash metal to nu metal. Sepultura was formed by the cavalera brothers Max & Igor and they are actually Italians (from their fathers side), they started out as a death metal band and then transformed into thrash metal band, nowadays they are considered a nu metal band. Max split after the roots album cause of managerial issues and formed soulfly, a few years later his brother left too and together they formed another band called Cavalera Cospiracy (you should definitly check them out). Both soulfly & cavalera conspiracy are active bands. My suggestion would be to go a bit further back and check their thrash metal years ( they should be in the big 4 instead of antrax I.M.O.) any song you pick from Chaos A.D., Beneath the Remains & Arise albums is a masterpiece, you cant go wrong. P.S. a bit of history here all south american countries were colonised (concuered/slautered) by the spanish thats why all of them speak spanish, except from Brazil that was colonized by the portugese, now all the black folks down there are decentants of slaves brought to the americas by africa and the latin looking dudes are decendants of the natives (mayas, Incas etc.) ofcourse after all these years there has been some mixing between the races. P.S. 2 Max Cavalera is the best harsh vocalist in the universe and Igor cavalera is in my top 5 drummers of all times
Other great song is Attitude, and has an official clip, and it’s from the album Roots too! Another great music from this album is Lookaway, this song has participation from Jonathan Davis form Korn, Mike Patton from Faith no More and Dj Lethal from Limp Bizkit! Another great song is called Pain from Soulfly with participation of Chino Moreno from Deftones. Ps.: Now the oldest classic is called ARISE! This is the clip That has the Christ in the begging.
From what I remember Max was pretty messed up at the time he left his brother and rest of the band in Sepultura to start Soulfly, wanting to go in a more spiritual and tribal direction with his music while the rest of Sepultura wanted to go back to their original harder and heavier sound after placating Max with the previous album. Refuse/Resist is a classic Sepultura sound while Rattamahatta was more the direction Max wanted to head...can't go wrong with either song IMO. I think if Max could go back in time, he would probably do a Maynard and just have seperate bands with differing creative outlets, and perform with both bands. But that wasn't the done thing back then...if you wanted to play in another band too you were out, a-la Jason Newstead and Metallica.
