Allen here - I'm so glad you guys enjoyed this song! The comment you made about needing to share this was spot on. One of the best things about Soen is that you really can just pick a song at random off of any of their four albums and enjoy it - I feel I can say that about very few bands. The other requests for their songs in this thread are all awesome choices. I would also add "Sectarian", "Savia", "Opal", and "Vitriol" to the fray. A little background: Soen is a Swedish band. As you dive more in to metal, you'll quickly find that a ton of absolutely great bands come from there (and Scandinavia in general). Their drummer (Martin Lopez) was from Amon Amarth and Opeth and I personally think is one of the best metal drummers of all time (this is neatly showcased in Soen's "The Other's Fall"). Following his career was what led me to Soen when he formed the band. I'll also mention that for their third album, they brought in Marcus Jidell (Avatarium, Evergrey) to do guitars. I've always absolutely loved his tone and love what he brought to that album. Avatarium is another relatively unknown band you will really want to check out! I always struggle with which song by them to recommend to people. Today, I'll go with "Pandora's Egg". As other commenters mentioned, you absolutely need to check out Opeth. My main motivation for picking Soen over them was because I thought someone else was much more likely to mention Opeth and I'm really surprised nobody really had. Other commenters mentioned "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" and "Ghost of Perdition" - excellent choices. Other must-listens are "Blackwater Park", "The Grand Conjuration", and "Godhead's Lament".
Huge thanks to you dude Spent an hour or so checking out songs on their channel and bought their Lotus album. Raising a glass of the good stuff to you Slainte Mhath
Another band you need to listen that isn't getting recommended is Ne Obliviscaris. Check out their track Inta Venus, it's a good gateway into their music
@@Hollywood6IX I love seeing you guys react to music I've known and loved for years, some of it I'd forgotten about and every now and again I hear something new or see and hear these things from a different perspective! Loving all the reactions, especially Tool Tuesday's. You should check out Maynard's other band, Puscifer. Also, take a look at Skindred for something different that blends reggae and metal perfectly! 😁
If you guys liked this, you should check out a band called Riverside. I would recommend starting with one of their newer songs like "Escalator Shrine" to start out with checking them out if you've never heard them. Great reaction to this one, I love Soen!
@@Hollywood6IX As far as Opeth goes and their drummer being in this band, specifically look at songs from the albums Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries, or Deliverance, to get a feel of what they were all about during that time. Keep up the great work guys!
Beautiful! I love the musical rythum of this song. Gives a relaxing state of euphoria and solace. It's a shame people who are not open minded. They're missing out on so much. We are the lucky ones because we chose enlightenment through all music.🤘😊
Soen is one of my top 5 favorite bands, I can't wait for you to listen to more of them and I'm so glad you enjoyed em so much! You should check out their track MARTYRS off their newest album!
Love the videos guys, I have a few suggestions for good intro songs to bands that you might enjoy. And I know I suggested two live versions, but I think they give the better intro to these songs and the bands. And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope(live in Denver) by Ne Obliviscaris. Harlequin Forest(live at the Royal Albert Hall) by Opeth. Graves by Caligula's Horse. Even if you don't make videos of them, give the songs a try. Enjoy guys.
Sorry I asked you about this band in your live session today:) Didn't see you have reacted to Soen already. They are often compared to Tool, and there's something there, but they also have that Opeth vibe from the drummer, and they've evolved much from their first album. Great band in it's own right.
Listen to the band Hum. GREAT 90's band that has influenced shoe-gaze, stoner rock, and space rock. Influenced Deftones - White Pony as well. The song "Stars" was their mid-90s hit, which is probably a good place to start. However, they just put out a surprise new album this week and it fucking kicks ass.
Been listening to them since their first album. First album sounded almost like Tool. They've developed their own sound since then. They're very talented musicians and most of their tracks are solid. You should definitely be getting into to them further. I look forward to your Tool reaction tomorrow. Tool Tuesday! lol Cheers!
More Soen please. It's been a while since you reacted to this one. 4 albums, no bad songs. Please react to another one, 'The Other's Fall', from this album, or Lucidity from their Lykaia album. Or any song from any of their albums.
I really feel like your Soen journey should continue. They’ve done 4 x 10/10 albums for me and are just ridiculously underrated. Song/s from each album as follows. Savia and last light. The words. Lucidity and Opal. Martyrs and lotus.
Thumbs up brothers Have you listened to Narcissistic code by Rishloo? Amazing lyrical song with great feeling to it. Do yourself a favour all of yall!🙂
They started off as a Tool ripoff band. They acknowledge that tool created a new genre of metal. Oscillation is basically a mix of Jambi and the Pot. Trust me, you will hear it from the start.
I tend to disagree. The drummer from this group is a member of opeth who formed a year before tool and who were developing their own sound at the same time tool were. This band is a supergroup made up of excellent members of the Swedish metal scene and this song is very reminiscent of the Ghost Reveries era Opeth. The singer also has a similar vocal quality to the lead vocalist from opeth when singing melodically rather than growling. Though they may acknowledge that tool created their own genre of rock/metal (which noone can deny as its very true) i think their influences come more from their own original bands than from copying tool.
I quote: „Yes, we like Tool and we are influenced by them a little. They are a great band. Just listen to Oszillation, basically a mashup of Jambi and The Pot. There are more and more original with each album, but Cognitive was really a Tool Ripoff, and I mean that in the most positive way 😁
