Rapsodo MLM2 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions 

Right on. I think people are really going to love it. For the price, I don't think it can be beat. The Impact Camera and the ability to use your phone/tablet as a secondary camera to get face on or down the line views of your swing is a game changer.

@@thefitclubnetwork frankly, the impact camera seems more like a gimmick. For the purpose of reading spin, it's a great addition. But a slow-ish motion capture of the back of the club at impact really doesn't provide much value. It's like an ultra-macro version of what Mevo+, BLP, GC3, etc. do. To your larger point, it would be a great value if they didn't lock spin behind a paywall. After a few years of shelling out $200, you're nearly into Mevo+ territory. But with R10 resale value.

I felt the same way Rick. Then, I tried it. If you have the ball in the right spot (there is a white box along the line), it's actually pretty helpful. I particularly like it for Driver. I tend to hit it a little off the heal, and the Impact Camera is really helpful for me to see that and try to catch it more on the middle of the face. But, I agree the spin is the primary reason for it.

@@thefitclubnetwork yeah, I don't think it has zero value. Just think that if it weren't for the fact it reads spin, the impact camera would be perceived far more like a novelty.

How is the accuracy looking on it ? Not just spin, but distance, ball flight etc etc. Can’t wait to see a comparison against something like a GC3.

I did a short review on the Mobile Camera feature that's on the channel. I've been insanely busy with work and just haven't had time to put together an in depth review. Just a regular Joe over here who got tapped to participate in this program.

Hey Kirk - Solid Q. Have not tried that, but I can later today. I haven't needed to. The battery on the MLM2 is insane. I have a Gen 9 iPad that I use in my garage. Yesterday, I had both charged 100% and was out there for a long time. End of the session: iPad 20% remaining. MLM2 60% remaining. I had to charge the original MLM before every session. I charge the MLM2 every few sessions. I've been using it a lot. Hitting about 150 shots per day, so I've taxed it. The battery pack is a good idea if you have old iPad like mine tho. ;)

I think they just wanted a group of regular users to put it through the paces to better understand how we are using the device and work out any issues. There are about 40 of us and a pretty broad cross section of ages, genders, and handicaps, so I think that's what they were going for.

@@thefitclubnetwork Got my MLM2 Pro today. Connectivity issues. Won’t stay connected to any Apple device. I knew this was too good to be true.

Were you able to update the App and the Firmware on the unit? If you connect to it directly (not via your wifi network) it's a lot easier. The latest Firmware update has helped a lot. I have a firewall of some kind on my router that I'm working with them to sort out, so I have always been connecting directly and it's been very stable for me.

No issues in my garage. I've tried it with the lights on and off and the garage has windows where light intrudes late in the day. No issues. Just posted a new video showing the multiple camera angles using a phone/tablet.

You really have to use the RPT balls to get accurate spin numbers. The app has settings for "Range Balls", "Premium Balls" or "Rapsodo Balls".

My gamer is the ProV1. I've tested it with range balls, ProV1 and the RPT ball (net). It also accounts for elevation, which is a plus.

Biggest difference, besides the Premium features, would probably be the Mobile Camera. It gives you the ability to use your phone/tablet as an additional camera, which you can move around. It's great for me, because I'm working on specific swing changes and being able to see my swing from down the line and face on is so helpful. @@thefitclubnetwork I’m not trying to bash it….I have one pre-ordered. But there are plenty of free apps for recording your swing from different angles. I’m just wondering if there’s any actual useful data you get from the 2 without a subscription that you can’t get from the 1? It seems that this is just the exact same as the 1 if you don’t pay for the subscription.

Oh no, I get it. Totally valid question. I used the original MLM for over a year without the subscription. There are a lot of apps you can use to record your swing, the big difference is that now you have the same swing from three views (unit, Impact Cam, Mobile Cam). Whether that is worth it or not is going to be an individual decision. I suspect that's why they included 1 year of the sub in the purchase price. I've never really been interested in the Sim golf and now I'm addicted to Awesome Golf. Still really focused on just improving my swing, but it is pretty fun.

It's coming. We are really testing here, so right now I just have the green light to show the unit unboxing. It's pretty rad. Was hitting shots into 17 at Sawgrass in my garage earlier.

Yeah. I thought the same. I usually have mine on a tripod, so I can use the camera in the tablet/phone as a third view. Check out the latest video for how that works. One of my favorite features.

I can't share any videos just yet, but I can report that it works very well. You don't get spin numbers without the Callaway RPT balls, but otherwise it's fantastic. The ability to put your phone/tablet on a tripod and use it as an additional camera, along with the unit and the two cameras it has, is amazing. As soon as they give me the green light, I'll upload.

@@thefitclubnetwork curious if the available numbers are more accurate than the older MLM. Also wondering how it compares to a BLP or Trackman. Accurate carry numbers for me is most important.

I don't have access to BLP or Trackman unfortunately. Outside my price range. I've seen other reviews where the numbers were pretty good, and I see if maybe I can find one. They are building a Top Golf here in San Diego, but it's not going to be done for a long time. I might see if I can schedule some practice time at GolfTec, which I believe uses Foresight.

GolfTec usually is Foresight GCQuad in main teaching areas, GC2 in practice bays.

Good question. I'll ask the Admins and see if I can get a confirmation. My belief is that you do not need the Premium to get the spin data (you will need the Callaway RPT ball), but I'll see if I can get a more firm answer on that one.

Spin is locked behind the $200/yr paywall, which is honestly a bummer and pretty messed up. The unit can calculate spin, but they’re not gonna show you the numbers unless you pay them more money.

Confirmed that Spin is part of the Premium sub. You get a year with the device. I'm going to see how I'll use it and make that decision later. Spin numbers aren't something I'm super obsessed about. The simulated stuff is kind of entertaining, but I really use this to assess my swing and the changes that I'm going through right now. I don' t know if that will change or not. If the rain in San Diego becomes a new normal, it probably will.

@@thefitclubnetwork So it might not show your spin "numbers" but would it still be used in the calculation to simulate ball flight, fade/draw/etc. when using the practice range for example. That would TOTALLY SUCK if that was not the case. I also wonder if a different app like Awesome Golf would show spin numbers.

Just an unboxing right now. Testing and providing feedback is the primary task now. As soon as, they tell me it's ok, I'll share a ton. The extra camera views are just awesome.

Me too. LOL Very much in the testing phase now. Experience on the range has been really good. My garage is limited to short irons, and I'm a big range rat, so that's most of how I'll use it.

Yeah. They have said you could do that, but they felt accuracy might be off if the dots smudge the way Sharpies do. But, hey, let me know if you pull it off. I might buy one from you!

@@thefitclubnetwork yeah, I'd imagine the dots on the RPT balls are much more durable. But also beyond that couldn't imagine there was anything "special" that would inherently make them read better than a sharpie. FWIW, I stopped using Sharpies and instead use a brand called Marki. Seems to work better than a sharpie. Lasts quite a bit longer. Doesn't seem to smudge as much either. But the best solution may ultimately be to use adhesive dots, instead of a permanent marker. 🤷‍♂

The dots on the balls are the same enamel (or whatever it is) used for the logo. Very durable. Thanks for the Marki info. I'll hunt one down. I put lines on my ball for putting and the smudging drives me NUTS!

@@thefitclubnetwork no problem. I ordered them from a place called pink golf tees. Amazon has them, but they're like 3 times more expensive. They aren't perfect. But I've found them to be better than sharpies. Colors and blacks are also more vibrant.
