You got a new subscriber from me!!! And I don’t skip the adds…. Man thank you so much for the videos on the raptor!!!! I’m not the best mechanic and don’t know everything about 4 wheelers and don’t really have people to help me figure things out…. So thank you again and please keep making these educational videos on the raptor!!!
Amazing video bro!! Very clear explanation and everything is referenced back to factory specs!! You do a great job at pointing out the objects you are speaking about so it is clear for us viewers to understand what you are referencing. I just got an abused 03 raptor and I'm sure I'll be watching more of your videos. This one video made a subscriber out of me!
Hey thanks for the video wlked me right thru timing my bike . Just got a 01 raptor 660 needed a bunch of work and with your videos was able to do it with minimal effort 👌 💪 🙂 thanks again 👍 😀
Hi, straight to the point instructions. I've watched your videos before but never worked on the same machines. I've got a 2003 Grizzly 660 with the same setup. Three intake and two exhaust. I had to replace the head because the last owner never had any service done to the cooling system. My issue is that the tappets seem to keep moving away instead of tightening up since the exhaust and the intake share the same lifter. My service manual doesn't explain this and not really any video will explain this either. Hope I'm not confusing you or anyone else who reads this and can reply back to me. thanks
Every system is different, some tappets tighten up with use and some loosen, mine tend to tighten up and close off the clearance. As long as you check your valves every 5 or so long rides you should be fine, if its loosening up well before that and/or making noise, it might not be a bad idea to put some blue loctite on it and torque it to spec next time.
Hey, very nice video, you certainly know what you're doing, I wish I could say the same about me. I have an 05 660 that cut off on me, I took the plug out and the electrode was broken off, and I can only turn the crankshaft about 180 both ways with a socket till it comes against. And while I'm turning the crankshaft, the valves do NOT move, like not at all. What the heck do I do now?! Thanks
Hey bud are responding questions , just message you .. I did followed your procedures and I hear valves ( metals ) loud sounding can you show us how the engine has no Run ( the noise ) with the valves adjusted please ..
I had the Niche cylinder kit too. Head gasket failed after a few hours. Like everyone else, the sleeve dropped causing the failure. If you want a good kit, BP racing is where to buy. The cylinder kits come with studs, not bolts and the sleeves don't drop. Pistons are top quality. I got a Wossner 102mm piston in my kit that alone costs $180.
@@FPVSlacker I tried sending you an email a few times but it kept saying failed, wanted to see what else you ended up doing with your 660. Do you happen to still have photos of the cylinder dropping and your entire kit? Plan on doing an update video in the niche stuff and would love to use your photos for reference
I cannot get my timing set right it will turn over once in time and then just turns easy like it jumped into a tooth but it did not it's still in time with the crank and the cam sprocket.. 🤬
I mean any engine will have unburnt fuel come out the exhaust when deaccelerating, you'll just hear them better with an open exhaust lol but yes, your valves could be tight and too open allowing more fuel to go out the exhaust than normal
i had a question boss. it seemd that my intake side middle valve seems pretty compressed when at TDC. It does not give me enough clearents to run the run down when I have enough clearence for spec. any suggestions?
New subscriber. I know some people might not answer these questions and its fine if you dont. I just got a raptor 660r and need a valve adjustment. How much will this work cost?
@@Hunters_Mechanics i will do this after i have Split the Engine . Unfortenally IT seems that my 5th Gear IS Not BE able too Shift Up into the 5th Gear. The Thing is that i belive the 5th Gear Driving claw has broken Off . I found a big mangled chunk of IT inside the Clutch area . After i fixed IT i will Put the Engine Back together and then i will directly Check the valves aß Long the Engine is Out .
@@Daszebi98 it's good that you found that issue! But I highly recommend to adjust the valves while the engine is out, the exhaust valves are a pain in the ass to get to while it's inside the chassis
@@Hunters_Mechanics yes man i Figured IT Out aß i watched this Video . Why couldnt they Just make the Same Covers Up that Side Like IT was in the Other side tho
Question my quad turned off with in 5 minutes. At first I thought it was the break cable since all the symptoms were similar to those issues. They I started taking it apart and I noticed that the valves got loose. I re adjusted the valves and the quad worked good for around 5 minutes and now I believe that the clearance moved again. Do you have any tip of what could be causing this issue?
@@jorgevirgen1660 did it make any noise? Loose valves make a pretty distinctive tapping but should still run, even if its poor. Its a possibility that the Amazon valves aren't sealing properly, did you inspect them/have a machine shop do any valve work or did you just assemble them as is? Any smoke come out when it quit?
Yes it makes a rattle noise. I didn't check the valves I got them new from Amazon and took it to a small shop. I adjusted the valves again and it seems to last a little longer. But the rattle noise is still there, but I haven't seen smoke.
I've got a video on my page if you need help setting it in time. I honestly do not know what the H is for, id assume its for 10° Before Top Dead Center for testing purposes of when the CDI will send the spark but don't quote me on that
Hey boss, I manage to run my quad for a while, but in around 2 hours of riding it overheat. I know there could be a lot of reason that it overheat but other then the coolent what other reasons could cause this. I rebuild the water pump, I got a new thermostat, I cleaned the radiator and didn't see no leakage, radiator fan works. Could the valves not been on spec cause this or maybe my oil pump, or not clutch properly. This is my first quad.
What did it do by "overheating"? If your coolant flow is good, you shouldn't really have an over heating issue. It is a possibility you're not getting good oil flow, have you done the oil pressure check with the small bolt on the side of head/valve cover? Holding the choke would just allow more fuel flow but shouldn't cause a dramatic overheating
@@jorgevirgen1660 Have you ever taken apart the carb and cleaned it/tuned it to run without the choke? You may have commented it someone but RU-vid doesn't notify me half the time of new comments
The carb is new from Amazon. I think it came out defected. In the heating issue I am thinking it could have something to do with the oil. I checked the coolant when the quad cool down and it was fine, but the oil box seems to be empty but I don't think it leak all the oil. I only see it leak from the crank breather hose. I am thinking that the oil pump is not pumping and that the oil is staying in the bottom and when the crankshaft moves that's when it leaks oil. Thanks for replying
Kind of hard to explain it, ive got a water pump rebuild video coming up next as soon as I edit it. Do you have the manual to see the diagram of the parts?
@@Hunters_Mechanics well I got one from online, but it doesn’t go in-depth with the position of the shaft or oil seal. What I seen was the tilt of the shaft
To bleed the system, you just open the radiator cap and run the ATV until you see the coolant boiling. It's a good idea to have several rags around the cap just in case it bubbles out. The thermostat sits underneath the radiator and is mounted to the frame there
Good information for on the bike adjustment, But to say you rebuilt the engine and now adjusting the valves while on the bike, You didn't rebuild the engine, As simply removing the head and or head and cylinder and removing just the head and cylinder isn't a rebuild, It's a very small freshen up
Go to the channel and look at the previous videos lol I split the block and had both case halves completely disassembled, even did a tranny rebuild video on this engine right before I did this valve adjustment video
