Detailed video about the process of cleaning the carbs, what jets to replace depending on the throttle range, main jet needle placement, and float adjustment. This video can be helpful for other ATV and small engine carburetors because they are setup up almost exactly the same. Questions/comments/concerns, ask below!

Any tips for sputtering on the low rev? When I’m on it in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear, no issues. But when I drop my rev down in any of those gears the bike wants to cut out on me. But the minute I give it more throttle, the issue goes away.

Quick question so I had my raptor 660 for about 3 day the old owner let it sit a lot and I took it in a ride day I got it ran great intel today once I got higher in the rpm it started acting like there was a rev limit not sure what causing it imma clean it out tomorrow see if that fixes it if it doesn’t should I put a bigger jet in it
@Hunters_Mechanics
@Hunters_Mechanics 3 года назад
If its been sitting for a awhile, it could just be a clogged jet. I'd start by throughly cleaning all the jets and passages and if that doesn't work, do some simple maintenance work like spark plug, valve adjustment etc
@shanelong7776
@shanelong7776 2 года назад
I just picked up a 02 raptor 660 with aftermarket carbs, when I bought the bike it wouldn’t idle and it would cut out around quarter to half throttle. So I messed with the two air fuel ratio screws and got it to idle. But in the transition from quarter to half throttle it starts back firing and bogging down and dies. It’s been cleaned and looks super clean and I’m running race fuel to hopefully clean anything out because it’s sat for around a year without being ran. I’ve had a mechanic look and mess around with it for several hours and he wasn’t quite sure what to do.
@Hunters_Mechanics
@Hunters_Mechanics 2 года назад
So it's fine after half throttle to WOT? The pilot jet is what controls the fuel off the throttle to roughly 30% of the throttle, if its backfiring, does it appear to be black smoke coming out the exhaust and/or smell like excess fuel? Could be too big of a pilot jet, or just overlooked and may still be slightly clogged. What does the spark plug look like? When was the last time the valves were adjusted? Just a few points and questions to ask to maybe solve your problem, let me know what goes on!

Thanks for the video, just purchased a new carb for my 660. I am curious, the atv boggs down at 1/2 throttle, but otherwise runs great. I did no adjustments to the new carb. Will adjusting just the diaphragms help with it running lean at WOT?

Did you swap the jets over from the old carb to the new one? And yes, adjusting the diaphragm will help it run lean or rich at WOT. The lower the position on the needle the more rich you get, the higher - more lean

I'm hoping you can help me figure this out, by the way the video was on point. I bought a new carb off Amazon (1PZ) got it tuned in per this video, I got both air/fuel screws 3 turns out (I've also tried 2 and 2.5 turns) and I've adjusted the needles ever way you could think of. Left carb needle is set on the 3rd notch from bottom, and right carb on the 1st notch from bottom or I can do this in reverse left and right carb at the same position on the needles being left on 1 and right on 3 this is where I have found it to run the best. WITHOUT the air filter and lid on it runs excellent, with it all on it runs good until you go full throttle, then it's runs rough. Other than that it's perfect just seems like it needs more air or gas depending on which needle is set on the first notch. I have checked the valves and they in spec. Any idea what the problem would be. Any info would be appreciated THANKS. I tried to explain everything I've done without writing a book.
@Hunters_Mechanics
@Hunters_Mechanics 2 года назад
So let's use a little logic since you've actually followed the video and did some troubleshooting: If you took the air filter out and the lid off and it runs excellent, then you must be running too rich with the lid on since excess air makes it run better (which I am somewhat dealing with myself but waiting on a jetkit), have you tried swapping any jets yet, mainly the main jets to a smaller size and then trying it? I am currently running the largest jet I have and it's definitely too much because when I run without the lid and air filter it absolutely hauls ass down the road lol also as a side note to check, when was the last time you changed/gapped your spark plug? With the issues and diag that you did, it shouldn't affect much but could be something to also look at
@shanewoods9950

I have not changed any jets at the moment, I had to take a break from it because I was getting so frustrated at it, I will get back on it this weekend, also was going to wait and see if I would get a response lol (thinking it would be something simple), I got some jets I will try on it to see if that clears up. I forgot to mention that I changed coil and plug. It hauls ass without it lid. Also I didn't mention I run it with the lid on, without the filter, no change. You recommend changing main jets?

@@shanewoods9950 an easy fix that i know people do (that don't absolutely mud their quad or drive through insane puddles/creeks) is drilling holes in their lid. I don't know what raptor you have but the 660's don't have a 6th (unless the 700's do, I wouldn't know lol), if it works up until 4th decently well and not more than that, it sounds like you either need a larger main jet OR it could be a speed sensor. @Hunters_Mechanics
@Hunters_Mechanics 3 года назад
Unless you have a short somewhere, the reverse sensor shouldn't be an issue. Could always take that connector for it apart, ground the hot wire, then see if it'll rev higher. My float boats sit much lower than 13mm and I'm running the stock piston size, stock air box, and stock pipe with an aftermarket slip on and it EATS gas, like i said I'm running the largest jets i have lol. The easiest thing you can try (after the reverse grounding) it to run without the airbox lid on. Thats just a quick way I tried before to see if it needed less fuel or more. When I ran without the lid, it ran much worse so I knew I needed less air and more fuel. Other than that all I can say is pick and choose, she's a picky machine 😅
@generation-x406

That does sound like it might be the limiter. If I recall correctly the parking brake switch at the clutch also triggers the limiter. the switch might be faulty from years of crud. Okay so I had my ATV shipped in parts to where I am now (Pakistan) it’s a euro model. Since putting it back together I’ve had a few issues (I’ve gone by the manual guidebook. . Carb problem. I cleaned the filter out and doused it with engine oil to make it stick and I blowed and pumped air through the carb on taking the air filter out and little little bits of silver would come out and be visible in the petrol. Didn’t work! Overflow pipes are throwing out alot of fuel and to basically stop that and prevent it I’m having to leave the fuel on half or less than half on like literally a little up from off. Now I need to open up the carb and clean it n check the float levels. Can anybody guide me or give me any advice as where I am now there isn’t a mechanic or anyone who specialises in these machines so I’m gonna have to go about it myself. . I have a tooth on the front sprocket broken, which I think may have something to do with the bike not going in neural when switched on. My question is if I were to get it repaired as it’s only 1 tooth on the cog would it be okay or would it be best to replace the part as a whole (remember I’m in Pakistan there’s no part market for this and will be a long wait in the post) so could it be possible to repair that sprocket cog. The bike does go in neutral but only when switched off does not happen when started. . Choke problem. The chokes basically still too high or fast even at the lowest point as in the bike still warms up even when it doesn’t need to and then gradually heats to a point where the bike turns off and the cooling fan comes on. . Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks for reading, i will take pictures and upload in where I could get any assistance. .

@Hunters_Mechanics

I would start with the needle position first always, you may be able to make the minor adjustment needed from it's position without changing the jet, if no position changes help or it makes it worse, may need a bigger main jet

@Hunters_Mechanics

That's an issue I'd have to see to figure out what it is. If it runs better on the choke then you either have clogged jets/journals still or you need bigger jets.
