After going down 2-0 to the Bucks, this was a must-win game for the Raptors, and they absolutely played like it. Gasol had one of his best defensive games of the championship run with 5 blocks and incredible positioning, and Kawhi and Siakam had some signature steals to help lead the Raptors to the double-overtime win. A lot of people don't realize Embiid's dad was crucial in our playoff run last season especially in the Bucks series. In this video we can see Embiid's dad giving Giannis some of that fatherly love lol

Gasol is such a monster defensively, this teams defence was poetry in motion

He sort of reminds me of Fred Flintstone when he's defending. Remember on the show Fred has nimble feet when he's either bowling, or peddling his feet to drive? Gasol can shift his feet that quickly too, which is impressive for a guy that big and tall.

So you mean to tell me it was a complete team effort that shut down the Bucks' offense? It wasn't just Kawhi shutting down Giannis like the media outlets have reported? I'm shocked 😒. Sarcasm aside, great content.

@@sonysunny2147 that's your response? Despite the fact that 3 out of 5 starters on that championship roster were new to the team? Despite the fact that Pascal and Norm were only in their 3rd season. OG was only in his 2nd season. Not to mention Coach Nurse was a rookie head coach. Very enlightened.

Part of why the Raptors are able to close out so hard and put in so much effort on defence is because it doesn't matter if they get tired. Their bench is so good that they can rely on them, not just the starters.

This game really exemplifies the greatness of the 2018-19 Raptors defense. A diverse mix of traps, switching, zone, and lightning fast rotations, plus some great 1-on-1 D to make the opposition uncomfortable and take away easy options. As a very casual basketball fan, your videos are great to watch. You don't use too much jargon and it's easy to follow. Any chance you could do some offense-focused videos? Maybe breakdown how someone like Siakam can go back to back MIP(hopefully) and what he changed in his game?

I think we are going to see a lot more teams try to play defense like the Raptors, but I don't believe any other team has the collective BBIQ to pull of this kind of mind-meld defense. The way the centre can go over to double team Giannis no matter where he is and the rest of the team will immediately start rotating is just not something that can just be replicated.
@TooMuchHoops
@TooMuchHoops 4 года назад
Yeah, it requires a team with no weak links defensively both in terms of basketball IQ and skill level to pull it off. Getting on the same page for a rotation-heavy defense can be really difficult.
@CGoon1993
@CGoon1993 4 года назад
Nurse basically copied the budenholzer defensive blueprint which is to protect the paint first and cover perimeter second. Only difference is the raps players close out harder on shooting while bucks struggle to get out fast enough quite a bit
@TooMuchHoops
@TooMuchHoops 4 года назад
@@CGoon1993 Yeah, both teams pack the paint, but the Raptors rotate a lot more. Gasol is a lot more dynamic than Lopez, so the Raptors have more trapping and zone options that Brook just can't manage. But Lopez is great at what he does in their drop coverage.

I think the Toronto series highlighted that having an one dimensional offense doesn't work on your favor against good defenses in the playoffs... Bucks played moreyball (a system that I think is flawed in the playoffs) and once Toronto adjusted their defense the Bucks didn't have the versatility to counter it offensively. I think being versatile on offense is important to keep the enemy defense honest, Bucks were like the third lowest on points scored from midrange last season... and despite all of this, the lack of experience, awful free throw shooting the series was to certain extent close when you consider the point differential. I had high hopes for this season since Budenholzer has been more flexible and is allowing the team to shoot more midranges, operate with post ups, Giannis improvement with shooting and passing during double teams...
@CGoon1993
@CGoon1993 4 года назад
Bud's offense is simple yet so lethal because nurse had to go full on desperation mode to stop it with zones and traps. If Bud changed his defense from the drop PNR coverage(that alllowed tons of kawhi midrangers) to switching the bucks would have easily won even if he kept his offense the same
