Complete restoration of a rare and very rusty lawn mower Can I rescue it to a perfect running condition? 1971 Rare Vintage Mower Restoration Thank you to my Patrons / daggerwin Music by Epidemic Sound
Wait....... You restored that mower like a musician making love their instrument while playing an opus they spent decades writing. AND now you're just mowing the lawn like it's any given Sunday morning!?!?! Bravo! Great video!
Thank you so much for this one. 58 or 60 years ago, I road my 2 wheel bike to my grandparents and cut the lawn with a push mower then a power push and one day they bought a SEARS like what you rebuilt. I JUST RELIVED that time of my life - a great time it was as I cut then backed it into the enormous shed he built for his stuff and I kept the tractor. Thanks for what YOU gave me BACK! Regards! Sonny (CT)
That's awesome and brings back so MANY memories. My father had an old riding mower that sat in the garage for years. When I was 12 (1975 ). I decided to discover how it worked and what was wrong with it. I completely disassembled it and because the original manual was still around, I was able to order the needed parts (clutch assy and bushings) even the foot pads and decals. I repainted It and returned It to like new condition. I believe it was a Huffy brand. It was also when I learned how to rebuild a 5 horse B/S engine and set me on journey to acquiring many Briggs and Stratton service tools. 130902 I remember was the model number for that same engine used on your rebuild. Thanks for your video . 😀👍👍
What is so astonishing about this is how something which should still look old-fashioned, even after restoration, turns out looking sort of strikingly modern. I'm impressed.
LOL!!! Disgusting is no doubt, right!! 😊 Even though, I've enjoyed repairing and restoring various Lawn & Garden equipment myself, over the years; I'm QUITE SURE I could've done WITHOUT, the stench from that "ages old" grease, which no doubt, wafted outta that tractor's deferential, when he cracked 'er open!! 😊
Im a man and I don't like doing this it's what I call a mechanic for cause im dumb and I freely admit it unlike the rest of the people in this comment section who would admit they were all geniuses except they have no idea how to fix something like an oven or a computer they are different yes but I don't how to fix them I call technician or my brother who knows these things. So yeah im dumb and freely admit to it but other people can't admit who they really are cause its too hard. In the great words of George Carlin *"BULLSHIT".*
이 맛진 영상을 보는 모든 분들이 존재하는 그 자체로 가치있고 충만하고 조화(造化/調和)로운 하루 되기 바랍니다. 정말 고맙습니다. 사랑합니다. I hope everyone who sees this awesome clip will have a valuable, full of happiness , and harmonious day in itself. Thank you very much. God bless you! I love you.
You did a fantastic job.👍 I tried to rebuild a mower once, quickly found out I did not have the required tools, knowledge or skills. It always helps to know what you are doing !!🥴🥴🥴🥴
I own a lawn and landscaping business and use preused equipment. I do my own fab work and maintenance to them and to see an old relic like that be restored back to life brings joy to my heart! Fantastic job man!
Nice weekend project. I'm always pleased when the sanitary gloves come off and I put skin directly on a project. It feels more personal with gloves off.
The hard part for me was watching the clean newly painted deck hit the grass for the first time! Great video, and great job on the restore. Subscribed.
Just think, that undersized underpowered mower was state of the art back in 1971. It's almost a shame to get it dirty after all that work restoring that treasure.
I have a Snapper w/ 5hp Briggs and 26 inch deck from 1976. It has plenty of power. I can agree with the "undersize" part of your comment, but not the underpowered part.
What a transformation, loved it! We had a similar riding mower by AMF that my dad purchased in 1972, I rebuilt the 5hp Briggs engine in the 80’s and he finally retired it 10 years later for a larger tractor.
I watch all your videos and find them very satisfying The way you bring back to service these old masterpieces and save them from Scrap heap, I applaud you every time, well done 👍👏💯
I initially thought he was spraying the wheel hubs with a paint can and empty paper towel tube. Turns out he wasn't but now I am curious to try holding an empty paper towel tube held in front of a spray can to close the spray pattern. I may have to experiment with length of the tube though to to less air pressure.
I agree. I watch a good number of old car restores and it's aggravating to see sloppy teardowns, parts go flying or are broken carelessly. In general, just manhandling an old piece of equipment that needs an experienced hand. This guy has it in spades! He takes pride in all aspects of of a teardown restoration, it's a high bar to work towards.
Just subbed, very nicely restored, this mower is a gem. I will tell you one thing you will never see, you will never see any mowers built today 75 years from now being restored like this, why, because everything that is made today is just junk. Look at how well built this mower is, the beefy ness of the material used, these things were made to last forever if properly taken care of. The junk that’s made today just makes me sick how we became a throwaway society. Guys like this that can fix things and make them work again are becoming very rare!
@@_-BK-_ I thought it was quite thorough. The only things I noticed was powder coating a few machined surfaces and not adding grease to the part with the 5 or 6 precision balls. I am hoping he just didn't film it when he did or something. And getting every dimple from rust and cast out would be nice but very time consuming. For a machine that will see heavy use and grass will probably sit on it often after a mow I do think the restore was appropriate. I am not sure if I will ever have the time to do anything close to this level unless it is a small project.
Watching videos like this remind me just how well things were made once upon a time. Sadly, I don't think it is a time we will ever see again. Excellent restoration!
Yeah, built to last. It took too long to build and materials would be too expensive now. Plus, if they break every 6 months they can sell you parts to fix it that will only last 3 months. It's an expensive bullshit cycle nowadays
@@Mjones8383 I have a 1961 jeep, and part of the original starter gave out last year. I replaced it, and the replacement part lasted about 6 months. Very unimpressive. Ended up finding a NOS part, should hold up better.
How many 1971 lawn mowers are still out there mowing lawns? I would think there'd be thousands of them if they were built to last. I think it has more to do with how they're cared for. I always winterize, clean and do basic maintenance on my mower every year.
@@microsoftexcel8327 He was a Gozillionaire, and an All-American, and a war hero. Peacefully mowing grass at the pace of life sounds like a nice change. Unless you feel like a run.
Wow, now that’s a right proper restoration. You don’t see that many full restore of lawn machines. See, it’s restores like this that makes me appreciate the way machines used to be built, built to last with just a little love. Awesome Job. I’m subscribing, you channel content is great.
Your content continues to improve and impress. Really well shot, good sound, great attention to detail. You make us feel like we could take on projects like this. Keep up the great work!
A real pleasure to have watched. I've see many "restoration" videos that were nowhere near a true restoration but this was. I know from experience the amount of time, money, and thought that goes into a project like this so my hats off to you for not only doing it but making such a great video aswell. No BS unnecessary music or talking just simple and to the point. Did give me a bit of anxiety though when the mower was cranked up and began mowing that damp grass hahaha
I can watch this guy doing this all day long and i will never get tired of it , impressive work , dedication and restoration to this old / new machine ... Well done sir 👌👌👌 i subscribed of course !! I couldn't not to do it ... Brilliant job 👌
I'm always amazed at how you can get these rusted relics back in operation again. Finding the gaskets and small parts must be a bit of a tricky situation, however.
Hi daggerwin ( machinery restorer ) i just wanted to say thanks for what you do for us ive learnt a lot of new things from you that i didnt know before. Keep up the good work Thank you❤️
Well done! Your video brought back memories of my high school shop class where I did something similar with an old ride-on mower I found in somebody's junk pile. It is such a joy to do things like this. Thanks for posting this!
Outstanding video! I'm not a mechanical type of guy, but I was interested and informed all the way from start to finish! Great job of identifying parts as you went along!!
I didnt expect you to mow grass with it. I figured at most you would run it around dry pavement and keep it pristine... and a trailer queen. Great project to watch... learned a bit too. New subscriber here. Thanks.
Absolutely enjoy your videos. Makes for an entertaining way to start my day rebuilding something. Thank you for sharing your time and work it takes to record these for us.
Awesome restoration job. A very thorough restoration at that. nothing left untouched. Hope you have a Blessed One Sir. Greetings from Silverstreet South Carolina USA 🇺🇸
I'm so amazed that something old can look so good now I think it was an awesome job that you did thank you I would love to see more of these in the future
Another great restoration! I appreciate how you record all your projects, with their various frustrations. I’m sure it can be hard to do. I do restorations like these and it would be really hard for me to do that. Also nice hearing the birds.
Ever since YT recommended this channel [yesterday], I've watched 3 videos and am now subscribing. No music, cussing, rambling on/on etc; just good content with great results at the end. *Well done/God bless.*
Really well done! Awesome to watch something being given a new life. Been catching up on the Daggerwin vids as well lately as I got a bit behind. Loving them as well. Keep up the good work buddy! 😁👍
That mower was the pride of the neighborhood when the fellow purchased it. He probably also bought a Parker Pull Behind Sweeper to complete the the ultimate in urban lawn care
I just bought a brand new John Deere x570 and it’s night and day how far riding mowers have come. I realize this is a compact made to fit through a fenced in yard gate but still. Great job restoring and loved how you used it in the end.
