So in case your wondering, the "balls" as the bottle caps of Rare Beauty products are suppose to help people with Arthritis, like what Selena's condition is along with Lupus. So if ever they wont struggle to open the products cause of their weak hands. So well-thought!! And love the packaging it looks simple, sleek and beautiful❤️

As a young person with Rheumatoid Arthritis, the fact she did this makes me want to cry about feeling seen and the inclusivity. On the bad days its hard to open things, or hold things or style your hair. Makeup, and beauty is a way in which people should be able to empower themselves. Makeup has the ability to empower people in a really rare way- but when you're using something and can't open it, or it feels uncomfortable to hold, it can feel like one more barrier that you have to break through. Well done Selena, for being so inclusive, and changing the game in the beauty industry.

You and Mariah Leonard were really the only people who’s reviews on this I was going to care about because you both just *get* this type of aesthetic. This brand reminds me of a mix of Glossier and Fenty. Natural, glowy, and clean, but still glamorous and luxe, and inclusive.

not every concealer comes with a doe foot applicator. pots, pans, pumps. and if its a stick or a crayon, i'd still suggest putting in on the back of a clean hand or on a palette

Totally. I support her having a preference, but it looked fantastic on her. And white, gold, pink and rose gold aren't trendy, they're staples. Pretty much every highlight line has those colors. The other 4 she didn't get may be the "unique" color she's craving.

Idk why it looks so dry and breaks/cracks on my skin even when I moisturize and use a hydrating primer. Breaks my heart 🥺 maybe I have to try even more hydrating stuff but my skin doesn’t feel or look dry until I apply foundation!

People don’t want want foundations with doe foot (don’t know if that’s spelled right) applicators but almost *ALL* concealers come with doe foot applicators and no one says anything 😑 and yeah you could say that it’s okay for concealers to have those kind of applicators bc they’re mostly used under the eye but a lot of people use them everywhere 🙄🤷🏽‍♀️

For me it just doesn't make sense, they are the same thing. If it's bad to use foundation with doe foot then it's bad to use concealer with doe foot. You have just as much bacteria under your eyes, nose, chin and forehead( where people often use the doe foot) as in your cheeks. And if we are sensitive

For me, it’s mostly about acne. I’m more careful about sanitation for products put all over my face vs under eye area bc I’m very acne prone. I also use a separate concealer for acne spots vs under eye and don’t use a doe foot for that.

At first I was struck by the 1% being more of a marketing tactic than actual useful charity... And while I still believe that number could definitely be increased, after doing a few quick google searches and seeing that 1% of ABH’s estimated annual profit is still tens of MILLIONS of dollars, I can see for a starter brand why this works and I am satisfied with the idea.

True! But then imagine how much money they make and have 😄 1% is useful, but very little compared to what companies and CEOs make. The difference is that ABH doesn’t make it their “mission” to my knowledge, they don’t really talk about it. At least I never heard about them systematically donating to charity. Rare beauty makes it their mission. So to me it’s kinda fishy that they would only use 1% of profit and from my understanding it’s not even donations, it’s their own fund. It looks like they want to mention it to make more sells. Ofc it’s better than nothing, but it doesn’t come off as a genuine thing to me. Keeping in mind it’s not just an indie company, Selena has money to keep it going. If it was a smaller company that have to use most of profit to create new things, I would totally agree with you.

Hello Stranger - I 100% agree with everything you’ve said. And being that it is a celebrity brand, I would be very happy to see a higher donation rate. But I am not a business owner nor do I know how much it costs to start an entire brand so I don’t feel I have the knowledge basis to argue that point. Gotta love capitalism, amirite? Lol

Danielle Well, I’m pretty sure they calculate the percentage off of profit, so not taking in consideration all the expenses that company has. Maybe I’m wrong, possible that each company has their own system, so it’s hard to assume and speculate. I would love to at least see some transparency in the future! It usually says a lot about company.. if they’re proud of work they’ve done or if there’s nothing to be proud about! 1% is money as well in the end of the day, very curious to see how they gonna utilize it with their fund.

Edit: I also forgot to mention that with Rare all the products are below $30, and the profit margin on each product would be lower. Along with paying her employees and everything I think 1% is totally reasonable too and a lot more than other brands who usually just do % of sales on ONE product or launch. Yeah plus their goal of donating $100 million is over a 10 year period so I feel like that’s totally doable with the 1%, hopefully the brand grows to ABH level in a couple years!

Regarding the changing trend toward more sheer stuff.. I’m curious how people would feel if brands like Huda came out with products to fit the trend, because it could be “off-brand” for them, but it also helps them stay hip when the brand is so geared toward one type of makeup. I don’t really shop huda beauty face products but at the end of the day makeup brands are supposed to make products that consumers will buy so shouldn’t they change the type of makeup they create to suit that?? Hmmm but definitely would be off brand for them so that’s an interesting thought

I think makeup brands establish an identity before they are created. Most of them don’t change their identity in order to suit a trend that might not be popular next year. It just happens that right now, more natural makeup is in (thanks to brands like glossier) I think we will see more heavy and colorful makeup looks again in a couple years since trends tend to recycle just like fashion

Taylor Easterling I guess it depends on how the brand does it or how heavily they lean on their ‘identity’. I mean Estée Lauder has been known for their double wear foundation for years which is super full coverage and matte (which is a go-to for me in the summer or for events) but then they came out with the water blend version (which I also love) and I don’t remember hearing any consumers complaining that they went ‘off-brand’. Maybe it partially depends on how diverse the line is to begin with.

From another first impressions review comment, I’ve just found out that the bottles have the balls on top because Selena Gomez has lupus and arthritis. That’s the really impressive part as well as the mental health charity, that she’s made products that people with grip issues can open more easily. I’m hopeful that when she expands globally, we get a micro point eye brow product and some eye brushes that are more grip friendly for those with arthritis. Love what she’s trying to do, things can only improve I think.

I love the price range too. Most of the products are cheaper than the other products in their categories. In America, the foundation is 29 and its usually 40 or more for a high end foundation. I love the fact that she didn’t use the mission statement as an excuse to overprice everything because they would donate from it and kept it affordable.

For me, if you have acne, you have a higher chance of transferring bacteria... I've never had acne in my undereye/concealer area so it's not an issue like foundation can be.

I’d give half of my current makeup stash to make this available in Europe. The brow gel is giving me Glossier vibes, I love the staying power and the colour but i always have to scrape the brush to remove access otherwise it’s too wet and gets everywhere

Your criticism is not hate, it's helpful. Hopefully these brands can hear people out more and fix these particular "issues" with products. I also hate the dual brow gel and pencil. Makes no sense. Lol i always run out of the gel first. Wtf is the point man.. ☺ I'm excited for the brand. Especially after hearing their mission statement. (Coming from someone whose life has been affected by mental health issues and who lacks resources) Thanks for that sam, I had no clue!!

I was kind of annoyed when I heard she was launching a makeup line because (aside from met gala looks) she only really has 3 makeup looks she ever wears. Celebrities like Rhianna and Lady Gaga coming out with lines made sense to me, but Selena is more of a no-makeup makeup kind of girl. It felt like a cash grab more than a passion. But these products ARE for those "you but better" looks so it actually makes sense for her. I'm glad I got to see yours and Chloe Morello's reviews because I wouldn't have given it a chance otherwise. I actually might want to try the foundation, especially since she intends to donate to mental health services.

That so interesting that it felt like a cash grab to you. I’m hearing this so much from many different people. I personally didn’t feel the same but I grew up watching wizards of waverly place and was a fan of hers from before. I feel like sometimes celebrities don’t always get to be as transparent with their interests and passions. 🤷🏽‍♀️ so when they show more of themselves to the public they’re shocked because they don’t see that side of the celebrity. Idk 😐 Im happy her line is receiving positive feedback for the most part 🤗❤️

Can you review the new Lauren Conrad line? I’m sooooo curious about it! The eyeliner looks incredible, the lip products look super pretty (both the glosses and the lipsticks look sooooo pretty omg), the liquid highlight looks lovely, the cream blush too... Urgh. In regards to the packaging the clear is a standard in industry and is one of the most basic packages. The ball on the top of the foundation is actually meant to help people with arthritis (which Selena struggles with herself ) to apply the product im confused in the issue?

The whole collection was made with people with arthritis in mind. The sponge is so soft because it is easier to wring out than a super dense one when your hands are really in pain and sensitive. (Just fyi because i think a lot of people dont realize that :)))

The brow product is so creamy for the same reason. You don’t have to apply to much pressure to use it. The caps of the lipsticks are also loose and easy to open. So everything is catered for people with shaky and weak hands

I think the applicator is like that because it's better for those with disabilities that might not be able to push a pump down. She mentioned that she has arthritis so maybe the doefoot is made with that in mind.

Selena’s always wanted to do makeup. She had a line with morphe in 2013 but got dropped because she went to rehab and “no longer fit their image”, that’s why rare beauty is focusing so much on mental health. I'm gonna support rare beauty and you should too!

Yay, I’m excited to see a full review, I’m glad that you received the products so early! From what I see, their shades are marked W for Warm, N for Neutral, and C for Cool and they only sent you the warm ones for some reason (the darkest shade was Neutral but did still look a bit yellow) so hopefully the cool ones are more true to be cool-toned. I’m mostly tempted by the blush and lip creams!

it's a packaging issue. a company probably isn't going to put a little tiny baby pump on packaging that slender and if you try to shake it out, it'll be a god damned mess. also, with daily use (at least for me), i run through doefoot applicator-type concealers way faster than a foundation, which means less time for the concealer to get dank. also, like sam said, most people don't have compromised skin under the eyes.

The foundation started super yellow and then blended and BECAME your skin! You could actually see where the beauty blender was buffing it into your skin. It looks like SKIN. I’m sold. Thanks Sam for the awesome review!
