With great delight I finally got the Air Creebec hawker!
The Hawker Siddley HS-748 is a turbo-prop aircraft built between 1960 and 1988. A total of 380 were built by the british manufacture; Hawker Siddley. There have been several Canadian operators of the aircraft throughout the years who have used the aircraft mainly for cargo operations.
However as of 2022, only 7 are left on the Transport Canada registry but even less are still flying.
Wasaya Airlines has 5 on the registry (however only 3 of the fly). They operate them out of Pickle Lake (YPL) and Red Lake (YRL).
Air Creebec is a regional airline based in Montreal (YUL), Val-d'Or (YVO) and Timmins (YTS). They operate a fleet of 14 Dash 8-100's, 2 Dash 8-300's and most interestingly 2 (+1 inactive) HS-748 for their cargo operations. Their HS-748 operates cargo flights from Timmins to Moosonee (YMO), Fort. Albany (YFA) and Attawapiskat (YAT) mainly.
With a total of only 5 active (3 Wasaya and 2 Air Creebec) HS-748 left in Canada, and this will only decrease as the aircraft ages and parts become harder to find; I knew I had to catch these classic birds in action... So here it is! Both Air Creebec Cargo HS-748 in action in Timmins, Ontario (YTS).
Back in 2016, Air Inuit use to operate the HS-748 on cargo runs in the Nunavik region of Quebec.
They would only fly to Montreal on rare occasions for maintenance. Its last visit was in 2016 with C-FDOX (it was also the last time I have seen an HS-748) before it was sold to Air Creebec who now uses it for
parts to keep their current 2 Hawkers active.
Borth of Air Creebec's HS-748's transport essential cargo to remote communities in Northern Ontario. These aircraft serve as a life line for these communities, who rely on these cargo flights.

Very nice. These aircraft remind me of the Convair 580. Good to see the old turbos still working.

I still think of them as Avro 748's. Thanks for posting this, after all this time I no longer hate the whine of Darts because it's such a rare sound now it's actually good to hear it.

we used to complain miserably about the airco system back in the day. Bahamasair days. we operated many very short flights. often the cabin temperatures exceeded ambient with 48paxs. now id do anything to do it again!

Very nice coverage Mark, these old planes are real workhorses. I remember flying on one in 1975 when it was pretty new from Barbados to St.Lucia on LIAT. It was memorable because the HS-748 is not a STOL aircraft and every takeoff from St,Lucia prompted the fire dept. to run their trucks to the end of the runway and wait until we left (or didn't I guess) Thanks for sharing , brings back memories.

That ‘idle’ sound takes me back to when I was a kid in the Virgin Islands and LIAT would bring them into St. Thomas.

Back the early 80s, 1983 to be exact, Austin Airways flew the HS thru Northern New Brunswick to Montreal, I was headed to CFB Bagotville for my J-57 engine course for the CF-101 Voodoo from CFB Chatham, we flew from the civilian terminal in Chatham to Montreal, the switched to an Air Quebec 737 and flew up to the civilian terminal at CFB Bagotville. A noisy but fun flight. According to Air Creebec Wilipedia article, in 1988 Air Creecec bought out Austin Airways that flew out of Timmins, these HS are probably originally Austin Airways aircraft.

My first ride was in a HS-748 LAV (Linea Aeropostal Venezolana) in 1977 between Margarita island and Cumana city. YV-07C and the last registration was in canada as C-GDUN with First Air.

@@Grosse_Douceur I totally agree, while I never was involved in HS748 operations, Im swede and have so many memories of hearing them climb/cruise in the nights when they belonged to West Air Sweden. These 2 last active last tails have history in West Air Sweden.
