On October 10th, 2022, I swung by the Maryland Pig Iron facility along 130th Street in Hegewisch and was surprised to see their Conrail SW8 delivering cars to the South Shore interchange. This is the first time I had ever seen the locomotive move. It was originally built in 1951 for the Lehigh Valley, before eventually becoming Conrail #8687. Its Lehigh Valley heritage can be seen through the blue paint, in the form of stripes and some lettering. Seeing this old switcher operating in 2022 is quite the sight!
